Originally posted by AYOUB_SHEIKH: Yasmine, Rahima, Ameenah and the rest, What do you think of the Mbagathi constitution which is reported to include a clause which says 12% of the parliamentary seats have been allocated specifically to women . Is that a good idea or just not enough? Is it a bit tasteless for Asha Ahmed Abdalla to sign documents/letters as Woman Politician ? I think it's a good idea, because as I see it; Somali politicians are defined by that doqon phrase. I don't know the exact wording, but you know the one about placing the stick beside her and if she doesn't get it, hitting her with it. - Come think of it, why are all the doqon phrases about women? But anyways... Basically, I doubt that our men will allow many women in their midst if they can help it - so in that regard I welcome any measures that will enable the ladies to part-take in ploitics. Afterall, as Sangub illustrated in qabyo, Somalidu only take orders from ragii 'gaaloda' ahee wax yaqanka ah, ee Somali isagii ba meel la' cidna ma dhageeysanayso - and when that Somali is a woman, you might as well give up whilst your ahead. As for Asha Abdulleh, calling herself a Woman Politician- I think it's pretty cool. She is a woman afterall. Laakin, as Yasmin hinted - I think there are more pressing issues that the constitution needs to review...

Oh' Damn I didn't know that! Hey, do you guys remember the joke Aplus played on ya'll last year? Told the Nomads how me and MMA got married and they fell for it...THAT was funny!

Somealien, I think, congrarts is an order - the hijab phase seems to be the hardest to break for many sister- certainly was for me. I hope that Allah makes it easy for you. I would just repeat Opininonated's advice in seeking knowledge from books, and learned Muslims. Once you've established the reasons and wisdom behind the rules - you'd naturally want to apply them. And remember that Allah will always make it easier for you to practice the religion if you make intentions sincere and ask for Allah's help. p.s If it's any consolidation, I have the 'gay' colleague dilemma also. I was cool with him before but I just keep it on a professional level. Best wishes - sister. QAC QAc and GARAB? I see ya'll are working overtime to turn the sisters into Araweelos. Please stop with the personal attacks and hijacking people’s topics. Damn, koone kasta inan baad la murmaysaan. Hadii, ay buuq iyo qayladu daacad idinka tahay - then I suggest inaad dadka si sharafleh ula hadshaan. No one is going to listen to you if you insist on beating them down with the religion qac qaac.. isn't it in the Quraan to tell people the religion in a way that is better?

I've noticed that too Yas. BUT it's the ‘geeljire’ way. I'm not bothered by the comments as I know it to be far from the truth and accept the fact that some men just can't help being tactless Anyone who looks at the situation in any region of Somalia, you’d find while the majority of ‘leading’ men cause havoc. It is the women who pick up the pieces. With that said, I'd advice the brothers who use this little tactic. Those, brothers who allow themselves to be overcome by the urge to insult / belittle women for the purpose of winning an argument - to re-assess. I personally, would question, the validity of that argument or that of any person who resorts to side-line insults at others. Why? Because, any contention that is worth expressing deserves an explanation – isn’t that the first rule of debating? By shaking off the opposing view with an insult – is an indication that you are stuck for words? So, do these apparently educated men lack the vocabulary to articulate their responses without involving an innocent third party? Another, interesting observation - notice how the majority of the men in this forum get all heated up over their politics - and the few women (with the exception of 1/2) are almost always trying to calm the situation. I guess, we’ll have to wait and see. In the mean time, this Araweelo will continuo to amuse herself by the irony of Somali politics (both gender and governances).

Why is it that people in this forum always have a problems with other people's heros? If they favour some1, it really shouldn't bother you their reasons. Just state your hero and get on with the topic.. Honestly  My greatest Somali politician... Is none other than; Lady Adna Ismail Aden. She is the only politician that spends on her people, the only politician true to developing her country, the only politician that isn't considered a war lord and the type of politican who would speak to the youth, enourage them to go to school and gain the education that they require - so that they become equiped to develop their country. The only politican that hasn't outgrown her noble profession. She may not be diplomatic at times but this lady is worth a million Somali men.

Winger, Walaalo, Samir iyo Iman to you and the family. May Allah shower her with mercy and grant her jannah.

Salaams, Well, sitting here and looking at it from my comfortable life in London; I would naturally echo Qac Qaac's 'wax bana'. However, logic dictates that we look beyond our subjective views of the situation. For sometime, I've been following the activities of our sisters in Somalia and it's apparent that they have been making full use of the support that is made available to them by international aid organisation who spearhead the International Women's Day 'celebrations' SOMALIA: Campaign against FGM launched on Women's Day NAIROBI, 8 Mar 2004 (IRIN) - On the occasion of International Women's Day, a campaign against Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) has been launched throughout Somalia, where an estimated 98 percent of all women have undergone the ritual. The campaign is being led by four networks of Somali women’s organisations, namely the Coalition of Grassroots Women's Organization (COGWO), IIDA Women's Development Organization (IIDA means celebrate in Somali), We Are Women Activists (WAWA) and NAGAAD (roughly translated in Somali as 'Stay Rooted'). The networks represent nearly 90 grass-roots women's groups, Maryan Abdulle Qawane of COGWO told IRIN. The campaign was launched simultaneously on Monday in Hargeysa, the capital of the self-declared republic of Somaliland, Bosaso, the commercial capital of the self-styled autonomous region of Puntland, and in the Somali capital, Mogadishu, as well as in other towns. Check the following link 4 more information... SOMALIA: Campaign against FGM launched on Women's Day And... SOMALILAND 'Peace Building, Women's Participation In Decision-Making In The Country' was the theme of International Women's Day in Somaliland. UNIFEM participated in the official opening of the "Multi Purpose Empowerment Centre" in Arabsiyo, with local authorities, farmers, the Nordic Press Team visiting Somaliland and UNDP. A basketball tournament with women from the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps was also held to celebrate the occasion. UNIFEM Currents - International Women's Day Special Issue

Originally posted by disillusioned-N-despondent: Socrates , C'mon, I'm sure ur a lot smarter than that. Why in the world would a girl get in a car with two male strangers alone? The fact that they are Somali is irrelevant. I dont know why ur pissed coz I'm sure you'ld have advised ur own sisters to do the same thing that girl did. As for your deleted post...I kno nothing of it. looooooooooooooool! In case your looking at me now. I didn't do it neither. so the sister Mods. are in the clear Laakin, don't you think that your taking it a tad bit too seriously. I am always getting bullyed by faaraxs but that doesn't make me get annoyed with all my brothers. Like this morning, I was reading my copy of Al-Jumuah as I was waiting for my train. This brother comes along and starts chatting nasty about me to his friend...my man decided he wanted to chat my figure and how I think am sexy, that am wasting my time by going on a on a diet, that my perception of beauty was totaly ignorant and that i'll never be able to find a man... I gave him a really mean look and continued to read my mag... My mate reckons he was doing it so that I chat to him, but is such crassness necessary? All, he had to do was say ' haye walaashiis, see tahay... but nooooo, he just had to go and assume and diss the sister. And then, there was this other brother on another day, this time I was on my way from work....oh' never mind  sorry - I just needed to get that off me chest, afterall this is the vent off zone right?

^^^lol! Most islaamo chew as a result of jealousy. My mates mum used to chew, waxay isla dhici jireen boodhar iyo lipstick as they chewed qaad and discussed the eveil ways of oadyashooda.... lol I think an all purpose beauty salon should do the trick. One with all the salon facilities and an in house counsellor. *waves @ gediid* Salaams walaalo - xageed ku dhummatey baryahan? We missed, ya dee Anyways... I personally doubt that the British government would do enough to ban qat. The authorities get too much out of this trade in terms of taxes. And there isn't much lobbying from the Somali community. Even if it was banned, it would still be available via the black market and it would cost more. I'm tired of seeing messed up brothers as a result of qaad. Even school kids skip school to go to marfeshs. I think they should apply an age limit at least - where those who sell to young people under a certain age face hefty fines.

^^lol Sis. I just don't understand waxaynu dadka kale ra'yigooda isugu wareerin... Somali waa Somali - some have arabic origines - some have always been Somali - end of the day isku meel uunbey the Human race ka wada yimaadeen... Whats the big deal? I dhoon anderstaan.

Pearl, Hunnie, alxamdulilah that it worked out well. Thank you for sharing the story with us and warning us. It is true, you never suspect such behaviour of some1 that you know. I know some1 who experienced a similare thing with her Somali relative. You also, need to be careful with delivery guys , mechanics - I'd advice ya'll to be a easy with the Arab bashing. A man is a man, is a man. - am not saying all men are rapists or perverts - but you'll never know who is and who isn't - so sisters if he ain't your dad / brother assume that they are

^^lol. The male nomads of this forum call this section the 'Arraweelo' corner. I guess now you know why lol -
A Muslim is what I call myself. However, I subscribe to the Ahlu Sunnah wel Jamaa'ah school of thought = people of the Sunnah and consensus ... madhab of the Prophet (saw) as understood by the companions and the 1st three generations. I guess that makes me a Maliki, Shafici, Hanafi and Hanbali, Salafi, Kalafi, Umari (if such thing exists) all at once lol - In other words I don't discriminate between the Scholars but judge their rulings in accordance to the evidence (from the Quraan and Sunnah) that they provide. In instances where there is a difference in opinion - I'd go for the majority opinion or the one that appeals to me the most

I mind map by drawing pics - pie charts word-graphs. I just can't remember whole paragrapgh of something but pictures always stay on my mind. Pray - cos duca does work and make sure you chillout a bit - stress can actually make you forget things. ANd don't study with friends - thats the ultimate time waster. Once ya'll decided on what you need to know and how to go about - go your separate ways or you'll end up studying the cute guy in the next desk or what was on friends last night. You can still check up on each other.. -

You want me to tell you what characteristics a Somali queen should have? Easy. Well, I am the living heiress to throne at the Land of Arraweelos - so a Somali Queen should have my characteristics. Amongst many, i have the impecable ability to put faarax's in their rightfull place on the real - any girl that wants to be called a Somali Queen should be down with Islam and Somalinimo - I thinks, but differences of opinions do exist.
