I've actually given up on Somali politics, but this is an interesting development...we'll see how it goes. Anyway, following on from your 4.5 explanation, how do they pupose putting it into practice at grassroots level, for example, if the people of 1 of the clan’s aren’t in agreement with their selected leaders – how will the government establish its rule over them? Originally posted by Jumatatu: Yep sxb that is a good idea, lets start by suggesting Ngonge as a prime-minister. In that way we will be sure Bari-Nomad and Bashi will be excluded from the cabinet and our dear OG-girl will be given a Minister without a protofolio. While the likes of Raula, Ameenah, Northern will be given high portoflios...... Under the the rule of the Qurbaawi kids, Somalia would be in very good hands. Clever, choice Mr Monday

^^^ Thanks! I never thought of googeling for a book. Neat

Assalamu Alaikum Nomads... I have half a sheeko and question for ya'll. As a child I’ve heard many amazing tales of Somalis of the past. The most intriguing of these were those describing strange encounters with the animal kingdom. My memory fails me but one such tale still captivates me. It’s the tale of the Lion Teaser or Libaax Sanka Taabte in Somali. I don't remember if this was the name given to the storey but it's as I remeber it. The tale was based on a nomad who got lost in the desert or perhaps the woods. Somehow he managed to be cornered by a Lion and after much sweating and contemplation he managed to befriend the lion. This was done am told through the patting of the lions nose – think crocodile Dundee, but with a lion. The lion then became the friend and protector of this man. He carried him on his back, guarded him at night. Until he returned to his village safely. I’m no veteran of animal psychology so I don’t question the validly of this phenomena. Actually I don’t think it deserves much contemplation. It's just a sweet tale, no need to spoilt it maaha? What I want to know is if anyone else has heard of the storey. Do you recall the tale in full? If so, can you post it? What do you think about this matter of befriending lions? Now for the Libaax Sanka Taabte of SOL Errrm, your so vain…dadadadda…you thought this topic is about you, don’t you . Joke cousin, joke. On the real now, tell me, what is the origin of your name and do you have a 'Libaax Dundee’ in your family? I've been meaning to ask this for the longest of time.

Look at it this way, bundling Somalia and America together gives the reader the wrong impression, wouldn’t you agree. One is a world wide ‘super power’ that was running around imposing its self righteous values on the world. The other is one of the poorest, most dysfunctional and misgoverned countries on earth, which was also in the middle of a civil war at the time. Do you honestly think that Siad had the time or care to look into some xaquuq ciyaal document in the Somalia of1989? Anyway, it’s not that am defending the Somali government. Personally, I doubt that any Somali government; past or present will have the insight to carry such a policy through, it requires too much work and spending for our breed of politicians…… Where will they get qaad money, if they made sure that every Somali child had shelter, food, access to education and have these rights provided for and protected by national law? How will they get the time for their precious qaad sessions?

^^ Bal, kaalay. Maad akhriday jawaabtaan kuu soo qorey, mise xagxagasho ayaad u dhimaneysay? Yaa yidhi that this topic was only about you and your mates? I was talking about the forum in general, magaratay? Waxaan ku idhi hadalkayga dib ugu noqo, wax kasta oon topican ku qoreyna akhriso oo faham.. Then hit me with your sarcasm, okay? p.s I thought that Musa and Cisa (calayhum assalaam)followed the same religion? Tuujiye, Thats a very good question walaal, we can surely discuss that .. but wakhtigaa igu yar. Waan kuu soo noqon. Laakin, maad qol kale inoo furtid? Ithink this topic deserves it's own space, wouldn't you agree?

In 1989 Somalia was up in flames, am surprised the Metro doesn't know that much, lazy journalism, eh? It was around that time that Somalis started migrating to the UK in large numbers. But America... now that is interesting

Assalamu Alaikum, No more 'salaams' for me then. Jizak Allah, oneof those thingsyou never give asecond thought to,but now that I read the fatwa it makes perfect sense to write it fully, Insha Allah. I suppose it's a no more I'A for me too

^^ No need to get high and mighty about it brother. If the poster and other 'simpletons' don't have the correct information would you be so kind as to share it with us. Many African’s and people in the west like t view this as an Arab –v-African debate. This notion is a actually pushed by people who want to attack Islam - as the Arabs are seen to be the main adherents of Islam. It's away of splitting up and causing enmity between Muslims. Anyway, it isn’t just an issue of Arab –v- African or rather one Sudani tribe against another. The most sickening aspect of this war is that it involves Muslims who are committing the most inhumane and barbaric atrocities against their fellow countrymen and other Muslims. The poster is right it is ugly, very.

^^Agreed! Lets get posting. Great suggestions from those who've bothered to contribute. God Hasna, are you in youth work? I do love your list. It's all so relevant - I can't choose. And, Thank you all Simply the Best and Co, It's a matter of making the most of this site and restoring it to its former glory. SOL was a place for proper exchange - now it's dead. People are constantly complaining at the state of this section – so why not do something about it? Now, I don't oppose light hearted topics as I've already said. WE can even have a chit-chat thread -it's up to you. It's the hijacking of and trivializing of people's insightful threads that needs to be dealt with.

Allah within 5 mins, 4 people have selected Beloved by Toni. Very odd, I hope your not getting paid for this...!! She is a beautiful writer. But shall we give nomads till Friday to register their votes. ***Whoever is online should just take over and announce the winning book. till then...Salaams

I've a feeling choosing / agreeing on a book will turn into a task. To counter this, I'll be sweet and start a poll based on Classiques selection. It will be on a different thread so watch out....!! The poll thread is called 'Choose a Book' and is in the womens section. In case it goes over your head.
-
Salaams ya'll. Here it is, just register your vote here - so we can be on our merry way The book with most votes shall be our first read, insha Allah. In case you're at the choice of books - I just lifted them from Classiques list as it was agreed that she would have the first choice of book. It might be helpful to look at some of the reviews / descriptions nomads already provided of some of these books in the Hey Geek Squad Listen to Shehrazade thread! Once book is selected, we can go away, read it and return with our reviews and thoughts in about a month.

It takes a great fool to write such words! Bilaa dhiig, bilaa dhadhan as my baby brother would say.

^^True! There is a subtle war on Muslims in West. In the UK, where Bluncket took the Liberty of creating laws espcially directed at Muslims. Perscution against Muslims is an all time high. We're constatly made to validate our deen - our very existance. Then there is the situation in Holland and France. The future looks very bleak for us, I hope you have your exit plans. I do understand the position of OG-Girl but that does have conditions - not many Muslims live Islam in the west which is an indirect contribution to the alienation of Muslims. I feel themajority of us in the west aren't upto par for the job. We can certainly do with a survival kit. Furthermore, one might want to look at the reasons behind Muslim migration to the west. You'd find that it's mainly due to political and economic corruption in our own lands. This only indicates a significant level of moral decay and lack of adherance to Islam. How then, can we go to the west and question their systems? When it clearly works better for us then our distorted version of Islam? Is it not better to get our house in order? To call Muslims back to their deen, to establish Islam in our lands?

I don't know if I want this section to be as active as other sections. Don't get me wrong, it would be great if more people posted and shared their knowledge and thoughts on Islam more often but if you look at other sections of this forum people mainly tend to chit-chat about nothing. I notice that this section is used differently by nomads. People, post relevant information - ask questions, discuss issues - and move on without diluting it with unnecessary chit-chat. It shows respect for the deen. The majority of SOL’s silent readers are regulars of the Islam forum. It is I agree, quieter than usual. Maybe the regulars are busy.

Appalling. The section on none-cambatants is very troublesome. One of the killed hostages was a woman who was married to an Iraqi. She was practicaly an Iraqibut they killed her still. Nothing justifies that.

^^excellent analyses. The proverb 'give a mna a fish and feed for a day .... ' rings true in the Somali context. I agree with Orgilaqe, development is very much dependent on the contribution of the educated youth abroad. My parents have always told us that we should learn to benefit our people. It’s always stayed with me. We have to realise that our younger walaalo / cousins are the ones suffering the most in Somalia. It doesn’t have to be about politics but genuine good will for our people. Consider the reawrds you'd get for it. What I love about my father’s generation is that great many of them went abroad to study and returned home to contribute to society –no matter how comfortable qurbo life was for them. This isn’t to say that the people back home are useless, in fact I think they are far more insightful, in tune and concerned with the future of the homeland. Some of them are also as educated (and the number is increasing) than those abroad. What they lack is resources and funding, which we can easily access. Lets not make the mistake of thinking that any government in Horn is capable or interested in changing the quality of life for the masses. Their concern starts and ends with political rule and manipulation (it’s evident from the content of this forum that they are succeeding – even across boarders). I know a few people who went back and set-up businesses providing jobs for the locals. Similarly, it's very easy to set up charities working to build and develop the basic amenities back home. For example; If every working Somali contributed say $10 every month, that could raise the necessary funds to build schools, hospitals, orphanages or pay for the equipment used at these places. This doesn’t have to be a nationwide or regional venture – but can be set up for different cities and villages (the villages are often ignored). As for me, I’ve always wanted to get involved in the development of the education system. My Abtiyo who works in the field has advised me to get as much training and experience in the field before embarking on any projects. He’s the expert – so am working on it. Insha Allah. There is so much scope walahi, there are a few organizations already working in this field. I’m looking into a charity that sends books to schools back home. Even if I don’t go back home to, I can always be involved from the distance, that’s the beauty of the global village. All in all, I think everyone and anyone can do something – if they put their heart and mind to it. Again, Orgi I agree, as eedo Nakrumah say’s ‘riyadu wey fdiicantahay, nimcoy sadaalisaa’. Apology, for taking up all this space...

^^^^It's government 'owned' dee. I wonder how many know of the plight of his (Morgan's) neighbours. He used to send his guards next door to steal their fruit, bully their watchman and teen boys and put them on house arrest .... amongst many other petty, vile antics. Maybe he should also be entered into the race along with Riyaale....

Very cute. I love the baranbaro clip.

lols. Ameenah iska dheh, it's Ameenah spelt backwards Laakiin xagee laga bilaabaa hee. It's upto you brother. Adigu maxaa ka dhiman forumkan aad is leedahay? Maxaadse ka qaban kartaa?

^^^Hear, Hear! Bottom line people, no one can misguide those whome Allah guides, and those whome Allah allows to go astray none can guide. Hadith of the Prophet (saw). So, Warsame doesn't worry me. If someone falls for his calls, there Iman in Islam must have been shakey to begin with. Besides, being Somali doesn't guarantee you faith. Lets get over ourselves, eh?

^^^ Come on sister. Be fair, this Forum of ours is based on quality. Our brothers do have a right to take part. They’re input can be valuable also. No, this isn't a typo. I think it's healthy to discuss issues relating gender wars / dynamics - whatever you want to call it. We just need to start addressing these issues in a different way. Brothers be concise and respectful in your analyses of females. Sisters give them constructive feedback. All in all, lets stop getting defensive and stubborn about these topics - it just people playing with words and views. Anyway Nafta I like your list. Got any more? We’re also short on topics about gender issues at work. Light hearted fun and games threads will be a nice feature also. In fact lets stop listing them, if you've got a good topic, bring it on. Post away, nomads. So in no time, we’ll have a half decent discussion board. Insha Allah (am very optimistic) Garab Tuujiye, Action Jackson and Dark Angel Do you actually have anything to add to this topic? If so, please share it with us.

Salaams Hibo, Sounds like youre having an adventure lol. Walaal, am sorry to hear reer Pakistan have forgotten their edaab, but what can you do. Human nature gets the best of those who don't fear Allah. Whatever you do, don't let this cloud your reasons for being Pakistan. If anything you've learnt some ugly truths about people, this will only make you wiser from the experience. Anyway, gabar... ka soco, all the best and have fun p.s Send me some of those fine silk shawls dee, Pakistan has the best, or so I hear

Thanks for starting this topic FF, its way overdue. This section is by far the most misused on these boards. A part from a few good topics it generally lack insight. What’s the point of having discussions if your not going to achive anything by means of perspective and knowledge. Why do we trivialize womanhood? Why is it that brothers use this thread either to insult females or to chat them up. Likewise the sisters, does the Somali woman not have concerns deeper then bashing on men, what turns you on and what chat up lines work best on you? I’m not saying that these have no place in this board but question the need to only focus on them? The feminist, shukaansi, gender bashing theme that is common in this forum is getting tired and boring. I purpose, that we have series discussion. They can be about relationships, work, gender issues, Islam, current events and news, stories...anything as long as it has quality and promotes real time debates. If you have nothing to add to a topic, spare us your sarcastic unhelpful remarks. Even if nomads insist on discussing topics related to shukaansi, feminism and gender dynamics- at least make it good. And last but not least. Stick to the topic and don’t start abusing and analyzing other nomads. So ladies and gents of SOL…. What is it going to be? Do we want to get the most out of this section or continue sending it down the gutter? Speak now, or forever hold your peace. P.S Once again, this is directed at every nomad.
