I'm usually really sad on these days. Reminds me of how far we are from the walaaltinimo, the pride and tolerance that lead to the 26th June and 1st of July. By all means. May Allah bless the Somalis of those days and give us the insight to follow their footsteps Insha Allah... A Happy 'gaalo-behind-kicking-days' For All my Nomads

Mansha Allah. Congrats Xafsa. True Hibs. Sisterhood rocks.

^^I won't delete it. Nice try Zephyrine. (fuley) Being weird is cool Ayeeyo. You should embrace it as we love you all the more for it. We'll errrr..just let it disappear into page 2.

Not it. You! *Bad day ayeeyo, dee. You understand.. family is easier to bully. They forgive!

Rayaana I'm surprised at you walaalo, thats just disgusting. SubxanAllah, whats with Muslims these days? Walahi it's sad to see how devided and hateful we are towards each other. Those comments you made about Arabs and Indians were uncalled for. I hope you reconsider. As for the topic. I beg to be enlightened, how can two people who pray to the same God, share values and would most probably die for the same principles be so different? There is more to this dunya then the arbitery second-rate issues as culture. Unity of Muslims from different social groups and races through marriage was something encouraged by the Prophet (saw)...

^^Agreed. No one here is qualified to speak ill of people esp. those who clearly have more knowledge than them. It's what creats fitnah and hate between Muslims. xibu tahrir and al mujahruun ar not the family of sunnah and jamaca for the brother who was using it as evidence against salafis' Can you expand on this.. Sahal, Check your PM. Salaams

^^Your welcome Don't be disheartened walaalo. Sahal iyo Salafi-Dacwa dhiigoodaa isu ura. Where one posts the other will appear to argue with him. It's SOLs greatest love-affair Don't let them discourage you from asking questions. Sahal if it's okay for you to express your hate for Salafis, naturally it's okay for Salafi-Dacwa to express his dislike for none-Salafis.

I hate the gym, it reminds me too much of school. I took a GCSE in PE and was there everyday, worse thing is, I was one of only two female students. Imagine, dealing with teen-male ego..every day *yahoo* Funny thing, I stoped going after leaving school and started losing weight or rather body mass. Which was a welcome change because not only did I get slimmer I look more feminine. Another reason not to go gym..but I love walking though.

^^Perhaps, we'll use her radical coup just to clear the imbeciles out of the Houses of Parliament, eh? Kaftan aside, I think we can claim our stake in leadership without resorting radical measures. As tempting as it maybe, but who is to stop Aarweelo when she comes after your sons. Anyway.... You ask, why some women go after useless married men. Simple, waa clueless. Honestly, Somali women are their own enemies 90% of the time. Article 2: Blunkett welcomes law to end female genital mutilation I don't like the idea of involving the Social Services and getting children to spy on parents. These Brits do annoy me. It’s just going to marginalise an already marginalised community. Whatever happened to taking preventative measures ..eh?

Salaams I've heard Hamza Yusuf address this issue himself a few years ago in a lecture he did in Liverpool UK. 1998, it was on Education. You might be able to get hold of that tape or download the lecture from some websites...!! He stated that he isn't a Sufi. However, he has expressed his respects for Tawasuf – which is a form of 'Sufism' that is very different to the mythical version that is so rampant today. The Nomad Nur has posted a really good topic on Sufism for those interested...!! As far as taking the deen from him. I think he's good on certain subjects - I like to follow theories and philosophies of Education and he is one of the best Muslim authorities on that particular field- at least amongst the English speakers. And not so on others. I say follow the advice of Rahima. It’s never been my style to boycott a particular Muslim- (unless blasphemy and the like are involved). However, I always check their ideas with the Quran and Sunnah and books written by more Authentic scholars. I know it's a task. But it's your aakhira. and welcome to SOL..Lander Miss

Salaams, I was going post this interesting article about the changing role of Somali women back home. Then I thought it would be nice to have a thread exclusively dedicated to news articles relating to Somali women. So sisters, read comment and share! Article 1: SOMALIA: Somaliland women take on new roles ^^ I think Somali women have always been the backbone of society- so it isn’t so much a new trend. It’s time society recognized the hard work of our women. Since our sisters have monopolized the markets of Hargaisa (and am sure Muqdishu and cities throughout the Somali lands). I say we set our sights higher… House of parliament anyone?

I'm with Rahima here. It's like the poet said; You tie me up, throw me in the water and expect me not to get wet If you don't make the xalaal easy for the youth, then as a parent your accountable for the sins they commit.

Fave Beauty Tip and Fave Product Chinese Whisper Game!
Blessed replied to Moth_To_A_Flame's topic in General
^^Hey girl. Tip If like me you suffer from sun burn during the summer, crush a few strawberries and leave the the mask on your face for a few minutes- do fight the temptation to lick it off . The result is simply delish, not only does it cool your skin it also leaves a nice little glow Product I never go anywhere without my trusted little Vaseline. Perfect for dry libs, dry hands and clearing off unwanted makeup. Only 99p at a store near you. Goodness, this is FUN! -
Baashe, You've lost me my dear, on one hand you reprimand me for making sweeping generalisation and then state that we have shared habits and characteristics. Hilaacyada bari laiskuma helo huuno, what is your take? I was referring to the cultural / social aspect of our society. I wouldn’t dream of resigning from the Horn ethnically (maan waashey?). J11 has already clarified my position. As a Somali one is subjected constant dictation from others- particularly the elders in our society. As a community we have very rigid ideals of what it is to be Somali, what beliefs a Somali should have. You might say that every society has this. But , it seems that ours takes great effort in imposing those ideals on the youth. I'm not against it totally, as some of those ideals are based on religion and a positive value base. But in more ways than one, the manner inwhich it's passed on creates as stated, identity issues and curbs individual development…I mean whose life is it anyway? The individuals or society?

^^Rather, easier to brainwash Anyway, interesting list of occupations. I must say am a little impressed Mr Underdog. You’ve surpassed my expectations of you (don’t ask). So tell me, who is behind this neat little venture? And do you cover any other areas of development? I fail to see the link between career development and FGM enhancement- what is that btw?
