  1. It's easier said than done but lately I've had this great desire to go back on a long term basis. I'm hoping my parents move there soon, they've been talking about it for so long. Then UK won't be 'back home' (for me) any more and I can go there for 3 months every year.
  2. Mahadsanid, mahadsanid, mahadsandi mahadsanid@ Nasir. I feel like a kid who found a box full of lollies.
  3. Poker, Ma xafiiska diiwaan-gelintaad ka shaqeysaa?
  4. Haha. Every time someone wants to learn Somali, nomads confuse the heck out of them. I agree with Marx. If you want to learn the grammar, you're better off approaching Somali elders and trained professionals. Most of us here have learnt Somali 'naturally' and were not schooled on the rules of language- hence all the differences in translation. MMA, Buuga aad sheegtay magaciisa ma soo ogaan kartaa, baliis?
  5. Malika, She asked a question and at the bottom apologised if her question offended. She is a teenager and she been open about her ignorance of our culture. Most of us on this forum are MUCH older than her and I don't think engaging with her politely indicates a lack of self esteem... You and Ibts made good comments on the differences in our cultures but all the none-sense about curry, Pakistanis not washing and demeaning gross generalisations were uncalled for.
  6. Farid! Sii soco, xagaa iyo bariga u soco. Markaad Batalaale gaadhid, bada isku tuur... How does one worship cows?
  7. This is a really nice lecture series on the children around the Prophet (saw) and how he was with them. Better than any child care book, I say. web page The some other really nice lectures on the website. Will share my notes, I'A.
  8. Dhaadhaan sarxanyo dheer! Bal geographiga soo baro intaanad kaftan iska baadhin.
  9. Other Somalis are a great resource, get your Somali friends to talk to your children about Somalia, Somali culture.. etc. A trip back home would be great, if you can do it. Nothing beats 'dhaqan celis', cultural immersion.
  10. Xaraam calaykum, maxaad inanta yar ee inoo soo wareegtay san ugu bahdisheen? Maxay dadkeedu inaku sameeyeen oo aad u cayaysaan? She only asked for your thoughts on a rumour she has heard from a fellow Somali, a rumour that we're all too familiar with?! The girl came here to learn more about us, our culture and this is how you guys show hospitality, generosity and kindness?
  11. ^Habarwadaag, ma sakaad sariirta ka soo dhacday? Ma qadadii baa lagaa dhmaystay? Ma digaar baad jiidhay mise tii yareed baa voice-meel kuu dhiibtay? Wax baa gadfan. Easy on the sister, eh.
  12. Can I ask about the sudden fascination with MM? 25 years after his death? Everyone is talking about him now.. I've watched a documentary on his life on universal TV the other night, it was pretty good. But why the sudden interest, ma waxbaa soo kordhay? Allah Yarxamuh.
  13. ^LOL. I wouldn't give it to guests either. Does marinating steak for long make it softer / chewy?
  14. A Burcawi worth her/he's ciid wouldn't say something like that anyway. Hees qarisay u tirin lahaayeen. I bet they did, bal aan soo ogaado.
  15. The title should contain the word 'translated', I was expecting something incredible. Good move none the less.
  16. ^kan maad arag? Naxar Nugaaleed I LOVE ****/fetah muus. I want some now..
  17. I sort of agree, there is a global increase in divorce rates. That includes Somalis and generally Muslims. There was an article on this (high divorce rates in Muslim communities) in Jumuah Magazine. However, that your husband might divorce you is not the only motivation for a wife to go work.
  18. Originally posted by sheherazade: they're like Pakistani men only kali-er! I second. I grew up with Pakistanis and there are many similarities between our people. I'd say, with regards to marriage, Somali parents tend to be less involved. Edit I just (ten mins later) got the 'kali-er'. LOOOOOL. But every guy is different, you need to do your research on that particular brother. Welcome to SOL.
  19. ^Ameen. You're right, Sab (why did you change your nick?). Parents have to be proactive. You see so many intelligent kids get into trouble at school because the system can't cater for them.
  20. ^That's the point dear, to make you want it enough to cook it, hence the step by step instructions. You can read, right?
  21. He's an American president. A little decent and I think there is a genuine desire for reform from him but the policies of America will not change because those policies and the interests of America are bigger than any president. It's foolish to think that Obama will change the world. rudy Are you nursing a broken heart over Ibtisams marriage? Shaqo yeelo.
  22. Amina, You're welcome, walaalo. Glad you've found your way.
