  1. Narc-sis..u are right, even following our religion-it's SUNNA & not compulsory. X-quizit sis-you might put the blame on the ladies for CARRYING out the act-but its the MEN who ENFORCE & SUPPORT this horrandeous/barbaric act-especially the PHARAONIC TYPE-or Cliteriodectomy as we know it(friggin' SEXISTS & PATRIOCHIAL). An uncircumsized somali woman would receive scurrilous attacks-and worst of all RUIN her chances of getting to married to a (B*****)/uneducated somali dude-if her parents do not perform the cruel act. Mansha-allah, its our mothers that stand against this act-because they have been through it and are leaning on changing the "norms" that surround this act. The fathers' are really ignorant about this issue unless they are learned and educated about the consequences of such an act(whether its thru' formal/informal education-thru' religion-books,experiences etc). How can it be changed=when men start condoning such barbaric acts by either preaching in Masjids, health centers, familial gatherings..because IT'S THE ROOT OF THE PROBLEM-Jiini waxii keena bixiya.. Our mothers/gals can fight as long as it wants-but the noise is unheard compared to a man's power. (Plz, Iam not saying that females have less power or noise, but this is the case in a patriachial society).

  7. For better or worse, w/out public transportation is a big problem economically, physically, and...etc. Poet---have you ever been outside of Minnesota? If you've been to places like LA, NY, DC and so on, you'll learn the importance of public transportation-So I hope the two parties come to a resolution coz its really undermining many important daily tasks(and might lead to long-term consequences). Yes I ride the bus-because U of M has a big issue/problem when it comes to parking and transportation-except around the campus. There are 80,000 people who attend this campus(students, faculty, staff) but only 19,000 parking spaces-so you do the math bro. Nevertheless, if the metro buses resume..you will be let off the hook-don't you think?(A + for you) .
  8. Opi..why the name change? Maybe Iam the only one who hasn't got a makeover yet... Nomad- 2 balls?should I say Mansha-allah or Bismilah! If a woman is fighting for her right in this patriachial society-does that make her a feminist? I dont think so, its her human right and not an addition or leverage contract here. (For instance, fighting to end the Brutal practices of FGM in countries like Sudan and Somalia). I think the word Feminist is unsymmetrical to how some phrase it (esp. males)under some contexts.

  17. *****eykum Salam sista.. I turned around my life style as well sis, and I can definately atest to your complaints..my advice, drink alot of water.(more than 8 glasses a day)....this will come very easily is make a habit of it..or work-out. Also, I am speculating that you might be zinc-deficient and therefore, need to eat alot of green, leafy vegis to restore some of the nutrients lost. I don't think performing oblution is a major factor, but the reasons above and some other underlying anatomical/visceral problems might be the mighter contributors here. Nevertheless, another tip, is use AV0CADO-buy a fruity one, mash it to smooth texture while removing the roots and such, then apply it to your hair every other weekend or whenever you've got time. I hope this works for you. Your sis, Raula

  20. From a personal testimonial..like some ladies said it-this subject matter is not easy. I mean, saying that I will pack my bags and leave is not that simple. Hell, even with broken bones, some end up staying. There are many reasons for this phenomena: but one of them can be when a horrandeous act like this becomes a custom(and Iam not generalizing all somalis-but majority)-otherwise know as "cultural norm through internalization"-its hard to erase even the traces. In once a patriachial society, an act of domination can become a cultural norm and be passed to generations. Therefore, because some children might have been exposed to this kind of violence in their childhood, it has become normal part of their family constituents. Moreover, even involving family members can sometimes be pain in the A**-a long tedious and complicated process-which sometimes the women has little say in the decision making. On the other hand, a 'conscious,'man would not beat up his wife with no apparent reason-there has to be a reason that initiates the cycle. Unless a woman/man, understands the intensity and repercussions of such violence, solving such an issue is hard-hence, many end up staying in abusive relationships due to fear of being killed, etc. For those who have been/are in abusive relationships, I hope they have the strengh and courage to get out-or do something about it. The best thing to do is Pray to Allah for the abuser and the abused-both to heel and be able to continue with their lives.
  21. <----  Jamaal..is there a simpler, translated version(Laba kwa kilughaa!-SAWAAXILI
  22. OK..change of subject here:-here is my observations..(not really, generalization)! Why is it that Somali guyz prefer 'other' women than somali ladies (especially, whites)? Nevertheless, those guyz who have been with a white woman in the beginning, alwayz brag about what the white woman can do incontrast to the somali girl. Also, many of the somali youth(men)have eroded from their culture,DEEN and family values by entrusting themselves into Clubbing, dressing like the 'ghetto-fab,' dating 'other' ethnicities and so on. Don't they realize that they are jeopardizing their backgrounds? I suggest then, they need to be taken back to Somalia and given a lesson of "how to acculturate in western societies without falling off the edge=101". Disclaimer! this is not my perpective/perception, but hopefully one can spot the generalization/narrow-bended ideology that is depicted in paragraph. This is exactly what the 'poster' of this topic has been emphasizing-only to somali women though. I have also noticed, that GARAB TUJIYE(weird!) always adds 'offending sarcasm' (I actually think its insulting-CAY sometimes) at the end of his posts? and you call yourself a muslim? (what a wonder!) DnD..your post about 'what if we call somali guys this and that' really hit the point---but QQ (pessimistic in some way) hardly noticed the generalization.
  23. Somalian FIRST DATE: you get to take her and her 3 of her friends out to dinner(after waiting an hour downstairs-public housing) SECOND DATE: You go to a movie @ the Mall of America and shopping as well-snicking! but ALAS! you meet her uncle!
