was it with regard to u're race, if so yes. Also q3. was meant to be multiple choise but it screwed up
-
yeah i know. The problem is we cannot generate possible questions dynamically, so its an all or nothing case. so if u vote No to q1. then q2 and q3. dont apply. thanks
-
The poll is crude, but the aim is simple - to gather some info on the number of people that have been subject to racial harassment. Thanks in advance for participating

^ Liibaan sorry man i disagree, the author is just plain wrong with regard to the science. To try to make an analogy with the watchmaker example just shows how little he understands about the subject he is trying to address.

When i see such arguments starting i cant help but have the phrase 'the god of the unkown' come to mind. The point is that by trying rule out the result of investigation, you are effectively saying god covers the bits in between what we know. SO the shock horror thing is that saying the big bang happened does not rule out that a god exists. The event f the big bang just tell you about a mechanism that could e used to explain phenomena that we see, it may be right or wrong but its can be proved. And surprisingly, thats the point of science, nothing more and nothing less. Now my point is that you wanna discuss the inn's and outs of cosmological theory then thats all good, if you wnna discuss the role of god then thats good. But when you start saying that one disproves the other you are in trouble by denigrating the role of a deity to the things in between what you know and elevating the role of hypothesis testing to cause and realisation --

in many many many situations, i think you are right. The problem is not that no one realises it but what to do about it. i.e. given that we know the situation, you are resposnible for your own, society still isnt gonna give you much. It probbaly cant be expected to give you much either. *gross simplification* but if every down and 9out person could rely on their society ro insure they are comfortable, then there would be on insentive to not be down and out. similarly you probably could not get a consensus to support every pregrnant mother. The closest/most civilised mechanism we have to the ideal right now is the orphanage i guess.

Yoonis_crude, I think i have a way to solve the main problems with regard to educating and mixing. You see, since the only need for interaction between men and woman in reality is really only the need to procreate, we could easily completely segragate them and employ eunuchs with a 'turkey-baster' to carry sperm across the men-woman border when needed. This would completely solve the all the problems. there would no longer be any need disturb the modesty of our sisters while bringing them the adequate level of protection and freedom that they require and sadly lack in this our morally corrupt and decedent modern society.

The Islamic Summit: 10-year plan to restructure the Islamic nation
Caano Geel replied to Jabhad's topic in General
In the days of the crusades, the Ottomans conquered Jerusalem while the coptic and catholic leaders were trying to reach a consensus on how many angles could fit on the pin of needle, before joining their forces. with phrases like: Prince Saud explained that by issuing unified fatwas, the academy would prevent the deviants from spreading their evil ideologies. ... Turkey also proposed that OIC member countries collectively design and build a passenger plane. such a meeting is tantamount to intellectual masturbation with power hungry despots engaged in rounds of 'I'll scratch yours if you mine'. Lets not forget most of these people are the heads of regimes hell-bent on keeping a grip on power nothing else. Saudi chops of the heads of people, Turkey throws people in into a dark holes for saying no, The king of Morocco has many a lush palaces while his people risk life and limp to be slaves for the Spanish economy and as we know, the list goes on. Dressing any intent of these 'deviants' up in Islam like those of the mass murderers aught to righteously piss off any one with sense and values. -

Idil, i agree with you on the contraversy of germline therepy, but do you not think its just an extention of our social make up. And infact a potential socail equaliser. Let me put it another, we already socially select based a particular socially defined fitness. You know your child can pottentially have a better life if you have cold hard cash behind you, therefore given the choice of a rich or poor partner, most people will go with the rich. This is in affect social selection. people going with the certainty over doubt. As a species we have aleady transcended the 'biological' as the prominant factor that determins our path in favour of the social. So while blind animals may die of because they are not able to hunt, humans can rely on the extended social infrastructure to look after -hence survive and pass on thier genes. This has two effects, first the mean fitness of out genetic pool is reduced since we homogenise our populations - i.e. diseases that would of wiped out the succeptibe dont anymore, so their defects can be passed on through the generations. Second, we are absolutely reliant on the our extended social structure to maintain us. .. giving a prophetic meaning the ohrase 'no man is an island'. anyhow coming back to my point, isnt germline therepy just another natural by-product of us having more control over our environment.

Callypso-I-like-it-so (just in case you know the song!) most this is still blue skies research, and cannot yet be fully applied. We know these genes do something but we dont understand exactly how they do it. So for example most of gene theraphy i've read of the gene modification is applied to the embryo i.e a lab rat with the particular gene is engineered. As far as delivery methods go, this is crude to say the least. but its hoped that technologies such as nano-technology i.e. minirobots or specificaly eng. pathogens will deliver the theropy. As far as cancers go, who knows?! we are only begining to understand the micro-scale behaviour of the genes, their macro-scale behaviour, especially when you consider the cummulative effect of many genes interacting is too complex to analyse as yet. The field is still to young to consider as something that is truely reliable or viable, but it does offer many many exciting possibilities idil, thanks for the post, tell us more -- Castro, yes its all xaram which is why you are not allowed to do it . cheers
