  1. For the sake of this blessed month, I would like to forward one simple suggestion to Shyham, wildcat, and others who might have an axe to grind. "Please burry the hatchets". I hope these post gets to the wall before any negative response. I also hope all the parties concerned to understand the importance of forgiving each other and moving on. I am not a moderator or someone who can force you into anything. It is only a brotherly suggestion. Ramadaan Mubarak!

  3. I would like to propose "A Mighty Collision of Two Worlds" as the first book to be discussed on this noble club. This are the reasons: 1. It is very well written ... great entertainment and enlightenment 2. It has many subjects relevent to us and worth discussing 3. It is been written by one of us (A Nomad) who is very talented 4. The story is capturing as you might be able to relate in many of the situations/plots 5. I can honestly say Safi Abdi is a world class author, and once you give her the chance, I am positive she will take you to places you never been and introduce you to familiar and not so familiar characters. I started last night, and I am allready at chapter 6. Very juicy 6. It is very accessable. You can buy it from book store, or online, even in electronic format. I hope everyone agrees on this one. Where are you guys? Rock's Chick are you reading commandante Ramadan Kariim

  5. To have business in many parts of Somalia you have to incorporate with business or individuals that are tribally connected to the area. It could be Bay, Kismayo, Bosaso or Hargaisa for that matter. This has its advantages as many of the companies in Somalia expanded in size and profit. Reality is, no one in Somalia is free to trade or invest freely! Cheers!
  6. OG_Moti, They say picture is worth 1000 words Mr. President try to copy the image path into your address bar to see. Don't click the link Here are the files: 1. It is up to the community to get together and find viable solutions. Cheers

Barwaaqo I do not live in the UK and can not comment specificly about the situation there but I do agree with the suggestion of sister Soul_Lady 100%. Subsidy housings may safe you few bucks at the moment, but these places are full of bad influences for the children such as drugs, prostitutions, gangs, teen pregnancy and what have you! I will also add to that, it is necessary for our own survival everyone to get involved in the matters of our communities and our own developement. After school programs such as tutoring, sports, and even religious studies (dugsi quraan) are proven ways to inspire kids to do the right things, while giving them a head start in real life. I do understand the anger we might feel in such tragedies as this, but arming ourselves and forming gangs to protect ourselves, as some of you suggested, will only create more problems. Secondly, imho, we should model ourselves after communities that are sucessful and use their formulas. We should ask ourselves what this communities did to preserve their language, religion, culture, values, and family integrity in diaspora? We can learn a whole lot from the Jews, Greek, and Italians if we want to work for it. I am very proud of the good samaritan hero who got off the bus to help out his countryman in need. I wish both of them a quick recovery... Cheers.
  9. I HATE THIS ICON ====> In real life it is called "huruf" and is not a pretty sight to look at. I do not know if it is only me or if others feel the same, but those rolling eyes make the poster look immature, and it becomes dificult for me to take them serious. Some of you even use it as a decoration. What's up with that? PHEW! I needed that! Thanx Cutie Cheers!
  10. LST... bro this is how the 'right wing' treat us when they get our votes ... btw yan you imagine there used to be a somali guy writing that kind of commentary for the post or another one of those crappy right wing papers. Yesterday I read in the papers where the republican candidate in MN said that he was in tears when he heard how Somalis are marginalised in the system! That must be the biggest Balogni (sp? as judge Judy would say) I ever heard from a politician. The only way to get back at them is to show them this country is made of immigrants and give our votes to the left and be as far left as we can be. Here is how we might break down 1. In the USA we should vote for the democrats 2. In Canada we should vote for the NDP or Liberals 3. In the UK Labour ... I guess even thought I don't follow their politics maybe others will enlighten us how they do in Europe. And why not get one of us running for an office? It could happen cheers!

  13. This game is becoming more like quiz than Jeopard. Guys you should make up your minds... anyhow I will answer my question, then Mobb_Deep question, and leave another jeopardy. Famous Quotes for 500: "640K ought to be enough for anybody." Who is Bill Gates What is XML? Extensible Markup Language, a specification developed by the W3C, designed especially for Web documents and allows designers to create their own customized tags. The rule of the game is to present an answer and the person responding will write the question as in the first post of LST.

  17. Hi Barwaaqo ... I shouldn't be waiting by the phone and should be the one calling. But if she doesn't return my call with acceptable amount of time I will have to assume she isn't interested and move on. When no call, she she might be telling you "I am not interested" or she might be saying "Come and get me". Either way I wouldn't want to find out. Cheers!

  22. This is a wonderfully narated story that is captivating! I beleive it is safe to say it is much better than the previous part as Xina shows her true self and confidently takes matters into her hands. This is one of those rare moments they call "Magic!", "love at first sight" if you will. I think the plot is set to develop and some "juicier" staff will be in store for us Very well done Scorpion_Sista Cheers
  23. Who said there is no attraction between "Just Friends"??? Since we can't be friends with every Caasho/Farax we meet or wants to become our friend there MUST be attraction between those who form friendships. In my humble opinion, you can only be attracted to those who share your interest, dreams, experiences and so on to make the bond of friendship. We bring them into our world, share our private thoughts, and always feel comfortable to be around. Friendshi has to be based on loyalty, equality, and respect. Friends are equal, and without equality, you can't have a close friendship. Someone who wants you as a lover might settle for "just friends" for a while, but that person will never become a true friend as long as his/her needs are not met. Friends are loyal and trustworthy because no one can confide in someone they can not trust to be loyal and to keep his/her secrets. I avoided the word "plotonic" intentionally in hopes of focus on our own perspectives as somali, but I guess we also identify ourselves with the cultures we live in. Therefore what about a platonic friendship with non-somali? I believe our value system is so important to us that our friends' values must be close to our own or we will not have respect for them. It goes further to overcome all the social obsticles such as racism. Infact many Somalis will see themselves as above avarage for having a friend that is not form his tribe. Sad but true. Thanks Legend of Zu, sMiLeY, Shiish, Maandeeq, Scorbion_sista, Ameenah, Pretty boy, Lefty, The Rock's Chick, Fu'aad, Magnoona-girl, Wiilwaal, x_quizit, Muna, CANBARO-LUUL, and Mysterious for your your contributions. I indeed learned a lot from this subject since starting this thread...
  24. Admin, The trouble with the chatroom is that it is painfully slow. It is not firewall friendly and makes IE unstable. No OS crush yet, but I can't count that out. It is doing that to a powerhouse pc with over 500 MB Ram. I think you should wait untill all bugs are fixed. Cheers!
  25. I think cloning will one day be as common and acceptable as test tube babies. When you take away the Hollywood fantasy movies, and the misconceptions about the subject by the public/media, what you will end up is much different picture all together. Reproducing babies by test tube did not make the natural process of "baby making" an obsolete and cloning will not replace it either. If you think about it humans rarely have reproduction in mind when "making babies". Some of the process associated with cloning are fatal in the fight against some of the deadliest diseases. On the other hand, I don't think there will be clones for human spare parties, because if two identical twins have different souls, and each and every test tube baby has a soul of its own, then clones will have their own unique soul. If we put aside the ethics question, the act of taking one’s own organs without their consent will be highly illegal in most of the nations. Moreover, if we have clone of Scorpion_sista, she may have the exact DNA structure of you, but she cannot have the same life: mind, soul, life experience and all the stuff that makes up Scorpion_sista. You cannot have immortality without being able to replicate life, and science of course did not claim doing that. Besides the rich being the ones that maybe able to afford this expensive technology can not be a good reason to deny humanity its benefit. Cheers!
