  11. About time i say!! Slain Ethiopian troops paraded in Mogadishu streets Posted 7 hours 43 minutes ago Masked Islamist insurgents on pick-up trucks paraded what they said were the bodies of three Ethiopian soldiers in the streets of Mogadishu on Friday, an AFP correspondent reported. The show of defiance by the Shabab, the radical armed wing of the main Somali Islamist movement, came when a four-day lull was shattered by renewed fighting in the capital's southern neighbourhoods. "We will keep killing them until they get out of our country," shouted one of the gun-toting insurgents. His face hidden behind a red turban, the Islamist fighter and his two fellow insurgents toured the southern Barubah neighbourhood for several minutes with their gruesome trophy. "The people who invaded our country are dying every day in the fighting," an AFP reporter heard the man shout. Witnesses confirmed an artillery duel between Ethiopian forces and insurgents in the nearby Gupta neighbourhood, in the first night marred by major clashes since Ali Mohamed Gedi resigned from the premiership on Monday. According to witnesses, the latest spate of attacks in the restive seaside capital left four Ethiopian troops, two civilians and an insurgent dead. The death toll could not be immediately confirmed by medical sources. Residents said at least one Ethiopian soldier was killed when raiding suspected Islamist insurgent hideouts in southern Mogadishu's Al-Baraka neighbourhood. A landmine killed a Somali soldier who was collecting tax in a market in Baladweyne township, about 300 kilometres north of the capital, witnessess said. Ethiopian troops have been venturing deeper into the streets of Islamist bastions in recent days, in a bid to break the back of an insurgency that has plagued efforts to stabilise the transitional government for months.

  14. Thu. November 01, 2007 11:31 am.- By Mahad Hassan. - Send this news article Hundreds of young people have staged demonstrations in north of the Somalia capital Mogadishu on Thursday against the presence of the Ethiopian forces in the country, witnesses said – as dozens of civilians killed in the four days of fighting in Mogadishu. The people took the street of Suuqa Xoolaha village in Huriwa district, the most hotbed area in north of the capital where the government troops always met strong resistance from the suspected Islamic militants. The protestors mostly young men were chanting anti Ethiopian slogans and throwing stones at the business shops telling them to join the rally. It is the second time within a week that dwellers in Huriwa district protested against the Ethiopians. Abdi Weyte, a local resident told Somalinet by the phone that demonstrators burnt the Ethiopian flag and blocked all roads. The latest rally came as the allied troops of Ethiopia and Somalia conduct constant security raids in Huriwa district where the militants ambushed the local municipal yesterday. Mogadishu, the war-ravaged city in Somalia, has been a battle zone between the Ethiopian backed Somali interim government troops and more intensified local insurgents linked with the ousted Islamic Courts Union.
