  1. hmmmmm! It's hard not to lack of hope at times Abaayo but are we really the "Miserable?" There is no medicine like home (Somalia), no incentive so great (our language), and no tonic so powerful as expectation of something tomorrow (Somalia's future). If we were to define hope as Marden did then I'd would say we are quite a hopeful bunch or atleast I'm.....and I'm a Somali rest assured, measure for measure.
  2. Somalia So maal Caana’ah The Land of Milk And Honey Of Acacia and palm Trees That kiss each other Like old lovers The place where The shah placed his seat And seeds were implanted Yet formed roots in different places Land of Faces of varies skin tones Like a kaleidoscopic rainbow but with no pot of gold at the end Land where death is welcomed Like a dear friend gone too long Where Life forms flicker Like a lit candle in the wind I was born in this Land that I call my home but can't call it my own Yet I mourn though I have nothing at stake I’m an ocean away But my heart breaks To pieces like glass that shatters Hearing tales so cold Of 6 year olds Who fear old age More than death With every breath Gaining optimistic pessimism Of Lost innocence So understand why My eyes begin to mist Why I see optical Illusions Like I’m deluded Losing sight of sight Wishing to see peace where my heart Met my Mind But seeming like I’m blind I’m not hopeless Completely But the hope is less dearly but I still dream of peace thou it doesn’t dream of me nor those eternally sleep under 6 feet deep

    Arabic Poem

We used to have a dwelling and we used to have a home And I paid for its salvage the greatest of sacrifices With these hands of mine I buried your brother in it without a “kafan“! If I cried once then it’s only because I had to bear the loss of both Two wounds in my side, a dead son and exile! A wasted boy and a subjugated motherland! Thanks for posting the poem, it was enjoyable read. It is sad to see a parent refer to their child as wasted yet more sad for a parent to acknowledge their child is wasted [in terms of Islam].
  4. Thanks for the feed back, Viewer and BOB. Poets: What motivates you to write a poem/piece? Like viewer, my mood, current events, and what is happening or what I want to happen in my life. Poets: How would you describe your style? New age....Spoken Word-ish.....Mellow Poets: Do you see imperfection in your poem that others don't/ are you satisfied with what you write? I belief in Valery's philosophy...A poem is never finished but abandoned therefore, I'm always satisfied with what I write but I do wish (at times) I could of wrote/worded a bit different etc. Poets and readers: Who is your favorite nomad poet? explain why please (1 or many) (I mean when you see a poem by this nomad you just have to read it) The list is too long. Dawaco and Jamal, they embody [in my opinion] the classical vibe of poetry, simple eloquence. Bob and DV, Their poems are always interesting to read because they engage the reader, they make you drawn to their poems. Nin.Nool, he is brilliant and a very talented wordsmith. Besbaaso,Viewer and Phoenix's styles are simple yet complex (an oxymoron huh) they all convey in a clear manner what they wrote about and I can relate to their poems (very well put together and meaningful). Poets and readers: Which nomad's style of writting do you wish to emulate? I wouldn't wish to emulate any body's style. One's style constantly changes on its own as one grows older/matures (in terms of experience and exposure) but other poets (Nikki Giovanni )do at times inspire one to write in a certain way which developes (in due time)to one's own unique style. Mentally incapable kulahaa. Bob and not Icon Bob, you did miss something..........The truth.
  5. One of my cousins says ..."and sh!t" after every sentence and I do mean after every sentence. For example: I'm going to work later and sh!t, after that I'm gon' do my homework and sh!t, like shoot some hoops and sh!t...so what are you going to be up to later and sh!t? My ears feel like they been forcefully hit with thousands of lashes every time I hear him talk. I, on the other hand can't help saying.....Die Hard especially when I'm irritated so I was just wondering if you guys have a phrase, or saying others deem a wee bit weird....and if you do....share!...

  7. Mansha'allah Bob! and not Icon Bob....I always "jaceel" how describtive your poems are and cut to heart of the matter. It is hard to picture and often times write about events since you have put yourself in that place and that particular time, over and over again to understand what they must of been going through. Mansha'allah to both of you. Powerful Words.
  8. Disclaimer: It is not a Poem I just have some simple questions and I would like some feedback. Please. Poets: What motivates you to write a poem/piece? Poets: How would you describe your style? Poets: Do you see imperfection in your poem that others don't/ are you satisfied with what you write? Poets and readers: Who is your favorite nomad poet? explain why please (1 or many) (I mean when you see a poem by this nomad you just have to read it) Poets and readers: Which nomad's style of writting (other than yours )do you wish to emulate?
  9. Abaayo The 2nd and 3rd Qoutes were meant for Raganimo's "abhorrent acclimatization into western cultures" comment. In my thinking I sort of thought he was saying, their lack of understanding Islam was the result of being in a western society ...Therefore, I was just stating that abortion used to happen in somalia, a predominately Muslim country in the eastern part of the world. I know it was a western concept but you can't blame the idealogy (Western ideals) but the action (Abortion) and the person who acts upon those ideals when in fact they know its Haram. They're imatating a Gaal but I do believe a person CAN make this choice if they believe it is the best way while knowing it is a sin. If i'm being repetative or nonsensical disregard this comment. lol@I'm just glad I'm not a chick...Iyaa? Chick kulahaa My hooyo wasn't a dhooro.
  10. Originally posted by -Femme Fatale-: Excuse me? Our opinions, thoughts, and feelings on this subject does not matter at all. If Allah has stated that abortion is HARAM then there should be no discussion on whether its a woman's right or not. Abaayo to my knowledge Allah hasn't deemed abortion in its entirety haram. In actuality if the baby is threat to your health then you may abort it but if it's for the nonsensical reasons Raganimo stated then you are committing a sin.......a grave one. Be that as it may The reason why alot of somali girls mostly teens are aborting their babies is because They don't want a tarnished reputations, to have a child out of wedlock, disgrace their family, may not have the means to support a child, may be a child themselves, etc. To blame the western world for the lack of understanding young somali girls have for Islam is a bit naive. I remember my mom telling me how in Somalia abortion and premarital sex was a norm (First comes sex, second baby, Your brain starts to think?? then the cowards way out Abortion.....The cycle of sin) Furthermore, I'm a somali born, American bred girl and I have retained my Islamic ideals because I live in a westernized society. Also, I believe a woman has a right to choose to have abortion. If you think that is the best choice for you then do it for allah gave us brains that allowed us to make choices whether be a sin or a good deed. I'm not here to sit in judgement of others...but I'd advice to prolong the thinking before you act.
  11. The Perfect Man The man to judge against all men Well I want somebody that is a nobody for nobody is perfect so perfect their imperfections are perfect their flaws are a treasure chest like a gold D cup Bra Dig? I want somebody that is.... Complex like Orwell Poetic as Hemmingway Attitude of Malcolm X You know the kind that boast and stay conceited with an archaic smile.. Word is bond but 007 lied to me Mentality Perhaps I want him to be funny like Cigaal Shiidaad or kind of like my grand dad You know old but gold but at heart Young and wise or maybe a Qamis wearing Kutab reading preaching One Ummah brotha Dig? Kind of like a jam to my peanut butter You know A man to judge against all Men but understand A man is what I want A man that doesn't need me to feel like a Man but embodies the essence the word.. Dig? Kind of like My Man The standard of which I judge all Men.

  13. ^^^^LoooooL You sound like a child who lost his favorite toy. lol Oh Dear won't somebody give him his toy back before he throws a temper tantrum. Whether Caabudwaaq,Balanbal, and Dhabad inhabitants choose to or not join Puntland is not a decision that we've to make. Oppose it for be for it.....There is nothing you can do it about it.As for the pseudo poliTRICKian ...uh here is a thought read something that isn't partial to one qabiil(i.e, Allpuntland or Gedonet),and might actually be a reliable news source were the rest of Somalia is concerned. Hey, who knows you might actually get facts that are indeed facts and not nonfacts (nonsensical BS) as I have read far too many times on this thread....
  14. Love, I love you like loving me was like loving you I mean to say it's like being unselfish I love you like it's utterly free like its undoubtedly, like its my heart, the best of me materialized in a human form see, with Skin like mahogany as if kissed by the sun Body long and lean tangled with mine as if we're one Eyes so Golden that darken when they feel passion Lips so lush everytime I chance to glance I feel as if I need mouth to mouth resuscitation So rescue...for I'm surely in need of it surely in want of ... Your Love....Love, I love you like loving me was like loving you. Unselfishly, and utterly free.
  15. Jamal, Jamal, Jamal 11(is there a jamaal 12 I wonder) I love the intro stanza. It set up the mood of the poem nicely. expressive and achingly sweet piece topped with Powerful words. ah! a dessert fit for a poet.

  17. my greatest fear is fate itself. Truer words have never been written. Mansha'allah you captured the essence of the poem in a single sentence.
  18. The honesty in Raganimo's some what pessimistic statement can't be ignored but it isn't as bleak as he paints it. When I was young (from 1st up till 10th grade year)I was pure in my thinking of "Somalinimo" meaning I thought all somalis were one qabiil(i.e, one family)until I switched to this school that most somali kids in my city attended around my junior year..It was an eye opening experience for me and they "molested" my Somalinimo ideology. One day, we were having a Somali meeting and two students got into an arguement about who should be treasurer and I made a sarcastic remark about somalis and our love of money...and this dude remarked that I should know about love of Money since my relatives lived off and stole Somalia's taxes. Then, everybody proceeded to laugh. I didn't know what was so humorous about it so I just rolled my eyes and gave him the finger. Unknown to be, snide remarks such as that were a normal occurance in this school. Ever since that meeting I noticed my peers making comments more crude and crass about one's qabiil affliation to the point of coming to blows and oftentimes succeeding. It is incidents such as these that can change somebody either for better or worse, sometimes I used to think hey! everybody is working for their qabiil they don't care about somalia or somalinimo so why do you? They trully did molest my view of Somalis as one Family. It took me two years of soul searching and researching about past events that happened in somalia and how they effected people in a particular region. I'd tried to understand why certain people feel a certain way and why others don't share that feeling. Basically, I searched for the truth about events instead of getting the Radio Muqdisho,Hergeisa, Galkacyo, or Baardhere Version . I realized my Qabiil is part of me and I can't change which one I'm born into but neither can I change the fact that I'm somali. Religion aside I chose to be identified as a Somali first and my qabiil second.

I'm guessing that his reply would be one of epic proportions in its earnest defense of our current president. After all Love for one's clansmen tends to turn one a wee bit hypocritical at times.
  20. One must clean up their backyard before they start on the frontyard of others. That being said, You may call me naive and impressionable but what I don't understand regarding this debacle and farce need for justice is how putting one man behind bars and robbing him of his dwindling pension will make up for 50,000 lives lost. We can't turn back the hands of time nor rewrite the past. Every somali, whether living abroad or in Somalia have suffered and been victims. Furthermore, Caaqil's notion of Forgiving and forgeting isn't so bad, samir is one of the virtue's that defines a muslim. In conclusion, I'm not pleading his innocence but I don't see what they mean to accomplish by condemning him after all these years. As Wind.Talker said.....Tii Alle baa u hartay.

  22. If Life is Challenging Then are we the Challenged? If reality is dreams with out clothes is fantasy the cloth of reality’s dreams? I ask… If silence is Golden Then is Violence Platinum? If the hour is dying Is the dying in the hour? If every Minute Death gets nearer Is life getting further? If we all know Death is destined Then why do act as if life is eternal? I’m answering these questions But I’m questioning these answers Can’t you see, With Eyes wide shut? See, you can’t With Shut wide eyes But I can…. Help you see that…. Life is a vicious cycle Like PMS Praying is like a Midol A balm to the Cramps and aches of Satan Which I’m hating Cause like L.A cops, He uses Brutal force Till like a cremated corpse, You become No-body He’s Allah’s Mortal Enemy Here on earth tempting me To turn away From my righteous path So I can end up in Hells abyss with out a chance To repent for life of sin I may of have led Had I not stopped following him This I’ve realized When reality become fully clothed And fantasy stood in its birthday suit Like I turned 19 At 17, I was blind and out of my mind Now 18, I’m Sound and I regained my sight Because Life is a test And am I trying to get A’s Like a teacher’s pet.
  23. Xasbunulaahu wa nicmal wakiil. What I marvel at is that a man who has worshiped allah faithfully for the most part of his life easily took a wrong turn from the rightous path he was on which proves regardless of how strong one's Imaan is..that We're all sinners who need to be reminded of the will of allah. The second story reminds me of the story my dad (may allah grant him enterance to paradise)told me regarding a man who sinned through out cimrikiisa. I don't recall if it was at the time of prophet Muse or Ciise (SCW)but anyway when this man became quite old he thought about the sins that he commited and how he hadn't seeked redemption from allah. He feared allah's wrath and understood because of sins he was headed to hellfire. He was so scared that he called all of his children to his house. He told them that when he dies they must cremate him and throw his ashes to the sea. In his ignorance he thought that would be a full proof way to escape hell for how could allah punish him in hell if he was already burned to crisp. so he died thinking he was safe. Unfortunately,in a matter of seconds his ashes was gathered together, much to his amazement but because his fear for allah was so great once he realized how he had transgressed while on earth, Allah pardoned him and granted him enterance to paradise. During this story, I learned that allah's mercy is like a boundary that is boundless. Also, I learned how fortunate that I'm to be born a muslim who is given the chance of getting into paradise when so many others are born Ehelu Naar. Jazaa'kalaahu Khayr.
  24. <----Part Sijui part Mlendo....and Dang Proud of it Well...My brothers say that calling me Ugly would be a compliment but My hooyo..may allah grant her enterance to paradise.. thinks I'm pretty anyway so .... PostScriptum On a serious note, beauty is like a sunrise...You can admire it but at the end you know it will fade away.Only the beauty of your Imaan can last a lifetime
