I love Dahabsiil. They're absolutely the best.

J11, actually I received the copy from the translator herself (from a European country), so it's in a language you probably don't know (shock horror I'm "eurotrash"!) Is Yasmeen's novel a thriller? I thought it sounded quite Revolutionary Road.

Do you think Machines have taken over part of your life?

I came across an unsually interesting looking Somali guy today at around 7PM in Oxford Circus. You: light coat, black trousers, fabulous poise. Me: ... yeah. Anyway I'm taking this opportunity to temporarily turn this forum into an extention of Thelondonpaper. Obviously this thread has no real purpose. Well, perhaps to boost our sisters' morale (namely Cynical Lady); there are some very interesting looking Somali guys out there.

My brother had a s-lander friend who came round our house when we were younger. My mum asked whether he'd have some baasto and he replied: "in yar". That was to be his name.

Peasant, clearly Norsfky (that is a very Jewish sounding nick btw) is providing an answer to the OP's question. Originally posted by ANTARA: Yesterday as I was coming home from town, I saw this good looking sister walking in front of me and I subconsciously walked a bit faster just to catch up with her as this was by far the best chance I Had to strike up a conversation with the qalanjo. Mind you I was looking to talk to her for a long time and I have a feeling she has already fallen for me too. Anyways, I managed to get close to her even though I wasted some time admiring her long legs. I tried to start up the conversation with the first thing that came to my mind so I said to her “Inaabti dheeridaa ma dhulkaad ku nooleyd.” She looked my way laughing and said something I couldn’t quite understand. I carried on with my shukaansi determined not to miss this opportunity so I got even closer to invite her to the book launch event ( I completely made up the launch event so as to not appear that I was asking her out) next week in the local library which she might want to attend. Unfortunately, before I even finished the conversation, like a bolt out of the blue her brother came out from nowhere and told me to get away from his sister. The rascal is in his early twenties so I could have just explained myself somehow but it was all the more embarrassing because the local imam who was striding along that little alleyway made the situation even worse. What an embarrassment that was! Well I just said sorry and walked away as I was told in the hope of salvaging something out of that mess. This brings me to the question of whether her brother was right in what he did or wrong? I wouldn’t really want to be in his place but I would have probably felt the same way had my sister been in the receiving end of such a fierce shukaansi attack. Reacting the way he did is out of the question for me though, you have to always have a touch of reer magaalnimo. In the end your sister will walk away with a man of her choosing one day and your preference when it comes to it will be a secondary consideration if anything at all. Haye bal share any shukaaansi situations that went wrong plus any 2 cents you might want to add. OMG you're so lame. That is not the way to go about it. When will you men learn? This is so exciting. I once saw a woman knitting on the tube, I just kept staring at her knitting. What is it about knitting that's so interesting? Or are we just a bunch of boring weirdos?

An investigative journalist disguises himself as a Somali and takes the name Kwag Ogonna. What is wrong with this sentance?

The ideal beauty is rich. If the upper classes decide ocean blue is the complexion to have, every poor person will work their ar$e off to buy bleach that'll turn their skin deep blue sea.

Nomad Diaries: A Romantic Thriller by Yasmeen Maxamuud 1970s Mogadishu. Political parties, beach parties, assassinations and a tragic love in a fading country. Now that would sell. On a more serious note, the synopsis is too long. Has anybody read Ignorance is the Enemy of Love? Someone gave it to me as a gift, but I've never had the time to read it. Any good? Thoughs, comments?

How can having stains on your teeth be considered pretty??

^ I actually think people with small foreheads look like monkeys (no pun intended, Johnny) BIG FOREHEADS ARE BEAUTIFUL!

^Jews believe it's harmful to mix meat and milk. I don't know how haram it is, but I semi-adhere to this too. It just tastes gross, drinking milk with hilib. Though with Orthodox Jews I think it's all dairy products?

It's not just Somalis, it happens to pretty much every minority group in the world when they enter a world dominated by another culture. A few are bound to be lost to the prevailing culture. Culture change affects both sexes, but in different ways. Where with girls it mostly affects the way they dress, with boys it seems to affect their behaviour (as there are no major differences in men's dressing but a big difference in their social behaviour). What Somalis need are positive role models. There are a few but it seems that whenever someone becomes successful they are so consumed by their job, they don't have time to be role models. Then there are a few who think they're too good for the Somali community, and only enjoy being in the company of the members of the prevailing culture. And then there's of course the rest of us who go "kaasna maxuu yahay" or "muxuu yacaanaa". It seems we only reserve our respect for those of white skin colour or a long dead Somali. The last paragraph's for ALL OF YOU in this thread .

^I think there should be a 'delete' option in addition to 'edit', don't you agree? Of course you do, I saw your 'I need a GF thread'.

It appears that since Somalis can't do certain activities for a certain reason, they overcompensate by having a dozen shukaansi saaxiibs they chat with throughout the night! Am I wrong? Tell you what, for once on this thread, why dont you and others provide the evidence to prove God's existance? I cant wait for it. My reasoning is presented in the THIRD post in this thread. What's your reason for believing He doesn't exist? You were molested as a child and hence there can't be a creator? Or perhaps you have some "conclusive", "irrefutable" evidence? Also, I am waiting for Ramsaade to respond to my post and the specific questions I asked him.

"However Mehdi Khazali, an internet blogger, who called for an investigation of Mr Ahmadinejad's roots was arrested this summer." It seems even the West is a little reluctant as the title is a bit misleading. How can one have a "Jewish past"? Mahmoud Ahmadinejad either is a Jew or he isn't (by ethnicity). Obviously according to this news he is. This is very weird. Who would have guessed? My father is going to be shocked! I'm leaning towards the whole Israel-wants-to-take -over-the-middle-Eas t theory, they've covered the Saudis: http://www.express.c o.uk/posts/view/1302 51/Saudis-will-let-I srael-bomb-Iran-nucl ear-site#

Originally posted by Ismahaan: quote:Originally posted by G G: I think it's disgusting you're linking to that video - especially considering you're a female yourself. I don't mind the model photos but there were many pictures of regular xalimos who most likely did not give their consent for this sort of distribution. Shame on you. You have dressed your comment up quite nicely portraying yourself as some kind of victim xalimo , but in reality all you are doing is insulting Muslim-Somali women and Somali culture as a whole. A Muslim-Somali sister shouldn’t be posting her pictures up on the internet--- in the first place. In fact Somali sister who fear Allah should not expose her adornment or beauty except those whom she is permitted. I apologise if my point of view offended any of my female readers, but I don't see much of a difference between a Model and a Somali sister who exposes her beauty on the internet by wearing scanty clothing. This is expressed in the following Quranic verses "Say to the believing men that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty ; that will make for greater purity for them and God is well acquainted with all that they do. And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what (must ordinarily) appear thereof ; that they should draw their veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty except to their husbands, their fathers, their husbands' fathers, their sons, their husbands' sons, their brothers or their brothers' sons, or their sisters' sons, or their women, or the slaves whom their right hands possess, or male servants free of physical needs, or small children who have no sense of the shame of sex ; and that they Should not Strike their feet in order to draw attention to their hidden ornaments. And O ye Believers I turn ye all together towards God that ye may attain Bliss.''(Sura 24- verse 30,31) Verily Allah knows best Ps: The video is viewable to everyone and was posted on you tube by someone else not by me My dear Ismahan. The girls were not all wearing scanty clothing, look at the video again - there were a few grainy photos (of normal looking girls) which were obviously captured (webcam or some other source such as MSN stealing). If you thought [the girls] the video was insulting to Somali culture, you would have not paraded it as some sort of evidence of Somali beauty supremacy. In any case, I know what Islam says but I also know it says ceebta dadka waa loo asturaa. Even if all the girls wore bikinis, that doesn't give you the right to distribute it. In fact, the more inappropriate you feel the content is, the more reluctant you should feel about sharing it. Oh and I didn't portray myself as a victim - in fact I don't think I mentioned anything about myself, so your remark is very odd indeed  Perhaps you are under the impression I am posting my photos in "scanty clothing", and defending it on SOL, hmm? In any case this really isn't worth pursuing further (I am disrupting your thread with my unwanted seriousness), so I wish you a pleasant weekend, and get back to assembling Lego Indy 2, which I claim to be doing just out of good nature.
