It was for my friend, not me In any case, seeing as I have lived here my entire life, I would lie if I said I didn't like it here. You are asking whether the donkey likes being a donkey. What else do I know of? But because I like studying others around me, I've come to learn that Europe does more harm than good for the good majority of Somalis. We are a weak nation and we bend and break very easily. So unless you were born into this madness or came at a very young age, the chances are, you'll sink into learned helplessness. And even if you were born or came young, the changes still are, you're still going to sink into learned helplessness. Unless you are made of steel. In which case you will succeed anywhere, even where you are right now (or your friend is).

Originally posted by Sherban Shabeel: quote:Originally posted by Mr. Somalia: ^ Sherban, you confuse evolution with religion, or lack thereof. The two in my opinion, are totally different. For instance, I believe in evolution, which is basically when organisms adapt to their respective environments over time and change anatomically or physically. At the same time, I believe that everything, including these evolving organisms and time itself, were created by Allah(SWT). And both of these beliefs of mine, do not contradict one another. This is my opinion exactly, but people on these boards often fail to make this distinction, and seem to think that only atheists can believe in evolution. I've been trying to say for ages that belief in God and belief in evolution are perfectly compatible. Evolution is a fact. It's evolutionary theory people find hard to stomach. There's a discussion about this in the debate's section, please don't hijack this thread, go there instead. BTW as a side note, as a Muslim you can't really believe in human's evolutionary process as it is clear from the Quran that God created Banu Adam as separate lineage. Climate change isn't man made! (to get us back to the topic)

I don't even know how to describe this , but you can be sure it's not for a convenient place to set the car keys. I know we like our ladies to have long graceful necks, but I bet this would be considered excessive. Beauty is subjective, and that's what makes it so marvelous. Of course. Every culture/population have their view of beauty. That is not stripping it to an individual level. I'm sure loving a woman with a short neck in that culture where they adore women with long necks, would be unsual. Beauty cannot be overtly subjective. Otherwise I could claim my handmade bird's house is far superior to Michelangelo's David. And that is what I meant with an epistemological quagmire. I'm not a philosophy student and I don't even know how I remember that particular branch of philosophy, but what it basically asks is 'what is truth' and in epistemological relativism there is no truth, nothing can be known because *everything* is relative. So what I am basically trying to say here is let us not get into that nonesense - there is some common ground; that different individuals in the same population can agree upon when determining what is beautiful.

New Year resolution, isn't that synoymous with breaking promises?

Originally posted by Mr. Somalia: It's funny how NASA instruments on the Mars rover missions have shown that the atmosphere of Mars fluctuates just as much as, if not more than, the atmosphere of planet Earth. So I guess we're causing the pollution over there as well? This global warming hype is just that-- A BIG HYPE! It's a shakedown for big money, in the form of higher taxes with the ultimate goal of a few people in the know becoming incredibly wealthy, and subjugating and controlling the ignorant poor masses of the world by forcing them into further poverty and instilling dependence on an all powerful government. Basically, it's another way of tricking the masses into willing compliance to an all controlling regime, while telling them that their willing sacrifice is good for the planet. In the meantime Al Gore $CO will continue to travel the world in their humongous jets and enjoy the finest luxuries money can buy. Of course, this will all be paid for with our carbon credit taxes! You hit the nail on the head.

I fail to see how that question is relevant at all. Correct and needless to say it has nothing to do with the topic at hand, but generally its a basic human decency to address a lady as a lady and gentleman as a gentleman, when conversing or debating, even in internet medium, what baffles me is the Who's me in here! When you get time read about this guy called George Monbiot - one of those who made their name on this topic - he writes on the british guardian - some call him the prophet of the doom, others a wise whistle blower and a pure environmentalist. This his blogg OK. I simply found it odd that you wanted to know my gender before proceeding with the discussion. I admire your good manners, but it is perfectly fine to just refer to me as 5. Thanks for the link. I have a terrible headache right now, so I can't really read it. I've bookmarked it. As for my gender; it's no secret, it's there in my posts. Dig through, it's much more fun that way for me

Life in Europe, very shortly, paralyzes you and those around you and is quite miserable. But you're not looking to hear that. So I'll tell you what you want to hear: life in Europe is great. There are plenty of opportunities, jobs and lots of wonderful things. Everyone here is happy and making a lot of money. I am sorry if that was of no help. I am a little gloomy today.

This whole thing I think is drawing attention from more important things like fighting poverty or ending diseases that is more of threat to humanity now, than something that is predicted to happen hundreds of yrs after we're gone. If the politicians are taking their time to write about global warming in the Evening Standard, then you bet it's a lie. The most interesting bit of Ed Miliband's article: " The unprecedented nature of the challenge across the world may seem daunting. It will require difficult choices, including here at home as we transform our energy systems, our housing stock and our transport system. Difficult it may be but just we should be candid about the challenges, so we must not forget the potential benefits" Benefits indeed. He must be very inspired by his fellow politician-turned-green-activist Al Gore who's become a multi-millionaire after taking the issue of global warming to his heart. Saw some students dressed as ice bears in the underground, asking if people have seen habitance. How stup1d can you get, I mean really?

Mr. Somalia, the gypsy fortune teller was right about a number of things That or then today's policy makers were just inspired by him.

Chocolate & Honey, have you heard a song called 'Didi' by Milk & Honey? That's another cheesy song to add to your iPod playlist. No need to thank me.

Cynical Lady is missing the point. I would say Japanese ladies are naturally beautiful; as in they have good bone structure, good skin etc. Of course some of them have acne and look a little odd. But in general they are naturally (without make-up) pretty. Will they look even better with make-up? Of course. Do they need to look even prettier? That's where personal choice comes into question. Similarly Somalis are naturally beautiful. Most of them even have nice feminine bodies (before they ruin them by not excercising and eating tons of hilib and xalwo). But the bottom line is, generally speaking they are naturally beautiful. Again, are there some who are not so beautiful? You bet. At the other side of the spectrum, there are some ethinicities in which the majority are generally not naturally very beautiful. There are a few who are real stunners but the vast majority are 'ok' at best. For example Bengali women in general are not very beautiful, although they do have some beautiful women. Everyone can say beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but lets not go into that, otherwise it will lead us to an epistemological guagmire where no one can rank Eva Longoria higher than Susan Boyle.

lol, fine I will cut down on the fun of talking to myself. I just wanted some ACTION in this thread, since it was sinking into obscurity. Also I am in the mood of posting a lot.

The songs I would be too embarrassed to be caught with are by Mozart and Beethoven. I don't want people to get the impression my taste in classic musical is derived from primary school music books. But I can't help it! I like Moonlight Sonata, Fur Elise and Lacrimosa from Requirum! I also have Aqua's Barbie Girl, and that's quite embarrassing, too.

Haha that is a compliment and an insult both at the same time. General Duke, it is evident you have been part of many a coup. The skills with which you have hijacked this thread demonstrate it. But if you have the time, do comment on the actual topic

Ngonge, OK I get it, so it's everything that goes over £37,400 will be taxed at 40% and not the whole income. Cheerio! Maximus, there is no 'the economy' there's only 'your economy'. Chuck Norris doesn't care about the recession, and neither does 5!
