  1. Really? You'd rather be obese than anorexic? One can always put lots of clothes on to seem a little bigger, but to always have the fire department to knock down your house when you'd want to get a bit of fresh air? You'd prefer THAT? And yes, I do realise this is going obesely off topic
  2. So from our delightful little exchange of words we conclude that bleeding gums and obesity = good in Somali tradition
  3. Yeah Somalis also think bleeding gum is a sign of effective brushing! Funny creatures:)
  4. So now we know Khayr is fat. Hurray!
  5. It has been a very good year alhandulillaah! I've loved it so far. All praise to God. Next year is going to be phenomenal inshaAllah. Looking super excited to that & 2011 & 2012 inshaAllah. May we all have good health and happiness(iman) for all our years, aamiin.
  6. Naden, it was both a pleasure and enlightening reading your response.
  7. I once went to the shop, bought something. When I was leaving I counted my money and noticed I had an extra 15, I thought to myself this can't be right since I gave her a tenner. I realized she must've thought I gave her 20. I decided to keep the money, but all the way home I was haunted. So eventually I had to turn back and give her the extra money back. Sorry. I couldn't make this interesting or relevant enough. Anyway the lesson here is your conscience is a mafia and it won't let you be till you give it what it wants.

    Miss Somalia

Miss Arabia? The other girls look like drag queens. Arabs apply make-up waaaaaaaay too much. Oh yeah, she's stunning.
  9. Haha the first one was pretty hilarious. Poor lady. In the first a Jew and an Arab find something in common without saying a word. The second one shows how different things can happen in just 10 minutes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ppAn0LNU_V8

    Are Somalis dumb?

Clearly qwerty's twisted twin is under the impression that having a self-hating, negative personality will somehow help.

    Quitting Music

Everybody out. I didn't ask for recommendations. I want this thread to act as a support group for my quest to live a musicless life. Anyway, islamically speaking it'd be good for me to give up music. It'd be better for my ears, and also perhaps internally too. A lot of the music today is filled with subliminal messages, and music does affects the subconcious mind. Kool Kat, it's been a long, long time coming but I know a change gonna come. Oh yes I will quit music. With the help of God. Naden, MJB doing acting? Consider the film already critically panned and sinking into obscurity. Che, no thanks. I'd like to hear from people who feel the same as me. There has to be at least one person here on SOL who has made a conscious desicion not to listen to music.

    Quitting Music

"Music determines my mood and emotions" Surely that's a good reason to quit, no? I regularly have periods of time when I don't listen to any music at all. They can last anywhere from 1 month to 4 months. So clearly, it's not particularly unrealistic for me. I have 20 songs on my phone and a little over 100 on my iPod. I've personally downloaded about 30 of the songs on my iPod. Most of the ones I've downloaded are (excluding the occasional Barbie girl and Miley Cyrus )piano concertos and pretty useless to listen to in the tube, as the loud tracks make it impossible to hear anything.

No. Yes. Maybe. What was the question?

    Quitting Music

I've quite recently discovered that I don't like music. I listen to it because of peer pressure. "Hey have you heard that new song by whatshisname? It's great, you'll love it, I'll send you a link/via bluetooth." I have 2 knowledgable, hard-core music lover friends, who the Times music critic would probably proclaim to have exquisite and diverse taste in music. I really just_don't_like_music. I listen to any song a few times and very, very quickly grow tired of it. If it weren't for friends and various relatives, I'd probably not listen to music at all. I kind of wish there was a more spiritually driven reason for this decision, you know, perhaps I would've gotten some much needed ajr! In any case, are there other closet music haters, or ones who have given it up for Islamic reasons? Welcome me in your small exclusive club.
  15. There is no other music I hate more than this type of music. Well, maybe death metal.

He is said to have spent months learning about Islam at a local mosque before agreeing to conduct his life according to its teachings, including praying five times a day and abstaining from alcohol The civil ceremony at St Andrews Castle was followed by a black-tie reception with alcohol and dancing. To each his own way I guess. Although I agree with you, the article doesn't say whether he was actually present at the after-party. Because his wife wasn't there and the source didn't specifically mention Dr Osborne, it can be deducted that he most likely was not there. In addition, the bride's sister being the sole representative of her family, it's quite obvious it was aimed at the English side of the family. And the bar could have come with the venue. Still, wrong. But not as wrong as him dancing there and drinking with the guests, which is how the paper is trying to pass it off.

    Egyptian Photos

Lol @ 25h, these guys are either marketing wizards ("We're open not 24 but 25 HOURS a day!") or then seriously ill-informed . I'd love to see them create tattoos for unsuspecting tourists! '... subject yourself to beating"

This is what I don't get. To unite the people; mutual enemy and the works.

So droughts will no longer be natural, like in the past, but rather, 'man-made'? Adeer, no 5 you are being a sceptic for the fun of it, the world is getting polluted by our actions and we do need to change our ways. Or else Gaia will suffer?

    Nigerian scams

I was reading somewhere that these scams cost a lot of money for the society every year. I'm just wondering how much more these individuals who fall for these things, cost the society.
  21. You pretentious lot! I'll be the first to admit: I have never actually watched Godfather II from star to finish. It's too goddamn boring! Now burn me at the stake.

Right now you sound like Rush Limbough and the crazy gang. I've never listened to Rush Limbaugh, but I like to be in the company of people whose names distantly remind me of certain Italian luxury sports car manufacturer. While I don’t buy into politicians sermons the proof for Global warming and the negative human impact on our atmosphere is clear. And you based this on exactly what? Climate change scientists who get funding from the governments run by these politicians? As for 5. if only your name was an 8, then a brother would take notice. [/QB] 8 is a lot more special sounding than 5, I agree.

Yes, we did not evolve from apes and turn into men. In that aspect, you're right and it has been clearly delineated by our Holy Book. But at the same, we are much different, physically, from Nabi Adam and our early forefathers; due to the evolution that was/is caused by our adaptation to our different habitats around the world. Due to evolution or devolution? I heard they were bigger. Now, back to your topic. I gotta a question for ya, 2+2=5: Hype or no hype-- what say you about pursuing alternative energy sources, without using this global warming scare ? Yeah sure, why not. Just make me a major shareholder of the mother company. I remember my school teacher teaching us about the ozone layer and how it was getting thinner and thinner. Whatever happened to that, by the way?
