What is usually discussed in women section tends to be a general discussion, nothing too specific for women, actually its good that men contribute it gives a balance. I am sure after being in the "manly" section aka "Politic" section, they can come here to chill and bring out their femine side! which is always welcomed

I am assuming, being educated, exposed to different cultures and their views on love, marriage has definetly had an impact on our expectations of our future partners. The question is what would be sufficient enough to facilitate our happily ever after? Perhaps its possible to be happy with a husband who is less educated, less wordly and who earns less, works less and expects less[after all who is to say that any of those factors make me better than him]. Marriage is not like playing with Lego:you cant simply pick up two pieces and make them fit.Perhaps its better to have simple expactations and be happy than have unreachable ones.

Red Sea, basically your saying she deserved it because she was drunk and had made a choice being in a vulnerable situation...But what you forget walaal its not for us nor you to judge the reasoning behind her actions prior to the rape. The guy committed a crime,so he deserved what he gets, she on the other hand am sure had learned a valueable lesson..all in all,Allah knows best! STOP JUDGING YAKHII.. As for those whom just stood there watching, they are sicker then the rapist, subhanallah! -

I believe this congress was just a holiday break for elders from faraway regions," said Haji Adan Mohamed, a USC elder. AFP Off topic, but this meeting reminded me of our Somali community meetings, sitting in these meetings are the most frustrating time I had to endure in my life.During these meetings everyone gets along, serious matters are never solved nor discussed, its like time for mahmaah and dacayaad...,then as you walk out of these meetings, feeling depressed and suicidal, you see the elders innee laba laba ama sedex sedex eyagoo melaaha tag tagaan .....The time to gossip, point fingers, blame and spread more venom in the community. So am staying skeptic about these reconciliation meetings, because the cancer has spread deeper into our existance...or should I stay optimistic, hoping that one day,one day we get our acts straight and I can finally be able to live in peace in my homeland!

Originally posted by Muj: Red Sea: Firstly they were both drunk. So when both are juiced up there is no really blaming anyone because the girl sort of got herself into this mess. She should've known when she came all the way from MPLS to St.Paul, gets drunk with this man, isolates herself in apartment. She should've known that this guy would eventually do something to her. I don't know I can't think of many other things that a man who is drunk and on the peek of qooq could do. She refused...big mistake. PS. I am not saying the guy was good, but hey the girl aint no angel either. Red Sea,hold on!, am sure your familiar with the word NO,which means NO..and that is exactly what this girl said,it doesnt matter if she was drunk, wearing a bikini, she clearly said NO! Sorry to say Red Sea your response was pathetic to say the least, there is never an excuse to rape. -

Originally posted by HornAfrique: The last half of the thread seems to have turned into the wailing wall of that ill-founded and vanquished SSDF's remnants . Intriguing how some of the remnants such as Duke, Xiinfaniin, etc had to come in multiple times only to reiterate (I would appropriately call it regurgitate ) their already written opinion. It seems to be past the point of redundancy. Pray what leads them to feel the need to continuing making their mark throughout the discussion? quote: Originally posted by Jimcaale: Gun wadoow Siyaad Aabihii Gardarada Garacayagoo Hanti wadaagu waa Habkaa barwaaqa naga Hor joogsadoo Aawaye ciyaalka kacaanka? Hear,Hear Che! There can only be a future, when we truly examine what went wrong from the word go, I mean after independece and the union of Somalia.By understanding the past, its history, then only can we move forward.Moving forward would need us to examine how and what sort of governing body would work in Somalia, there is no need to deny that we are and had always been a society that based its political and social affairs on clan system. Some will say, arent we supposed to catch up with the rest of the world and creat a democratic nation.Oh yeah that would be ideal, but not realistic solution, its tribal affiliation that is holding us back from being a part of the wider world. So back to under the tree sort of governing and let the old men of yester year determine our future,by heck the intellectuals, those whom who would have lead ppl from the darkness into the light with knowledge seem to be unable to do so,busy argueing for "their" war lords. OR Its about time you "MEN" stand aside, and let us women lead you...upto now you lot have been disappointing to say the least! OR If there is a cure for hypocritism, selfishness, carelessness, arrongancy,*********,ignorance etc etc...only then we shall move forward.. [thats a joke now, before you lot lynch me] Khalaf, will come back to this in a serious note next time. Insha'allah!

Lets leave the Old man to rest in peace, only Allah is the judge of him and his actions. But there is no excuse for Somalia and Somalis to continue existing in mayhem!..we do claim to be Muslims dont we? so why is it that we habour so much hate, animosity within us?.. When those in the know how,act and behave as those in the dark, what chances is there for a peaceful Somalia..How the likes of Ali Mahdi became,a spokes person for peace, subhanallah! This is were it gets disapointing, when those whom unleashed fear, chaos are spokes persons for peace and unity?? God help Somalis! How gulliable, predictable we can be!

Was Siad Barre an exceptional leader? Nah! he was a mere product of the aftermath of the post colonial African dilemmas. Indeed Somalia had great hopes in its initial success as a nation, but like majority of other African countries during the era of post colonialism found it self losing its powerful alliance of the elite and the masses that brought freedom , as a new elite became self serving allied to metropolitan interests of former colonial powers. Politics of exclusion became the order of the day as the elite to capture and retain power exploited regional and tribal differences, so things like one party, dictatorship, life presidency and military coups became the order of the day.. There were two external reasons that also contributed greatly to the collapse of the African/Somali nationalism, One was the cold war between the west led by the USA in NATO and the East led by USSR and the WARSAW pact countries…As we know Africa yet again lost its own self determination as countries and governments became allies of either powers not because of what they did or did not do for their people but for allegiance to extra African powers. We know our late president tried to play in both camps, which lead to the nation being in a limbo after the war, desparate for allies and material assistance, and without clear direction and coherent ideology, the nightmare began. So do we blame him, some say yes ,some said it was the circumstances that lead to the current situations. I say, YES he was to blame, he had a vision “socialism” which he himself wasn’t clear on. But to give him his due he at some point was able to tame the embedded tribalism in our society, and we enjoyed some years of Somali nationalism, but again due to desperate measures to sustain power, he tripped[ as kids now days would say],which only lead to the downfall of once a promising nation. He was a man that gained power by force, sustained it by force, arrogant [which seems to be the trait of many Somalis] and by all means a confused socialist. Of the topic, this comes to mind,my own sentimental memories of those days gone by, I truly miss those exciting days in October,as kids we were dressed in our best outfits to attend parties at the Somali Embassy, were I remember standing by the lawn watching the celebrations in Mogadishu as they were projected on the wall….Aaah, that song is still in my head..am sure it went like this “Gulwadoo Siad, abihii garashadaa ,gebigaa yagoo..something something ….
