  16. Anyone watched this programme? Flying: Confessions of a Free Woman... ...Storyville 1/2. Filmed over five years, with stories from 17 countries across four continents, this programme talks to women about their lives and looks at what it means to be a free woman today. Made by Jennifer Fox whose life was turned around when her best friend is diagnosed with a brain tumour, Jennifer decides to take her confusion and her camera out on the road to talk to women about their lives. It was aired on channel 4,tonight was the last episode..It was a good watch, reminded me of a book I read few years ago of one Nancy Friday about Mothers and daughters..How we assume we are different yet,so similar only born in different era's but the ropes of tradition, culture are still tightly tied around us even in our modern day lives! I am sure you can find the episodes in Youtube or BBC iplay. http://www.flyingconfessions.com/press/BlogHer.pdf

  22. Nature? I mean we are different, biological make up is different.Had you observed little girls play? automatically they become these little mothers, nurturing and caring for their dolls and the little men, drive their cars carefree knocking anything standing,or kicking a ball or as for my 4yr old nephew he is already eyeing up the girls..What am saying is we are different, and perhaps our roles in Societies are also different. [am a beaten woman, dont pay attention to me,where do I hand back the feminist card?]..
  23. LOL@Ngonge, I though I would help make it clear for him. Anyway my understanding of this is, as a society we were very sucessful for generations to stay homogeneous but as circumstances and enviroment we had found ourselves has changed there is bound to be some changes to the homogeneous-ness make up of our society..The influence of the communities we live in,interact with surely can influence our choices in marriage and way of life. But,I know that for others it has been due to lack of finding quality men or women, some it was a reaction after being hurt or played by a Somali be it a woman or a man. You say,its different for a man to marry a non Somali but if a non Somali woman is raising those Somali children, will they really be SOMALI? am out!
  24. CL,I would say not yet!,We are still underpaid, overworked..I mean the woman is expected to earn her bread, give birth, raise kids, change the tires on the car,oh stay slim[a sex godddess]clean, cook, garderner, sportwoman etc etc.. Men,overpaid lazy so and so's..
  25. Nuune, afsomaliga is heavy duty wallahi its like reading latin.. I am getting Che's,koleybaa waxnaa imaa damoo, lakin yours is just a class of its own.
