  1. Shyhem you wrote: "I'm not a woman but i couldn't help notice how the few philosophy lessons they taught u in college is having a profound effect in u'r life." well, my friend my questions have nothing to do with philosophy! and don't be too assertive here I am not a novice of college philosophy!!!!!!! but a human being seeking answers. By the way, you have used the classical answers given by people who see a wall in what is termedas philosophy and religion- this was not the intention of my article. Unfortunately sxb this is a silencing strategy (thought controlling using religious dogma) that does not take into account the capacity of the indvidual to give a straight forward answer to a question. p.s please answer the questions without religious dogma
  2. I have read the article and found nothing new in its substance to manifest a discussion. He does not use arguments as you implied but rather a vague description of historical events! The contents of the article eminate from the political discourse of many leaders from the so called somaliland- and thus nothing revolutionary in it. The only difference and which perhaps is the rational for your argument is the title of the man who has written it. and that does not signify much to an intellecual discussion but rather to rehtorics. Allow me to make a disclaimer here too. my analysis does not depart from regionalism or tribalism. Of course as a somali I applaud the progression of somaliland. They have indeed succeeded in establishing some kind of law and order. and have held elections. But what I can't see is the notion of relating independence to progression. There are several countries in the world that are not politically independent but have achieved economic growth, social justices which are the basis of a state. To have a healthy debate, scholarly or otherwise I think we have to move on from propagandism, sepratism etc to one of a fair analysis based on facts which unfortunately eludes many students of somali history. To sum up my intepretation of the article...it follows a pattern common to many somalis i.e. when a white man writes something about them it is the ultimate truth!
  3. Ina libaax sankataabtey LOL .sxb magac cajiib ah ayaad wadataa! you know the opposite of libaax sanka tabtay (brave) is libaax sanka-ka toogtay (coward. Waxaa somaliya jiri jirey nin la yiraahdo ina libaax sanka taabtey! anyway taasi waa kaftan: back to somalia electing a president. Somalis are not electing a president but sanctioning the installation of a warlord as a president. It seems that killing many innocent lives could entitle you to become a president! I have seen the name of this guy and many others who are said to be "contesting" the office of the senior warlord. He is I assume a national of MN who came from somalia in 1992. There appears to be scamble for Hasan geni's words "madaxweyne mar i dheha". only this time it could read "Madaxweynu isu sharaxay mar i dhaha!" Ilaahow maad dhul gariir ku ridid dadkaasi burcada oo doofaareey iskugu yimid! The blood suckers want the suffering of the somali people to continue! This dude would join an exclusive club . the murderers club which includes: Xusen Ceydiid (senior warlord) wanted for the suffering of the people of xamar, bay and kismanyo. Cabdullahi yusuf (killed more somalis than any other living warlord). He personifies a person who loves money, murder etc. Gebiyow (the cannibal). His corporate idea is cannibalism. he not only kills innocent somalis but loves the act of standing on their carcasses and boasting about it! The ones who are not contesting but are said to be fore-runners . Suudi yalaxow who uses shoe size metophors to describe human beings...tests the war worthiness of his army by firing on innocent people. His adversaries Fiish, etc . Shaati gaduud (showed that he was as vicious brutal than any other warlord! Morgan (Lord have mercy! one of those who belong at a trial in arusha). his killing spray begun before the civil war. His respect for human beings is the same as having a scotch whiskey! These and other warlords deserve to be caged in a zoo before they go to hell because that is their destination!
  4. Salaama, First of all my appology for intruding here because as the name says, this is, strictly a female post area. But I have this burning question which I would like you to answer. I have during my lifespan met many somali women (educated, illitrate, divorcees, widows, spinsters etc) and in conversing with many of them, I have come to the conclusion that marriage is: 1: A means for many of them to better their lives. This is quite understandable. the economic benefits of marrying at least in the "good" old days were enormous. 2: Marriage is a goal: This is specially true for women who have studied. I have met several sophisticated sisters with brains whose main goal in life is not making a career but to marry! The former hypothesis is quite understandable, despite being old fashioned while the latter presents an interesting theme: It seems to me at least as a simple man that this is obviously due to peer pressure where marriage is seen as the ultimate goal for a woman. My question is: Do you think marriage should be a goal? Do you think marriage is the pan ultimate thing for a woman to do? do you feel pressured by society into marrying? could you envisage life as an unmarried independent career woman? Thanks in advance
  5. Palltalk "One of the obviouse things about our culture is we always agree to disagree" Is this really the case? I agree with OG that we disagree to disagree!

    Harmony ?

POSITIVE, welcome . I have been in these forums for a few days myself, having fled somalinet where the adminstrators don't do their work properly. although most of the discussions in these forums may not be very sophisticated, you will find a peace of mind- there is no filth here, and the adminstrators appear to do their work well! 7. wHAT IS IT THAT MAKES YOU STUPID/INTELLECTUAL? STUDIES, EXPERIENCE? AND WHO DECIDES IF YOU ARE AN INTELLECTUAL OR STUPID?
  8. Bantus are one of the major races that dominate the east/central part of africa. They include the kikuyus, embus, wakambas of kenya and a few tribes in tanzania and zaire. The other major east african "races" are nilotes (river nile), the hamites (this includes the somalis) and nilohamites (intermarriage between the nilotes and hamities (the massais).
  9. The greatest somali in my eyes is my mother who has managed to give birth to this dude and 7 other kids...and the other somali mothers! If you are talking about those that society thinks were great my list is: Aaw geedi shambow, Bucur bacayr Cigaal shidaad, Nasiib buundo, Sheikh Yusuf al-koweynayn, Sheikh Aweys, Sayid maxamed cabdulle xasan xaawo taako, 13 syl member and finally My religious ancestors
  10. thank you somalis! I guess most of us in agreement that there is a huge potential (both economic and emotional reward). How much are you people willing to invest? Karisma we could be partners sis! You could do your part in recruiting donkeygirls! I have a name for the donkey farm (donkeyville).
  11. My pick up lines: How large is your purse sister? Is your family rich? Actually you are too thin for my taste but hopefully I could encourage you to put a few more stones! You must be ugly on the oustide but I am sure beutiful in the inside!
  12. Salaama, Here is a question for the "philosophers". The term intellectual has become a catchphrase in many circles these days. I would like to know what comes to your mind when you see these term? how do you become an intellectual? are so called intellectuals more talented than the non-intellectuals? what is the dividing line? talent, creativity, brains etc? Education? Have you ever seen one? Thanks in advance
  13. I wonder what muslim scholars would say on this one: Let me speak for them: ILAAHEEY AYAA OG! God decides and nature and nurturing dance to HIs beats!
  14. It's a fabricated claims that somalis were the oppressors of bantu...no one is going to digest that misinformation...however, the bantus were the working class citizens and craftsmen(Unlike the Hispanics in the United States) and they(Bantus) had every opportunity to work, live better lives, and educate their children. Now let's stop the blaming game and reconciliate each other... Unity [/QB] PrettyB, what is a fabricated claim and misinformation is the fact that we somalis don't want to talk about our evilness, discrimination and prejudices! Only if we admit our shortcomings as a society can we embark on a road of reconciliation! I remember being in somalia in the late eighties and witnessing the multreatment of other somalis simply because they looked or talked differently than the majority. I don't like the name bantu to describe somalis, but surely these people have gone through hell!
  15. Thats Harsh Walaalo. That is not harsh walaal! It is the reality facing somali families. We have some social problems in the somali community. Back home in africa the father had a responsibility to feed and cloth his family. In the west the tables have been turned. many families live on social welfare which together with the many other benefits make its way to the purse of the wife- leveraging her with economic power. The man on the other hand is declared redudant by the process. I used the castration and balls metaphors in that sense. In addition, we have drug abuse among the somali males- qaad. The somali woman has also some abuse (greed).
  16. salaama: "And most importantly, what do you think is the cause of this?" The cause? where is the somali nation? mental problems caused by war trauma, qaad consumption, disgruntled households with a mentally castrated man coupled with a female who thinks she has acquired balls! That is the cause!
  17. Don't be so sure! How about an hair cut?
  18. are you sure plastic surgery is xaraam?
  19. My dear somali people, The best animal in africa is arguably the donkey. In africa the donkey is a mode of transport, one that quinches the thirst of many millions. The african landscape would lose its dynamism without the presence of the donkey. Yet again, somalis despice this innocent animal by mocking each other "dameer" dameeryahow etc. Having lived in the west for many years, and consumed lots of Hamburgers from Naag-karoon restaurant (macdonald's Burger King etc) I have come to the conclusion that there is a great potential in creating a donkey farm in africa. You see folks most of the hamburgers we consume in Naag-ka roon restaunrants are made from horse meat and I don't see why we can't use donkey meat. I am not a religious scholar, but having asked many learned somali muslim scholars, there appears to be no consensus whether donkey produce is xaram or xalal. Assuming that it is xaram, we could still export the produce to the asean countries. (there is a large market there for anything that has flesh) There are both emotional and economic rewards in creating a donkey farm . Firstly, a donkey farm would be a tribute to this fine animal which has provided millions of people with transport, water and food. Secondly, the economic benefits to the region is immense: The meat could be used as export or corned donkey beef, the manure could be enriched with substance so that it could be used for farming, and the cheese could be exported! I therefore ask you countrymen to help me achieve this dream. contributions and comments welcome!
  20. I want to create a donkeyfarm in africa and export donkey produce (manure, meat and cheese) to the west.
  21. Ex dane, I think you have answered most of the the questions, you posed! I think the somalis or muslims in general have the same view on this issue as the rest of the world. To be honest, your questions and the replies you got do not reveal anything new. Yeah, yeah divorce is bad, it is an act of last resort and children suffer! isn't that a well known fact? I think a better question for you to ask in writing your paper is "what are the mechanisms that lead to the higher rate (assuming that it is high) of divorces among the somalis in the diaspora?" By asking the above question, you would be able to come up with interesting findings! Explore the issue of somali marriages, the marriage dynamisms from the economic, cultural and social aspects of somalis-and focus not on the outcomes but the mechanisms! Mahadsanid Entrepreneur
  22. Muna, with the onset of the digital technology, how about the fingers that write unspoken words of sins? The mind that thought of the unspoken words and passed on to the fingers to write? In this digital word the tongue as a major sinner has given way to the fingers and the brain. at least that is how I am. I sin alot using my brain and fingers than using my tongue. Good article anyway and thanks! I think I need to repent!
