  1. Mizz Unique...yes Calasey thanks...It is a wonderful name...I remember a woman called calasey back in somalia who was my landlady (How did I forget her?) Sue: I think somali names are better than arabic names. It differentiate somalis from the 0ne billion muslims. I don't mind having an arabic first name but a somali surname would definately be a welcome thing. If only you knew the meaning of some name, you wouldn't have said they were "nasty"! May I call you Cambaro (amber)? or Qaali (dear)? instead of the wacko nickname you have?
  2. Ayoub-Sheikh sxb, I have to ask for permission from the adminstrators (double posting has been banned) to change my name to: Qowdhan-Fiidow-Jimcaale-waraabe because that combination describes me as a person>
  3. Og-girl sister, feel free to comment on the names. I am sure the adminstrators are wise enough to differentiate between comments on somali names and profanities.
  4. OG-Girl, I guess the new rules do not apply to discussing somali names , do they? am I in trouble?
  5. Ina Libaax sankataabtey sxb, the problem is the thread called "politics" which is very popular in somali websites. Discussing political issues by somalis is laded with tribalism and regionalism- the main causes of our cancer. We are not mature enough to discuss politics without having the binoculars of tribalism on our eyes.

  8. Miskiin Macruuf akhyaar, widaayow Raaxo and xorriyo are somali names.....but you are right some names sound arabic Najmah: saxarle and the rest of the names you mentioned are in the list above.
  9. Jamaal: You are right I forgot Ugbaad..but Asli is an arabic name...I think I forgot Isniino and axado too Matkey: Shumeey , is indeed a good name...just like the riwaayadii shan ito tobankii shumeey Shuun (xaaji xeyraan) is another good name in that category! Stockholm: Jo, da! Denna gubbe speaks some few weird languages!
  10. A request to the administrators: Could you please move this thread to the general section, so that our younger brothers and sisters (from NFD) could access it? Most of them are not interested in the politics section! and I am sure it would help them understand the situation. Thank you
  11. Stockholm hej du! Leyla,Riyaan,Nadira,Najma,Khamar are not somali names but arabic names. Ilhaam, so is habibo and Ilhaam
  12. Og girl and stpaul..... these are best names a somali woman could get in the old days, before we became obsessed with arabic names or city names like Barliin, Istanbul etc..or starling Malaika I am glad that your name has appeared on the list:) You hit the jackpot Run-away virgin...Fiido or Fiidaay =born during the evening. Fartuun is not a somali name. It comes from the Italian word Fartuno=luck bono fartuno signorina
  13. salaama, I have not had the time to read all the responses to this issue. However, I have a few points to make. The so called "marriage to converts" has lately become a popular way for different races(!) to win the hearts of our somali women. I have seen cases where the so called convert actually behaves in the same manner after he has secured the blessing of the parents, family and the somali community. It is a trap at its worst. I have witnessed nearly 20 convert-somali marriages. Almost all of them appears to me (and I am just making a human assumption here) that the aim was only to secure the heart of the somali woman. On the contrary marriage between somali men and other women seems to work!

  15. salaamu calaykum, Nino I wish you all the best of luck! In the country taht I live in, there are more somalis with PHD:s than the other immigrant community. In one small town for instance (pop 90 000), there are 9 somalis who have PHD:s and nearly 26 graduate students...not to mention the under graduates. But they don't make front news..... The westernmedia sells to western consumers- and inorder to sell a story you need some kind of exotic setting- camel herding in african bushes, gender:woman etc
  16. On a second thought, I have decided to enforce personal censorship. When shall we be able to discuss issues without being under the influence of the hiding hand of tribalism?
  17. Gediid.... Soon we shall have 10 million presidents! cabdalla deerow was involved in a fight at Doofareey too!LOOOOOOOOL. Like Mowliid macaane did! This is something for Hassan geni "madaxweyne mar i dhaha". Have you heard of the guy who went to xamar and declared himself as the bonfide president, won an election and begun issuing visas, ministerial posts and naming ambassadors?
  18. I agree 100% but do we have alternatives? other sources of income. I have been studying at a higher level of education for the past 11 years and accumulated a loan of approximately 60 000 US dollars, which I have started to repay (8 % of my gross salary). In some countries in northern europe, you are exempted from loan repayment of you die, reach the age of 65, disabled or become seriously ill. In some cases, somalis have been granted debt relief if they go back to somalia.
  19. Baashi bro, it is a difficult thing specially when somalis see things through the binoculars of qabiilism. I wanted to introduce a thread on a mock indictment of some somali warlords held at havard in boston..but on a second thought I refrained. You are right kenya and ethiopia wants us to kill each other..thus no help. Marka xaalada fudud ma aha sxb. We need somalis who are brave enough to report their kins...and during my short stopover in these forums that is just a dream. smart enough not to shield crimes against somalis.
  20. Samurai warrior since you posted this thread, I have had the opportunity to read the two drafts. I have read the old constitution from 1960, and the one which was drafted in Djibouti. I remember also someone lamenting in the late eighties about somalia having the best constitution on paper. and these two actually look promising on paper saaxib. Nonetheless our history has shown that we don't have any respect for laws that are written on paper or even divine laws of the almighty..hence my sceptism. Even though you or some others may differ, I still see warlords wanting to become a president. In my opinion the issue at hand is a recognition of the atrocities saaxib. They have already explored so called reconcialation. I think it is time somalis explore past mistakes and heal the wounds of many..because at the end of the day it is about trust- and very few people trust warlords. You may recall the djibouti conference , somalis everywhere were in exctance- hoping that we have finally made progress and the result is what we see today. Infact, if my memory serves me well things were better in terms of number of deaths before the djibouti conference. Insha allah my hope is that this conference would achieve everlasting peace but my brain says otherwise. Anyway back to your question of how we elect a parliament: I believe that we don't need a central parliament or ministers because as we know they would be based on tribalism- which has caused as much harm. Somalia is not suffering because of lack of parliament. I think what we need is a bottom up approach whereby every region elects its own leaders. and we need a strong president..... an idealist.... a man who is not a product of former governments. A bold suggestion: why don't we do like the Tchez and choose Nuradiin faarah, the somali novalist? Macaslaama

  22. Flying still...lol maya inadeer, waxaay hablaha somaliyeed arki waayeen waxaay arka naagaha cadaanka! Maalin waliba waxaa lai weydiyaa halkaan ka keenay jirka caatiga ah, lugaha baastada la moodo, caloosha (shanta bilood xaamilada ah) iyo shafka digaaga! Bal fiiri naagaheena somaliyeed waay arki la'ayihiin. waa alle mahadii.......soo ma aha?
  23. darwiish (anigu ku oran maayo "wiilka iga sareeyo" malaha waxbaad soo gumaaday saaxib!
  24. Darwiish you wrote; +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Habar Dheli weydey Aleelo ku waalatey this phrase comes to mind. I have indeed no problem whatsoever to be refuted on rational and evidential grounds, but what I can not stand is that people coming out with diatribe habitual mantra that reeks more that a rotten fish in sewer. This is what gets to me. Somali politics is complex and without the proper tools one swim in treacherous waters. I am with of the opinion that without the proper training we all should refrain from this complex subject-Somali politics. It is our lack of knowledge that some of us unashamedly purport ideas that have no basis. Reading various websites they base their newly acquired information- an information which is full of ribal shenanigans not to mention infected with evocative words. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Darawiish maahmaahooyinka sida xun loo tarjuuman karo ma haboono saaxib inaad la soo suuq tagtid! From your writing I detect that you are one of the novices of somali-reel politics that you purport to describe. To say the least you appear to have been fed the vernom of the snake that has caused us more harm. There is nothing complex about somali politics. As I understand, you are against looking back in the mirror to heal the flaws of somalia, then there would be no future. And surely you must accept differing views which does not neccessarily mean a bad thing. could you please explain what you mean by "diatribe habitual mantra". STOP USING SUCH PHRASES BECAUSE THEY COULD DESCRIBE YOU> I think anyone would see who is suffering from that.
