Xayat, Maasha allah! I am impressed! We need women like you! The so called age gap exists in every society. There are some old men and women who are better than young people in everything. After all, as the saying goes age is nothing but a number! Xayat: I like your proverb : nin ku dhali karo ayaa ku dhaqi karo!

Brother Kheyr. A good topic. I want to come back to this issue later on in the week because I have to rush. But I would agree with you. From my experience, the more I study the more sceptical I become of the words of Allah ( have to admit it). I think university education, in particular post graduate courses and onwards give you the ability to question things including religious arguments. I have found myself repenting every hour due to my thoughts. Insha allah waan ku soo noqonayaa mowduucaan.

Salaama, "Arranged marriage" is a western concept which is laden with negativity. I would term what you described above as a "consultative marriage" in which a parent consults his/child about matters of importance. Look at the positive side..all your dad wants is his daughter to have a better life. There is nothing wrong with these types of consultations or marriages for that matter. Despite western style propogandism , the reality is that consultative marriages outlasts marriages where the daughter/son did not consult their parents or vis-a vis. Infact, many of the nomads in these forums were concieved through marriages of consultations. My advice to you, young lady is heed the words of your dad, give the guy a chance to prove himself as the above sister said. he might not be that bad! He has satisfied your dad as to statue, intelligence and many other factors...so there is no reason why he wouldn't please you! One important question to my young somali sisters: What do you think is the motives of your parents when they pick a future groom for you?

Waggish Spouse!! Associated Press: Friday june 20, 2003 New Delhi:- A 9-year-old girl was married to a stray dog in a village in India's eastern state of Bengal as part of a ritual intended to ward off a bad omen, newspaper reported yesterday. The girl, Karnamoni Handsa, had to be married quickly to break an evil spell, according to the belief of her Santhal tribe in the remote villiage of Khanyan, the Hindustan Times said. Karnamoni's tooth had grown on her upper gum, which Santhals consider a bad omen. The girl's father, Baburam Handsa, a poor sharecropper, could not afford the expenses of marrying his daughter to a boy, so he saved money by making a street dog the groom on June 11, the paper reported. The Ceremony was attended by more than 100 guests.

OOPS I meant Pixie! By the way what does pyromaniac pixie mean?
-
Pyromaniac-sexy(wuxu magac adkaa!) May I call you " Suuban"? In my simple and humble opinion no name beats good old somali names. Yes, I despise arabic names despite having one myself...I have been to the local tax office in my town to change my arabic sounding name to somali- but NADA... We somalis are trendy when it comes to names. Look at the old muslim/arabic names such as Muslima, Halimo, Fadumo, Habibo etc..///they are endangoured! Nowadays, we have somali girls whose names are Hannah, najma,Nadiya which are names from the middle east (both jews and muslims use those three names-thus they are not islamic names)

I am begining to think Rudy and Raul are either GSU-agents or misinformed brothers/sisters who have fallen for the charm of the shameful Kenyan government that colonises my somali brethen. How would you describe a people that hate somalis for being somalis? How would describe people who murdered our brothers in Wagalla, raped our sisters in Garissa, Butchered our brothers in MalkaMari? How would you describe the people who constantly harrass somalis in eastleigh, burn the shops of somalis from Kisumu in the west to Tana in the east? How would you describe a government that committs attrocties against somalis? How would describe a government that treats "so called citizens" as second class? One word: Adoon (aka sankadhuudi, timo-korankor, timocambuuulo). NB: I dread using the term adoon to describe my fellow brothers and sisters from somalia..those are somalis not adoons! In addition, I think we share just geographical location with nigerians, and the other africans......so, I don't see why I should think we belong to the same ancestory.

Gediid LOL. yes saaxib afkii baa juuqda gabay. Hadda sidii Matkey uu sheego....ama afgooye aad ama af.............raac (this may cause a dignin) Anyway, aniga siyaasada waan ka baxay!

Ayoub Sheikh , Akhi, Ilaahey soo qulubtaada ma daalacanayo ? At the end of the day, on the day of judgement we shall be judged by our deeds and not by name, gender, age etc. There is one vital factor as to why we should embrace somali names- identity bro.Somali sounding names are on the verge of disappearing and being replaced by either western names or arabic names! And that is why I am objecting brother. Other societies are very proud of their names (in particular unique ones)which are part of their heritage and identity, but somalis love to imitate other cultures. Ayoub, I have an arabic sounding name..infact if I write down all the names of my family tree you may think I am from the middle east and not somalia...that is a pity..isn't it? The arabs have a muslim name and a territorially, clan based names right?

Salaama, Another letter that contains a 45 000 000 dollar reward. Could anyone help and tell me how to not receive this kind of junk? ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ALHAJI SHAIBU RIMI ATTN: funeral director I am ALHAJI SHAIBU RIMI, the Manager of the Consignment/Treasury Department of a Security and Finance Company in Lagos, Nigeria having offshore payment centers in the U.K, Spain, Ghana, South Africa and Holland. Recently, we discovered a dormant consignment with a substantial amount of money valued at Forty Five Million United States Dollars (US$45,000,000.00) that belongs to one of our numerous customers who died in a motor accident in November 1996. During the period of our investigation, we discovered that the deceased died along with his only son and wife, leaving no WILL and nobody behind to come for the claim as next of kin. The policy guidelines/law of our firm stipulates that if such consignment remains unclaimed for Six years, it will be forfeited to the firm's treasury as an unclaimed consignment/bill as a Nigerian, I cannot stand as the next of kin to a foreigner. It is upon this discovery that I as head of this department decided to contact you to collaborate with me to pull out this dormant consignment. I am going to give you 30% of the total fund if this proposal meets your interest. Urgently, reach me through the above stated e-mail to enable me give you the full details for this transaction and how it is going to work out. Also include your personal telephone and fax number for easy communication. What I want from you is to act as the deceased's next of kin. I have in my possession (alone) all necessary documents to successfully accomplish this business. However, it will require that you shall be physically present in any of our centers to pull out this fund for onward transmission into your bank account. The next of kin must be present in Lagos, Nigeria or nay of our offshore payment centers to sign out these funds, which take a maximum of three (3) working days to conclude further information will be given to you as soon as I receive your positive response via email. Anticipate your urgent reply. Regards, ALHAJI SHAIBU RIMI

Hijabified: Geedi..did I miss that name? Holly dameer! it is one of my favourite names (Traveller-qaxooti-nomad)! Matkey: bro , you have all the names except Sheekhalow! well done! ________________________________________ Shaarkey Akoko Bin Shaakir Gaduudow Cafiifi Shaash Karaama Jeylaani Muriida Aba Nuur Abati Canter Aliishow Ubeey Gariinle Eenow _________________________________________________ LOL this must have beeen MBC, Wagad, Jeenyo and muqdisho names not to mention horseed....But they are mostly nicknames: Enoow is on my list... I think sharkeey, Gaduudo(cadaaweor cadaw), Ubeey, Gariinle , shaash (ooh he was a famous football player..just like Roberto carlos)... But I would not pick Jeylani, muriidi, Canter, cafiifi and Bin shaakir because those are arabic names.

Og-Mote Bro/Sis the word "ugly" is a relative word..depends on what you mean by ugly...To be honest I find the arabic names and to a certain extent the so called muslim names "very ugly" but that is my judgement. Og-Girl, Sister I wish you knew what those somali names really mean! I would try to post what each name means1
-
Og, I am glad that you finally said what was on your mind....come on ..no one would target you for comments on a name. Anyway, There is a widespread assumption that having a muslim name would land you in heaven..but that is not true... so, honestly i don't understand why we should have arabic names....we could do like the bosnians, turks or even other arabs and try to use the somali version of arabic names... For instance Abdi becomes abdiyow, Ali =aliyoow, Maxamed=madeey etc. I hope you could be able to read somali, because behind those words is a great wisdom
