  1. there is more information on xenophobic denmark on the following link: http://www.project-reality.pair.com/
  2. Lucky, I agree with you. It was the act itself which many somalis obviously percieve as an act of rape. Rudy, "bodboode" : Indeed sxb we should send the article to any somali we know so that the danish government is bombarded with e-mails. I hope the site adminstrators would keep this thread posted for a long period to allow somalis who visit the site to read about it.
  3. Assalamu calaykum, I attach an interesting article written by A. Dualeh on the discrimination of somalis in Denmark. Apartheid anno 2003 Danish citizens of Somali origin, Somali immigrants and Somali refugees, statistically 15-20.000 individuals but in reality much less, in the kingdom of Denmark have, for the last 6 years, been subject to a rather peculiar form of discrimination. Danish politicians competing for popular votes found the ethnic Somalis to be an easy target for all kinds of horrendous and collective dehumanizing accusations. As disorganized as they are, the Somalis, and with no national diplomatic services nor international humanitarian organisations willing or interested in giving their case due serious consideration, they have become prey of summary ill treatments such as unwarranted police house searches, smear campaigns in the national press etc. Their situation is so bad that an ever increasing exodus of Somali refugees out of Denmark has been taking place for the last couple of Years. It is reasonable to say that, the Danish political agenda of gassing the Somalis out of Denmark has been successful. Some members of parliament had in 1996-97 even threatened, should the Somali refugees be unwilling to leave Denmark voluntarily, then we (the Danish authorities) will wrap a parachute on their (the Somali refugees) backs, load them forcefully on cargo planes and drop them over the african deserts!!. The means of dehumanising witch-hunt Of all the immoral and false accusations, circumcision of women has been and still is the most dehumanizing tool, it is in fact this totally baseless and insane false accusation, that our politicians have used preparing this new apartheid legislature. To justify this apartheid law, our politicians have used…(misused?) among others, a greedy Somali woman, Mrs. Samya Yusuf Ali, a notorious liar, who for the sake few Danish crowns in pocket money, air ticket and hotel accommodation at a conference in Addis-Ababa, has sold her soul, national pride and committed an act of defamation against all somalis. She was used as rubberstamp, giving the impression that she represents the Somali women in Denmark, by a so called inter-ministerial committee which fabricated a false report on the matter. In this and on several seminars, conferences and published newspaper articles, she consistently declared that more than 98% of all Somali girls of 4 - 14 years of age are this day today subject to genital mutilation performed or sanctioned by their Somali parents due to their primitive and barbaric culture and heritage!!!. As she kept being used to spread this politically and racially motivated false propaganda on Tv, radio and news papers, confirming time and again that she in fact knew of specific Somali girls who have been circumcised, and that this practice is taking place here in Denmark, and as the Danish law specifically requires that any positive knowledge by any civil servant of cases of circumcision, to notify the authorities, I requested her to share this knowledge with the responsible authorities. Mrs. Samya Yusuf Ali refused to do so, and at this point I had no other choice but to file a complaint with the criminal police for investigation of these false accusations. When summoned for interrogation by the criminal investigation division of the Danish police, she suddenly got a memory blackout! She declared that she knew no cases of genital mutilation and that she in fact had never seen any!. As the criminal investigators pointed out her previous statements on radio and tv, she explained that all her statements were based exclusively on RUMORS she had heard in Somalia more than 10 years ago!!! ( See the copy of the police report and her statement to the newspaper ). The fact that I have irrevocably proved that the inter-ministerial report was based on a falsum did not matter for our legislative assembly the “Folketinget” after all, the case had very little to do with right or wrong, it was a politically motivated agenda and it had the support of all major political parties including The Danish Social democratic Party!. The Fatamorgana 10 years of systematic and meticulous secret gynaecological examinations of all Somali girls at the primary school age in Denmark, by the national medical officers, published in march 2003 has documented ZERO (0) occurrence of women circumcision among all the examined, furthermore, not less than 27 somali girls aged between 3 and 14 years have been brutalized by so called physicians and social workers, forcefully and shamefully undressed and put them on top of a dining table in their private home, and in front of their father and mother, helplessly looking on unable to defend the dignity and honour of their child, spread their legs examined with their fingers perversely and mercilessly deep inside the innocent child’s most intimae parts, just moments later to retrieve their perverted fingers and exclaim: strange! Nothing is missing ! all parts are there … for now but, addressing the parents, remember do not try anything because we will keep watching You and Your children and in case you get wrong ideas, we will be back!. The ugliest of them all took place in the municipality of Aalborg on January 30th 2003, when a swine butcher turned social democratic local politician, now chairman of the municipality’s young-and children’s committee ordered a 6 year old Somali girl, forcefully be put on a table her parents helplessly looking on, be undressed while crying for help and get her most intimate genitals fondled by three intruding strangers, Mr. Ib Rasmussen’s gang of 4 from the Aalborg municipality, who forced themselves entry to the family’s apartment. Once the perverse rape of the child was complete and the gang was gone, the family packed whatever belongings they could pack and fled the country to seek refuge in another European country where state sanctioned paedophilia does not take place. They had no choice but to go in hiding because they couldn’t face the shame!!!. All of these and certainly many others which we do not know about, have with no single exception proven to be based on false accusations received, at times from anonymous informers. Am I wrong when I call this perverse and legalized paedophilia ?? or state sanctioned rape? I let it remain for the decent readers to judge and give their verdict. In spite of the fact that all accusations have been nothing less than malicious lies, our present parliament is just about to pass this new apartheid law. All denials by the government and the other parties behind this shameful law, that this law is not specifically intended for a specific group is just another lie! That is because among many other factors, the minister of justice, answering my question handed over in writing to the parliament, said: this law will enable all Danish institutions and educators of different classifications and individuals, to keep an open eye on all educational institutions where Somali children are tended, to take swift and proper action, whenever anyone feels anything suspicious. And what can rise suspicion? Travelling to the United Kingdom for holydays by a Somali family among others! That was what hit the above mentioned molested child and her family, word came out that the family had been in the United kingdom for a holiday last year and that they were planning to go there again for same!!! In other words, brutalizing and dishonouring a Somali child in Denmark, once this law is passed, will soon be legal according to Danish laws!. Why this inhumane law and why now? This apartheid law is due to be passed by a clear majority consisting of the parties forming the present Government, the Conservative party and the liberal party (Venstre) together with their protégé’ The neo………. Danish popular party of Mrs. Pia Kjærsgaard, the architect of the whole misery. The social Democrats or what remains of it, in its near panic search for popularity, has also embarked a doubtful and racially motivated anti immigrant political programme, in the hope of overtaking the notorious Mrs. Pia Kjærsgaards danske Folkeparti. Once by far the largest Danish political party, the party of the working class, The Danish Social democratic party, with deep rooted principles humanism and respect for the honour and dignity of the individual, is now reduced to a caricature of itself and of its glorious days by Mrs. Pia Kjærsgaard, unfortunately the leaders of this once glorious party still do not understand it as yet and are still dancing and will be dancing for the foreseeable future to her tune!!!. The Somalis, immigrants, refugees or else Cynically one could say that they do in fact deserve what they are getting! That is because when all comes to all, they themselves with the help of no one else from outside, have destroyed their nation! And 13 years after their meaningless and foolish civil war they are still killing and rampaging each other. And for what? They do not even know, apart from the fact that they all want to be a president! That, they do in fact all know, that is they all want be presidents!!! Look at the conference at Nairobi, Kenya, and look at the candidates running for president. The more blood stain on their hands the more it looks likely they will be elected. Brothers and sisters at Nairobi or elsewhere, I sincerely hope You will take time and read the above. I hope You all will take time and look at Yourselves every morning at the mirror, when dressing for that days palaver at the conference hall, and ask Yourselves these simple questions: What went wrong since my brothers and sisters are living under the above humiliation? Knowingly or not, did I play any part in the making of the destruction of my Somalia? If positive, do I really regret that I did what I did or what I, tacitly, accepted be done? Do I really want to be the next president of Somalia, or do I have any worthy candidate ? What did I do or what am I able/willing to do for my people to deserve their trust and acceptance ? Who is my people? My family?, my clan?, my tribe? Or the Somalis? Can I define? Many nations, including Denmark, came to the rescue and to help the Somalis initially, they accepted them to come into their countries as guest for a while, hoping things would be sorted out back home, so these “guests” would go home again, but then the guests overstayed and grew in numbers, things went sour, racism and hatred surfaced, racist anti immigration political parties flourished, and as a result we came to the point of page 1! The ill treatments of all kinds. But then we have a Somali roughly saying: Prolonged begging and prolonged illness make one undesirable!!!. Brothers and sisters, people tend usually to exclaim: god help us!, but God will not help us, unless we take the spoon on the other hand and take the road for a real and genuine change, not any change but a change to a better society built on respect for the individual, his/her dignity and property, and then make things change to the better for all, only then will it be fair and possible to ask for and expect Gods help. Nothing is impossible, so give a try!. A.F. Dualeh source gedonet.com
  4. Smith N western quote --------------------------------------------- Idealist as ever but that is how we got into this problem in the first place, if you believ things will improve without hard work then I think you will be disapointed. --------------------------------------------- Saaxib there is nothing wrong with being an idealist. What kind of hardwork are you talking about? Quote ----------------------------------------------- We need a system of government backed by instituations that represent the people nationaly and locally. ---------------------------------------------- we need a system of governance not a government. I think we somalis yearn alot for the establishment of a government- quote: ---------------------------------------------- Centralism has failed and those who back it do because they are the 1% who benefited from this, but we are tired of the 1% we are tired of the endless excuses that are made for Mogadishu leaders, its not that big a place, what 1 million population how many cities on earth have 1 million population? and they are not all like XAMAR. ---------------------------------------------- did I advocate for centralism? The sad truth saaxib is that mogadishu could be more peaceful than many world metropolis- while xamar has a a government it lacks system of governance : the burning question which has made me reply to this thread and which eludes many regionalists is: WHY THE OBSESSION WITH XAMAR*S PROBLEMS? If as many of us claim certain towns and regions are peaceful, why don't people they move forward? there could be only one rational answer saaxib; without xamar there is no somalia- this could be a simple analysis but...have you a better reason? Quote ---------------------------------------------- Bari_Nomad I know is not against Mogadishu and like myslef wants peace to return to that once centre of Somalia. --------------------------------------------- I did not say Bari-geeljire is against xamar: I would also love to go to mogadishu- but let us not kid ourselves it would take some time to heal the wounds of hatred. What i suggest to you and my geeljire brother is we need to put more emphasis on the geeljire way of life instead of discussing urban problems
  5. CM: Thanks for posting the article of the century! Could you please shed some light on the verse in the quran that many somali clergymen and laymen use to validate the issue of tribalism? I ask for forgivness from Allah if I misquote HIM but it goes something like this: "..... I made you into nations and tribes.... so that you would know each other....." What does "tribe" in the verse mean? the "somali" tribe or reer qurac, reer qansac which we somalis made up? Thanks
  6. BariNomad bro, I am not suffering from ism- except possibly somalism. internally somalis have divisions based on tribalism or religionalism- but to the outside world we are somalis. you are right you don't need to be born in a city to express your unconditional love for it. My analysis as I stated earlier has nothing to regionalism (I don't belong to any region of somalia-) nor any tribe (I have denouced tribalism - and don't believe in the crap). One thing that I have observed is that somalis who don't relate to mogadishu have the tendency to condemn it- turning discussions into propagandism- and that is not a fair analysis. You ask if I was anti-federalist. I am not for or against anything- all I want to see is somalis living in peace! I don't care whether they have 23 states, three or none.
  7. Smith and Western: I couldn't have put it better! Ishaad ka tuurtay saaxib. Bari-Nomad: walee waad iga qosolsiisay saaxib. There is no reason whatsover for me to suffer from Mogadisho-ism. I was neither born there ,nor was I brought up there . My views are based solely on observations that Xamar gets a beating from people suffering from Landism- puntlandism, south-western somalism, jubalandism- etc. and that is not fair to xamar which remains to be the place most somalis reside- despite the hardships of ISBAARO, warlords etc. The fact of the matter is : somalia is suffering- Let us free our minds from regionalism which could be intepreted as latent qabyaalism. wa calaykum assalam
  8. Assalamu calaykum, SmithNwestern, I get your point. I agree that Xamar is not a peaceful place. Partly because they are warlords who control many parts of the city and partly because it remains to be the town with the largest population and as such crime is rampant. But don't you agree that Xamar gets a beating from people who are blinded by regionalism? Sidaan horeyba u sheegay anigu kuma aanan dhalanin xamar , waxaana iigu dambeeysay sideetimeeydii markaan nabdooned. Hase yeeshe beryahaan dambe waxaa soo baxay dad ku doodayo inaay tuulo hebel, gobol hebel amaba magaalo hebel aay nabdoontahay- taasi oo runta ka fog. Xaqiiqdu waxaay tahay haddii aay jiri lahayd magaalo si fiican u nabdoon inaan noqon lahayn. Haddii aay tuulo, ama gobol uu xasiiloonyahay, waa temporary oo cabsi ayaa umaddii ku jirto. Mahadsanidiiin
  9. Bari-Nomad saaxib reerka deji! Quote ____________________________________________ We have a nation. But we don't have a state because of the fighting in Southern somalia/mog city. _______________________________________________ Well, I don't know the difference between a nation and a state, so it would be helpful if you could eloborate. Quote: ___________________________________________ Sxb, for development and reconstruction to occur there must be peace. The cities you are hearing about have peace and are flourishing(by Somali standards). Somalia is no longer a One City State. Although you might not like to hear that ______________________________________________ Come on sxb! flourishing? I thought you knew better! Why shouldn't I like to hear about somali progress? Let me make one thing clear bro: I am not from mogadishu, if that is what you are implying! -thus I am not blinded by the issue of regionalism- or qabiil. If we had cities and regions that are flourishing- dhul gaalo ma joognen.
  10. Flying still: bro/sis: this is another ploy to receive a few dollars from western donors. While aids is a global phenomenon, I think it has yet to penetrate somalia. Compared to other countries somalia is safe. Moreover, bro/sis we have other diseases (such as malaria, hepatises, typhoids etc) not to mention Gun fire to tackle. Such articles depict a bad picture of an already war torn country. It is by the aid-maffia.
  11. Xamareey xaal qaado! waa laguu gefe. despite years of destruction Xamar remains the craddle of somalia. It is xamar that holds the key to somalia's progress. Without xamar there is no somalia........... so sidaasi ma aha? If that is not the case, then how comes we don't have a nation? My fellow somalis, in cafe's, qaad houses and on the streets of european and north american metropols, we are confronted by people who claim that this and that city in somalia is flourishing... haddaay arrintu sidaas tahay Maxaa xal loo la'ayahay?
  12. Salaama calaykum, For months I have dwelled on the question of what constitutes an intellectual. I have on several occassions posed this burning question to my fellow somalis only to recieve answers that according to me did not quinch my search . Of course, the most obvious answer to the questions would seem to be: a person working with his intellect, relying for his livelihood (or if he need not worry about such things, for the gratification of his interests) on his brain rather than on his brawn. Yet simple and straightforward as it is, this definition would be generally considered to be quite inadequate. Fitting everyone who is not engaged in physical labour, it clearly does not jibe with the common understanding of the term “intellectual.” amongst the human race. Indeed, the emergence of expressions such as “long-haired professor” and “egghead” suggests that somewhere in the public consciousness there exists a different notion encompassing a certain category of people who constitute a narrower stratum than those “working with their brains.” In the Somali sense, expressions such as Somali intellectuals reveal the presence of an all-knower. But this is not merely a terminological quibble. The existence of these two different concepts rather reflects an actual social condition, the understanding of which can take us a long way towards a better appreciation of the place and the function of the intellectual in society. For the first definition, broad as it is, applies accurately to a large group of people forming an important part of society: individuals working with their minds rather than with their muscles, living off their wits rather than off their hands. Let us call these people intellect workers. They are businessmen and physicians, corporate executives and purveyors of “culture,” stockbrokers and university professors. There is nothing invidious in this aggregation, no more than there is in the notion “all somalis,” or “all those that chew qaad”. The steady proliferation of that group of intellect workers represents one of the most spectacular results of historical development thus far. It reflects a crucially important aspect of the social division of labour, beginning with the early crystallization of a professional clergy and reaching its acme under advanced capitalism—the separation of mental from manual activity, of white collar from blue collar. There is some alienation of the intellectual amongst the Somali society expresses itself not only in the crippling and distorting effect of this separation on the harmonious development and growth of the individual, the nation or the clan—an effect which is not mitigated but underscored by the intellect workers’ getting some “exercise” and by the manual workers occasional partaking of “culture”—but also in the radical polarization of the Somali society into two exclusive and all but unrelating camps. This polarization, cutting across the antagonism between social classes, generates a thick ideological fog obscuring the genuine challenges confronting society, and creates issues as false and schisms as destructive as those resulting from racial prejudice or religious superstition. For all intellect workers have one obvious interest in common: not to be reduced to the more onerous, less remunerative, and— since they are the ones who set the norms of respectability—less respected manual labor. Driven by this interest, they tend to hypostatize their own position, to exaggerate the difficulty of their work and the complexity of the skills required for it, to inflate the importance of formal education, of academic degrees, etc. And in seeking to protect their position, they pitch themselves against manual labour, identify themselves with the intellect workers who comprise the ruling class, and side with the social order which has given rise to their status and which has created and protected their privileges. Not that every intellect worker explicitly formulates and consciously holds this view. Yet he has, one might almost say, an instinctive affinity to theories incorporating and rationalizing it. Now I submit that it is in the relation to the issues presented by the entire historical process that we must seek the decisive watershed separating intellect somali workers from bogus intellectuals. For what marks the intellectual and distinguishes him from the intellect workers and indeed from all others is that his concern with the entire historical process is not a tangential interest but permeates his thought and significantly affects his work. To be sure, this does not imply that the intellectual in his daily activity is engaged in the study of all of historical development. This would be a manifest impossibility. But what it does mean is that the intellectual is systematically seeking to relate whatever specific area he may be working in to other aspects of human existence. Indeed, it is precisely this effort to interconnect things which, to intellect workers operating within the framework of capitalist institutions and steeped in bourgeois ideology and culture, necessarily appear to lie in strictly separate compartments of society’s knowledge and society’s labour—This principle “the truth is the whole”—to use an expression of Hegel—carries with it, in turn, the inescapable necessity of refusing to accept as a datum or to treat as immune from analysis, any single part of the whole. Whether the investigation relates to unemployment in one country, to backwardness and squalor in another, to the state of education now, or to the development of science at some other time, no set of conditions prevailing in society can be taken for granted, none can be considered to be “extraterritorial.” And it is wholly inadmissible to refrain from laying bare the complex relations between whatever phenomenon happens to be at issue and what is unquestionably the central core of the historical process: the dynamics and evolution of the social order itself. And this raises a further issue. Interpreting their function as the application of the most efficient means to the attainment of some stipulated ends, the intellect workers take an agnostic view of the ends themselves. In their capacities as specialists, managers, and technicians, they believe they have nothing to do with the formulation of goals; nor do they feel qualified to express a preference for one goal over another. As mentioned above, they admit that they may have some predilections as citizens with their predilections counting for no more and no less than those of other citizens. But as scientists, experts, scholars, they wish to refrain from endorsing one or another of these “value judgments.” It should be perfectly clear that such abdication amounts in practice to the endorsement of the status quo, to lending a helping hand to those who are seeking to obstruct any change of the existing order of things in favor of a better one. It is this “ethical neutrality” which has led many an economist, sociologist, and anthropologist to declare that qua Scientist he cannot express any opinion on whether it would be better or worse for the people of underdeveloped countries to enter the road to economic growth; and it is in the name of the same “ethical neutrality” that eminent scientists have been devoting their energies and talents to the invention and perfection of means of bacteriological warfare.
  13. Latiif: I agree 100% or as we somalis say Ishaad ka tuurtay! The so called communities are made up of often greedy individuals who see these kinds of organisations as a potential breadwinner. In the western world and muslim world for that matter, communities exist to promote the well-being of a group. they are run and managed by individuals on voluntary basis- in the somali sense (I am departing from my own observations) so called somali communities exist to capitalise on the handouts (few dollars)- and do not serve a common purpose! The culuma have failed the somali society in that they failed to adress issues that are important to the somalis- Everywhere you go you meet culumas who preach on the devil (the gaalo) while at the same time not condemning the actions of the black gaalo (warlords, murderers etc) amongst them. They also fail to tackle social problems that affect somalis...... It seems to me that we somalis have redifined the delphic concept of intellectualism. we call anyone who has graduated from a college DR. infact, if you look at the names of somalis in the diaspora and abroad, you can't help but notice the prefixes of Doctor, doktoressa, injineer, duuliye etc. What characterises the somali intellectual? according to my personal opinion, he/she is not an academic intellectual (academic individuals shy away from mentioning their titles) but losers who see academic qualifications as away to enhance their tribal discourse. More to come on this subject
  14. assalamu calaykum, back from vacation, I noticed Baashi's topic. BAASHI MAHADSANID SXB! here comes part two of my earlier article on internet addiction: The growing body of research in the area of addiction suggests that Internet Addiction Disorder (IAD), a psycho physiological disorder involving tolerance; withdrawal Symptoms; affective disturbances; and interruption of social relationships, is a presenting problem that is becoming more common in society as on-line usage increases by the day. With the growing importance of the Internet to Somalis everywhere, in everyday life, more and more people are accessing various on-line resources each day. The World Wide Web is informative, convenient, resourceful, and fun. For some people though--the addicted--these benefits are becoming detriments. There are varying opinions on the subject, especially among those who utilize the Internet. Some say that the Internet can be addicting, to the point that it disturbs one's life and the lives of those around him. Others say that there is no such thing as Internet Addiction Disorder-- getting pleasure out of a computer is not the same as getting pleasure from cocaine or any other drug. Whether there is or is not a bona fide disorder, the Internet is disrupting many people's lives. Take the example of Cabdi, a 45-year-old Somali, who came to Canada in 1987 as a refugee. Cabdi is a father of four, a self confessed addict whose live evolves around the Internet. He says” “I bought my first computer in 1999 when a friend to me that I could learn a lot. I was working par time by then so; I did not have any problem borrowing the money. We bought our computer, installed it. We asked a friend of ours to help us understand the machine. He showed us somalinet, BBC etc. and told us that we could chat with Somalis everywhere. Not knowing about the dangers, I taught my wife how to chat. We logged on using our real names, willing to give our cyber friends our e-mails. After a few months I noticed that our whole life evolved around chatting. We had more friends chatting than in real world. Six months later and my marriage collpapsed. Asha, my wife had apparently met some cyber friends and I had by now learnt lying, about my age, name and what I do for a living. I had nearly 10 somali women who send messages everyday and told me they loved me” Jamaac 32 and a computer scientist confesses to writing and participating in forums. He says, “ well, well, I have no idea how it started but what I know is that my nickname is more famous than my real person. I log on to forums, use foul language, just to get attention. Tribalism is my best topic. As a Somali, we have are part of a clan-based society. I am not realistic but it gives me excitement when people reply to threads.” What are the signs? This ten-item survey is designed to test online surfers' tendency to become addicted to the Internet: * Do you feel preoccupied with the Internet or online services and think about it while off line? * Do you feel a need to spend more and more time online to achieve satisfaction? * Are you unable to control your online use? * Do you feel restless or irritable when attempting to cut down or stop your online use? * Do you go online to escape problems or relieve feelings such as helplessness, guilt, anxiety or depression? * Do you lie to family members or friends to conceal how often and how long you stay online? * Do you risk the loss of a significant relationship, job, or educational or career opportunity because of your online use? * Do you keep returning even after spending too much money on online fees? * Do you go through withdrawal when offline, such as increased depression, moodiness, or irritability? * Do you stay online longer than originally intended? If you scored between 0-3 `yes' answers on this survey, you probably have very little chance of becoming addicted to the Internet. If you scored 4 'yes' answers, you may or may not have a tendency to become addicted to the Internet. If you scored 5 or 6 'yes' answers, you may have a greater chance of developing a problem. If you gave 7-9 'yes' answers, you may very well be addicted to the Internet. Signs of Internet Addiction in Workplace & Employee Behavior * Noticeable decline in work performance * Preoccupation with the Internet * Stay late at work to use the Internet * Make an increased number of errors and mistakes * Sudden withdrawal from co-workers
  15. Finally a good topic to discuss. I am an addict of somali music. May I add the following : Sharif axmed shariif: "Gabartaan jeclaaye miyaad ii gargaari, gabal dhac iyo waaberi guriga aad ku nooshahay salaanteeyda geeya, miyaad i gaclootay". Actually this Fanaan only sung this song which has been popularised by Buunis. My favourite: Cumar Nuur cabdulle: jamaadeey. I agree with Baashi, I can't help listning to Mooge! Aweeys khamiis mabuute is another underrated musician !

  20. Assalamu calaykum, I must confess that I am a vivid fan of all kinds of somali music. everything from Dhuule, Aweeys Geedow, to contemporary folklore. From saar lugeed, dhaanto, kabeebey to walansaqo. I have noticed that most of my somali brethen after listning and enjoying banadiri music would alter the words "MURTI MALAHA". Could it be that our culture has been distorted?. How would you people define the concept of murti? what is the difference between using "the camel" as a point of reference in songs or Diiq? This would be my last contribution before I go on a well earned summer holiday....I would therefore like to take this opportunity to wish all of you a sunny summer! It was indeed a pleasure to be part of somalianonline regulars!
  21. assalamu calaykum, BariNomad quote: ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++.S What do you have against camels?!? Bad experience? +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Bari saaxib, I have nothing against camels or the nomadic life that our parents pursued. As a matter of fact my dad is still a nomad. However, I find the classification of the majority of somalis as nomads a fishy subject. The traditional nomadic life is no longer the matrix of the somali community. In my view most somalis are subsistance farmers and traders. Unfortunately due to several reasons their activties have not come to the attention of somali students!
  22. Charismatic.... quote: ================================================ Entrepreneur is what we call a pure typical somali man. "Old somali man" =============================================== I take that as a compliment! Teneg yu
  23. Flying: there is still hope for the likes of me? tell that to our sisters who have been seduced by western philosophy on marriage. NIN KU DHALI KARA AYAA KU DHAQI KARA
  24. Hijabified, Men's clock never ticks I think a marriage where there is an age gap is the one most likely to work. Marriages thrives on differences in ages, attitudes and thinking. Xayat, I have this feeling that I am going to attend your wedding! Beleive it or not I am going to Toronto to attend a wedding between a 29 year old man and his bride of 21! You impress me with your attitude towards the so called arrange marriages.
