Aud, Every somali I meet and discuss somali issues with is in a denial of our history. My aim of engaging in this particular discussion was to discuss the role of kenya. Somalis would go nowhere if we try to hide the various genocides committed because the perpetrator descends from our tribe. We should be able to condemn the actions of our relatives. If we don't do that , there would be no peace. I am not a lawyer, but would you take this as an evidence? Or do you want me to dig deeper? http://www.puntlandpost.com/News.php?id=2590

Audacious, yeah, every leader in somalia is a saint- who are the warlords? and why is it that somalia is burning? Stoic, You and I have alot in common. My maternal grandfather was also killed fighting kenyans in the early sixties. And I am glad that he died fighting for a just cause- both our grandparents were mujahids and uncorrupted by tribalism- great somaliweyn guys- and it is their spirit which any sane somali should promote. I have lived in the NFD and Kenya - I have witnessed at first hand what has become of our people; How somalis were humiliated, how young girls were raped because they were somalis, how kenya encouraged tribal wars between the different clans etc. The fact of the matter is that kenya has still some laws in place that specifically target somalis (I have the names of this acts in my office and I would provide them to you). There is officially a state of emergency in the NFD and a person like me cannot go back to my birthplace! The red carpet treatment for the somali warlords is uncommon and is a ploy sxb. Any analysis should explore beyond the rehtorics, discourse and history of the current kenyan government. Let me turn to the economic front- you argued that the NFD is no different to somalia- I hope this a flip of the tongue (finger) because the somali economy (centrus peribus) has fared well the last decade despite the human cost. You are right though the NFD is still backward in terms of infrastructure and education. But this is where we part company. Again, from my way of looking at it, this is because Kenya is not interested in improving infrastructure. The motto is that development in the NFD would lead to cries for independence! This is not a new strategy- a classical one that has been inherited from colonial rulers- and in my eyes kenya is a colonial power. Qaad earns kenya hard currency- but when we are talking about the NFD, you forgot that the NFD accounts for the lion share of kenyan exports of live livestock and hides and skins. A friend of mine, Farah, Mohamed I, did his thesis on the NFD and I would insha allah provide figures and facts to show you and others there has been a huge surplus in (GRP) gross regional product in NFD's favour. Actually, having read that insightful and fact filled dissertation I concluded that the NFD is viable economic wise. (INSHA ALLAH; when my leave is over, I would provide some excerts from it). p.s the full name of the thesis is: From ethnic response to clan identity. A study of state penetration among the Somali nomadic pastoral society of northeastern Kenya Mohamed I Farah.

Guhaad, intresting analysis. The bottom line is that both Ethiopia and Kenya have the goal of making sure a strong somalia never evolves. A strong somalia would threaten the stability of both of them because these two countries colonise western somalia and the NFD. To be able to do this, they have to use proxy strategy. Fund and arm somalis factions, give their backings to a warlord, arrange some kind of process, hamper peace process like that in Djibouti. Stoic, Let me admit that I hate Kenya with PASSION. My hatred is not one that has come the last 14 years of the somali civil war. I have at first hand witnessed what kenya's did to somalis- and It is naive to blv that it is an honest broker. Put it simply, Kenya is the number 1 enemy of somalis. I could relate to several episodes of kenyan's 40 year history to make my point; Give you a clue of the kenyan constitution, give you the names of somalis who were massacred simply because they were somalis, give a background of the kenyan hatred towards somalis. There are some people who want to limit their analytical spheres of the somali-kenyan relationships to the 4 years- but that is futile and unfair. On the economic front, I think we are speaking about two different borders; From my perspective the border between somalia and kenya goes south of Isiolo . I don't recognize the sovereignty of Kenya in the NFD. This are somali territories robbed by successive kenyan government. The NFD contributed alot to the kenyan economy in terms of GDP but never got a cent back! There is lack of infrastructure, they lagg behind in every aspect of development because the kenyan colonial government made sure it never develops. To make sure they retain this, kenya has always encouraged inter-tribal conflicts and made sure those somalis in the NFD who questioned it went into exile or are imprisoned. Any student of economics would tell you that one of the major problems in the developing countries like kenya is getting the hard currency needed to clear debt and purchase goods. In this respect, somali remittances, and the entrepreneurship rampant in the eastleigh area would give you an impression of how somalis are contributing to the kenyan economy. There was no inclusive parliament formed in Kenya. There was no peace process if we put aside the tribal-politics of contemporary somalia/somalia. Look at the list of ministers and you agree that it contains murderers and ppl who are responsible for the demise of our identity. yalaxow, yey, morgan, caydid, caato, et al. We should be ashamed to call these people leaders. They are stooges, bootlickers to the kenyan agenda. The Djibouti peace process was an inclusive one. For the first time in somalia's history, every group was allowed to air its grieviances. sorry guys, markaan maqlo madax canbuulo dhiiga ayaa i kara. P.s Kenya did not shoulder the cost of hosting the conference. Different UN agencies, western and arab governments and NGO paid for it.

Juma, I am intimidated by your signature sxb. It says my location Windtalker, I don't think kenya helped reconcile somalis. Kenyans have the goal of making sure a lame somali exists. The Doofaarey process was not a reconciliation process. It was a process of making sure somalis would NEVER threaten Ethiopia and Kenya.- and they have achieved that. Moi was the one who initiated the doofaarey process and it would go into the history books as the greatest achievement for kenya- and the icing on the cake for somali humiliation. The kenyan economy is built to a greater extent on somalia. NFD towns have never seen the economic dynamism created by the collapse of somalia- Kenya benefits in terms of hard currency, entrepreneurship and cost reductions in its military budget. Our so called president, PM, speaker and parliamentarians are guilty of treason. They are political stooges. The only "peace" process that somalis engaged in was the ARTA process, initiated by a somali and where for the first time grievances were heard from all walks of somali society- and where for the first time a president (later on turned thug) and a PM were nominated not because they massacred children, women and the elderly but because were deemed fit to lead. Unfortunately, they failed because of several reasons. On the other hand, the Doofaarey process brought together outcasts of the somali political spectrum. Looking at the minsterial positions, one begins to wonder how somalis accepted the likes of Yusuf, Yalaxow, Caato, Morgan, Shatigaduud, Hiraale and the WHO IS WHO list of murderers to lead them. Returning to this subject, if kenya and Ethiopia were honest they would have arrested the thugs for crimes against the somali nation- and possibly arraigned them in Arusha, Instead, what kenya did was feed them, cloth them and facilitated the rape of our nation. Death to the madax korankor and their extended somali arms.

SOMALIA IS NOT ON THE LIST. WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON.
Coloow replied to Camel Mlik's topic in Politics
Milk, somalia's debt to the world bank is approximately 3 billion dollars (source:http://www.ieo.org/world-c10-p2.html) But that is small potatoes compared to the debt owned to countries which might be ten times that one! The debt deal issue is by far the greatest PR move of the century after the abolition of slavery! The "poor" countries shouldn't have borrowed the millions of pounds in the first instance because they didn't have the repaying capabilities. It seems that dictators were loaned the money to finance weapons and lifestyles that many africans would never realise. But, since the so called independence, many african countries have been debt trapped ( a slave-master relationship) where the master makes sure investments in the form of loans secures yield. The debt-clearance issue comes at a time when eastern european countries have been provided structural funds and the advantage of selling their products in Europe. What africa needs is 1) the right to sell its products to markets in Europe and the US. 2) The abolition of tariffs 3) The abolition of subsidies to western european(american farmers). 4) ZERO dollar/pound/kronor in donor funds. Donor money kills rather than cure. It makes farmers, traders, political officals corrupted and remove incitements. I want to explore an issue that is closely related to this one- Where would the money to finance the lifestyles of the president, PM and 275 ministers and infrastructure of somalia come from??????????? -

Bro Nur and others (sisters and brothers), I reread this thread and by Allah, I enjoyed it. In a few weeks time, I am off to the middle east (to perform cimrah and go on a shopping spree in Duabi) and the UK (to confer with qaad chewers) - and stay tuned for a report on dancing fever. In the meantime, summer wanaagsan

Baashi, In the NFD (around Moyale and the border towns) there is a clan called Sakuuye who speak Borana language. They are related, according to the local history in that part of the world to the Burji, Borana and Oromo. The Saakuye are mainly animists and worship Waaq . Together with the Boranas, Burji the Sakuuye (who are also related to the Turkana) and who populate Eastern Kenya Marlal, Marsabit etc voted no to a referendum on the possibilty of the NFD joining somalia. During the shifta wars (freedom wars) of the middle sixties many communities, saakuyes, Boranas and somalis fled to somalia. Many of these refugees settled in Bardheere, Kismayo and the jubbooyinka. I have a friend here in Sweden who is a saakuye and traces his roots to Moyale. Could these sakuuyes in Kismayo be the remnants of those days? My guess is that the Eeyle are not a homogenous group or a clan entity. There are merely a combination of groups of somalis who have a common trait of being marginalised socially, culturally and economicwise. P.s the sakuyes and Boranas , on the one hand and ,somalis on the other hand were bitter enemies in the NFD. The somalis were known asn cattle "thieves" and the Boranas and Sakuuyes were "testicle" hunters. Romour had it that to access the hearts of brides, sakuye/Borana bridegrooms were expected to provide dried testicles to the father in laws! To achieve this, the boranas and sakuuye's conducted expeditions into somali territories!

Assalamu calaykum PhD degrees used to be much hyped by some (especially in the Third World) in the past, but is no longer. A PhD holder isn't necessarily a higly intelligent individual. A PhD holder can only be good in his field of specialization, if the field is productive and can earn him/her good salary. [/QB] Hadaad, afkaaga caano/wan lagu shub! Unfortunately, so called somali intellectuals(some of them PHD holders and others with a graduate degree but who love the title of Dr) don't confine their reasoning to their fields of specialisations. Simply put, bro, our PHD holders and their shadows (pseudointellectuals)use their academic background to create and promote a tribal discourse. In sweden, I have yet to see a PHD-holder using the title Dr. I once wrote an E-mail to my supervisor who I adressed as Dr....... and in his reply he stated that he doesn't like to be flattered. In the same country, you would find somalis who might feel insulted if you don't adress them as Dr or Drs.

Assalamu calaykum, Brother Viking 1)Globalisation is a disputable concept in my field- Too often proponents of the globalization debate point the finger at cross border trading, the profileration of knowledge, the availability of overseas production factors (cheaper) and ICT facilitation of the flow of capital and ownership. But if one scrutinizes it, these factors have been occurring for centuries- and thus nothing is new about them. Too often the arguments about globalisation overshadows the important question of free cross border trading. We live in a world that is characterized by uneven conditions of development and unfair trading. Economic walls and tariffs are constructed in North America and Eu that suffocates entrepreneurship and small business development. If the spirit of globalisation is free trade, I think the poor countries would stand to gain. But, as things are today, protectionism and control of sources of endowments are the key challenges. 2. The IMF and the world Bank are nothing more than institutions of slavery and arms of dependency. The IMF and the world bank appear to have the task of keeping poor nations poor while rich nations fill their coffers with the interest rates they pray. They could be viewed as proxies of the western countries. 3) WTO is life the United nations: We have over 190 nations but only a few have the power to make changes , declare war or reduce the risk of war. There is no agreement when there is no parity between the partners to agreement. 4) UN SECURITY COUNCIL- whose security? Whose council? They should instead call it the state department’s office of war! Insha allah, I am going to answer the remaining last questions sometime in the future! P.s Läget bror?

War bal ibtiladaan eega? Hardly a day goes by without some nuthead hurling insults at "shariifka". This dhal awliyo turned merchant is not criticized because of the qaad entreprenuership that has given him a position but because he does not see eye to eye with a vet doctor turned PM and a president with the goal of "madaxweyne mar i dhaha" syndrome. Would somalia want a speaker, a president and a prime minister who agree on everything? Isn't that called a dictatorship? The so called constitution stipulates "check and balances"- a neccessity if somalia is to be healed. That is why impartial somalis (if there are any) should welcome the voices of dissenters like Zakaria, Asha, Sifir and the rest of MPs who have the guts to say no to "the president" and PM. The only crime the "sheydhaan" quudkiisa ka ganacsade shariifka did is to explore the spirit of healing1

Miskin, you raise an intresting point and what might be the nexus for the somali problem. We somalis have defined what the term intellectual is. I was surprised a few months ago when my Qaad chewing uncle who never went to school was called "intellectual" by a website and when an old family friend of mine who failed his secondary school exam in sweden was called Dr! Anyway, I think every somali has a right to utter what he/she blvs in- but we shouldn't use titles like "dr.intellectual etc" to differentiate ourselves from the masses....

Assalamu calaykum waraxmatullahi wa barakaatuhu. Sidaad aad la socotaa waxaa aalada Internetka ku yaraada akhbaaradka/warbixinida/wararka loo riyaaqi karo. Sida badanaba waxaa shabakadaha Internetka ku soo batey ballo sheeg, baas abuur, ba' ka tali, beel warkeed. Why I am not ashamed by Idris Axmed IN every nation, there are certain values, principles and beliefs, which characterizes its identity. Those who strictly and strenuously adhere to it are categorised to be devout and honest followers. Faith is the most influential factor which controls, moulds and curbs Man’s activities, whereby other man-made motives of positive attitude, however concretely established, are set to fail and forsake its believer. Islam is the only faith accepted by God to be the sole means to approach Him through the guidance of His last prophet Muhammad (Salallahu alaihi wasallam). A topsy-turvy interpretation/presentation of Islam based on ignorance by its own followers lead to a turmoil and confusion among the non believers. Islam, though, is the most tolerant, peaceful, cooperative and generous religion. In addition to the above mentioned, there is definitely a deliberate and clandestine conspiracy to undermine Islam. There is extremely abusive image of Islam paradoxically perpetrated and instigated by ignorant individuals who claim to be Muslims. It is a temptation and tribulation (Fitna) to the weak-hearted overwhelmingly caused by the abominable deeds of the hypocrites. In my own country, Somalia, Muslims killed, robbed, raped, looted, tortured Muslims. The exodus and massacre of the hundreds of thousands has ever been an enigma and a badge of shame on my face. While I was spending sometime with intellectuals from different countries, sitting on the balcony of a restaurant overlooking on a crystal clear beach, littered with tiny pink crabs, coral reefs and shell fish; I suddenly indulged to boast the mild evening breeze near Abu Hussein seaside, the tumultuous waves of the Indian Ocean which constantly hit its huge rough rocks, Lido, second Lido beach and Jaziira. Had I limited my exhilarating comments and singing of my own praises to this point, it would have been recorded as a score of mine. As none of my colleagues could contradict me in establishing facts and features of the natural beauty of my own country that it was an innocent peace of land which once used to be a paradise on earth. I was taken deep into my flattering prowess and sense of proud, but startled by one of my colleagues refuting my claims that the quality lies not in a country but its people. Despite being denied of solid evidence to support my argument, yet I did not give in to the defeating blow of the former Italian journalist, Mario; a tall and skinny young man in his thirties with a ponytail, suddenly jumped to his feet fiddling vigorously with his rough leather rotten brown bag, he produced some documents and excerpts of Italian newspapers, depicting the brutal civil conflict since the overthrow of the late regime. Mario seemed to be determined to defy Somali’s least human identity, where he went pale and barked in Italian: Mio amico, vedi qui, vedi, vedi cosi, vedi qui e qui e qui, questo e Mogadishu, questo e Kismaiu, e ancora questo e Baidoa!. Each time he was yelling in a vulgar and coarse tone resembling the Napolitano dialect. The guy was waving several glossy photos, in his hands, of maimed men, dishevelled women with frowning faces running bare-footed, banana and mango trees slashed, uprooted and reduced to ashes with heavy gun fire, corpses scattered on the streets, and an old man whose hands are tied to his back sitting on a pool of blood. Another newspaper showed a gunman brandishing his rifle while mounted on the top of an armoured, rusty, old Toyota (Tekniko). Though I was struck by a fit of rage, I lost no conscience and orientation to challenge him of the existence of anyone Somali who committed suicide due to undergoing severely harsh ordeal! Instead, almost all Somalis who lost both life and chattel maintained an utmost steadfastness and said: “we belong to Allah and unto Him we return “. Such is the essence of the Muslim, whatever the negative circumstances prevailing at the time. Furthermore, I mentioned to Mario that Somalis enjoy an enormous monotheistic doctrine negating the Godless, atheism, and pluralistic trinity of the east and the west. It is yet a positive indicative of this fact that Somalis around the globe, the good and the bad, the old and the young, the devout and the deviant, were all moved by a disastrous shock and a tremour to find once their own daughter and sister turned an apostate to deny the existence of God!. Having warded off and refuted Mario’s accusations, it is our duty to come to our conscience and improve our ever deteriorating and constantly aggravating awful situation. What can be understood from my dialogue with Mario is that we are at the final frontiers of faith. Apart from being monotheistic and Unitarian nation, we have done everything and anything of the most abominable evil from which even the worst of atheists shun. Not only Mario ashamed me in front of the panel of multinational intellectuals, but also the old Hindu lady who was hymning glory of an idol was taken back by poignant astonishment, to hear during our conversation while on the train, that Killing we killed each other, raping we did, not to mention looting, pillaging, and the massacre of children and women. Trust me, a Japanese monk called Hirohito Yoshimoto who was sitting by her side and his two daughters burst into tears as soon as they heard me saying: Even the sacrament of Masjids (places of worship) were violated! Unlike for the notoriously curious Mario, I did not have any solid evidence as to what was the main cause of the civil conflict after the escape of the former dictator regime! A Lebanese young man asked me: are there different religions or sects, like in Lebanon, fighting each other? I said in Somalia we are all Muslims. The Hindu lady shrugged agog, raising her eyebrows in an awesome gesture, while frowning she murmured: perhaps you speak different languages and belong to different races: I said we all speak Somali language (with slight and minor difference in some dialects)! They were both confused, as they were still waiting for the real cause of the conflict: I hit the nail on the head and declared: “It is a tribalism based conflict with an influence of political interestsâ€. While the Indian and the Lebanese appreciated it quite abruptly, I had the greatest difficulty explaining the first part of the cause to Yoshimoto: what is the meaning of tribalism? As I understand political interest, asked Yoshimoto. It is a social structure whereby communities belonging to a certain clan help each other, remain faithful to each other, cooperate and a very strong bond of fraternity and sincerity to each other is practiced. Yoshimoto sighed in big relief and said: you must be joking young man, this is a positive thing, nothing wrong with it, we Japanese people do it, we love each other, we help each other, we cooperate together and it is called nationalism. That is not the real cause of the conflict, you must be joking! No, No, No, No…..Noooo……. He continued saying: Look, the Germans prioritize the German products, language, and nationals, we do the same, the British, the French, the Americans, the Chinese, and every nation puts its people and products first. We buy Japanese and rest assured there are many facilities favoured for the nationals first and foremost. Let alone on national scale, I am from a very small island north east of Japan, people in our locality cooperate more, are strongly united, yet come from different backgrounds or clan as you say. After pondering over the most suitable analogy, I said: It is like you hating or fighting your own brother/sister in faith, just because he/she belongs to another tribe with whom your tribe has had a hostility or conflict. The Japanese was so bewildered and muttered: No, No, No, impossible! I further continued: The negative part of the tribalism is that cooperation, love, fraternity, mutual help and assistance is solely confined to and reserved for members of the same clan. The other person who belongs to another clan, though there is no any trace of tribal animosity, is not rendered as much confidence as the person from the same tribe and always remains the odd man out!. In your case, the people who live in a certain region in Japan, cooperate and harmoniously help each other due to regional factor, belonging to the same environment or location regardless of tribal origin. Before I could start the next sentence to relax and soften the severity of the scenario, he said: you mentioned during your explanation of tribalism, brothers of the same faith, could you please tell me which faith is this? Once again I perspired vigorously and felt the swift and heavy throbs of my heartbeat from behind my back, my legs started shivering and gradually started swelling heavily, I did not want to fall into the same dilemma as I did with Mario again, though, (better an open enemy than a false friend), I should not mix the chaff with the wheat, neither mistake chalk with cheese. Look, I said: In every faith, there are people who deny its teachings called apostates, if they originally belonged to the same faith and renounced it; then there is the true and devout follower, in the middle lie a third category, neither to this side nor to that side who are in between Hypocrites (Munafiqin). Better Yoshimoto know about the hypocrisy of tribalism than tell him our faith is Islam, we are Muslims, yet we fought, killed and hate each other to this extent! So, I continued, Islam is the faith, Muslims are the followers, there are true, faithful, pious, virtuous, good Muslims, fortunately we do not have the second category (apostates), but unfortunately we have the third category (hypocrites). It was to my delight to find out that Yoshimoto was not only a Buddhist monk but just came back from a trip to Malaysia where he met a group of University students from various countries studying Islamic studies in Kuala Lampur. He reached out to his luggage on the rack, and took out a copy of the Quran in Japanese. It is a gift from one of the students, he grinned, tightly clutching the small booklet between his fingers. I have seen the best character of Islam with these students, and they presented to us an ideal application of Islam. One of his daughters who were carefully following up the conversation with much interest snatched the Quran from the hand of her father and swiftly browsed the pages till she stopped on a page where the verses were underlined with red and yellow marker: She started reading in Japanese: 3:110 Ye are the best of peoples, evolved for mankind, enjoining what is right, forbidding what is wrong, and believing in Allah. If only the People of the Book had faith, it were best for them: among them are some who have faith, but most of them are perverted transgressors. She said this verse from your book (Al Quran) and others were the answer of the Muslim students in Malaysia to the question of my Dad who asked them why they were interested to call us to Islam. When asked what was the secret of their intimacy, fraternity, close relationship and mutual cooperation, despite the vast differences of their origin and social background, they quoted: 3:103 And hold fast, all together, by the rope which Allah (stretches out for you), and be not divided among yourselves; and remember with gratitude Allah's favour on you; for ye were enemies and He joined your hearts in love, so that by His Grace, ye became brethren; and ye were on the brink of the pit of Fire, and He saved you from it. Thus doth Allah make His Signs clear to you: That ye may be guided. My dad made further enquiry about the secret of their personal evaluation of the personality, regardless of personal interests or worldly superiority, with all equal opportunity, justice and without the least discrimination, they referred to the this verse: 49:13 O mankind! We created you from a single (pair) of a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that ye may know each other (not that ye may despise (each other). Verily the most honoured of you in the sight of Allah is (he who is) the most righteous of you. And Allah has full knowledge and is well acquainted (with all things) . Though I had difficulty persuading my Japanese companion in the journey, that the misconducts committed by my people in Somalia was totally adverse to the pure teachings of Islam, I succeeded to comment on the positive and bright side of my beloved Somali people. Virtually there are many positive attitude we excel the rest of the world, behold, all people commit mistakes and the best of those who commit mistake are those who oft return (to Allah and seek His forgiveness). There are numerous well-wishers, the new generation who is looking forward to bright future. For this reason I am sure yesterday’s culprits and war criminals are regretting of their past, they are serious to repent to Allah, and peace is hopefully blossoming in the country. Once we come to our conscience, fully resuscitate, I am definitely sure, we are the best of people. All we need is to return to Allah, seek His forgiveness, exercise self-restraint, steadfastness, and high morale, love one another, be kind to each other and give peace its right and utmost importance. I am looking forward to bright prospects towards unity, peace and progress in Somalia and behold with every hardship there is an ease.

From Wardheernews Clan Consciousness Disorder Dole Muktar April 22, 2005 The history of clan is one that's full of love, hate, loyalty, killings, revenge and utter destruction. It is one that has left the individual self (shaqsiguu) lost in the darkest chamber of clan sickness. I hold the opinion that, clannish behaviors contributed to the creation of unhealthy and unreasonable human being. It's very important to understand that the individual self is one that has developmental process. The individual develops in the clan. The clan and the self co-exist. The self lives within the clan and the clan exist within the self, in other word the clan will not exist without the individual. However, the individual self and the clannish behavior have often been in constant opposition, sometimes consciously but mostly unconscious and submerged. The individual self often tries to launch an internal fight against clannish behaviors, but with less needed boldness and often these attempts dies unrewarded and unrecognized. These very unrecognized and unrewarded fights within the self eventually create two things; First, it creates a blindly uncritical self loaded with extreme loyalty to the clan whether good or bad. Secondly, the above condition of the self leads to the common ruins of the contending classes. This finally leads to the ultimate destruction of all. George Herbert Mead, a great thinker, armed with the concept of the “Self†pointed out something very interesting. He suggested that “the self {Ruxaa or shaqsigu} is something which has a development; it is not initially there at birth, but arises in the process of social experience and activity, that is, {the individual self} develops…in relations to that process as a whole and to other individuals within that process.†The Somali individual developed within the complex process of the clan; a process which has no provable universal practicality to heel its short comings. The individual self is forced to develop within the circles of the clan. These very conditions demanded the self to be conscious and loyal to the expectation of the clan. The social experiences of the clan dictates to the individual self the idea of belongingness and the understood set of expectation of the clan. These set of expectations may sometimes be unfair to the individual or rather the other contending classes. Nevertheless it affects the behavior of the self tremendously and ultimately the community at large. The individual self is bind in an illusionist contract he or she hardily got any chance to consent to or agree with. It's innately imposed on the self during the course of social interactions with the clan members. You are expected to be loyal, the defender of the clan for better or worse. The clan comes before the individual's needs, yet no one is holding gun to the self. The self just conforms to the innate rules of the clan. After the self is long exposed to such poisonous processes the individual self ends up reasoning along the clan lines. Once infected the clannish attributes may not be strange to the individual self any more, even when the action seem foolish according to the assessment of the same individual. The same individual self may shy off from embarrassing practices outside the clan comfort zone; Practices which may be welcomed by the clannish atmosphere. This is so because, the social experience of the individual self developed within the mainstream of the clan. Take for example those Somali individuals brought up within the clan and those brought up outside the clan influences. I suspect they have different developmental behaviors. I suspect that most individuals who were brought up in clan influenced environments are more likely to suffer from clan consciousness disorder than those brought up in urban household. I don't think the individual self knows much about this disorder neither do we have enough research out their to deal with these menace but I strongly suspect that this vicious disorder agreeably exists in all tribal based communities. The sad beauty about Clan Consciousness disorder is that it doesn't favor any clan over the other. It paradoxically also don't directly affect the clan as an entity. It rather affects the individual self. It incubates in the heart and the mind of the self. It equally destroys everyone and everywhere it affects. It destroys those values that make the self humane. It is a stealth psychological menace that has no boundary. Regardless of which clan or tribe the individual belongs, the effect of Clan Consciousness disorder spreads across the spectrum. Like any other disorder it doesn't discriminate its victims. In the case of the Somalis, everyone is one way or the other affected by this disorder both young and old. It s very important to remember that Clan struggle left no single clan free from sufferings. The Somali people suffered despicably. So, it is just more than concern to ask: How did this happen to us? And the most urgently how might it end? Or to just put it simple is it possible to have the Somali people realizes that Clan Consciousness disorder reaped apart everything we held so dearly and that we may need therapy of some sort. Well, reasons has that if we don't do something about it, we will self-destruct ourselves and become ancient and join the ranks of Timbuktu as was nicely stated by Faisal Roble city planner L.A, in his magnificent article. The Clan system in Somalia developed quickly into a regular institution. The clan system has evolved over time to a point where it proved harmful and dangerous to the people. The negatives acts of clan Consciousness Disorder violated every tenet of humanity by deceptively tailoring itself into the hearts and the minds of its victims. It poisoned every healthy capillary of the living self. Its devastation is written all over the faces of the Somali masses. Basically no one is safe from clan consciousness disorder. It's therefore collectively the responsibility of the people affected by these forces to act. But, again we may not be able to act if we don't understand the stealth nature of the forces of clan consciousness disorder. If we are to ever survive from this disorder we must stop relating and judging every little incident along the clan line. We have to look critical whether it's worth to hate and categorize people. We must recognize that we are not independent in our clannish actions. We need to realize that unless the sick is diagnosed by a physician he or she may never know the symptoms of the disease he or she is suffering from. For example if people didn't know malaria is caused by mosquitoes, people may never have cleared the swampy bush around their villages and that they may be dieing from the disease. Like wise we may never know we are sick unless we acknowledge that we are suffering from clan consciousness disorder especially when we hate and categorize people. I think we are being deceived by this terrible disorder. If we ought to know how these manifestation works, how it dupes us to hate, divide and sub-divide we ought to look back in our past. There are nothing much to be proud of. Things are messy even today yet we still have no answers. I strongly argue the case that many of us are indeed infected and not in control over our actions. This clan consciousness disorder dictates our actions because it took a great role in our development. That is why when the individual is infected with clan consciousness disorder his original self gets distorted. The individual unconsciously develops both extreme loyalty to those he or she temporarily associate with and an extreme hate for those he or she disassociate with. Reasoning is merely subdued. The hateful factor is the most dangerous. It has a very poisonous element which negatively commands the self to extremely hate those categorized to exist outside the loyalty ring. With this develops inexpressible feelings; one that incites the person to divide and farther categorize. Often sometime it's understood that when the group is too small to even divide, these very hateful forces deceive the individual to farther subdivide. This is where we find the development of the sub clans, sub tribes and even sub-families. Sometimes it snow blows to the family level. We have many living examples among the Somalis. For instance one can find brothers of the same father or sisters of the same father hating each other simply because they have different mothers or plainly stating, differences that are very complicated and unexplainable even to the same individuals involved. Individuals in these kinds of scenarios often say that they feel strong hate towards their opponents but cannot effectively substantiate why they feel this hate. I chose to call this hate, “Clan Consciousness disorder.†These very forces push calls for division in the family level. Sad to say but the individual self unconsciously responds to these false calls. I find these symptoms rather reasonable and may lead us to the very heart of the way to understand what we are dealing with. The Clan conscious disorder and its forces sedate the self. It destroys the independent mind of the self. This terrible disorder paralyses the original family loving, clan loving, land loving and people loving self and replaces it with something else. Something we know very little about except the strange symptoms we have been observing. The bad news however, is that this disorder is hereditary. The more it's left to live and flourish in the family or in the community at large the more complicated it gets. The more the father passes it over to his children the more it farther sub-divides the family. Eventually it weakens all social, political and economical infrastructure of the family or community. It attacks the central pillars of the family. Finally the family collapses. Currently the forces of this disorder proved to over power family love, clan loyalty, Somalinimo (nationalism), religion and customary (Xeer). Clan struggle have turned out to be the untreatable cancer in the Somali society. Its' very important for us to analyze these symptoms, make something out of it, understand and bring them to the light before it completely destroy us. Only then can we have the capacity to fully understand and be able to recommend remedies over the forces of this disorder. But again one may ask why I belief that clan consciousness disorder is such a terrible disease? Well, because I hold the belief that it is what deceives the healthy self and drives the individual to divide and categorize people. It should be normal to love ones own family, Country, customary, neighbors and above all one should be holding humanity high. Sometimes I wished I had easy answers. The simple truth is that there are no simple answers. Again I don't want my generation to pass this terrible disorder to the next generation. I don't want to choose to hate instead I want to fight this evil disorder that is preventing the self to act responsibly. From my observation I have no doubt in my mind that something is preventing the self to love his or her family, Country, customary and religion. The self is not in control of himself or herself. I suggest we use other successful people as a mirror take a deep look at ourselves and borrow if we have to and be pragmatic about life. My father once said to me “if your culture decays, drop it.†I wonder if he had a point. One observation that really surprised me in my research was the fact that our beloved elites who were to be the beckon of hope were actually manipulating the disorder and self serving their egos and in the process they were too deceived by the disorder. The clannish sickness corrupted the elite and the educated individuals. Most of them thought they understood and could actually use the disorder for their own benefit; they decided to cash on it. They have discovered the power in it, the power to control the infected poor people of their clan. But what actually happened was that the elite also got deceived by the disorder. What the elite didn't know was that this disorder has properties that adapt, change and re-manipulate the self. It made the elites become self-centered individuals who only seek to quench personal thirst for his or her selfish needs. So they go ahead and release their frustrations by inciting their clans' men. For instance if an educated person from clan “A†fails to meet the qualifications of an important job position and a slightly more qualified person gets the job from clan “B†the elite from clan A takes things to the next level. I will actually argue that from this point on ward the elite are acting out of hate and no longer independent in their actions. The educated person from A gathers his weapons to fight back even when he or she very well knows that the other person by merit was more qualified and deserved the job. This is now what I call back firing manipulation. The manipulator becomes manipulated and eventually no one is safe. After the elites infect the poor with higher dose of highly negative clannish incitements, the disorder tremendously flourishes causing absolute anarchy. In the end, everyone loses. Now must we deal with the destructive nature of Clan Conscious disorder; a disorder that still continues to claim many lives and property? I believe we have no choice. Any society that allows complete uncontrolled clan influences in the development of the self will most likely be plagued with Clan Conscious disorder. I hold the view that everything that has a beginning must have an end. This very optimist notion kept me thinking and at the same time hopeful. That's why I want to specifically challenge our young psychologist majors and professional alike to further investigate this subject and hopefully conduct a serious research if possible. Like I said earlier I wished I had easy answers. I think the fact that I identified my clannish feelings as a possible ingredient for a disorder kept me on the alert to watch myself against my own actions. So far it kept me out of troubles. I hope it will work for you too. Dole Muktar

How fair is Oogle’s assessment of the BBC’s Chief Somali editor?
Coloow replied to QabiilDiid's topic in Politics
Nayruus, the problem with us somalis is that even if Nabi Maxamed (SAW) was a somali, we are going to depart from his tribe and condemn/condone him. Our points of departure is one that is clan-centric. Once a person holds a senior position (president/prime Minister/ broadcaster), we tend to ask what clan he belongs to- and hell/heaven breaks out! I rarely listen to the BBC (I see it as one of the last remaining pillars of colonialism). But there are few things about it that I never liked even back home. The relatively homogenous dialect of the presenters. If the BBC-somali service wants to accomplish itself as a source of information for somalis, then it should diversify itself in terms of dialects. But, I guess that is a different issue than the one at hand. -
"Group 1. Coalition of Puntland (it’s entirety), RRA (majority), North Mogadishu sub-clans, and collection of opportunistic sub-clans." In the name of sincerity, I don't think everyone from northern Mudug, Nugaal, Sannaag and bari supports a power hungry "col" whose only merit is a revenge discourse. Aren't Galeyr, Jini Boqor, Jamac Ali Jamac, Abdirisaaq sh, Hussein from "puntland"? Are Caydid, Gacmodheere and the many ministers from puntland sub-clans? In regards to RRA majority, this is a complex one. It depends who you ask or what kind of sources you listen to. The RRA is nothing without two major sub-clans that inhabit Bay/Bakool/Gedo and these two subclans are against the president and his henchmen. Haabsade represents the largest sub-clan in Baydhabo. NORTHERN MOGADISHU subclans??? You are talking about Mohamed Dheere and his "sub-clan" is the weakest link. VS. Group 2. Central Somalia sub-clans, Mogadishu lords, criminal entrepreneurs, one RRA malcontent warlord, nervous and confused JVA junior partners, and clannish militia wrapped with noble Islamic garb. This seems to be an intentional list of "evil". This kind of categorisation is why our nation is dying. There are no good or bad ppl in somalia."Central" somali subclans are not a homogenous group with similar goals, Criminal entrepreneurship is a feature of somalis, from north to south. JVA confused? Nervous? why ???? Won the leadership???? Are you calling the doofaarey meeting of thugs, warlords and a few good ppl a transparent process? This polarization is what is wrong with somalia/somalis. The undertones of such a polarization is " clanism"- am I right? My categorisation would be like this : a)The oldest warlord who may have been responsible for the disintegration of somalia has been appointed by "peers" consisting of warlords as a president of the pretex of bringing back the nation known as somalia. He appoints a PM who does not have the merits required for a somali office: Warlordism. His only merit from the battle field is being related to a tribal nuthead who governs what is surely, the poorest, lightly populated shabeelada hoose. This PM appoints virtually every warlord to a ministerial post. The lionshare of the ministerial posts to went to his sub-clan!!! b) Somalis begun sensing some hope in the horizon albeit some of them were very sceptical of the government of warlordship. The president and PM decided to break the rules that governed the Doofaarey process: It was not long before the president verbally resorting to tribal discourse, the language of revenge etc. Anyway, somali MPS went to various cities, the president and PM went to some parts of somalia When you were hoping finally somalia would be healed. The warlord president and his PM bring the issue of foreign troops. The division of power stipulates the power of parliament to reject government proposals and hence the parliament votes against frontline troops. We would not have been in this position had the president and PM accepted the will of the majority of MPS. What is going to be the consequence? Another civil war? Another tribal war? This is a likely scenario. Abdullahi Yusuf, Geedi and some websites are fuelling the vehicles of wars. There is no doubt that the islamic card and the tribal one are used by southern warlords; My hope is that visitors to this website and other websites that cater to pan somali needs and development don't engage in the madness surrounding somali politics.

Yusuf Inda Cade leaves Baidoa but leaves some millitia..+ Xudur meeting
Coloow replied to General Duke's topic in Politics
This indha BAAS guy must be the smartest warlord I have ever read about. One could say everything about his motive, but it is surprising how fast he came to Baydhabo, (INVADED IT! or freed it-depending on who side one is), makes bold statements and leave. If I see him, I am the first person to kill him, but he has shown somalis that he is the strongest warlord in somalia. Many of the other warlords have usually empty threats meant to frighten off- but this man does the acts of warlordism and does the talk. A few months ago, he was reported to have aided Hiraale in Gedo. He then showed the same kind of swift strategy. If anything, the latest development in Baydhabo shows the need for dialogue and a strong determined government. Abdullahi Yusuf and Geedi cannot rule without the support of somalis- and so far that support is elusive. Abdullahi Yusuf should sack Geedi who is losing the support of the warlords and the people. The issue of foreign troops in somalia is killing the spirit of peace. Futile attempts to blame the speaker (sharif Qaadwade) from Yusuf and Geedi is having a profound affect on the way somalis think. The ethiopian hand is a factor that might kill off all attempts at reconciliation. If the so called president is not ready to enter into dialogue with the warlords and soften his tribal rehtorics, somalia is doomed to continue the path of decay- and in the process Abdullahi Yusuf would become another Ali Mahdi or Abdiqasim. The risk is that we are back to square one; another civil war, the birth of a new warlord, the re-emergence of tribalism and a maqaar saar government that is based on tribalism, theftry and the creation of ppl like this Indha-cade. -
Assalamu calaykum, Brothers and sisters in islam Fellow somalis Let us pray for our people and our nation. The Doofaareey process appears to go the same way the Carta and Adisababa processes went. More bloodshed, more tribalism, the births of new warlords and the polarisation of our community along tribal lines. Any sane "somali" with the will to think and reason freely would neither accept the use of islam by a tribal warlord who never declared jihad on fellow gaalos who rape and rob fellow muslims Nor a president/pm/parliament/ministers whose only merit is the number of people they killed and their tribally based discourse of revenge/power/hatred. We need a new voice, a voice of reasoning, a new movement based on the undiluted solution offered by our faith (islam). At the moment, islam is used as a means by warlords to enhance their tribal objectives . Thugs and murderers combine praying with rape in parts of somalia. No reasonable somali would accept A president elected by warlords, his prime minister who should be curing camels and a shariif turned qaadwade as catalysts of another civil war. From my geeljire perspective, it is Kud ka guur oo qanjo u guur.

War bal eegan balladaan? Ma shariifkii (qaadwade turned sheikh shariif ) ayaa dhabarka loo saarey riwaayadii? Actually, I enjoyed watching the video of the incident. It is a common thing for parliamentarians to exchange blows or harsh words (I watched a similar thing once about Asia). I read on the east african standard about how a disabled MP caused the bleeding of some members. According to madaxkorankor instructions, no MP was allowed to enter the venue with a bakooro/a knife. But since this lugeey could not walk without his bakooro, the madax canbuulo made an exception. When the brawl started this Jiis was seen hitting other members with his UL. He is the guy in the pink shirt (if you watch the video). Contrary to what others say, I think it was a great show of progress. For the first time, we had warlords, sheikhs, sheytaans, shariifs, burcad, bililiqo brigade etc not using guns to settle a difference. Absent too was the element of tribalism in the fight. But, at the end of the day, their resolution lacks potency. I would have understood if they said NEJ/njet/no to all foreign troops. But, it seems their target was Ethiopia and the madaxkorankor. I am angry at the way the somali internet based media have portrayed this issue. They attempted to give it a tribal flavour. The whole Foreign troops issue defies the logic and the spirit of reconciliation.

Somali intellectuals challenge the Federal Parliament!
Coloow replied to wind.talker's topic in Politics
A befitting title would have been: Somalis without a country. There is another communique by "somali concerned citizens" on Hiiranonline. This list consists of former ministers, directors and teachers who made somalia what it is. So, we have two groups of people (somalis without a country" and the loser's association". Soomaaliyeey xaal qaado. P.s do you ask yourself why somalis love titles? Everyone is either ; a barafasoor, dhooktor, janaraale, koloneeyl, injineer
