That,my friend was fun. I remember, the books from SOM were far more superior than the kenyan books. the quality of the paper was superb. So,it holds the magazine(jaldi) very well. You know, those book covers were green and it had a logo that said: "ITT"(where we would say it meant is tus tus). Wtf did it stand for, Maybe XIIN can tell me... X11nos,niyow,nin gamuun tuuray hadaa tahay, ma yarid

  20. Childhood? Man, that seemed like a century ago. And there is not a single thing that is distinctive. However, once in a while,I see myself replaying one tradition, over and over. The trips to Miyi. Once a year, during the rainy season( I think it was Deyr),we will all bundle on the back of the Landrover early morning and head to MIYI. Sometimes it is as far as the somali border other times it will not be far . The trip was full of fun. Imagine screeming kids left on the back of an LR? Fights, jostling for a comfortable position. I always sat next to the extra tank of petrol(go figure).Once the trip was underway, We would duck from thorny tree brances . Screeming everytime dad swerves thru the mud and sending water five six feet high in the air. We would stop to pick up reer miyi heading to baadiye and drop them off @some spot. We would stop to get some mareer fruits and caday and pick wild flowers. Once I collected some red small fruits and just before I could put them in my mouth, my cousin told me I will die. Turns out these were poisonous fruits. I am thinking, why would they be red if they are poison? Anyway, these trips were exceptional. And when we see grandma, that was the real fun. The first ritual is drinking caana garoor and codka. Then it is time to play with the goats. L0L. But, one thing sticks to me: The smell of the soil after it just rained. The water dams, the grass, the cow dung, the camel dung and the goat dung combined with the petrol and the engine of a landrover.aaahhhh. The worst part of the trip is the sleepless nights. Caused by of course the sound of dhurwaa, yey, dawaco and libaxs.( I was assured they are miles away, but they seemed to be like 5feet awaY). The other horrible experience is being forced to put on animal fat as lotion…that my friends, smelled like, well, animal sh1t. Oh well…that is a distant past. Now,I am stuck in 35degree weather in the midwest. Obviously, I am paying for some crimes I comitted ages ago. how else could one live in such a place?
