I always wondered, how elderly Somalis, knew some fantastic English Words. Who tha heck is Margaret Laurence?

What about Bengalians? and Malaysians? or Suranamians? or Britians? or Finlandians? or Germanians? of Francians? Why is it hard for ppl to say Somali?

You're comparing apples with oranges there. The O-denia resistance fought and is still fighting decades to get from under the rule of the Ethiopian monarchy so they could live in freedom. Whereas the Asmara and the TFG group ana ku-xukumayo iyo i-xukumi maysid isku dilayaan [Ethiopia ha baxdo waa un iska mar-marsiiyo] . I dont think thats what it is right now. Before the Habashis came, yes perhaps. Laakin hada, its a matter of life and death. The occupying army is killing Somalis. And the people are resisting it. Its the nature of occupation; The occupiers kill and torture, the resistance fights. Calaa ya xaal,I agree with you. Peace should be given a chance and hadan been laisku sheegeynin,ALL THIS WILL BE SOLVED if the Ethios leave,Sax? -

Originally posted by Nephthys: Addeerayaaloo, do you honestly believe the Ethio military will leave Somalia? Even when you support something [war against TFG] whole-heartedly, you should consider the consequences first. Ehtiopia meel uma socoto, cid kastaa og! At this point, both sides are Isma dhaanto iyo dhasheed. The Asmara group compared to the TFG is ofcourse a saint, nonetheless they both claimed innocent civilian lives. Waa u jeediin Ethio is creating havoc and turmoil to achieve their objectives of death and mayhem to innocent civilians. The Asmara group ilaa yowma-diin may dagaalamayaan? Ilaa Somalia dhulka la dhigo. PS: FB, I follow the news addeer. Thanks. Nimaan shanta kaa celin, adunka kaama celiyo. No resistance gets respect if you throw in the towel. They came by force, they will leave by force. Imagine,if the glorious men of O*Gadenia just gave up their dream of liberating dhulka? Suppose, the Ethiopians were never met with any resistence? What would be of the people? You think they situation will be different? NO. The occupying army will still kill, torture and loot your land. I say,let the TFG address the single most contentious issue of Ethiopian withdrawal, then there will be serious dialogue. Until then,it will be all doomed. -

What’s a lot worse is mixing English and Somali words, not sentences, as we’re all guilty of that. For example, call-garey, watch-garey, find-out-garey etc. Really, I fantasize about ina wajiga ka slap-gareyo Guilty as charged, Wax iga mix garees badan majiraan. So,i guess i should ready myself for some slap-gareys from Lilly

Originally posted by Nephthys: quote: The only way the Asmara group will have dialogue,is when Ethiopia is out of Somalia. If the TFG is able to address this issue,i am pretty sure Sh.Shareef will negotiate with them. But will they will they? Will this PM address this issue? Doubt it!! We all know getting Ethiopia out of Somalia is not a workable option for the TFG. Obviously a compromise of some sort has to occure at this point. It's about time the Asmara group gave peace a chance. If not for themselves, then for the rest of the Muqdishu civilians and forget about revenge, which is the road to more ruins. Already 6000 dead, how many more of their own people are they willing to sacrifice? It's crazy! Cadeey, the problem is with THE Ethiopian presence. The safety of the leaders is not guaranteed when we have an enemy army in the streets of Mogadishu. Have you been reading the news? They kidnap, torture and kill leaders suspected of aiding the insurgency every day. Heck, they kill anyone who is sympathetic to the cause,You tell me what they will do with Sh.Shareef? The problem is Ethiopia, and unless its addressed accordingly, nothing is moving forward. -

Originally posted by Caamir: Nomadique, the TFG is willing to sit down and hold talks but will the Asmara group acquiesce to this invitation and diplomatic gesture by the new Prime Minister? To lessen the further displacents and killings of those who are caught in the crossfire, the Asmara group must stop resorting to guerilla type warfare and join their brothers in building the state. This is precisly what i was talking about. Its all gimmick on the part of the TFG. The only way the Asmara group will have dialogue,is when Ethiopia is out of Somalia. If the TFG is able to address this issue,i am pretty sure Sh.Shareef will negotiate with them. But will they will they? Will this PM address this issue? Doubt it!! -

If the TFG is genuine about rebuilding Somalia,it should definetly sit down with SH.Sharif,Laakin,I have a feeling that this is just all talk. Meles Zenawi rules Somalia(Thru the TFG)--Lets see what he says about this. Thanks Nom, -

Originally posted by *Pujah*: KK, I wanna know the crowd you hang out with lady cuz I don't think I have came across anyone in their early to late 20's butchering the English language. Yeah most have accent but who doesn't. ?. You will be suprised at the number of young Somalis who cant write and read English. I dont blame them btw,English is not our first language. But,when you live in a country where speaking and communicating in english is essential,i think,it a wise economic decision to invest in learning the language. I remember back in the late 90s,ambitious Somalis enrolled in ESL classes, today fewer Somalis are enrolling. Its just sad to see a young Somali dragging his freind to help him when he needs services from the govt. Worse than that is when a mother takes her teenage son to the Dr's office to translate; the embarrassment of asking his mom or aunt some intimate biological terms  (although, proffesional translators are helping these days).
