Originally posted by SOO MAAL: Lidia, Sorry, if you took it personally, I am not saying you are racist or clannish, but your irresponsible comment, that the two alleged Somali men are from that specific region of Somalis without evidence is unacceptable. There no Ethiopians who are ethnically Somali, but there is Somali regions and Somali people who are occupied by Ethiopia, there many nomads here in this forum, who are from Western Somalia (a Somali region occupied by Ethiopia), and we should express sympathy for them. O.K. now I understand it was just irresponsible comment as you said, and that you didn’t mean to offend any specific Somali group or region, so just be careful the way you putting your words, because it might offend some specific people unintentionally. First of all, do not distort my response, I was being honest and sincere with you when I used the word “irresponsibleâ€, so please cut the ridicule, by repeatedly taking the word “irresponsible†out of its context. I clearly stated that I was not referring to Somalis that inhabit the boundaries or in this case the regions in which you are speaking of. I made no such comment, nor does any of my above posts say, “that the two alleged Somali men are from that specific region of Somalis†as you claim. However, what is unacceptable is your accusations and rhetoric, which leads to the defamation of my character.

Originally posted by SOO MAAL: Ladia, your statement of “Hey isn't that, ina so and so." applies equally to all Somali people, regardless of whichever part of Somalia (meaning all Somali territories whether it’s the Somali Republic, Djibouti, Western Somalia, or NFD) he/she is from whether he is from, so don’t be racist or clannish, because being racist or clannish will make you to differentiate between Somali people negatively for no obvious reason. Lidia, you offended our fellow Somali people – who are occupies by African colonialist Ethiopia, by saying “even if he is, I think he is an Ethiopian or an Eritrean, who is ethnically Somaliâ€. Since you don’t evidence you need to apologies to these Somali brothers and sisters. SOO MAAL, First of all, I’m neither clannish nor racist. Perhaps I made an irresponsible comment, but to say that I’m “being†or that I am racist and or clannish is very discourteous, for I harbor neither of those qualities. My comment was made in response to Jumatatu’s statement previously, in which I was in full agreement. I was simply addressing the physical appearance question, in which to many of us established this individuals Somaliness.

Originally posted by OG_MOTI: Lidia sorry sis u are being politically incorrect, what do u mean an Ethiopian or an Eritrean, who is ethnically Somali, are you suggesting people in O g a d e n land? seriously what do you mean ethnically somali.. I demand explaination.. people from there are Somalis and fighting for freedom since day one.. so please explain urself and apologize... Peace OG_MOTI, I don’t see how my statement is politically incorrect. No where in my statement did I profess to exclude or marginalize or even insult any group let alone the people in which you refer to. I simply meant that there are Ethiopian and Eritrean citizens who are of Somali descent. I did not speak of the people of ******ya, nor did I consciously include them in this category. I’m fully aware of their existence, but nevertheless view them as a whole separate entity in this particular case. Thus, I do not see the need for an apology here. If you need to discuss this matter further, please do contact me via PM and I will be more than happy to talk about it with you. Certainly, I did not intend to offend anyone here. Yours truly, Lidia.

Originally posted by Jumatatu: I doubt whether the guy they claim is a Somali is really one. Considering the known facts that there are many people who claim asylum in the UK pretending to be a Somali. The other thing is having being confirmed that his accomplice is an Eriterean which raises the doubt whether there can exist a trust to that level for this individuals of different origins to conspire to comit such a hideous crime. It simply doesnt add up.Also there is no one in the wider Somali community saying they know this man, which is strange cause if they did it would have spread as a wild fire. I completely agree with you there, Jumatatu. we would have known his tribe, family name, etc, by now. Someone would have said something like, "Hey isn't that, ina so and so." Therefore, I really don't think that this man is a Somali, and even if he is, I think he is an Ethiopian or an Eritrean, who is ethnically Somali.

Why buy a house if you can't afford to pay for it? If you don't have the money, why get a loan? I know some of you have the money, but would rather save it and spend it on other things, but still, I think it would be much better to buy a house without getting a loan.

Hmmm... odd, it says you've joint here November, 2004 and this is your first post?

Some of you may have already received this as an email and read it, but to those of you who have not, here is a little something to make you laugh Subject: ACTUAL QUESTION ON CHEMISTRY EXAM The following is supposedly an actual question given on a University of Washington chemistry mid-term: The answer by one student was so "profound" that the professor shared it with colleagues, via the Internet, which is, of course, why we now have the pleasure of enjoying it as well. Bonus Question: Is Hell exothermic (gives off heat) or endothermic (absorbs heat)? Most of the students wrote proofs of their beliefs using Boyle's Law (gas cools when it expands and heats when it is compressed) or some variant. One student, however, wrote the following: First, we need to know how the mass of Hell is changing in time. So we need to know the rate at which souls are moving into Hell and the rate at which they are leaving. I think that we can safely assume that once a soul gets to Hell, it will not leave. Therefore, no souls are leaving. As for how many souls are entering Hell, let's look at the different Religions that exist in the world today. Most of these religions state that if you are not a member of their religion, you will go to Hell. Since there is more than one of these religions and since people do not belong to more than one religion, we can project that all souls go to Hell. With birth and death rates as they are, we can expect the number of souls in Hell to increase exponentially. Now, we look at the rate of change of the volume in Hell because Boyle's Law states that in order for the temperature and pressure in Hell to stay the same, the volume of Hell has to expand proportionately as souls are added. This gives two possibilities: 1. If Hell is expanding at a slower rate than the rate at which souls enter Hell, then the temperature and pressure in Hell will increase until all Hell breaks loose. 2. If Hell is expanding at a rate faster than the increase of souls in Hell, then the temperature and pressure will drop until Hell freezes over. So which is it? If we accept the postulate given to me by Teresa during my Freshman year that, "it will be a cold day in Hell before I sleep with you, and take into account the fact that I slept with her last night, then number 2 must be true, and thus I am sure that Hell is exothermic and has already frozen over. The corollary of this theory is that since Hell has frozen over, it follows that it is not accepting any more souls and is therefore, extinct...leaving only Heaven thereby proving the existence of a divine being which explains why, last night, Teresa kept shouting "Oh my God." THIS STUDENT RECEIVED THE ONLY A

Africa seeks Economic growth and prosperity. So, Africa needs to promote economic development, emphasizing on industry over agriculture, economic self-sufficiency, government intervention and trade protectionism, manufacturing being the key here. The issue is not Aid, but rather debt relief and fair trade, for if Africa had both, they would not need handouts from DCs. In the Doha round for example, few African countries joined together in their opposition to US cotton subsidies and the WTO ruled in favor of these African countries. Although the US is defiant, this joint opposition was a good step for Africans and their struggle to attain fairer trade policies. Again to emphasize my point, Africa does not need aid but, rather they need fair trade and debt relief.

"the Somali clans had lived and interacted with one another for over a thousand years without political and economic decay" I find the above statement to be rather interesting, for it is the white mans "divide and conquer" strategy that has been and still is killing our people. It is nicely written piece however, although I did not like his use of emotional fallacy: his attempts to arouse the emotions of his audience in order to gain acceptance to his argument. I mean, despite the fact that Siyad Barre was a brutal dictator, he was not a Pol Pot.

Originally posted by VisiT: ^^^ Maybe Lidia is from Brava. Remember the portugese Vasco De Gama history in East African coast? There are decendent of portugese origins living in places such as Marka and Brava, I heard. In Mombasa, Kenya I remember the story of 'forte jesus' which he (i think it was de gama) build and is a tourist attraction even today. So if Lidia traces her origin back to the portugese, my talk about the early portugese (when portugal and spain were main colonizers) may be relevant to what she's saying. You've hit the nail on the head there, VisiT. Anyway, all I was saying is that not every Somali has an Arab blood. Oh, and yes my family is from Brava.

Actually, I trace my ancestors back to Portugal. I’m of Portuguese origin, and my ancestors were Portuguese ship merchants and not Arabs.

Wow! What a great debate. I can sadly say that my Islamic knowledge is truly limited. However, I can see why such question can be very confusing. From reading this Article I would say that apostasy is not a crime which should be punished my killing the individual, that is clear in the qur'an. However, the other nomads have candidly established good points that make a lot of sense. This is by far the most interesting topic I have read.
