Ever since I've started praying regularly, I find myself tensed so a certain degree. Ramadan has added and increased this constant tension I feel.I just cant seem to relax. The moment I sit, I can see my mind racing and calculating the prayer times..time 4 Iftar...not having read the Quran...etc.In the middle of lectures, I think about how I'm missing duhr and Asr Prayers. The moment I get home, its the same thing - cant seem to enjoy the Iftar if I dont pray 1st...I'm talking about from the the 1st bite..after which I usually go and lie down and end up eating nothing. Same with Isha - wont get up to pray till 11pm but the thought that I havent prayed is there.. cant do anything with a peace of mind...and then I sleep...and automatically wake up 4 Fujr -usually spend 15-20 minz contemplating if i should eat and pray or just pray or go back to sleep. Does any else experience Prayer Tension?? Any measures on how I can spend less time thinking about praying and fulfilling my religious obligations than doing it? *Cant write any further 'cause I know Asr is waiting..

An Interesting Article and More Interesting points of View. The way I see it, Education should definitely come first in a woman's life - Higher Education 2 b more specific. Infact, it should be declared a prerequisite to being a mother. Reason being - she is the backbone of her family and the one who will sit day in n day out helping with her kids homework. The one who will teach them the fundamentals to being successfull in this dog eats dog world of ours.Provided no years have been skipped, crucial education can be covered by 22-23yrs of Age - well in time 2 have a family. There is nothing wrong with being a home-maker(*trying to be politically correct)... infact, every woman should take that few years off to give her full, undivided attention to her childen. However, what becomes of her after all her kids are in school and not home half the time? ... hopefully have some kinda qualification to fall back on...give something to the wider community and enhance her life. I dont have a problem with educated, aware, self relient mothers who take time off to raise their child ........ its the no-job going, uneducated, unaware, dependent women who think they only thing they can contribute to the world is feeding a few individuals - I loathe. Mothers who can only clean and cook and take abuse from their husbands - 'Somali' mothers who havent the slightest clue what the no-good kids they raise with no principles, values or any sense of self motivation do... Sorry 4 going off topic a bit there - just annoyed by this redundant subject .... I think those women are wonderful..but rest assured, when their kids are a lil older, they will all go back to work or pursue some other activity/work that will either give some PERSONAL fulfillment or MONEY

Writing big words don't make u a better person!

Diversity is what makes life interesting - and writing. Redundant phrases and limited vocabulary = monotonous. -
This is really sad May Allah grant them all Jannah. InshaAllah I'll include them in my Du'a this Ramadan.

Welcome Back Shyhem, pleased to see you. Ramadan Kariim to Every1 on SOL.

I dont quite agree with you guys. Its a matter-of-fact that sex appeal and explicit vidoes sell. She is just using the never failing formula to achieve success. To use that success to do good seems like a selfless deed to me. Its more likely an AIDS campaign let by Beyonce will be more successful than one by unknown professionalz. It maybe good publicity for her but I think its definitely more beneficial for the campaign. Her videos do have sex appeal and all the rite ingredients for a great-selling video, but it doesnt encourage unprotected sex and promiscuous lifestyle. Besides, this is da best some1 of her status can do...raise money required for resources.

It was definitely an eye-opener for me. One particular officer in da programme said he would murder someone based on their race if he could get away with it...surely this reflects a sadistic attitude more than racism. I believe most white people are nuetral. Obviously, everyone has more affinity for their race, but they wouldnt comtemplate causing harm to some1 soley 'cause of their ethnicity. The most racist ones usually are poor, come from broken homes, constantly display anti-social behaviour and are beleaguered with problems. Being hateful is a way to vent their frustration as they beleive we are part of it by consuming their resources and accupying their jobs. Since they really cant do anything to us, its best to ignore them. Conspiracy..so where do u propose we go?

For some reason, I feel I relate to her on some levels..n NO, I'm not stup!d - just spoiled

Hello Jamaal, If you read the above para again you'd realize that you said Non-Somalis and that would exclude other muslims. Also, when you refer to "culture", it implies behaviour patterns, arts, traits and beliefs exclusive to one nation/community.Other muslims have nothing in common with somalis in terms of culture. Therefore to me, the notion of "cultural purity" sounds restricting, unhealthy and backward. With reference to that story, a Somali man infected some Somali women...whats this got to do with cultural purity? May I add that there is no reference to where and how he infected the disease himself. To assume that its from a non-somali or a non-muslim is absurd. Its a matter of knowing what you're getting into as a person - whether it be with a Somali or not. ----------------------- Survival of the fittest baby

^^ Agree with U. Dont really beleive in limiting one's self to just their territory. You're likely to learn more and experience life on a greater scale. Provided there is some fundamental similarities - WHY NOT.

I'm a bit perplexed by Nur's response to this particular question. If I didnt read the above, it would never accur to me that it was wrong to donate my organs to save a life-any life. I'd think since Islam is all about helping, organ donation would rank high in the "ajar" department. But thats using my commonsense n not from "knowledge". Now, if I needed an organ badly and the donator was a non-muslim...can I accept it? From the above, probably not.So living in a foreign country with more than 3/4 of the population non-muslims leaves me with little chance of survival if any of ma organs fail me. However, its ok for me to accept medication, undergo surgery and accept all kinds of help from non-muslims but if it was to save a child's life, i couldnt give ma kidney? Thats Harsh!

Can any of you cite written documentation of her defaming Islam as a religion? I've not read any or seen her speak against diinta. However, Islamic rule as imposed by self rightious men who think its their divine right to oppress women for their personal gains, is another. Every women should stand up for herself if she feels the rule of the land infringes on her human rights/rights as member of society, and thats exactly what Ebadi is doing. Just because the wrong doing of the selfish muslim men are being pointed out by a non-muslim, also is not a blatant attack on Islam but the people who practice it. With regards to the pics, Hijab or not is not a sigh of ones lack of faith. Not wearing the hijab doesnt equate to being UnIslamic. One could be without Hijab(for reasons personal) and yet have strong Islamic ties and a great deal of respect for those who implement it in their thoughts, words and actions.

Level 19 and rolling

She has taken groundbreaking cases dealing with domestic abuse and the rights of street children. Her writings have touched on rights for refugees, women and child laborers. Ebadi has been awarded on Friday the 2003 Nobel Peace Prize for her focus on human rights, especially on the struggle for the rights of women and children. Behind is Antoine Bernard, executive directorof the International Federation for Human Rights. She turned her law office into a base for rights crusades and assaults on the establishment on issues such a persecution of dissidents and now-rare punishments such as stoning and flogging for social offenses. "The prize is an outcome of her relentless fight against inequality," said Azam Taleqani, leader of a women's right group. Iranian women were especially overjoyed . For years, Ebadi has been the most forceful voice for greater women's rights and abuses against children and those on the margins of society. Thats WHY She won....for those of U unable to read  Also Khayr, Islam was the first religion to grant human rights so the two are inseparable.

For some strange reason, muslim men see successful muslim women as threat rather than victory. Any attempt by a woman to improve the oppressed status of women in the muslim world is seen as rebellous and unislamic  Darman, a closer examination at the Iranian situation will give u a better insight. Please dont jump to conclusions. 2 thumps up to Ebadi for her valuable efforts.
