^ What's so odd about milix?
-
^ Honestly, everything in Somalia tastes better. I still can't get over how milix is enough for seasoning, here we add every type of spice available and it still doesn't taste as good.
-
^ Yep, he used to play in the NBL (Australian basketball league).

Ahem...Can i just say that the captain is a fellow Somali-Aussie. That was my plug for us down under.
-
^Nothing tastes the same abroad .

Jokes aside this thread needs to go. Nuune, get rid of it please.

^ I guess that's why we take our religion from the Quran and the Sunnah and not Muslim countries- alhamdullilah for that ay.

Oba, I know bidca is innovation, alhamdullilah i paid attention in dugsi . Secondly it is bidca because the prophet s.a.w, the sahaba and the righteous people of the past never celebrated mawlid. If you truly want to remember Rasuallah, follow his example. So as nuune has said are you going back to the books?

^Be gracious in defeat NG, you were pipped to the post fair and square. Anyway, good evening from the land of four seasons in the one day.

Oba, Didn't you pay attention in dugsi, Mawlid is bidca.

Just when you think we can't get any worse things like this happen.

Carafaat;910255 wrote: Maybe you should stop rewriting history yourself? What did you want me to write? That Hargeysa was the only city neglected by previous governments? And that the SL people were the only victims? Is that the correct version? Norf, Good point but both sides have to adopt a give and take approach and we must all forgive each other.

When the young child who has never laid eyes on the Horn is indoctrinated with distrust what hope is there? My father was targeted by the Barre regime, personally targeted to the point that he was in hiding for some time- thanks to corruption though he fled Somalia on a government scholarship to further his studies in the UK,lol. That said though NORF i knew that it was the fault of a regime and not the average person who happens to share a lineage with the old man (AUN). My mother was in Gaalkacyo when it was bombed by the government, yet again i don't blame others, just the regime. Now i realise the situation was much worse in Hargeysa, in terms of the bombings but nonetheless very few were safe- hallmark of a dictatorship really. SL was not the only region that was neglected, many others were but what i can never understand is why is there this fixation by some to re-write history, to change it to a systematic targeting of only Somalilanders? How do we overcome that should be the primary question.

Perception sure is everything. Somalis from all regions have some kind of cuqdad, some more than others and when it reaches these levels it is better we go our separate ways. Good luck with the new job, inshallah it goes well.

Ace of Spadez;910150 wrote: Rahima lets use your analogy. For sake of argument, you’ve depicted Somaliland as the wife. I won’t protest as you have made Somaliland that more appealing by describing it as the fairer of the two sexes Umm...Ok. Is it a negative thing to depict SL as the wife? You do realise that i am woman, do you not? Anyway your extension of my analogy sucks my friend. SL is not a victim of Somalia. We the people of Somalia did not abuse SL. WE (as in the people of SL and Somalia) had a president who made mistakes. Yes he committed many atrocities against many groups of people, not just Somalilanders, but it was not the Somali people, so please naga dhaaf this old argument. It is this ongoing cuqdad that cannot be overcome and therefore we should part.

Wadani;909975 wrote: So what do u think of Rahima? A foreign city inhabited by inhospitable Somalis hostile to other Somalis from beyond their borders? How many time do i have to tell ppl, Somalilanders don't hate other somalis. Just come to Hargaysa and u'll see how multi-clan the city is....and the southerners there fare much better than they do in so called 'somaliwayn' territory like puntland, where thousands of them were forcefully deported. Why would u let a political divorce change how u perceive ur fellow Somalis in Somaliland; to me it doesn't seem like a balanced view of things Wadani, the reality IS that there are a lot of ill feelings. A wife doesn't ask for a divorce because she still loves her husband. I see Hargeysa the same way i see Djibouti- a foreign land. Not foreign like Kenya or Ethiopia but still foreign. Why is that a problem? Isn't that how Somalilanders see cities such as Kismaayo, Mogadishu and Bosaaso? If i am treated as a foreigner well then of course i will feel like a foreigner, you can't blame me for holding this view. Che, I have not made it a secret that i am vehemently against the Somali interpretation of Federalism for it is based on what destroyed us in the first place. All of these qabiil based administrations disgust me, but the way I see it is that so long as spouses (to go back to my initial analogy) agree to remain under the same roof (even if they sleep in different rooms), there is still a chance that ill feelings can be mended and they can once again find love and understanding. Once one of them wants to move out, the situation is complicated. I don't know why so much energy is wasted on this issue. The people of SL (including the contested areas) should be allowed to have a referendum and any areas voting yes for independence should be given it (in that the Somali government should recognise their wishes). We should be putting our energy towards the rebuilding of bridges between those who DO want to remain as part of Somalia. We should be putting our energy towards the rebuilding of Somalia. Our country is alhamdullilah getting back on its feet and that is what we should put our collective efforts towards. If SL does gain independence i will wish them well but i will not concern myself with their affairs- my home is my business, the home of others is not any of my business. I personally feel that if we adopt this attitude, with time, the wounds will heal.

Somaliland and Somalia never shared a country only between 1960 and 1991 its a whole different case different civilization different continent different history different people thus incomparable. Are you serious? No way can you be serious- tell me you're kidding.

XX, Well of course you would think Somalia needs SL more! A lot of the time i find that fellow Somalis object to SL not because of any specific attachment or obsession (which is beyond insulting btw) but because of all the contested areas. What exactly is SL? Does it include Awdal for example, because we all know that many from that region view SL as a temporary notion. Are they being forced into an independence they do not want? You are right about identities though, when i think of Hargeysa i don't think of it the same way as i do Kismaayo, Baidoa, Mogadishu or Bossaso. No ill feelings, just being honest. Obviously the SL/Somalia thing has affected even those of us from Somalia. STOIC, I see your point but it will be very hard to overcome such feelings. Of course it would be nice if we could (heck i hope for the unification for the entire Ummah) but we just aren't ready for it yet and i doubt we will be any time soon.
-
XX, It's good to be honest with each other. The situation of Somalia has nothing to do with the bid for independence. It is about history, open to interpretation yes, but unchangeable. Even if Somalia had a GDP that trumps that of Ukraine i'm sure you'd come up with some other argument. Please don't make it sound like Somalia is some God forsaken land with no hope, 30 years did you say? Are you trying to convince us that unification is beneficial for Somalia but not SL? Look, no point arguing about this, i support SL, it just would be good if folks like you said it like it was and stop the marmarsiyo. Your argument is full of contradictions, on the one hand you say it is about interest, on the other you say "it was a lesson for the people of Somaliland never trust some one blindly". So which one is it? The latter I'm sure, hence my point.

STOIC, I used to think that but as we all know these views/feelings have now seeped into the hearts and minds of a whole new generation, one that has little understanding of the war. I changed my views after an interaction that i had with a seven year old boy whose family hails from SL. I used to help this young boy with his numeracy and literacy- our mothers were friends. Of course with time we developed a close relationship and he therefore felt comfortable enough to share most things with me. After helping him complete his homework one day he asked me if i was from Somalia or SL. I replied Somalia, amazed that a seven year old would even ask such a question. He then drew two shapes, one significantly larger than the other. Pointing at the larger one he said this is SL, and the smaller one he said was Somalia. He then went on to tell me that i should be from SL because Somalia is a horrible place and the people from there are...well you get the point. A seven year old- there is no hope. We need to move on wishing the best for each other.

Wadani;909839 wrote: What do u mean Rahima? The reality is that for some they would rather unify with european gaalo than with their fellow Muslim Somalis. Now many will say that he's just exaggerating, but i don't know that he is. I'm not saying that all from SL hold these views but what is obvious is that there is just too much hatred, distrust, ill feelings (call it what you will) that cannot be overcome so why even bother? The damage is done, it's about time we realised it cannot be undone.
