  1. Sue, I agree, that was by far (one of) the weirdest topics ever. 'Grand Empress' indeed! A true gem you are.
  2. ^^ I see you like soaps. I don't watch Family Affairs, but I do watch Eastenders, altho the Ferrera family plot has been putting me to sleep the last couple of weeks. Goodness, could that family be any more tedious? Hibo + Athena, Sorry girls, but S&TC has gone downhill. It used to be racy, clever and funny, but not anymore. Its just downright yaq-yaqsi now. I don't know...maybe I'm turning into a prude! Underdog, I watched the first episode of 24 last week. I'm afraid it was all just too complicated for my little brain! Is the story a continuation of the last series? i.e. are the bad guys (the mexicans) from the previous show? Any chance you could explain what's going on without revealing any more 'spoilers'? Pretty please? About 'The Shield', sorry, am not into dirty cops. I like the self-righteous shows better. U kno, clear boundaries between the good, the bad and the ugly. No messing about. Plus Dhukur over there ^, just plain scares me! Rudy KAAH is a Somali organisation in London working in the Arts. A collection of writers, playwrites, directors, producers, singers, song writers and other musicians, actors, poets...etc. They are heading a revival in Somali literature and language. Hope that helps.

  4. So Mary Seacole got it? Cool. 13 Stephen Lawrence, murdered teenager (how is that great?) Yeah, thats wierd. I would have thought his parents, specially his mother would get one of the top spots.
  5. Like who cares who other ppl marry? I dont see anything wrong with marrying other races...'calaf' is the appropriate word here. I wouldn't fancy it tho. Dont think I could give up the faaraxs.
  6. WoW...proper linguists in here eh? I've learned more languages than you could shake a stick at (Arabic, Swahili, French, Italian and some self-taught hindi) unfortuntely, I can only speak Somali n English now. I plan to begin an intensive language course in French within the next 6months Insha'Allah. So...just maybe...
  7. Lulla..wlc back. Ilhaam...now why are u listening to lakkad? I have kinda grown fond of the DnD nick...thas why I've still got it.
  8. Ah...romance. Is it coz its around valentines? Tell you what, I for one am sick and tired of seeing silly couples' smooching at every corner I turn. Bloody red roses, balloons, teddys! for god's sake. If that is romance...they can just keep it to themselves thank you very much. I prefer the 'nayaa, noo keen cashada' any day. Ameenah: That deserves a nice PG tip.
  9. I thought it might be so. The adverts told me everything I needed to know. Scare-mongering on the part of the BBC. Very unfortunate.
  10. I was wondering which African universities compare to the Ivy League Colleges of the USA and the Oxbridge universities of England? Which are the most renowned? The most elite? The best of the best? Someone mentioned to me that both Uganda and Ghana have very prestigious universities along with South Africa and Cairo, Egypt. Is that right? Nomads, which African university would you vote for as the very best?
  11. Hibo, You forgot to mention Baydan, Honesita, Soul_Lady, Indhadeeq and Lulla. Habluhu just up and disappeared! I don't know what happened to Petite, but LadyFatima was ok the last time I PMed her. Wildcat, on the other hand, has turned into a workaholic...I hardly ever see her nowadays. And I'm around, with a new coloured top mind you!

^^ They are going ok, thanx. Glad to know you enjoyed ur HM!
  13. LoL ^^... You would consider giving me up to the authorities for only £1000? Shame on you. PS: What did you think of last night's programme on BBC2 (Third World War: Al Qaida)? Did you manage to watch it all? Underdog I thought the first series of 24 was ground-breaking. Which made me really look forward to the second one. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a cheap vehicle for the 'war against terror' propoganda. I lost interest as soon as I saw the 'bad guys' were arabs and the weapon of choice a 'dirty bomb' set to go off in downtown LA or something similar. The third series is actually starting this month on Sky:ONE but I'm not interested. Hibo, I don't know what 'Crossing Jordan' is, but I find S&TC too jaded. The first few seriesies [sp?] were ok but both the programme and the characters have deteriorated somewhat since. Goodness, it sounds like I watch too much televison, but I truly dont. Honest. I don't know where I collected all this information.
  14. Around 90% of Somali men in Britain are thought to chew the plant. Is this ^ figure close to being real? 90%? I was sure more than 10% didn't chew. Oh well...
  15. LoL @ ^^... Tweety, u kno I'm only an ethical criminal [meaning my crimes are for the benefit of humanity ], markaa dee don't bundle me up with rest of the unwashed masses! Waa ku sidee... As for Eastenders...I haven't seen it for a while, so I dont kno what's happening in Albert Square. Maybe u should ask Northerner, since he admitted to watching it. Jamaal, Now, if I was interested in the 'perfect murder', I would be watching those real-life detective docus...u kno like 'forensic detectives', 'FBI Files', 'medical detectives'...etc, and not these glossy shows. They are purely for entertainment purposes.
  16. ^^hehehe...there's a good boy.
  17. ^^ Mansha'Allah. Am sure you'll be able to Insha'Allah. Nomads: Isn't there anyone doing the creative arts? Like Art+design, fashion, textiles, furniture/jewellery design? Does this mean that this generation is more technical/scientific than artistic? Interesting. Ijabo, I did a similar degree to urs. Let me know if you need any assistance or old essays.
  18. Hehehehe... Moral of the story: Always marry within your age-range?
  19. ^^ Thats because neither you nor Jamaal can appreciate the intricacies of these superior programs! News and sports kulahaa...boring sod! Lakkad, L&O: Special Victims Unit is actually my favourite show, but the new series hasn't arrived on this side of the pond yet. Darman, 'The Wire' looks a bit like 'The Shield'...are they similar? Rudy, I have done enough studying and reading at the library to last me a lifetime, thank you very much! Anyways, this is my year off from anything academic, so I gotta find something else to do, right? There u go.

  23. CSI:Miami CSI Law & Order Law & Order: Criminal intent Salaam nomads, This topic is about my addiction to a set of tv programs. CSI and Law & Order plus all their spin-offs. Fabulous filming, gripping storylines, great acting....Are there any finer police/legal dramas on TV? Methinks not! I'm completely hooked, and you'ld be hard-pressed to get me out of the house on Tuesday and Saturday evenings... Am I the only addict? Surely not!
  24. Congrats to the brotha. Hope it was a success.
