Escalating divorce rates in our somali communities
Valenteenah. replied to munirah's topic in General
A_Khadar;744487 wrote: Ina abiti yaa og hee if diverces overtook weddings.. May every day of the week, 7days, diverces happen when infact weddings may often happen only within the mention three days.. I guess the only way to prove this might be when we start having divorce events which I once heard there was such event in my town.. "Heblaayo getover/you better off without him party baa loo dhigay.." It was a stab in the dark. It's all anecdotal anyway but I don't think divorces are such an issue. I would go to that kind of party - Faarax-bashing with food and music, who can resist? -
True true, there's no ceeb in earning an income (unless it involves selling your body, soul or principles). Nuune brought up the jaariyad sheeko. Wuu dhib badanyahan qofkaas.

Sure, these entities will be represented, a little bit more love is especially being felt for the TFG these days. The objective is to bring the whole community together, which is a lofty mission and an achievement if even half of those on the periphery join the rest under a tree. One can only watch, wait and pray.

Hello Healthworker Femme, Don't think an old lady will understand any of those technical terms even if you find the exact Somali translations. As someone who's dabbled in interpreting, I would suggest a general explanation would be better. As in: Waxaanu u baahanay inaan baadhno jidhkaaga, siiba ....(insert the section or organ that needs investigating). Waxaa lagugu baadhayaa mashiin saanu u aragno cilada ama dhibaatada jirta. A general explanation always works better than medical terms that no one understands. The Procedures you listed would come under the 'mashiinada lagu baadho jidhka, ha ahaato kuwa sawirka ka qaada laabta ama maskaxda ama caloosha/mindhicirta gudahooda'. The tests would come under 'dhiiga in la baadho' blood investigations, so to speak. I'll try and find out for you the Somali translations I'A.

Am scratching my head about this one. Best thing I ever bought......dunno. Everything is great until I get bored of it. My GHD comes closest maybe. It's nice to have sleek hair. I see so many mobile addicts in this thread! Would you believe it, my mobile is vintage (I used the term lightly) Nokia, that does the bare basics? I can make and get calls and texts which is all I need. I refuse to get on the Smartphone bandwagon!

Mogadishu: The Somali high level consultative meeting
Valenteenah. replied to Somalina's topic in Politics
Somalina, I hear you! Lama socdo the history markaa I'll get out of the way. Peace and bariis, as an old nomad used to say. -
Caku Somali media. Imika uun ayaan si fiican u akhriyey the original piece. So this doesn't have anything to do with SL after all. Taleex Media Online = Puntland VP's mouthpiece? Talk about misconstruing words!

I love how an invitation to the gudi from reer Laascaanood turned into meetings with Somaliland! Did you know that almost every tuulo and magaalo that the gudi went to offered to host the meeting? And when the cuqaal of Laas Caanood had to leave their city to meet the Gudi in another town, LA felt suitably chastised and issued the invitation and the offer to hold the meeting in their city. I know Somaliland would like to include themselves in some way in the hopes of derailing the organisation and execution of this meeting but unfortunately they have nothing to do with it. Laascaanood waxaa u taliya dadka leh, whether some may support SL or not, it's in their interests to get involved in this process and I'm glad they took the initiative. As LA is the main divided city in SSC, it makes sense to hold the meeting there. But I would prefer Taleex. In any case, a decision hasn't been made about location, just the date so far.

True true, nothing wrong with marrying jaariyad. A job is a job is a job. Alpha Blondy;744541 wrote: Hi All. Thanks for your warm congratulations. Its been an amazing couple of weeks. I'm thinking of having a traditional 'under the tree' ceremony as its more authenic and consistent with her upbringing. The 'Mrs' is one of those daqan aan dorfin, but we seem to get along quite well. She is a little passive, but thats exactly how I want it. atleast its better than a foul-mouthed miss independent proposing we sign a pre-nup. i think it'll be an interesting partnership and she understand her role perfectly, anything else would be considered surplus to requirements. the wedding should happen after I've met her uncles in the sheikh highland and negoiated the mehr. I'm not entirely sure where we'll go for our honeymoon but I've suggested Addis, although that might be a little tricky as she doesnt have a passport. my mother doesnt seem to agree with my plans. she said that ''naag'' will 'destroy me' but i've already told her that its none of her business, anyways she's in london. god, i cant stand people interfering in my business. her family seem very happy and they're are convinced that i'm a translator with the UNDP rule of law programme. already, i've been attacked by several old temptresses who want to sabotage my happiness. people are so jealous of me, what did i do to deserve all this hatred bal? LoL, in that case congrats.

LoL, don't take it as an insult but that's exactly what it means. I would have asked the question of any poster. Mr Nomad from another life, thanks for the intro. You're a good sport.

Isn't it always the case that some awkward, outrageous or silly announcement is made by some minister and is never implemented or revisited? It's a funny way of making government policies or in other words waa af ka hadal uun. For those of us, Somalis, living in the West, how many times have you heard something similar being said by a far-right organisation in regard to immigrants? And how did it make you feel? Having said that though, I think some immigration restrictions are needed because 80 million Ethiopians gaajoonaya yaa meel uhaya? Wadankoo dhan ayey la wareegi karaan by sheer number.

Love that song too. Love the singer (name is coming up in asterisks), full stop.

^ Naah, he's too middle class to marry a domestic worker. I think maybe gabadh ayaa la siiyey. That's the only way I envision this to be true.

Haven't heard a word about Qardho lately so he hasn't been around definitely. Juxa, sounds horrible. You can never really tell unless ey dharka dhigtaan. Somalia sidaas uun baa lagu garanjirey dadka waalan. Quraan akhriso oo duceyso, Ilaahay kuma tuso kuwaas oo kale.

LoooooL!!! OMG...too funny walaahi. Nuune, what makes you think it's his jaariyad? The 'local girl' reference, was it? I think Blondy has pulled our legs too many times.

Pre-marital jug jug sheeko waa loo adkeysan karaa waayo waxaan shaabuug aheyn kaama soo gaadhayaan laakiin blatant adultery qaawan oo indho cad cidina uma dulqaadan karto, Abtigiis. Part V deserves stoning. Stoning! I can't believe you could compare it to polygamy.

Che, adiga uun ayaa jacayl u haya calanka madow.

I'm procrastinating. And what better way than to get to know our fellow newbies?
-
There was no one like him around then, everyone welcomed him unfortunately.
-
You CAN! So what now? Why don't you tell us a little about yourself?
-
Oh oh oh...our athlete is a LANDER? Basa yuub waaxid, waan la noqday taageeradeyda. (I kid, of course. I don't care what calan uu sito as long as it's not a madow one).
-
They're not all bad. Some are annoying as heck with their 'why' questions but the rest seem nice enough. Garnaqsi, NG has NEVER liked any newbies. You've to make it to full nomad before he calls your posts 'stuff and nonsense'.
-
We won't believe it till we see pictorial evidence. Not of a random girl, mind you, but you and the said girl holding hands. We need to be sure this is happening before we congratulate.
