  1. Let me try to remember how I found my way to SOL... I think I got an email informing me about a new Somali website, so I visited, liked what I saw and registered. The first topic I read and replied to was The Somali Identity by Jaber and I have been addicted since.
  2. Excuse me?! Do my eyes deceive me? Bold colours are bad and dark colours are good? Not on the Somali planet! The brighter, the better as far as we're concerned. Just yesterday, I saw a lady sporting a very becoming neon-pink garbasaar over a turquoise top and a long green skirt. Fabulous! It didnt even matter that I had to put on my shades in order to view her in all her glory without the fear of going blind.
  3. ^^Shut up waryaa! And mind your own damn business!
  4. Hello...how is it i didnt see this earlier? Khayr: (I imagine them All to be Jean Wearing, Buud swinging, Strong Ladies! ) I am more tailored-trousers than jeans...but I suppose there are a couple of deisels somewhere in my wardrobe. Boolbaro: aeryn sun: jalanqo gacma kuus cidiya dhaadheer Man, you make me sound like a bahal. Shiish! Like thats the last time am nice to u Mr Baro. X-: Aeryn Sun-5'4, curvaceous, coloured hair (red?), glasses/contacts... Interesting image. Except for the coloured hair (brown) your off on all counts. Juxa: AS. now that is what i call a foxy lady, she is sharp, waiting to attack. LoL..nayaahe, waad ii qarinaysaa soo maaha? Wey noo tahay! Dawaco, Am like you too...if I like the person, I think of them as good-looking, if I dont like them I imagine them to be minging. Not mentioning those I have already seen, here goes: OG-Gal, I have the Arabic princess image of you too. Fair-skinned, long dark hair, big eyes, and very feminine. X- I have this image of you as a serious, no-nonesense girl with straight shoulder-length hair and glasses. I always imagined Kool-kat and Sue to have shortish hair...I dont know why. I imagined Raula and Nefertiti to both be very tall and super-pretty. Khayr...tall and bearded. UD...Very tall and skinny with specs. NGONGE...average height, fair-skinned, receding hairline too I imagine Gediid to be a knockout. Everytime I see a post by Legend of Zu, waxaa ii sawirma odey yaroo shiine ah.
  5. ^ Live long enough and you will come across everything!
  6. ^ Weyna kaa! I always suspected Khayr was on a hunting mission and now I have been proved right! Damsel, Run like the wind dear girl. You don't want to go there!
  7. ^^ You worry me sometimes. Cosmetic surgery is like soo fab. I mean, how else am I suppose to look like Barbie? She is my hero! See, I already have my hair bleached, so I just need to get long extensions next. Am also gonna have a boob job, two ribs removed to get B's famed tiny waist, and my legs elongated. Am soo excited! Am gonna be like the first black barbie!! Istaakhfurulaah...
  8. Kix kix kix kix...this is the funniest thing I have seen all day! Gotti..married ppl also have views, opinions and interests. Duh!
  9. LoL @ u ^ EXPECTATIONS, EXPECTATIONS, EXPECTATIONS!
  10. It's sad when children make their parents take care of their kids, you need to be there to see your child grow, not your mom. Where is the joy of having a kid when your mom is raising the kid for you. Raxmah, Some mothers dont have a choice, especially those who are raising their children alone (single mothers). In order for them to provide for their families, they have to earn an income because lets face it, benefits dont stretch to much and some people prefer to work rather than claim. Its not an ideal situation, I am sure most mums' would love to spend all their time with their children but circumstances prevent it for some. There are some superp working mothers out there (and I admire them greatly) who manage to bring up well-rounded children. A working mother isn't necessarily a bad mother.
  11. Shoobaro, How do we do this? It could be because we are taught early on the importance of caring for ourselves, our environment and those who need us. We are expected to be helpful, responsible, resourceful, and intelligent from a young age. You guys are just expected to.......um....err....eat. As for your inability to cook, you have no one to blame but yourself. I think your wife is being rather nice to you. If that was me, I would have just gotten myself some fish and chips from the local shop, eaten it, taken a long bath and gone to sleep. There should be boot-camps to teach useless faaraxs some basic skills...like cooking, cleaning and doing your own laundry.
  12. LoL @ ^^ I wonder how being the guardian/head of the household stops a husband from cooking or helping his wife with the chores? The two are mutually exclusive to you miyaa? You have a lot to learn about life Khayroow, and especially about women if you want to enjoy a long, happy marriage. Maybe you should talk to some of the married brothers in here before you tie the knot hadaadan rabin in bac madow dibada laguugu tuuro adna lagaa dabo geeyo soon after getting hitched.
  13. ^^ Howdy sweets. Day care centres? LoL...you girls should watch a BBC1 programme made about what really happens in nurseries. 18 months old babies were being verbally abused or neglected in private nurseries where parents were paying an arm and a leg to have their children looked after properly. I know you cant keep your child at home indefinitely because young children need to develop their social skills (interacting, playing and sharing with other children), but most experts believe its important for one of the parents (preferably the mother) to stay around for the child in the first 3-5 years (their most formative years). On the other hand, being at home wont do anything for your child if your not meeting his/her developmental milestones. As well as looking after them physically, you've got to keep on top of their mental, emotional and creative development too. From my experience, some Somali mothers seem to think that they only need to give birth, feed and cloth their children. But there's a lot more to it. From a personal perspective, having watched my nephew grow up (he's 3 and a half now and soon to start nursery full-time) and having read articles and books on Early Years Development and Child Psychology, I will definitely be staying at home for the first 3-4 years of the child's life, Insha'Allah. Considering how the world is today and especially how our society is, I dare say our children need every single advantage they can get in order to grow up into well-balanced, productive adults and the biggest advantage they can have is to be brought up in a secure, supportive and stimulating environment. Plus, I get the feeling that I could educate them better than any damn nursery...with the right resources of course.

Si kale ugama lug baxaysid...tis the only fun they have. Qac, p.s. i agree with boolbaro is no point arguing with sisters... with all due respect. OK! that did for me! Aeryan Sun! from no, i have changed your name to CANBARO! LoL...there's nothing wrong with Canbaro...matter of fact its my grandmother's name. So u can call me canbaro if you want, but I shan't have anything to do with ilma-baro. I value my life thank you very much! Shoobaro, If you change your name I will give you a fiver. How about it?
  22. Good news. Strong, independent higher education institutions will have a huge impact on the political, social and economic development of our people. Samuria, I agree that pooling resources and putting more money into existing universities would have a better impact on the quality of education provided than creating new universities. Then again, I have never been one to say no to increasing the number of education-providers anywhere. So am happy either way. Sophist, You have exceptional networking and interpersonal skills. I have no doubt, whatsoever, that you'll make a success of anything you put your mind to. Insha Allah.
