Norf: LoL..Luv the optimism. Live8 was less about collecting hand-outs for Africa and more about raising awareness - of the abject poverty people live in; of the dozens of disease epidemics currently holding the continent in its grip; of the mortifyingly high rate of infant deaths; of the starvation of so many people when so much food is produced and wasted in richer countries; of the hopelessness, pain and oppression affecting millions of people; of the simplicity of the solutions - Debt cancellation, fair terms of trade, arms embargos on highly volatile states and the free exchange of knowledge (technical, scientific..etc). Has Live8 done the job they set out to do? Yes, because billions of people took part in or watched the events. A lot more people are now aware of the struggles of Africa and the role the international community has had in those struggles. Can the G8 do something about these issues? Yes. Will they? Possibly not. Is the tide changing? I think so. Contrary to popular belief, Africans aren't helpless or passive to their circumstances. The largest investers in Africa, the most hardened and irrepressible activists and the main agents of change are ALL AFRICANS. The African Diaspora is the biggest donor to Africa, sending billions of Dollars back home every year. Those campaigning and facilitating for change at a grassroots level are Africans. Those risking their lives at the forefront, fighting for transparent and clean political processes and good governance are AFRICANS. Africa is dynamic, resilient and blessed with untold riches (which, unfortunately, are being pilfered at an alarming rate). Yes, it has been plagued by conflict, disease, corruption and lack of economic growth; and yes these are major blows, but she'll recover. She's strong and so are her people.

Nomadic_Princess: You have no idea how awfully tragic it felt. I went there JUST to see them. Even sadder, I was already in Hyde park, walking towards the concert area (half-a-bloody-mile away), when I heard Chris Martin's dulcet tones--my heart almost fell out of my chest. I was utterly gutted. P.S i saw some hijabified somali looking chick distantly in the crowd perhaps it was you?. LoL, probably not. Strangely enough, I strongly believe that my doppelgänger was there, 'cause I looked up at one point and saw myself screaming and jumping up and down on the big screen, only to realise, NO it wasn't me (I wasn't screaming OR jumping, I was actually sitting down). It looked like me, it was even dressed like me, but IT WASN'T ME. How completely mindboggling is that?

I use my GHD Ceramic Straightener if I desire the sleek-straight look. It works really well.

Married men earn more if wives do the chores-study

Originally posted by Hibo: It is tru if the wife stayed at home, and the husband worked believe me he earns more. Not in the sense that there will be more zeros added to his salary, but the barak of the whole thing. I have a friend of mine. He got married when he didn't want to, saying that he wasn't established well enough to provide for his family. He earned just $2500 per month. That wasn't enough. Guess wat?? When he married his wife, he says he has been saving more than he had as a bachelor. Plus, if my husband tell me, Hibo I will feed u, cloth you, and baby treat you well if u just stay at home... I would man. 2 hrs of labor for an 8 hrs pay. Hell i will take it. [/QB] Well done Hibo. I'm sure you've brightened many a faaraxs day. -
Plus Adopting is against our religion...for those of you who didn't know...!! ....but if not then you can't adopt them and give them you're name tell your cousin not to them adopt from north america then Sofine, what on earth are you yammering on about? There's nothing wrong with adopting, as long as the child keeps their own name as Najma already clarified. What exactly is so difficult about letting them keep their name that it would stop anyone from adopting a child they want? Really, I truly loathe ppl who try to play fast and loose with diinta. But in America the parents that adopt have to give them their last name.. Stpaulchick, They dont 'have' to. It's usually upto the adoptive parents what name they give the child. Some parents let the child keep their previous name (usually if the child is older), others like to hide the fact that the child isnt biologically theirs and give it their name. Either way, I think adopting is a very rewarding thing to do and if your cousin wants to adopt, then thumbs up to her. God bless her.

"a platonic friend is like a d!ck in a glass. In case of an emergency -- you break the glass." Charmingly put. Platonic friendships suit those who understand and accept the limitations of such relationships, I think.

One way of getting around that problem is not to tape ur events at all. I have actually never seen the point (oh I know know...for reminiscence purposes, but that alone doesn't seem to be a good enough reason..photos should be enough). Whenever I watch back any of my uncles/aunts' wedding tapes, I cringe with embarrasment. Some things are not worth saving. If I have a party or a wedding (long shot, but go with it ), I would want it to be for just that moment in time, just for that day...saved only in the memories of the participants and not on a video or a DVD. But if that isn't practical, then Bambina's suggestion is a good one. More women should definitely get into the photography/videoing market. They would make a neat profit.

Sisters seriously do you sometimes just wake up mad at everyone and everything irritates the hell out of you? Frequently. Take today for example...its incredibly hot and stuffy and neither the air-conditioner (yes, apparently we do have one) nor fans are doing anything to lessen the heat. I have a mountain of emails and phone messages still to go through, my boss is pretty unhappy with me and I seem to have misplaced my oyster card. But the pièce de résistance is not being able to walk because my new shoes (so beautiful, yet so painful) have been busy slicing my feet into pieces! Really. I Shouldn't have bothered to get out of bed this morning. On the plus side, its amazingly sunny, Wimbledon is back on (I luv tennis) and I'm going to be away all day tomorrow Insha'Allah. (See? It helps to balance things..well..its suppose to anyway).

What the dude said was: "No difference whatsoever. No traits of Somaliness. She cautiously answered my question looking at me with scary eyes and totally not anything like a Maali. I didn't want to start any conversation as I saw her condition." It doesnt sound like 'ISMACNEES' to me. She answered his questions. He just didn't like the 'scared look' in her eyes (whatever that means). He seems to be upset that she didn't respond happily enough to the fact that he is a Somali and, therefore, 'different' to any other stranger that may have approached her. Anyway Afro, aniguba waan ku huruufi lahaa hadaad isku deydo inaad ilahadasho. -
