  1. Conspiracy, glad ur ok too. Good to know that those nomads are fine. But I'm wondering about Thierry? Has anyone heard from him? I haven't been able to get through to him on his phone.
  2. ^ Amiin. God, how awful. Diamante, I hope you recover quickly. Ilaahay caafimaad ha ku siiyo.
  3. Also, some of the Londoners who post in the politics section (General Duke, Ayoub-Sheikh, Viking?) haven't checked in. Please post and let us know ur OK. Sophist is fine, alhamdulilaah, I know that much.
  4. We all have our own thoughts on this. The Iraq/Afghanistan war enraged every Muslim and a lot of non-Muslims in its unjustness. However, I think we are mixing things here. WHO carried out these bombings? And HOW did blasting innocents in London help those Palestinians under Israel's thumb or the Iraqis? If they haven't helped anyone in the Middle East, and if they haven't helped any Muslims in the West....WHY are we trying to defend and justify their actions under the guise of 'concern' for our Muslim brothers and sisters elsewhere? Every single terrorist act that has been carried out so far has DAMAGED MUSLIMS MORE THAN ANY WAR IN IRAQ OR AFGHANISTAN COULD because it has affected the lives of the WHOLE UMMAH (and not just 2 countries). What sort of Muslims would hurt their own people? WHY ARE WE LETTING COLD-BLOODED KILLERS COMMIT ATTROCITIES IN THE NAME OF ISLAM? WHY ARE WE LETTING THEM KILL IN OUR NAME? I despair.
  5. Much thanks to all the Non-Londoners for their concern. Juma, do you still live in my neck of the woods? If so, it should be ok from Victoria. Animal Farm, thank you. Rahima, I know, it will only get worse. Athena, Still haven't figured out how am going to get home. Which hospital is your mum at? And safe journey home to you and everyone else, Insha'Allah.
  6. I'm sure they are fine, Afro... The telephone/mobile networks are just pretty jammed. Insha'Allah Khayr.
  7. Rahima and Sue, I completely agree. The consequences are going to be very serious for the Muslim community. I dread to think how serious. Already, the 'us' and 'them' rhetoric has started in my office. Sky, Paddington itself is fine. The blasts were inside the tube and stations (except for the bus blast, which happened in Tavistock Square).
  8. Let us not get carried away now. The people that carry out these bombing don't give a sh!t about Muslims. Not you, not me and not anyone else. How many Muslims commute everyday? I bet half of the injured probably are Muslims. Also, if we talk about bombings in Baghdad, how many have there been so far? Ever other day something is blown up, and every other day the only people killed are Iraqis. Now, tell me...who are these bombers fighting for? Who are they helping? Surely not the Iraqis and definitely not the Muslims, because those are the people they hurt the most. They are as misguided as the so-called defenders of freedom and democracy.
  9. Athena, Yeah, I noticed. But all those stations serve the City of London too. As for 'Al-Qaeda' claiming responsibility, thats pretty much expected, isn't it? Someone sneezes and an 'Al-Qaeda' plonker somewhere claims responsibilty. Just makes Muslim lives' that much harder. Like we don't have enough problems as it is.
  10. yeah, its pretty frightening. I never thought this would happen to London. Ever. DEATHS IN TERROR ATTACKS A number of people have been killed and dozens injured in a large-scale terrorist attack on London. At least six bomb blasts have been reported in locations across the city on buses and Tube stations. Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Ian Blair said there was evidence of explosives at at least one of the six sites. Scotland Yard has denied reports they were warned of an attack by Israel minutes before the blasts. Two people have been confirmed dead and at least 90 people injured in the explosion at Aldgate Station. Prime Minister Tony Blair is returning to London from the G8 Summit in Scotland. He said: "It's particularly barbaric that these attacks are designed to coincide with the G8 summit. "It's important however that those engaged in terrorism realise that our determination to defend our values and way of life is greater than their determination to cause death and destruction to innocent people." Sky News Nom Prin, Thanks, they are both fine Alhamdulilaah. Only thing is one is stranded in Wimbledon, the other in Stratford and I am stuck in Wembley. We've all been told we can go home...but...there's no where to go and no way to get there. Yikes. On a side note, did anyone else notice how similar Tony Blair's speech sounded to something Bush would say? 'terrorists', 'extremists', 'civilised countries', 'to defend our values and way of life'...etc? Some of my co-workers reckon the blasts had less to do with the G8 (if that was the case, the blasts would have gone off yesterday) and more to do with London winning the Olympic bid...they theorise that something like this was prolly in place in Paris too, and may have gone off if they had won it. Hmmm...maybe Paris should have gotten it.
  11. 6 confirmed blasts, 90 ppl injured and 20 dead so far. I can't get through to anyone on their mobiles and neither my sister nor cousin have reported in yet. I'm getting really worried now.
  12. Ngonge & Athena, Glad ur OK too. Excuse me while I call everyone else.
  13. Norf...ooh right, you're working in Euston. Gotcha. How mad does it look out there? First I heard it was a power surge affecting just the tube...then I hear 3 buses have also exploded. How am I gonna get home caawa?
  14. ^ Norf...go home. You're not going to get to work if you're still in Euston at this time. The whole London Underground network has been closed down until further notice. And to think I was pissed coz my over-ground train was delayed for 20 minutes. Good thing I didn't bother with the Bakerloo line. -----> Several hurt in Tube 'explosion' Several people have been injured after explosions blamed on a power surge led to the whole London Underground network being closed down until further notice. British Transport Police said some of the power surges had caused explosions. A City of London Police spokesman said there were "quite a large number of casualties" at Aldgate Station. A bus was ripped apart in an explosion in central London, an eyewitness told news agency PA, and there were reports of at least one fatality. PA also quoted Union officials as saying sources had told them there had been at least one explosive device on the Underground. British Transport Police Surges took place at Aldgate, Edgware Road, King's Cross, Old Street and Russell Square stations. Scotland Yard confirmed they were assisting with a "major incident" and said there were casualties. A spokesman said officers were called out to Aldgate station at 8.50am to assist City of London and British Transport Police. "All of the emergency services are on scene. There have been some casualties. This has been declared as a major incident," said the spokesman. "It's too early to state what has happened at this stage," he said. The National Grid, which supplies power to the Underground, said there had been no problems with its system which could have contributed to the incidents. Jacqui Head, from BBC News, who had just left King's Cross station on a Piccadilly Line train as an explosion happened, said: "Everything was normal. Suddenly there was a massive bang, the train jolted. "There was immediately smoke everywhere and it was hot and everybody panicked. People started screaming and crying." The train was kept in the tunnel for 20 minutes and no announcement was made to explain the delay to passengers, she added. London Fire Brigade said four crews were at Liverpool Street and more were on their way. Another passenger, who had left the Tube at Fenchurch Street Station, and walked to Aldgate East, told BBC Five Live that he saw injured people. "As I walked through the bus station I could see people lying on the ground, black, as if they'd been covered in smoke. There were about three or four people on the floor being treated." Eyewitness Paul Woloszyn from BBC News, who was at Blackhorse Road station on the Victoria Line, said: "We were told there was a bomb at Liverpool Street station. "I was on the Tube, and they stopped the train and told everyone to get off and evacuate the station." He said staff had said the entire Tube network had been affected, and leaflets had been handed out with details of alternative bus routes. Another eyewitness, Dorothy Molloy, had been on a Tube train at King's Cross and said "staff just chucked everyone out of the station". She said staff there had not given any details, but she said two passengers she had spoken to had said they had received messages saying there had been bombs. "People didn't really know what was going on, they were just huffing and puffing and saying how annoying it was," she said. "People don't seem to be panicked, but there's so many police and ambulances coming into the areas. People are just concerned, and some are just annoyed at the delay." -------- "PA also quoted Union officials as saying sources had told them there had been at least one explosive device on the Underground." Explosive device?

(Most souls won't loan you $100,000 and its a struggle and half trying to save $20 from one paycheque let alone $100,000) 3) If you have Bad Credit, you really can't RENT in most cases or get these 'HALAL MORTGAGES' that have Ridicilous Requirements. So What is the alternative for people with BAD CREDIT and MASSIVE STUDENT LOANS? Fi Amanillah What are you saying, Khayr?
  16. ^ Poo hoo...sour grapes is all. Do you have some French cousins or something? Athena, LoL..yeah..hard to imagine eh? Us in our 30s... Ali I know..everyone was hoping London would win it, but actually expected Paris to get it. Anyway, who cares, eh? We won! At least East London will get a face-list. They so need it...
  17. I know I know I know!!!! We all gathered in the conference room to watch it being announced on TV...and I swear I started screaming before the man even said it. Don't ask. I get easily excited these days. Fantastic news!

^ Radiohead and Oasis are great bands. If you're into them...then you might like some of the other groups mentioned in this thread. Nom_Prin & Xu, Yeah, its good to know am not the only 'white-music lover' in here. I have to admit that when I went off RnB and Hip-hop, I pretty much stopped listening to music. Then my sister went off to university in Wales, and being in an all-white uni in an all-white town, she became immersed in the alternative/indie music scene and has managed to get the rest of us hooked too. I'm pretty jealous of her actually since she got to see Kosheen and the Lost Prophets playing live. I never manage to get any tickets for any gigs (they always run-out before I have even picked up the phone...how bizarre is that?). OH MY GOD.... LONDON HAS WON!!!! It's just been announced...The 2012 Olympics are going to be held in our beautiful city! YeeeeeeeeeY!
  19. I believe Asian Muslims have their own system for buying properties - they all buy their properties pretty early on, which is great because having a secure home for your family is almost as important as putting food on the table (renting is a dodgy venture and hardly good value for your money). I think they use a network of family and friends who put up the total amount, the house is bought, and then the money paid back in bundles within the next 10 years...or something like that. Also parents put aside some money to help their kids get on the property ladder later on (another brilliant idea). A good system I think, but it probably won't work for Somalis. Getting back a borrowed £20 is a hassle, let alone a borrowed £20,000. But I guess it depends on the families...and the friends.

The both rocked on Saturday.
  24. JB, LoL. Your advice should come with a 'Hazardous to your health' type of warning.
  25. If I remember correctly, the last wedding I went to was in August of 2002 (a friend of a friend's). But it doesn't sound like much has changed since. Isn't it unusual that you hardly ever see anyone raving about how good a wedding they went to was? It's always complaints and criticisms. Makes me wonder why anyone bothers.
