  1. Race, I am sure, is one of many factors leading to the shambolic response we have seen in the last two weeks. It could, however, become the main issue to come out of this disaster. I await the Government Inquiry Report. Would luv to see who gets blamed.
  2. LoL @ Xiin. A bit underhanded, but I like your style of arguing. Not that it validates the issue of contention here. These 'manly' attributes u keep mentioning, which are supposedly unique to the man-animal, are a bit vague. Perhaps you should clarify them first. (And please don't say courage or leadership, coz that will just make me giggle). NGONGE, Now who is being a silly boy? (Take note of the use of 'boy').
  3. ^ You see there? I am a girl, therefore I can be a silly girl. But you would be wrong to term a silly man a girl. A man can't be and shouldn't be referred to as a girl (as an insult). It's not insulting to be a girl. Capiche? Fix up Mr!

The problem is far deeper than the sayids words; we need a revolution of thinking in Somali culture-the question then naturally becomes who is willing to fight? We need more than a revolution, Rahima. We need a massacre. But I do believe the tide is turning. Can you not hear the howling in the wind?
  5. History is full of manly-men that were really nothing but a bunch of girls. Again, I take offence at the implication. A weak man is not a girl. A silly man is not a girl. To be a girl isn't to be weak and silly.
  6. Originally posted by Rahima: Seemingly according to this article and the views of some nomads, to be considered a mans man one has to be almost Neanderthal like and qualities such as kindness, compassion and sympathy are shunned upon, seen as weak and feminine. These are all qualities which one should espouse to and for those of you who are somewhat religiously inclined would know are qualities favourably mentioned by our blessed prophet and he himself had. I agree, dear. Certainly men and women are physiologically different. There is no argument about that. Physical differences and biological roles, however, differ from 'gender' roles. Gender roles are wholly invented, assigned and influenced by cultural/societal values. Neither sex has a God-given right to any of the above-mentioned attributes. Allah has given both men and women the capacity to have them and to use them. Therefore, it seems beyond ridiculous to appropriate any of these clearly unisex and universally-appealling qualities and confine them to the one gender or the other. How narrow-minded. Women can be and often ARE heroic, courageous, predatory and violent as well as kind and empathetic. Men can be and often are considerate, loving and emotional as well as hard, rugged and cold. In this day and age, it seems silly to expect us to bemoan the loss of something which has long been dead...the manly-man. If he ever existed in the first place. You can blame your male ancestors for leading you up the garden path so well. What a cruel Joke.

  9. Shyhem, Someone who shares your surname, did you say? I think I have heard that before.
  10. O' ye, do let us lament the decline of man. Those goddamned feminists! ' Manliness...What a quaint litte term. I think the article is nothing but a howl at the moon (wolves have always been very manly). Khayr, I can't seem to make sense of your post. But that's nothing new.
  11. Stoic, enjoy it then. Foxy, yeah. Someone is late almost everyday due to transport problems. It's the norm. Plus, there's nothing great about the UK's Transport system. It's antiquated and expensive. Third World countries run better services. I will probably meet my maker while travelling on one of those contraptions.
  12. Foxy, I would have had a perfectly good day if I hadn't needed to rely on our lovely trains. Would you believe it I was at the station at 7.30 on the dot this morning, but I managed to get to work at 9.45? Now, what's that then? Eh? I could have walked faster. Then again, at least I wasn't molested. Sheh, good for you. Stoic, what holiday are you enjoying?
