The statements you quoted from my piece sound a bit general (not every secularly educated sister does those things and not every religiously oriented sister does those things either), I concur. But your short comments make me wonder if you are ready to accept partial blame for this. Do you see where we failed or culture is the only villain here? Commo’n, sister do more and don’t leave us in the darkness as what your take on this (that you are partially responsible for this deficit) is. To be honest, I had no intention of contributing. This topic si wacan baan uga daalay. But your promise of an analysis drew me in, and after you responded, I felt I had to post my disappointment. I already kinda knew what everyone's response would be (I guess I have been here a long time)...but you're new here and I havent seen you posting anything on female issues before.

There's no shortage of labels for sisters.

Oh yes, my good brother...I have definitely come over to the dark- erm...I mean right- side. I now know a woman's rightful position is more horizontal than vertical. It took a Faarax to make me see the truth. God bless him.

My...how time flies. It's already October. 2005 is almost over! Just a week and a half to go, I'A! Ramadan Kariim to one and all.

I have been telling you that for some time, Johhny Boy. You need to get rid of the blonde quiff. It's so 2001.

Thumbs up to all the new recruits.

Sayed was called son of a dog and any poems composed to refute that cheap shot was somewhat justified. Here Castro has done nothing except his usual wishy-washy posts to entertain himself and others like him at the expense of our convictions. Baashi...I thought u were being sincere in your intervention until the last bit of your post caught my attention. Giveth with one hand and taketh away with the other.

^ Not any longer. I am under strict doctor's orders to stay off anything fizzy or acidic. I have been clean for a month now. Five things I miss:- Pepsi, Pepsi, Pepsi, Pepsi and Pepsi!

I will, Insha Allah , attempt to answer those questions of mine. If I am not misreading your piece, you are looking for solutions to come from within. From that angle my analysis shall emanate and on it my examination shall rest. The above quote gave me hope that I may finally hear a different tune to the usual orchestral mess. Then Xiin went and pissed on my hope. What a shame. Those who got secular education tend to develop identity crises. They tend to sing and hum with the popular songs. Hijaab becomes no longer their style. Aha. You also need not to exaggerate and inflate the problems that you are facing. In the society we come from, women are not oppressed . In the urban centers women do have the opportunity and some choose to take it and some not. In the rural areas one would always expect some disparity would exist due to the primitive and harsh lifestyle and the lack of the reach of law. So I am not quite sure what you mean ‘basic rights taken away from them’. Is it a widespread phenomenon that most Muslim women have to face? Or is it an isolated incident? Perhaps you should do some research (even a teeny little bit would be enough) before attempting to analyse the issue. And in the domain of decision-making , women have a role . They really do. You do it every day. Your mom did it . This is by far my favourite. Can I ask for some clarification on what this role entails?

That's a totally awesome list Jamarel. It even makes me feel like going a step further and making like a doormat when he gets home so he can wipe his shoes on my pretty dirac.

Five reasons why I hate my job:- 5) The endless meetings. Spending half a day in meetings does not give you much time to do anything else. 4) 1 person. 8 working hours (on average). A billion tasks. The figures don't compute. 3) Walking 20 minutes through a deserted park every morning and evening. 2) The long commute. Takes 1.5-2hrs on average to get to work, inclusive of 3 train changes. 1) Salary. I am not even paid close to what I should be earning for the amount of work I do. Five reason why I love it:- 5) My desk. It's huge. 4) Dynamic work. I usually get my pick of projects to work on. 3) Experience. There's so much variety! I am continually gaining a high level of experience which should come in very handy in the future. I'A. 2) Flexibility. I get to come in and leave when I please (as long as I do my core hours). 1) Training and Development. We have a large budget for employee development, which basically means that I get to go on as many training courses as I can find. Continually developing new skills while maintaining your existing ones should be the most important aspect of any job.

I can't seem to get Nancy Sinatra out of my head... I was five and he was six We rode on horses made of sticks He wore black and I wore white He would always win the fight Bang bang, he shot me down Bang bang, I hit the ground Bang bang, that awful sound Bang bang, my baby shot me down. Seasons came and changed the time When I grew up, I called him mine He would always laugh and say "Remember when we used to play?" Bang bang, I shot you down Bang bang, you hit the ground Bang bang, that awful sound Bang bang, I used to shoot you down. Music played, and people sang Just for me, the church bells rang. Now he's gone, I don't know why And till this day, sometimes I cry He didn't even say goodbye He didn't take the time to lie. Bang bang, he shot me down Bang bang, I hit the ground Bang bang, that awful sound Bang bang, my baby shot me down... Oh sorry...you were saying something about cricket? Or was it baseball?

Five perfect moments: 5) Catching the train on time 4) Curling up on the couch and watching a DVD during a boring Sunday. 3) Purchasing a perfect pair of shoes. 2) Dining in a lovely restaurant on a warm, balmy evening. 1) Laughing hysterically with a loved one.

It looks nice.

Niiko is a base act/dance.

LoL. NG....apparently, you haven't been to a Somali party for a good while (wot, 10yrs? 20? C'mon!). Last I knew, there wasn't much difference between bona fide clubbing (without faaraxs trying to molest you) and 'somali' clubbing (with faaraxs definitely molesting you... "wot xaliimo..u think you are too good for a brotha? biatch...u'll prolly give it up to me in a blink if I was an adoon..blah blah blah" - goddamed saqajaamiin  ). Like anything else, the three rules of partying at Somali dens is 1)wear as little as possible, 2)put your nose up in the air as much as possible, 3)know your niiko/whining. England Girl, Leicester Square is probably the best place to explore if you're into the clubbing scene.
