You are looking for a Somali Hero? Open your eyes and look around. The average Somali is more of a hero than any political/religious figure you could come up with. Those who have survived the traumatic atrocities of the war and who went on to prosper are heroes. The women and girls who were practically eaten up and destroyed in African Refugee camps, but who lived through it and carried on with their lives are heroes. Those who died protecting their families are heroes. Those and more are my heroes. Maybe you should broaden your criteria of what makes a hero. A 'unifying' figure is far too vague.

Trust you to believe that. You may enjoy wallowing in ignorance, but others have a right to fully understand their religion (if only to make sure that they aren't misled by stooges like you). Naden, I agree with those that say you'll not find satisfactory answers from anyone in here.

I picked Ahura at random, much like Aeronwen and Zephyrine. Velvet Revolution, Aeryn Sun and Disillusioned-N-Despondent were character handles. I think only Barwaaqo had any meaning, but she died. RIP.

Norf: LoL @ Didn't get easter tho. You had a 3-day week! What more could you possibly want? Greedy. Lily: I naturally look forward to Fridays. Such a nice feeling knowing you have two whole days away from work. But I know what you mean; I often eat out with friends on Friday nights. I must say, I'm really looking forward to summer, I'A.

Oral Contraceptives declared carcinogenic by World Health Organization

^ Interesting. Seems like there's a new health scare surrounding the pill every few months. Then again, there seems to be a health scare about anything and everything these days. Just the other month, I was reading about new cancer-causing properties found in crisps. -
LoL...Goodness gracious me! Stop ganging up on the poor girl. Nameless, forget the losers and carry on with your diary entries.

Stoic, Ahura, I agree with you.Inside Man is a great movie. One of the best Spike Lee movies I must say. I can't say I'm much of a fan of Lee's films. But I greatly enjoyed Inside Man. Paradise Now, eh? Haven't seen any trailers for that as yet (I wonder if it's out in our neck of the woods?). Will keep an eye out, thanks.

I know it's not a Wednesday, but it aint a Monday either! I wonder if we should set up a new thread for Tuesdays? No? Alright then. Anyway, did everyone have a good break? Mine was excellent, thanks. First day back and I feel super refreshed. Gorgeous weather to boot as well! Sheh, don't glower at me! You should be grateful for a little cheery sunshine among this drudgery.

I saw Inside Man earlier tonight. Fantastic film. Would recommend it -> ****

Nur, I'm afraid you still have it wrong. But that hardly matters. Whatever you are selling, am just not buying. Sorry.

Nur, You've got the wrong end of the stick here. Perhaps you should go back and re-read my original post (helpfully quoted below for you) and try to figure out who, and not what, I was mocking before trying to save me by throwing me to the killer sharks. Ha ha...what a good joke. *Chuckles* Now I remember why I decided to stop getting involved in these topics.

^ Ditto. Ib: Insha'Allah Kheyr. Go and enjoy it all. Keep a journal and take loads of pictures. You can turn it into a book for your kids later. Oh and set up a blog as well.

Originally posted by Nur: Ahura Fiath matters are not to be taken as a joke, if you are not Muslim, it would be advisable that you respect the faith, if you are, with such statments as to mock islamic rulings of Waliyy for the women, then I suggest that you take a good look of your choices, Islam is surrender, its indeed slavery, not to fellow man, but to Allah. Womens place in Islam is set by Quraan and Sunnah, if you have any evidence to show that the idea of Mahram is laughable, please share, but save your self the trouble of living in the middle, you can judge Islam from the prespective of people without a definite purpose in life except for laughing and having fun. Nur Am I to take it that you drew all those assumptions from my amusement at the outraged fella's post? LoL... I often thank Allah that I learned Diinta way before I started interacting with Muslims. As you were, dear. [edit] Ahura Matters of faith are not to be taken as a joke, if you are not Muslim, I can understand, however it would be advisable that you respect the faith, if you believe that you are a Muslim, with such statments as to mock islamic rulings of Waliyy and Mahram for the women, then I suggest that you take a good look of your choices, you may be in for a surprise after you die, it was reported that men who made a mockery about Muslim Quraan readers by saying that they have big bellies and are not good in fighting, where declared Kuffar by Allah " Do not apologise, You have turned kuffar after your iman" Islam is surrender to a higher authority, more powerful than authorities you live under who can pass any law they like regardless of what you like, Islam is also a form of slavery, men and women are slaves for Allah, by choice that is, not to fellow man though or to fashion designers, but to Allah alone, , Womens place in Islam is set by Quraan and Sunnah, Its mainly home related and child rearing, if you have any evidence to the opposite and that the idea of Mahram is laughable, please share with us, but save your self the trouble of living on the edge, I assure you that you can laugh now, or you can laugh later, but not both times. Nur *Sigh* It's difficult not to be offended by your tactics, Nur. But I will resist anyway.

^ Well yeah, I suppose most ppl would have the same reaction. LoL. How thought-out is this trip? Do you have the money already or do you plan to work as you travel? How long do you expect it to last and what, exactly, will your route be? About the ticket, are you likely to get your money back if u cancel? Details, woman. Details!
-
You don't want to hear what I think...but you will anyway! Backpacking by yourself will get you killed. Have you not been reading the newspapers? Do you know how many backpackers have been raped and murdered in South East Asia and Australia in the last 2 years? And most were travelling with their friends and in grps! Latin America is just as bad and I can only imagine what might happen to you in North Africa. What's wrong with a resort holiday? City breaks? Why must you rough it? Why? Grrr...If you were my sister, I would beat you up and then lock you up. Ok ok, maybe I wouldn't... See, I told you you wouldn't like what I had to say. Adventures are good and travelling will broaden your horizons and give you some great experiences, but...u need to keep your safety in mind. Btw...am very jealous. PS: If you already booked the ticket, what's the point of asking for advice? You just want to give ppl a hard time, eh? Cruel girl. PPS: Majority of travellers not only make it back, but they find it an extraordinarily valuable experience. And lots of fun of course.

^ Yeah, imagine not mentioning sangria, eh? N-A, obviously.

^ Hello you. I'm glad to see you back! Good luck with the backpacking (and don't forget your black cimaamad!) Back to topic: Summer holidays, eh? Nice to have that much time off. *Sigh*

There are different types and levels of friendship. I firmly believe strong friendships can and often do exist between men and women. In friendships, as with everything else, you only get back what you've put in.

Traditional Mali music sounds remarkably similar to Somali qaraami, don't you think? I can't say I'm a big fan, but I had the fortunate luck to hear some lovely Mali music on TV (Later with Jools Holland- BBC2).

They see you as clever, gifted, or talented, but modest. Not a person who makes friends too quickly or easily, but someone who's extremely loyal to friends you do make and who expect the same loyalty in return. Those who really get to know you realize it takes a lot to shake your trust in your friends, but equally that it takes you a long time to get over it if that trust is ever broken.
