^ LoL, paranoia or what? Angy, which two might you be referring to?

History Matters. Pass it on. Alex Redman, Warwickshire 18 October 2006 Today I realised that I had nothing to offer society, that I was washed up and may as well be dead. I'm 40 and cant find work as a university lecturer. I've had 30 interviews in two years and have either been over qualified or too expensive or caught up in the politics of departments. I am always commended on my skills and performance, but never get the job. I used to think it would be easy to get work. I had all the qualifications, had published and was feted by students. I was bullied out of my job of 10 years by an ignorant man, but spent the last two years being depressed because of it. I often wonder if it is my fault that I cant get a job. Maybe I am worthless, maybe I am no good at my chosen career. I tried to fill in another application form today, but realised half way through that I was grasping at straws and the post was unsuitable, being in administration and not teaching. I dont have experience in administration, only teaching. Yet I cant get a job in teaching. As time passes it gets harder as I havent written anything for a year or so. If I dont get published no one will think me worthy of employment, because its publications not teaching that counts in higher education today. I sit here in front of the only thing that gives me peace and watch the misery of others fill me with disdain for life. They may well be worse off than me, but they are not me. They dont have the time to contemplate suicide as they die, fight to live or insult each other - I do. I havent left the house for 72 hours. I dont see the point, there is nothing out there for me and no one who cares. I live inside my shell and hope for something good to happen. If I make something happen I'm afraid it will be bad. Depression is a bad thing; it stymies your ability to do things and eats away at the will to live. The only solution is to take prescribed drugs, but I dont wish to. I want to find a way through this, not fall into a sleep. If I cant find a way through, I hope for a way out. If anyone takes anything from this insignificant history, remember that in passing, you actually leave something behind. Living is being insignificant. Remember this; you are what you do, not who you are. Get work and be someone. How can I care about a world that has no care for me? This entry is one of the many thousands that people have uploaded onto a massive blog which aims to record people's activities and thoughts on an ordinary day (they chose yesterday, 17 October 2006 - but people can still upload posts until 30th of Oct) for future generations as part of a historical campaign. Of the many posts I have read (most detailing what people did from when they woke up to when they fell asleep), the above one caught my attention and sympathy.

^ Of course, I will. Once I've married her myself that is.

^ Maybe. But I think he's decided he doesn't want to wait another twenty years for a spanking new minyaro. I think the Misyar stuff has gone to his head. Cambarro, food cooked by other people always tastes great to me.
-
^ So you want to be taken out? Is that it? I'm suddenly getting a flashback of that Rum advert on TV where someone is smacking this poor bloke with a big fish and telling him 'you'll never be a fisherman'.

Em, what's wrong with Harlesden? NG, No I haven't heard of any new fabulous restaurant. Is there one in Harl? My colleagues keep asking me to take them to a Somali restaurant and I'm kinda tired of fobbing them off. And yes, our Serenity is gainfully employed again. Thank the good lord. Cambarro, the Village restaurant is aight.
-
Serenity, you haven't been working there a week and you're already moaning? Shame on you.

Oh I see. A license to shag. Anything to make life easier for the poor sods who can't maintain a family but who also want their piece of the cake.
-
LoL @ NG. And what might a 'Friend Marriage' involve? I'm puzzled.
-
Well, as long as it's only for a Green Card...

Originally posted by Northerner: Hmm, but can the woman 'agree' to waive rights given to her? Are those rights 'optional'? Ditto for the male. Good question. I too was wondering if the marital rights prescribed to women in the Qur'an should be so easily waived. And the Mullahs who endorse this practice, do they not consider the interests of women at all? Ever? I suppose it's pretty easy to roll over women's inherent rights when the lawmakers are strictly male.

Originally posted by Northerner: Val I think you have simplified the process. You mean choose a charity for people to funnel their money to instead of the process of collection and deposit right? Yeah, that's right. Once you've chosen the charity/charities you want, you contact them and they sign you up. Then you just need to let us know which ones to donate to and what reference to use. You need to hurry up though, or you might not be able to run for the charity you want.

Jack Straw would like to ask you to kindly remove your face veil...

^^ Gee, she is a bit dramatic, ain't she? It can't be that traumatic to put on a niqab for one day, surely? Altho I do believe the looks and wierd comments she got. LoL @ Ruth Kelly: The Equaliser. -
^ Belittling and judgemental, well done you.

‘Ethiopian Idols’: less glitz, same dreams
Valenteenah. replied to Libaax-Sankataabte's topic in General
LoL..most excellent. Fremantle, which own the global intellectual rights, said it does not want to force "Ethiopian Idols" off the air but does intend to charge a fee per episode. Boooo...! -
Norf, that's very impressive, but less than 3 months to train? Yikes. You can't really make your account details public, if you're using your personal account. There is an alternative but it might restrict the type of charity you can fundraise for. I used to work for a cancer charity and sponsors would usually send in cheques or pay by card directly to the charity on behalf of the runner/fundraiser. It's really easy because they only need to jot the name of the fundraiser on the cheque as a reference. Cash used to be sent in the same way, but I wouldn't recommend it. It would be a lot less hassle for you, if you were able to do it that way. In terms of which charities you could support, do you have any specific charities in mind? There are a lot of deserving ones out there and a few of the large charities have active programs and appeals running in the Horn of Africa. Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is a fantastic charity and they are active in Somalia. Islamic Relief is working with Somali victims of Famine in Mandera, Kenya and the Somali region in Ethiopia. Oxfam had several programmes running in Eastern Africa, some within Somalia, earlier this year. I'm not certain but I think the programmes are still active. The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies is also an excellent organisation and the Somali Red Crescent Society a most deserving one. The only problem is if you want to donate to the Bisha Cas, you have to do it by branch and region. I have been out of the field for a year and half now so I'm not up to date but I can do a bit more research if you need more specific info. I think it's fantastic of you to do this. Best of luck and you can count on my sponsorship.

I'm glad to see Zu has finally refuted the false allegations. Took a while, didn't it? The topic-starter should be ashamed of himself.
