  1. I've been following this story for some time. If both sides don't exercise restraint, it might lead to wider regional conflict and draw in third parties. I think the source of it all - the Hargeisa regime - needs to fix up its policies of animosity against all its Somali neighbors (Djibouti, Kilinka Shanaad, Puntland). Where is Somaliland planning to go with such hostile policies? Then, when push comes to shove, they know how to run their lips and blame everyone but themselves when, in reality, its they [Hargeisa regime] who started it all. Before men with clan affiliation to the Kilinka Shanaad were detained illegally and handed over to Ethiopian intelligence for long-term incarceration or execution, was there such bitter tribal animosity between these two Somali communities? I think not. To resolve a problem, we must address its source. The situation seems grim as the conflict is expanding, and clouds of war are hanging over the region, when the neo-fascist Faysal Ali Warabe joins the choir of war mongering and starts beating the drums for a full-blown tribal war. As leeches thrive on animal blood, Mr. Warabe has made a career out of fanning minor clan conflicts, Yet, not only is this neo-fascist allowed to speak publicly, but he's actually considered a "leader". How sad is that? Ina Cali Waraabe is by far the filthiest Somali politician in the post-91 era.
  2. Allah SWT, in the Noble Qur'an, says: "Ye shall certainly be tried and tested in your possessions and in your personal selves; and ye shall certainly Hear much that will grieve you, from those who received the Book before you and from those who worship many gods. But if ye persevere patiently, and guard against evil ,-then that will be a determining factor in all affairs." [3:186, Noble Qur'an] Muslims across the globe need to be patient. I remember a Muslim brother who phoned into NPR Public Radio the other day. He said that, because of this story, he was invited to give four public lectures on the Prophet Muhammad (scw) and his Message - which gives more non-Muslims access to the religion. Because of this story, more and more non-Muslims are investigating and trying to find out the truth about our Nabi Muhammad (scw). The Danes thought they were insulting Muslims. But their attempt backfired. Europe is terrified at the growing number of Muslims on the traditionally Christian continent and they don't know how to react. No man has the power to fight against Islam - the religion Allah SWT, in all his Infinite Wisdom, has bestowned upon the whole of mankind. They keep saying the Danes insulted "the Arabs" - an attempt to portray Islam as a religion for Arabs, when, in fact, Arabs form only a percentage. Also, the Muslim leaders - most of whom are hypocrites - are in a tight position. They can't tell the Muslim masses to "calm down" nor do they want to sever relations with the E.U. And as the Muslim Ummah gains strength, the grip on power by a few hypocrites gets weaker. Did Denmark want to ignite an Islamic revolution? Sooner or later, the anger that has now united Muslims will transform into anger against the current, hypocritical Muslim leadership, the cowards who've shunned Islam and who've made us Muslims - once the pride of the world - a weakened Ummah. Insults are only the beginning.
  3. ^^ Thanks for the post. Somalis needed to join the rest of the Muslim world in condemning Denmark - the source of it all. And the pictures are wonderful! p.s. According to SBC, a demonstration also took place in Garoowe.
  4. Hadaba Baroortu Orgigga ka wayin , ee waxaa jira warar hoosaad sheegaya in Madaxweyne C/llaahi Yuusuf iyo Dawladda Itoobiya uu soo kala dhexgalay qilaaf kaas oo ka dhashay Markii Wasiirka Arrimaha Dibadda ee Itoobiya uu yimi magaaladda Jowhar kadibna uu la galay shir soconayey Maalmo inkastoo uu jiray, Mr Geedi iyo Mr C/llaahi Yuusuf si looga dhaadhiciyo Madaxwenaha in uu Saxiixo Dukamenti ku saabsan sidii Soomaaliland loo siin lahaa Madax banaani ama Ogolaansho Gooni isu taagnimo iyadoo loo raadinayo aqbaliyad cod ah oo Baarlamnka la hordhigayo. Even by the standards of the Somalis' amateur journalistic skills, this article hits a new low. "Hadaba Baroortu Orgigga ka wayin" - who says that? Anyways, KASHANRE, I think the problem is between C/llahi Yusuf and Max'd Dheere (Geedi is maqaarsaar politician, after all). There's nothing wrong with political debate as long as it doesn't turn violent. Either way, Max'd Dheere and his protege, Geedi, aren't sure how to really respond to the Baydhabo conference. C/llahi Yusuf's reasons for going to Galkacyo are many, I'm sure. Among them: to transport militias and weaponry en route to Baydhabo (after all, the warlord neither trusts the RRA security structure nor Max'd Dheere's); secondly, he wants to help resolve the on-going debate for the Galkacyo District Council, which has stalled local governance in the region for months. Geedi and Max'd Dheere's responses to the Somaliland debate were surprising to me, but when I really thought about it, cidna kama degana dhulkaa, so they're unconcerned. I came to this conclusion because Max'd Dheere views South Muqdisho as an "occupied" part of dhulka cidiisa. The only surprise, then, is that he can't relate to the people of Sool and Sanaag, most of who don't believe in Somaliland's claims on their land. And as far as Ethiopia's designs on Somaliland, I think their foreign minister [seyoum] said it best: "Hargeisa knows for historical reasons that Ethiopia would be last to give recognition to Somaliland," Seyoum said. The irony here is, of course, Ethiopia's use of "historical reasons" reference to deny recognition to Somaliland. Conversely, the Hargeisa administration (and its cyber supporters) have used "historical reasons" to justify the borders of its imaginary state, which go as far as a few KM from Garoowe. Ethiopia's reference to "historical reasons", in this sense, is a mighty blow to the aspirations of a handful of extremists. p.s. C/llahi Yusuf can't "abandon" Ethiopia for political reasons in the same way he can't "abandon" the use of oxygen for livelihood reasons. p.s.s. Prof Ali Geedi dissed Reer Galkacyo by not showing up and landing in Jowhar instead. Does this remind anyone of the time Col Yeey made Reer Jowhar wait 9 hours for his arrival but landed in Djibouti instead?

  7. Originally posted by SeeKer: Does Islam need reform? No it doesn't. Islam is a religion for all human beings. Islam can function in harmony with any society and at any point in Time. If that was not the case, how come it wasn't "reformed" earlier? The issue with "reforming" Islam is that the West - in its efforts at total global domination - wants to export its values and culture into other societies, because, as G W Bush said in his State of of the Union address last night, the West has championed over other "evil" ideologies (Nazism, Communism) - and it will champion over "radical" Islam. To him, the "great challenge" of the 21st century is "radical" Islam. HIV/AIDS, poverty, corruption, civil conflict, etc. aren't "great challenges" because the greater challenge is the religion of Islam (the "radical" prefix is diplomatic talk). Bush (and his Western counterparts) honestly believe that they have a DIVINE RIGHT to rule the world - because they've been victorious against "evil" ideologies in the past. Defeating Islam, to them, will be continuing the great "tradition" of ridding the world of "evil" empires. Secondly, the microscope's been on Islam since the 9/11 incident. The West believes that women who wear the hijab in Muslim countries are "forced" to by the men. One of my favorite comments came when an American general in Afghanistan said, in reference to the Taliban, something like: "I'll get a kick out of defeating these guys who're used to slapping their women around." Have the Taliban been defeated yet? How come a so-called superpower can't defeat dudes who live in mountain caves? I wonder... The West believed that if "democratic elections" are held, "free" Muslims would elect "moderates" or "secularists." What has happened in Palestine? What happened in the Iraqi elections? What happened in Lebanon, Saudi Arabia and Egypt? What happened in Algeria during the '91 democratic elections? In all those cases, the Muslim masses recognized and aligned themselves with the political party that holds Islamic values and character close to heart. Why? If Islam needed "reform" then wouldn't those people who voted FREELY elect a leadership that could be classified as "moderate" Muslims or Muslims bent on "reforming" Islam? The truth is in the reality of today and in the hypocrisy and miscalculations of those Pentagon hawks. Everything they said became a lie and blew up in their faces. Nazism, Communism, Fascism - these were all man-made ideologies that could never work. Islam is a religion and Muslims have a proud history. The world, it will be remembered, was much better off when the Muslims ruled it. Who preserved Greek and Roman literature (where Westerners derive some of their ideologies from)? It was the Muslims. And how are we re-paid: by invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan, among other injustices. Time will be the ultimate arbitrator, however. I'm done.
  8. Geedi's on board. Max'd Dheere says he's support the TFG in all its decisions. Indhacade said he's willing to go to Baydhabo if he's invited. Cismaan Caato is in Nairobi to meet with the Sharif. But, we know Somali politics: it changes faster than Seattle weather. Let's wait and see what happens on Feb 26 (insha Allah).
  9. Things are heating up on the world stage: We consider any referral or report of Iran to the Security Council as the end of diplomacy ," Ali Larijani , secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council and its chief nuclear negotiator, told state television, according to Reuters. Also, FOX Cable News (i.e. Bushspeak) is fanning the flames of an impending military strike against Iran: Fox is aggressively agitating for war with Iran. On shows such as Hannity and Combs, guest after guest--Newt Gingrich, Ollie North, various retired generals, pundits, and even Democratic politicians--agitate for attacking Iran. For example, on January 26th and 27th Liberal Democrat Bob Beckel said on Fox that the US must "absolutely" attack Iran if for no other reason than "for the sake of Israel." Democrat Bill Richardson affirmed that "we need to renew and re-strengthen our commitment to Israel." Newt Gingrich said that it is so urgent to attack Iran that it must happen within the next few months. According to Gingrich, Iran not only cannot be trusted with nuclear technology, but also Iranians "cannot be trusted with their oil." This new development, of course, as US President G W Bush prepares to give his State of the Union speech tonight. p.s. "End of diplomacy", to me, means "dialogue has failed, prepare for war."
  10. Otherwise, DHere and Indhacade may actually overwhelm RRA millitia in Bay. That would be classified as yet another tribal invasion of Baydhabo by the USC. Last time Indhocade came to Baydhabo, he had the support of RRA-Xaabsade, but today, things are a bit different. For one, the RRA's top leaders are united in this Baydhabo meeting. I'm sure the RRA can defend Bay and Bakool regions against another USC incursion (we're not in the early '90s, afterall). And the people of Baydhabo have demonstrated their support for the parliamentary meet. So, I think an invasion by the USC is too far off the chart. On the other hand, Max'd Dheere was quick to pay a visit to the militias housed in the General Da'uud (ex-Kongo) military camp outside of Jowhar. According to Hiiraan Online, Max'd Dheere told the militias: "..."si wanaag ah ayaad halkaan ku timaadeen, haddii aad baxeysaana si wanaag ah ayaad ku baxeysaan". Is Max'd Dheere scared that those militias might turn against his administration? Why the friendly visit (as soon as an angry Premier Geedi returned)? The Aden Agreement didn't fix anything; instead, it created a new "khilaaf" amongst the TFG leaders. Yet, while the TFG leaders urge the int'l community to give aid in hosting this conference, millions of Somalis continue to face food shortage and other Somalis die of starvation in Saudi prisons. Where's the TFG's response? Soomaali hadaanu nahay, anaga uun baa isku muuqana.
  11. My flight to America (so-called Flight 13) dropped me off at San Jose, CA, not Seattle. I came here on my own. Secondly, as far as a "substantive argument" goes, let's remember that while the Seahawks don't have any SuperBowl experience as a team, their coach Mike Holmgren has been to the SuperBowl twice with a 1-1 record. He is the leader of the team and he knows how to prepare for the big game. This season, while all the sports networks hate on the Seahawks, they've had a great season with an UNDEFEATED home record. You watched how they DESTROYED the Panthers (even though most sports anchors favored the Panthers). And I'm so glad that the Seahawks are so under-rated. It'll give their victory (insha Allah) that extra edge. But you flip-floppers disgust me. You LOSERS thought the Colts would beat the Steelers - and since the Colts were raped on their own turf, you victims decided to support the rapists (i.e. the Steelers). Freaken LOSERS! Give credit where its due. The fact that the Seahawks made it this far surprises y'all, and so you react in contradicting ways (i.e. supporting the team that b!tch-slapped your fav team). Freaken LOSERS! !!! Go Seahawks !!!
  12. ^^ Ferry, ferry disturbing. Anyways, I'm always amazed by the language people use to express themselves. For example, Originally posted by JaWaRiYa: ps. Miskiin-Macruuf-Aqiyaar i appreciate the welcome aboow-hes but my name is Jawariya, not Jawaahir....(don't worry typical somali-mistake ) And... Originally posted by JaWaRiYa: SHEER HOSTILITY!!..................A question which demanded reasoning but received typical somali-men enrage............ 13. ^^ Sounds much more appealing in cyberspace as opposed to reality. As far as the question, its too broad for any definitive answer. Of course, "some" men would find "successful women" intimidating. Speaking for myself, I wouldn't be intimidated in the least. How is a successful woman a threat, exactly? If the "successful woman" and the man in question understand each other and function properly in their spheres of life, then I don't see why one party would be intimidated by the other. As with everything in life, its all relative. But the question is generalizing and compounding "men" as if we were a single entity that functions in harmony across the globe (when, in fact, the truth is far removed from any such preposition).
  14. ^^ This is what I think of you two: L O S E R S Quit crying on cyberspace, LOSERS. When you run out of disses, you had to come up with something clever like "small-market team", huh Castro. F*&^ the market and f*&^ the Steelers' fans! Fans don't win games - the players do. So the whole of Pittsburgh can show up, for all I care. We there to take the SuperBowl back home - back to 2.0.6. !!! Go Seahawks !!! Oh yeah, one more thing: You two are flip-flopping LOOOOOOOOOSERS!!!!!!! I'ma love the Seahawks whether they win or loose, whether there's rain or sunshine! !!! Go Seahawks !!!

  18. Col Barre Hiiraale and his Isbahaysiga have taken a step to help curb the devastation the famine is causing in the Jubba regions, while his counterpart and fellow warlord, Cismaan Caato, says he's not concerned with "the Parliament" because, as he sees it, the TFG isn't concerned with resolving the ongoing clan conflict in Mudug and Galgaduud regions (Gobollada Dhexe). In both instances, the failure of the TFG comes to light: its not working hard to help stop the violence in the country and its not aiding the millions of Somali nationals facing a food shortage crisis. Yet, they're eager to sign contracts worth millions with security firms and passport agencies. Misplaced priorities? Indeed. But the responses of the two ex-warlords is quite interesting. One guy (Hiiraale) takes on the challenge himself, while the other (Caato) plays the "finger-pointing" game and issues a retaliation. If Caato is really genuine about his concern for the Gobollada Dhexe conflict, then why didn't he act in the past year or so? Why wait until the Parliament is about to meet and then say he's not participating (as a punishment of sorts)? Warlord ways - as they say, old habits die hard.

  21. In elementary school, they taught us the "connecting the dots" exercise. Let's connect the dots on this character and find out what really irks him: gay Lord Alli accused clerics of being “intellectually lazy†and called for a “radical democratisation of Islam.†"If you use Quran as literal text, you can stone a woman who has been raped and in Iran, two boys were hung up for being gay â€. A gaylord wants "radical" reform in Islam, because, apparently, the millions of Muslims who've been practicing the religion for over 1,400 years are all wrong, and he, in all his gayness, is right. And the timing can't be too far off: his call for gay rights in Islam comes amidst the "homosexuals in the priesthood" controversy that continues to ruin the founding morals of the Catholic Church of late. Coincidence? Perhaps.
  22. I've read this dude's gibberish on a few previous occassions, and at the end of reading each article, I can't help the pity smile that absorbs my face. Firstly, the writer tries so hard to sound "objective" but he always falls short. He says "western" Somaliland is "more densely populated" than Sool. How does the writer know this? On a second note, he stipulates that Sool region has "no significant economic value" and has lost its "political voice" by siding with Puntland, yet he doesn't explain why the Hargeisa regime spends 50% of its meager budget ($28 million for 2006) on its military, to keep them busy "defending" the mythical eastern border. If the Hargeisa regime is so rich that it can help develop Sool region, I'd hope that they'd first be able to assist the poor Somalis in Awdal region facing food shortage (along with their brethren in other parts of Somalia). The Somaliland authorities confined their attempts at regaining the capital of what they officially claim as part of their country to rhetoric flourishes rather than military adventures . This is to their credit, and at wider level perhaps proves the concept that democrats - as Somaliland is, are generally reluctant to fight . They even took to the airwaves rather than to the battlefield when the Somaliland President was shot at and chased out of Las Anod in 2002. The Deputy Defence Minister of Somaliland issued strong warnings and threatened to invade Puntland’s capital This was the best part, by far! The writer does such a terrible job trying to downplay the political significance of one of the few "presidents" in history who was forcefully ejected out of a city he claims to rule. Worse, the writer denies facts on the ground by implying that the Hargeisa regime turned down its war rhetoric as a matter of "democratic" practice - when, in fact, Hargeisa's recent peaceful overtures are due to its embarrassing indirect admission of loosing the last military attempt on Las Anod (24 POWs on SL side opposed to 12 POWs on PL side). Invade Garoowe?! Real men don't talk - they act. But by far the biggest losers are the people of Sool...But they have a history of making wrong choices in Somaliland politics...They chose(most of them) The Sayyid Abdille Hassan movement over the majority Somaliland clans. Defending the honor and territorial integrity of dhulka Soomaaliyeed is considered the "wrong choice" - as opposed to, I suppose, the "right choice" of collaborating with the enemy (i.e. the oppressors, the colonialists). Given those two, I'd still make the same choice and fight alongside the Dervishes, and at least die fighting for freedom rather than inhibiting it. Another great attempt to diminish the significance of the people of Sool region, its politics and economics. Yet again, the author falls short of convincing anyone but himself (and a few of his like-minded extremists). Kudos for effort, however!

  24. However, Seatle won the game and that is all matters. I just think that the Steelers are playoff tested and they almost playing home in Detroit… I see them winning and winning big. Oh great, SOL's own Ms Cleo! What's with all the excuses? Panthers lost - fair and secure. My favorite banner by a member of the 12th Man (the crowd) read: "Smithless in Seattle" Isn't that just creative? When did Detroit become "almost home" for Pittsburgh (unless you're implying that both cities are in the East Coast)? More fuel for the fire. ! ! ! Go Seahawks ! ! !
