Second, the survival of his government is not positively or negatively dependent on Mela Zenawi's retention of power. SXB, if we were to open our eyes and really see the bigger picture, we know that all of this TFG-Jowhar's "progressive" steps were taken with the overt help of the Addis Ababa terrorist regime. Without Meles, Cabdullahi Yusuf is nothing but an old, ailing man living in the guest house of Md. Max'd Dheere. Let's remember that, then-Puntland pres Cabdullahi Yusuf was physically removed out of office in Garoowe. He returned with thousands of heavily-armed troops from Ethiopia to oust Jamac Cali Jamac from office. Meles, my friend, literally saved this man's political career during those uncertain days. And its Meles who continues to support and safeguard Cabdullahi's government (and, in turn, produce Somali leaders who say "Ethiopians are my brothers" and "There is no Somali terrirory under foreign rule" and "Kids born in Hargaysa are closer to kids born in Addis than those in Muqdisho"). Have you ever seen an Ethiopian leader speak in such charming terms about the Somali people? If there is one, I don't know about him. And lastly, let's remember that it was Ethiopia which destroyed Cabdiqasim's government. Ethiopia is playing the position it always dreamed of throughout history: become the ultimate powerbroker in Somalia (by taking advantage of Somalis' weakness: tribes). Many Ethiopian Christians might not like Meles, but I'm sure they love what he's doing in Somalia.

! This trial has been going on for years and I've never even heard of it. Col Qadafi's allegation is quite possible; let's remember that the CIA tried to assassinate him several times, and failed. He knows what they're capable of. But its shocking how low on the moral meter the American/other Western gov'ts go in trying to spread their power and influence to all parts of the world. Yet, in doing anything, they invoke "morals" and human rights (Guantanamo Bay? anyone?) as a justification for drowning nations economically, or sometimes as with Iraq, militarily. Hypocrites never run out of double standards. Thanks for the story! ABCNNBCBS (ABC, CNN, NBC, CBS) are all corporate-owned franchises and they rarely share the real truth the "bosses" don't want us to see.

Originally posted by Maakhir: Practically speaking, most of the TFG’s support comes from Puntland. So what If the secessionists obtain recognition from the International community? Then, the "secessionists" will continue to wield power and influence in less territory than they do today (let's remember that, for purposes of peace, the "secessionists" are 150 KM into Sool region). The status quo only exists because of tribal strife within the Sool community. But, if talk of recognition ever becomes serious, expect the regions of northern Somalia to become ablaze. The relationship part obviously points to the declaration of a lobbyist and consultant of “somalilandâ€, Iqbal Jhazbay at an “informational session†hosted by the U.S State Department in SA that Geedi’s government will boost and support Somaliland if the World recognizes it. And the subsequent confirmation of Geedi himself on BBC radio The future of African nations isn't determined by an individual named Iqbal Jhazbay. And neither can Geedi nor Cabdullahi decide whether or not Somaliland is recognized as an independent nation. Ethiopia doesn't want to recognize Somaliland, for that would lead to further increase of rebel warfare within Ethiopian borders. Secondly, Ethiopia would get condemnation of the highest kind from the rest of Africa. Thirdly, let's remember that Meles Zenawi is busy manufacturing a war with Eritrea so that attention will be diverted away from his dictatorial rule and gross human rights abuses. His days in Addis are numbered - and Cabdullahi Yusuf's gov't won't go anywhere as long as it continues to tie its interests to that of a falling nation (Ethiopia). Federalism is viewed by many, including me, as the source of Somalia’s hope When the leaders of the SSDF convened in 1994 (I believe) and drafted a draft policy to make Somalia as "federal republic," they didn't do a good job convincing the rest of the Somali factions. If "Puntland" is to be the "role model" of the federal republic, then I'm afraid some of us don't want to see a federal Somalia (ruled, by proxy, from Addis). Since "Puntland" came into being, several events have taken place that were, until recently, unheard of in that part of Somalia: 1. Cabdullahi Yusuf's "Puntland" denied ONLF military leaders the right to use the "friendly" port of Boosaaso. Thus, why ONLF leaders have forged a relationship with Indhocade and Muqdisho's "Islamic" (clan) courts and reports of ONLF units training in Dhuusamareeb. 2. Armed Ethiopian military personnel crossing over into the Somali border with the nod of none other than Cabdullahi Yusuf himself. In "Puntland", during the height of its civil strife, many in the Northeastern community avoided war with Cabdullahi because, as they so eloquently put it, "wuu waalan yahay." What kind of Somali leader orders Ethiopian troops to cross over into Somali territory so that his source of power may be restored? The federal option, while feasible, has been infiltrated by Ethiopian imperialists bent on never seeing a strong Somalia again. That's one of their major goals (national interest) - regardless of whether Haile Selassie, Mengistu or Meles is in power. Cabdullahi Yusuf has already played his major card: Ethiopia as a powerbroker. And as long as that continues to be his card, then we can expect Somalia to fall into a deeper abyss than it already has. The time has come to empower real Muslim leaders. Before Ayatollah Khomenei took power in Tehran in what is known as the "Islamic Revolution," Iran was a puppet state and a playground for the CIA. Today, Somalia with its proxy leaders Cabdullahi Yusuf and Cali Geedi is in a similar situation. We've become the playground for Ethiopian imperialists - a long-time dream come true for them. Unfortunately, if things continue as they have, our generation of Somalis will bear witness and go down in Somali history as the only Somali generation that gave in to Ethiopian demands, to Ethiopian plans. Why? Because after centuries of studying us, the Ethiopians were provided with our primary weakness on a silver plate: tribal mindset. They've exploited it and used it masterfully to their advantage (and, conversely, to our disadvantage). If that's not failure, then I don't know what is. May Allah SWT save Somalia from the Somali people who continue to ruin it. Aamiin!

Its very unfortunate that some Somalis will do anything to sit on power even if it results the breakup of Somalia into ministates. If I may take a wild guess, you're probably referring to the odd quietness of pro-Puntland media about Geedi's historical words on the BBC interview. Names such as SBC, HorseedNet, PuntlandPost, and AllPuntland come to mind. Why have these four major news sites decided to remain quiet about Geedi's words? Isn't it interesting that the comments by Puntland VP Xasan Dahir Afqurac - the highest-ranking official to reply to Geedi - were not mentioned on SBC, HorseedNet, PuntlandPost or AllPuntland at all? I believe RadioSSC.net and WidhWidh.com posted his comments. I find it quiet strange that the comments of the Puntland VP are not mentioned by some major pro-Puntland websites. Are they all part of the Ethiopian conspiracy? And what of Cabdullahi Yusuf? His silence (along with Maxamed Dheere) means they condone Geedi's words. And worse, after all the "baaqs" by many Somalis, Geedi has yet to offer an official apology. Amin Caamir drew it best: Geedi is cutting up SOOMAALIWEYN with a seesaw, which was handed over to him by Meles Zenawi, who has a few more seesaws remaining (alluding to the future and further disintegration of Somalia). May Allah save our country and our people from doom. Aamin!

Maasha'Allah. Jazaa'k Allah kheyr for posting the story. No matter how great a man's evil and sin, in his heart there is a seed of goodness. If only we can reach it and make it grow, it will bear fruit, insha'Allaah. A seed of goodness. May Allah SWT help us all in growing our seeds of goodness so that it may bear us fruit. Aamin!

Cabdullahi Yusuf is rumored to have killed his own brother-in-law because he stood in his way to power. This "president" we have is a power-hungry individual who'll do anything, including sell Somalia, to get to the status of Aadan Cadde, C/rashid Cali Sharmaake and Maxamed Siyaad Barre (Allaha u naxaristoo kuwii dhintay) as the undisputed president of Somalia. As far as Ethiopia being pro-secession: I think that possibility is too far off the chart. Let's remember that Ethiopia is a nation-state with a vast amount of mini-states based on different ethnic and linguistic units (i.e. current civil strife between Tigres and Amharas). If Ethiopia recognizes Somaliland, the chance of internal self-determination warfare will skyrocket and rebel groups such as the OLF and the ONLF will be empowered to further pursue their secessionist goals within Ethiopia. For Somaliland, rumors of Ethiopia recognizing them is a way to calm the public's anxiety. I believe that Addis Ababa's interest lies in having a divided Somalia (a short-term gain). As long as there is Somaliland, Puntland, Hebel-land, Ethiopia is sitting on pure gold. Berbera port will serve its military-economic interests; Puntland will serve it by being quiet about the atrocities being committed by Meles Zenawi's military in Kilinka Shanaad (i.e. recent massacre in Qabri-Dahare). And Muqdisho will be alienated as being a haven for "terrorists" - and so Bush gives Zenawi more military hardware to fight the "terrorists" but those weapons will be turned against the Somalis, the Oromos, the Amharas and other groups within Ethiopia. Also, a vast amount of those weapons will be handed over to Cabdullahi Yusuf so he can build the "national army" - increasing the risk of warfare in southern Somalia once again. BUT, Somaliland will remain in diplomatic limpo and Ethiopia will continue to milk the ignorant cow (Somalia) politically and economically. Power is in strategy. But if those Somalis we entrusted to design the most successful of strateg ies are Ethiopian spies, then I'm not only afraid for our future, but I'm terrified.

WIFE VS. HUSBAND A couple drove down a country road for several miles, not saying a word. An earlier discussion had led to an argument and neither of them wanted to concede their position. As they passed a barnyard of mules, goats, and pigs, the husband asked sarcastically, "Relatives of yours?" "Yep," the wife replied, "in-laws." Ouch. Okay, okay. I can't lie: I laughed, a little. But... God may have created man before woman, but there is always a rough draft before the masterpiece. On behalf of the male species, I am truly offended. We're roughdrafts, huh. Payback time: Strange Ritual Joe stopped at his favorite watering hole after a hard day's work to relax. He noticed a man next to him order a shot and a beer. The man drank the shot, chased it with the beer and then looked into his shirt pocket. This continued several times before Joe's curiosity got the best of him. He leaned over to the guy and said, "Excuse me, I couldn't help but notice your little ritual. Why in the world do you look into your shirt pocket every time you drink your shot and beer?" The man replied, "There's a picture of my wife in there, and when she starts lookin' good, I'm headin' home!" A Rabbi's advice (about nagging women) Man goes to see the Rabbi. "Rabbi, something terrible is happening and I have to talk to you about it." The Rabbi asked, "What's wrong?" The man replied, "My wife is poisoning me." The Rabbi, very surprised by this, asks, "How can that be?" The man then pleads, "I'm telling you, I'm certain she's poisoning me, what should I do?" The Rabbi then offers, "Tell you what. Let me talk to her, I'll see what I can find out and I'll let you know." A week later the Rabbi calls the man and says, "Well, I spoke to your wife. I spoke to her on the phone for three hours. You want my advice?" The man anxiously says, "Yes." "Take the poison," says the Rabbi. Three Men and Their Wives Three men are discussing their previous night's lovemaking. The Italian says, "My wife, I rubbed her all over with fine olive oil, then we make wonderful love. She screamed for five minutes." The Frenchman says, "I smooth sweet butter on my wife's body, then we made passionate love. She screamed for half an hour." The Jew says, "I covered my wife's body with schmaltz [chicken fat]. We made love and she screamed for six hours." The others say, "Six hours? How did you make her scream for six hours?" He shrugs. "I wiped my hands on the drapes." Q & A Q: Why is it so hard for women to find men that are sensitive, caring, and good-looking? A: Because those men already have boyfriends. Q: What is it called when a man talks nasty to a woman? A: Sexual harassment Q: What is it called when a woman talks nasty to a man? A: $3.99 a minute

Originally posted by Castro: Hopefully the sheikh will be vindicated and released. If he's a crook, then I'm sure the people he swindled would like to see him dealt with appropriately. I'm sure you're not familiar with Sh. Ibrahim, sxb. But let me tell you that there is no if about his innocence. The U.S. government is fighting Islam on several fronts - war in Afghanistan and Iraq (mainly) and the war of ideology elimination in the West. Sh. Ibrahim represents the 20,000+ Somali Muslims of the Greater Seattle area, not to mention the thousands other Muslims who normally pray behind him. As far as the rumors, I had a chat with the second-in-command to Sh. Ibrahim (I can't disclose his name on here) last night and he flatly told me that the rumors about fellow Somalis reporting him is, once again, another Somali-created conspiracy to tie two completely unrelated things to each other. Its true that, before Sh. Ibrahim's arrest Monday, a few men had questioned him as to the whereabouts of the money that was collected for a new mosque in Seattle. The Sheikh had informed those men to come to Maghrib prayer and discuss the issue with the greater community - but they didn't show up. Then, that incident was followed by the Sheikh's arrest and my Somali brethren were quick to tie those two things to each other. Truth of the matter is that the U.S. federal gov't has been after Sh. Ibrahim for quite some time. Before, they denied him the right to travel to Saudi Arabia to visit his wife and kids. Now, they're arresting him on ambiguous "immigration violation" charges, when so many people can testify that he indeed does have a greed card. Also, let's not forget that the arrest of Sh. Ibrahim represents the 15th such arrest - only this time, it was what we can consider a "high profile" case. 14 other Muslims (incl. the Afro-American Muslim barber) have been detained over the past two years, a few at a time, for other ambiguous reasons (the barber was actually reported by a Somali who appeared on TV a while back). And further below we continue to sink. P.S. Since when do "immigration violations" appear on Dept of Homeland Security "National Terror Alerts" website? Read this and compare: http://www.nationalterroralert.com/updates/index.php?p=725 The leader of a Rainier Valley mosque was arrested Monday on an immigration charge, surprising those who knew his work in Seattle’s Somali community. http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/local/248494_imam16.html The respected leader of a Rainier Valley mosque was arrested Monday on an immigration charge, surprising those who knew his work in Seattle's Somali community. The Homeland Security people, in their endless efforts to make us Americans feel "safe", thought it prudent to omit the adjective "respected" from the Seattle Post-Intelligencer article when they posted it on their website. Isn't that strange? Like I said, this goes far and beyond childish Somali fingerpointing. The bigger picture is clear for anyone willing to look.

Great timing for Minister Max'd Qanyare to give in to the Jowhar side. Does it have anything to do with the recent $12 million grant the European Union gave to Premier Ali Geedi's government? Or the $2.5 million grant the Italian gov't handed over to Jowhar? Or is time the most important factor...? I guess we have Islamophobic Somalis, afterall. What a shock! The Birth and Rise of Al-Ittihad Al-Islami in the Somali Inhabited Regions in the Horn of Africa A. Duale Sii'arag November 13, 2005 I. Summary Fourteen peace conferences were held for Somali factions since 1993 to foster clan reconciliation and restore central government in that beleaguered country. None has been successful. The wounds of the bitter clan conflict that ravaged Somalia in the past decade are yet to heal. The last peace conference held in Kenya was concluded in October 2004, producing a new Transitional Federal Government (TFG) after two years long negotiations. The TFG has split into two rival factions soon after its birth and remains largely a titular government with no jurisdictional powers. It is neither in exile nor in control of state territory. Hence, genuine reconciliation and sustainable peace among the rival Somali factions and the restoration of functioning broad-based central government seems elusive as ever. As a “failed state†Somalia is today a country without a central government, laws and judiciary system. It is a country where uncertainty abounds; where the rule of the gun is the only recognized rule. It is a country where clan-ties are stronger than religious convictions, where clan is in reality a bone of contention and the main, if not the only, source of conflict. In present-day Somalia, criminal offence and human rights abuse are ordinary occurrences and perpetrators are largely not liable to punishment. Trade in small weapons is booming and light automatic assault guns are easily available for sale throughout the country. The unregulated arms proliferation and traffic is threatening the stability of the entire Horn of Africa region. The country has become a breeding ground for fundamentalist religious groups promoting extremism and intolerance. A number of extremist groups, allegedly having links with international terrorist groups, have taken shelter in southern Somalia, taking advantage of the prevailing anarchy and vacuum in governance. Southern Somalia is increasingly becoming a conduit for drugs, guns, crime, Islamic fundamentalism and terrorism that can undermine the stability of an already volatile Horn of Africa region and beyond. Islamic extremists have succeeded in filling the vacuum left by the demise of the government. Today, radical Islamic groups provide education, health, welfare, justice, employment and other services to a large number of the disadvantaged Somalis. religious extremists established Islamic schools ranging from Koranic study centers to Islamic universities. Taking advantage of the prevailing lawlessness and state breakdown, a shadow force is in operation in Somalia today; stealthily working, from behind the scenes, to frustrate international efforts geared towards the restoration of central government in Somalia. This shadow force has played a pivotal role in the failures of successive Somali peace conferences. The Somali people, including prominent warlords in Mogadishu, are indeed hostages to this potent shadow force. Nonetheless, both Somalis and the well-wishing international community have failed to take serious note of the potential menace posed by the ghostly spectre haunting the unsuspected populace and its formidable bearings on social, economic and political life of war-weary Somalis. In the following pages we will try to unveil that sinister and mysteriously shrouded dark force. MORE: http://www.wardheernews.com/articles/November/13__Alittihad_Sii'arag.html

The story doesn't quite add up. As usual, U.S. federal officials are being shady about "sensitive" cases, such as this. But read this below with me: From the Seattle PI: Nur said he heard that Mohamed was returning from Dallas when he was arrested. Another man traveling with Mohamed was not detained but was told that the imam was going to be "held for a few hours," Nur said. For a few hours, huh. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokeswoman Lorie Haley said only that Mohamed, 37, was "in custody on immigration violations" and is being held at the Northwest Detention Center in Tacoma . Tacoma? That's an INS prison in Tacoma and only the baddest of the bad go there, especially people facing deportation. Imagine, they drove him from SeaTac Airport all the way down to Tacoma when Tukwila's INS offices is a couple of miles away from the airport. If they were planning on detaining him for a "few hours", they would've taken him into custody somewhere closer to the Seattle area. But sending him to Tacoma is only a sign of worse things to come. First, they told him he couldn't even visit his family in Saudi Arabia. Now, they arrest him on ambiguous immigration charges. Reer Seattle - we gotta rally behind the only leader the Somali community got in this part of the U.S.

At the moment, Baydhabo makes more sense anyways. Mogadishu will always be the seat of Somali leadership though. Kaaraan for life!

I've often wondered: what did C/llahi Yusuf ever do to the S/land administration or its supporters? He never declared war on S/land or its supporters, yet their websites are jam-packed with articles demeaning him. At least C/llahi Yusuf fought AGAINST the former Barre regime while the current Somaliland leader was a ranking member of its notorious NSS secret police! Does your hypocrisy know no bounds? As far as Ethiopia being happy, of course they would be. They've had to endure thousands of Somali refugees for 14 years. They want the refugees to safely return to their homes in Somalia, provided that the President-Elect, the PM and the Cabinet can implement such action. Kenya is happy, Djibouti is happy. If my neighbor's house was burning and the fire department put the fire out, I'd be happy, too. So why aren't you happy, Suldaanka?
