Still I am going to vote for him. Between the two politicians running, his rhetoric is more tolerable. Agree wholeheartedly with you and Geel jire.......I never set my expectations too high because I knew time would reveal that he is simply a politician however I would be lying to you if I said I'm not disappointed.
  2. Originally posted by STOIC: ^^^As much as any other thing, the black family reflected both the themes and the contradiction of black leaders today. Despite the frustrations and the difficulties black family faces Jesse Jackson and the old guards civil right leaders wants to down play the AA family institution. Jesse wants us to believe that When Obama talks about the black family structure we got be a profoundly suspicious about his rhetoric. Instead of focusing on the cultural and the economic logic behind this fall, Jesse wants to charge Obama with elitism. Interesting enough the lure of publicity has wreaked havoc the old-civil right leaders. As a politician of course Obama will be blamed and criticized, which is rightly so most of the time, but our race pimp Jesse wants to dent Obama with the primary slogan of “Obama is out of touch”. He is trying to deflect the attention to unnecessary things instead of highlighting the more dramatically or effectively problems; lack of family structure that stood at the heart of continuing failure of our race. Central to Obama’s position (or even to any sensible person) is that AA fathers need to take responsibility. Like the civil right movement in symphony, Obama campaign highlighted things that are important to our race by highlighting it in the churches’. Jesse and his pals have lost the spirit of the civil right movement of standing for dignity. I agree with the previous poster who stated that it wasnt in Obama's position to lecture black families about parenting, especially from a very condescending soapbox in front of a national media audience that simply did not consist of the target base of the speech. Why is Obama spending Father's Day making a speech about the black family towards a TV audience thats overwhelmingly white? I hate to get into race politics but the fact is Obama has increasingly shied away from his role as a leader in black relations, and although I do not believe it is in his capacity to do so, he also cannot pick and choose the issues he wants to address in the black community. What exactly was new or refreshing about his criticism of black fathers in that speech? What exactly did that speech achieve, or help set in terms of improving the foundation of the black family? All I heard was completely overused rhetoric about the role of black fathers in very ambiguous terms. There was nothing that Obama helped contribute in that speech, that the civil rights leaders of the past have failed to touch upon. He seems to be learning from the Bill Cosby school of thought in terms of selective vision when it comes to black issues. Like Obama, Cosby in his prime failed to touch upon potentially polarizing issues in his community out of fear of losing his mostly white base audience, only to present himself as an unapologetic black leader as of late. Problem with him is that, just like with Obama's speech, he has never set forth any concrete ways to help the black community, never has touched upon the socio-economic factors that contribute to the current state of the community, and have instead chosen to focus on the much used media talking points in relations to the problems facing blacks in America. I hope Obama wins the presidency just as much as the next man, however people must realize just like every other politician he definitely has his faults. Its a bit disturbing how folks will go to no end to justify every single aspect of his campaign, almost blindly at times.
  3. Lahm is lucky he scored that goal, his flank was dominated by the Turks the entire match it would have been quite the story for them to come back to win yet again with 9 players out but football is always a heartbreaking sport.

Bantus, are really industrious people, Half of the Africans are Bantus & they are really better off than us. The Hutu militias who slaughtered the tutsis were classified as "Bantu". Of course, there was actually litle cultural difference between them and their cousins, but colonial propogandists succeded in making some believe that their cousins were aliens who had thinner noses, beauty, and intelligence, thanks to genetics from "caucasion" Ethiopia. In other words, the tutsi were slaughtered for apparently looking like Skinny Faraxz by the "Bantu" Militia. So, they were probably worser( or on par) than Somalis and their civil war. p.s. Bantu is a term used by colonizers to classify Africans. Same way they invented terms such as"sub-saharan-African". "Bantu" President of Rwanda! It must be noted that Kigame is in fact a Tutsi and that fact in itself is "well documented".
  5. I didnt twist anything you said please note that I stated that I understood your point but perhaps this was the wrong issue to convey that opinion in considering the circumstances.Being a young Somali man myself I clearly know the issues we are facing and I agree that efforts must be made to help address the issues that confront our community, however I just got the impression that assumptions regarding the boys life were being made and it was only that, that I took issue with.
  6. I understand the point in the above post but its in absolute bad taste to make it in this thread. To suggest that this kid was involved in anything that would lead for him to suffer such a tragic fate when everything points to the contrary is wrong, lets remember he was the victim not the shooter.
  7. Originally posted by Castro: quote:Originally posted by -Serenity-: And to add injury to insult, all the news channels kept making references to al-qaeda in Somalia being the reason. What happened to decent and honest journalism? Can we blv anything these days? Usually no. And in this case, definitely no. Here's some questions you should ask yourself. These 3 "Al-Qaeda" men have allegedly been in Somalia since before the 1998 embassy bombings, at least 8 years. If that's the case, then, first, what intelligence does the US have now (knowing that the ICU only controlled Southern Somalia for only 6 months of those 8 years) that they didn't have at any other point in those 8 years. Remember, Southern Somalia during most of that time was ruled by warlords many of whom were paid by the CIA. Second, assuming this new evidence has presented itself in the window of opportunity created by the Ethiopian invasion, why not use the Ethiopians (who are already on the ground) to come in and kill or arrest these guys? Third, using an AC-130, a hammer, to kill a fly, the terrorists, would seem extreme overkill, wouldn't you say? Using that type of plane means there really was no pinpoint knowledge of the whereabouts of the alleged terrorists as the plane must spend time traveling from Djibouti to Southern Somalia. And even if there was solid evidence of their whereabouts that night (and it was the middle of the night when this occurred) they must shoot at and mow down anyone moving around in that area no matter the reason they were moving around. Finally, the alleged predator drones (the unmanned aerial vehicles) that was tracking the men could have easily been tracking anyone else for there's no way they could do facial recognition from any decent altitude without being sighted. But even if the predator drones already knew who and where the men being tracked were, why didn't it fire missiles at them and kill them instead of dispatching an entire AC-130 all the way from Djibouti to carpet bomb the area? If there was ground intelligence (in the form of paid Somalis or Special Ops personnel) why didn't those get the job done? Do you wanna know why all these massive raids occurred? It's because the Ethiopians met stiffer than expected opposition and may even have been suffering too many casualties to continue the fight. The US was not going to be embarrassed after all the political cover they gave the Ethiopians. No way, no how. And most of all, the US public had to be reminded about the never-ending "war on terror" who's focal point will be receiving a boost of up to 40,000 troops to be announced Wednesday. I hope this helps. Castro ,brother, I sometimes cannot believe my eyes. Our own countrymen continue to sound more and more like the neo-conservatives justifying the invasion of Iraq and their hapless policies throughtout the world. I find it very unsettling that many foreigners with no connection to our country are denouncing these hideous unprovoked actions, while Somalis are somehow justifying them. The power of qabil is an extraordinary thing,is it not my friend?
  8. http://www.pbs.org/newshour/bb/africa/july-dec06/somalia_12-26.html Providing a well articulated defense and perspective that is shared by the majority of the able minded Diaspora worldwide. For the Duke and his like, how does it feel to know that your people have been marginalized by neo-cons and the like as a piece of the puzzle in the global war on terror?

I'm sure I'm not the only one who watched incredulously as people rejoiced at the death of a man who has had absolutley no effect on their conditions. While Saddam was no angel, all of his actions were merely reactionary. There are plenty of leaders worldwide, Bush included, who have committed worse and are yet allowed to live in dignity. Even during Milosevic's last days he enjoyed the comfort of a well furnished Dutch jail. We are only bombarded with one side and one perspective of the story of this man's legacy without being informed objectively of his accomplishment's. For over two decades under Saddam Iraq enjoyed the region's best health care system, highest literacy rate,a booming infrastructure with Baghdad being one of the Middle East's most modern cities at it's peak. Saddam was the first Arab leader EVER to recognize the Kurdish language, the first to appoint females to cabinet positions, and included all of Iraq's ethnic groups in his government. The Kurds have been killed by the thousands by Hafez Assad( late president of Syria), and the Turkish gov't yet I doubt you have categorized either as being " evil". Do not base your judgements simply on what you may have read, seen, or heard on biased and propaganda driven media platforms.

With every post you make the more credibility you lose.
  11. They had a Somali defender by the name of Yusuf Adam the last time I checked. Not sure of any other Somalis on their current football team.

Definetly one of the best players Qatar has ever fielded, and possibly one of the best Somalia has produced as well. There is currently 2 Somalis on the Qatari national team I believe, as well as a Somali from Ottawa on their national basketball team. The clip you posted appears to be from the 94 Gulf Cup in the UAE.
  13. Great. This guy gets to one of the highest accomplishments of ANY Somali athlete since Abdi Bile, and all everyone has to talk about is his stud.

  15. What a joke of an article from an entirely qabilist perspective. Basically claiming the rest of us Somalis are lesser muslims than " Somalilanders".

So much for Baidoa not being in danger eh?

That is why clan based regions are wrong and unjust-dats the facts on the ground. until recently, when Somaliland feared, for good reason, for it security because radicals from the south were killing inocent people who have come to help, not only minorities but foreigners such as oromos and kenyans have found a better life in both puntland and Somaliland. Typical bigotry from NN. Blame all your problems on the qabil that is different from yours. I think it is well documented that " minorities" ,I use that term loosely considering the fact they are Somali through and through, do not have it well in both regions and that's a problem that is completley independent from "southern radicals".
  18. Everyone views this topic from their own perspective, but I do find it humorous that some people use the same logic of those who supported the Iraqi invasion to prove their point that Barre was worse.
  19. Wow what a misleading title by the threadstarter. Way to edit it to suit your opinion on this issue. We understand you are an Ethiopian Somali but the fact that you have to preface your posts with that info shows that your arguments lack substance. Taking your word as that of all Ethiopian Somalis would be foolish and irrational. The article to the contrary shows that the ONLF opposes the Ethiopian invasion and will engage in armed struggle in ******.
  20. I also know Hassan from Ottawa he is Somali, Socod Badne is actually telling the truth. No need for you guys to talk down on a guy you dont know personally.

Horn I heard dis movie while back....and plan to watch it inshallah. Checked out the trailer. My beef is with the message of these movies? Dat love between a man and woman is more important then tradition, family/values, honor? Would I want my sister to marry just anybody because she loved him? These sort of movies portray the family of the girl bad.....and her sneaking around unislamic ways as a “courage to love”. If u have any sisters or cousins u understand n know how important the sharaaf of your sister is........and u dont want ur sister with any farah or joe because of “love”....but with someone who has religion, from good family, character ect....dis movie from the trailer is telling ppl to follow your heart instead of your conscience and the advice of your family. hey someone gots to say it I think your misintereperting the message of the movie my friend. If there's anything that's portrayed as un-Islamic in this story it's the fact that the girl's father is making judgements based on qabil. It's important that we have films like this to help shed further light on such problems plaguing our society, and to make sure that the future generation do not fall victim to such mind states.

Unbelievable, how this situation correlates to the one you compare it to is beyond me. How does a cricket player fit a terrorist's profile? Seems to me the endless propaganda our religion has been made to endure has made it's mark in some places.
  24. Good article, nice to see our diaspora reflected in a postive light for once.
