The timing of her statement against the Government of Eritrea is not surprising or secret, and it is not new. Its objectives are:- 1. to cover up the failure of America 's policy and activities in Somalia, 2. to hide the failure of US support for Somali “war lordsâ€, 3. to justify the US administration's disinformation campaign about “terrorism†in Somalia , and 4. to create a pretext for the invasion of Somalia by its agent, the regime in Ethiopia . Finally, Eritrea does not need policy lectures from others on complex issues that it has been addressing long before others, and one that requires a lot more than the issuance of self-indicting labels such as “extremistsâ€, “terroristsâ€, and “fundamentalistsâ€. Such statements merely expose ones own prejudices and motives. Statement from the Embassy of Eritrea regarding US Accusations in the Press The Embassy of Eritrea regrets recent statements in the Press attributed to Dr. Jendayi Frazier, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs in which she inaccurately characterized the situation in Somalia. The Embassy of Eritrea categorically rejects the unsubstantiated and irresponsible statements, which are devoid of facts and evidence, and takes this opportunity to once again re-iterate Eritrea’s position on Somalia. Had the TPLF regime respected its commitments to Agreements signed and had the United States fulfilled its moral and legal obligations by enforcing the Final and Binding decision of the Eritrea Ethiopia Border Commission as called for by the Algiers Agreements it witnessed and guaranteed, we would not today be talking about a “border issue†that has already been legally resolved. The matter is no longer about the legally resolved border conflict, but rather an issue of occupation. Accusing Eritrea and making fantastic claims will not absolve it of its obligations, nor bring peace and stability to the region. In addition, regurgitating unsubstantiated allegations and pointing fingers at Eritrea to cover up the TPLF regime’s admitted transgressions, after weeks of vocal denials, will not advance the cause of the Somali people and can only lead to further escalation and intractability in the Region. The problem in Somalia is the intervention of forces, namely Ethiopian, in Somalia’s internal affairs under various pretexts. Eritrea has never relied on proxies to defend Eritrea’s peace, security and stability, and is not doing so in Somalia today. 13. Somalia’s president embarks an urgent trip to Addis Ababa in search of arms Aweys Osman Yusuf Mogadishu 15, Oct.06 ( Sh.M.Network) The president of Somalia’s federal government Abdulahi Yusuf has had an instantaneous trip to Addid Ababa, the Ethiopian capital. Sources close to President Abdulahi Yusuf indicate that the president has been flown by a special Ethiopian military plane from the government’s temporary base in Baidoa on Saturday. Somali President, Abdulahi Yusuf A government official, who asked for anonymity, said the president went to Ethiopia to ask for arms to facilitate his government institutions to expand its control throughout the country and immediate IGAD peacekeepers to intervene in Somalia. President Yusuf survived double suicide bombing intended to lynch him on 18 September as members of the parliament convened that day to approve Prime Minister Ali Mohammed Gedi’s reshuffled cabinet ministers. Mr.Yusuf has been widely criticized by his rival Islamic Courts that he is quite allied with Ethiopia, which is very sensitive towards the rise and the expansion of Somalia’s Islamists. Ethiopia had had clashes with Somalia’s al-Itihad extremists in southern Somalia in 1990s. Yusuf will meet with African Union’s peace and Security Council to induce the council to dispatch peacekeeping forces to Somalia although the arrival of the peacekeepers was anticipated earlier. His departure coincided with the day he has been inaugurated as Somalia’s president on October 14, 2004. However, the shaky government barely controls beyond its small town of Baidoa in Bai region, 245 km southwest of the capital Mogadishu. Uganda and Ethiopia are the only African governments and members of the regional peace body IGAD, that have number of forces in Somalia and have shown their readiness to send troops to assist president Yusuf’s largely powerless government temporarily based in Baidoa. Somalia had no central authority since 1991 when tribal warlords ousted former dictator Siyad Barre and then flung the country into clan and sub-clan factional wars. Shabelle Media Network Somalia

Barre Hirale recruits more militias to take back Kismayu Aweys Osman Yusuf Mogadishu 14, Oct.06 ( Sh.M.Network) Fresh militias in favor of warlord Barre Hirale have reached Bar-dhere where the Somali defense minister, who deserted Kismayu after the Islamic Courts seized it, is based. The militias are reportedly from different locations in Gedo province, southern Somalia to participate in Barre Hirale’s war campaign endeavor to recapture Kismayu. Consecutive meetings between officers in support of the Somali defense minister Barre Hirale and local businesspeople had been occurring in Bar-dhere as the residential militias hijacked five huge pickup trucks. The motive of the meetings is to convince merchants to back up local militias financially. Mohammed Ali Adan, a local businessperson, told Shabelle Radio in Mogadishu that the conclusion of their conference was productive. “We have come to decision of handing over security elements in Bar-dhere to Barre [the Somali defense minister] and that he becomes in charge of the tax collectionsâ€, Adan said. Bar-dhere business people appealed to the minister to give the order to free the hijacked trucks. Ever since Somalia’s Islamic Courts overpowered the minister, he left for Gedo region where he hailed from to reorganize his militias and take back his city of Kismayu. Somalia’s Islamic Courts had taken full control of central and southern Somalia, including the capital.

A Demonstration against Ethiopia takes place in Baled Weyn, central Somalia Aweys Osman Yusuf Mogadishu 14, Oct.06 ( Sh.M.Network) Large demonstrations against Ethiopia’s military maneuver in Somalia’s borders have occurred in Hiran regional town of Baled Weyn where several hundred people were chanting anti-Ethiopia slogans. The Islamic Courts in Baled Weyn have previously announced jihad or a holy war against Ethiopia. Senior Islamists, who spoke to demonstrators, called up on the people to register for “jihad†against Ethiopia. Sheik Ahmed Jiqleey, a senior Islamist in Baled Weyn, stated young people had to stand for the defense of Somalia against Uganda and Ethiopia. The news came as Islamic Courts officer for an organization dubbed “Civil uprising and defense for the religionâ€, Ahmed Qare held a news conference in Mogadishu, condemning Ethiopia for its military involvement in Somalia. Ahmed Qare said he would send several individuals in his organization to nine provinces in Somalia to induce the civilian population in those areas to offer all their support to Islamic Courts in the fight of what he called the enemies of Somalia’s Union of Islamic Courts. Islamists in Baled Weyn said nearly 3,000 ethiopian troops intruded in to Somalia’s borders, encouraging civilian to train for holy war.

Or is it because ICU controlled areas are no more safe for their personnel? Some one tell me! Wasn't UN operating in Somalia while the shameless warlords were conducting their street and house to house fight in Mogadisho?
