PS- Darman, if that is really Lakkad exchanging those PMs with you, why is it that the style of writing is exactly the same?....hmmm. At least you could've tried to copy Lakkad's weird way of writing yaah ...(oops).

Welcome to SOL XU & NGONGE! I'm Ilhaam (SOL name) from Toronto and I don't think I need to state my gender. I'm a new grad - working some odd shifts at my old job while I polish up my resume and study for an exam. I fix my hijaab when people aren't looking ( ) and I'm currently into Somali music. Nice meeting ya. -
Originally posted by STHLM_Lady: walaahi i thought i was wierd, i had this crave for dhaqax(stones).....does that mean i have anemia?? No, that doesn't necessarily mean you're anemic, but consult with your Doc - do some bloodwork to check your iron levels. Nazra - Don't know how you can say you miss taking 'em pills (agh!) - but tx for sharing that. Kynda - Wc again I hope you're taking better care of yourself now and that you're no longer a saltaholic ( ) On a side note * I think we would really benefit from having a HEALTH forum in SOL. We've got some knowledgeable sisters, who (hopefully) wouldn't mind sharing their knowledge & expertise with us.

DHA, or docosahexaenoic acid, is one of three omega-3 fatty acids. Many researchers say it's the most crucial one for brain development. "It is the most important one for people's health and welfare... it is used by the body in forming and maintaining nerve and brain tissue and the retina of the eye” said Milligan. The American Heart Association says omega-3s can help decrease irregular heartbeat, triglyceride levels, and growth rate of plaque in the arteries. It is also credited with promoting brain development and regulates pressure in the eye, joints, and blood vessels. Ok, well apparently there are many benefits to consuming this milk... But I think I'll wait and see what the potential side effects of this new product are before I start drinking it.

Tam, lol - you noticed it too huh? The last time I was in a gym was back in High school....when it was mandatory.. I think I need to start visit that place again. Everyone around me has suddenly become exercise fanatic. Just the other day, my preceptor was like ..hey you want to go for exercise with me? I'm like... when? Now kulahaa... we'll run up the stairs down from the first floor all the way up to the 13th floor... she must be crazy I thought! I politely declined.. saying the subway stairs is enough for me...I get shortness of breath coming up the those loong stairs.

Tx for your input girls. Dr. Raula ( ).. tx for that info. My Doc did say my deficiency was due to poor ingestion of iron rich foods. Alxamdulillah it's not with the menses. Sade, You mean iron in the liquid form? Doesn't that really stain your teeth? And the taste isn't too nice either. And no injections pls, especially with iron... that'd be very painful. If I hear the Z-track method of giving injections...I'll freak out Also, I read about not taking tea and coffee with iron as they contain tannins which will limit the absorption of iron, but I can't give up on caffeine.... I can try the 30 min limit period tho. Doesn't milk and OJ reduce the absorption of iron too? DA - nothing wrong with hotdog and canjeero... the canjeero acts as the bread...so what's the problem? Lol.. Pearl - what are the iron supplements called? I might try 'em.

Wsalaam Sade, what a coincidence!.. My Bday was on the 11th of April too (you sure you're not my long lost twin sis?) My little sisters were more excited about my bday than me though. My youngest sis woke me up early in the morning with a big kiss and a hug, saying it's your Bday today! .. so cute. I spent the most of the day @ home as it was my day off. Aabe called me from work and said it should be the parents who should be congratulated on Bdays because my mom and him were soo happy when they found out she was pregnant with me... I'm the curud nooh . Then my friends came over, we chilled for a while, then they took me out for casho. And tx that nomad who sang happy bday to me in paltalk...lol. But Belated Bday to you... I wish you all the best.. may you get to spend many more Bdays the same way or better. PS -HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU RAXMAH! (today's the day isn't it?) ... Hope there are many more to come.

Have any of you girls ever experienced weird cravings such as eating dirt, paste, and even hair? These past few months I've noticed myself munching on few more ice chips than I'd like...and no, I'm not pregnant! But I was told by my Dr that I had Iron deficiency anemia a year ago. This means that either your red blood cells or the amount of hemoglobin (oxygen-carrying protein) in your red blood cells is low. The primary cause is blood lost during menstruation. But eating too few iron-rich foods or not absorbing enough iron can make the problem worse. (The recommended daily allowance for iron ranges from 6 milligrams (infants) to 30 milligrams (pregnant women). Yet one government source found that females between 12 and 50 years old, those at highest risk for iron-deficiency anemia, get about half of what they need). Pregnancy, breast-feeding a baby, and blood loss from the gastrointestinal tract (either due to ulcers or cancer) can also deplete iron stores. Older persons who have poor diets, especially when they live alone, often have iron-deficiency anemia. Anyways, she prescribed some iron pills, Palafer (red capsules). I followed the medication regimen for about a month when I decided the occassional lightheadedness and epigastric pain from my diagnosis was better to deal with than the side effects of the pill itself- diarrhea, constipation and nausea...so I stopped taking the medication and started focusing on changing my eating habits. I started trying more iron rich foods such as green leafy vegetables, liver (beer)- which hooyo insisted on me eating every morning and fish. But being the busy student I was...I didn't get to eat 3 meals a day, let alone following that specific diet. So now I find myself craving ice chips, which apparently isn't normal So, I was just reading up on anemia, when I found about this codition called pica which is a symptom associated with anemia. Pica is condition in which people crave non-food substances such as ice chips, dirt, laundry soap, starch, hair, matches, etc. I also, ecently discovered there are many Somali girls that have this condition. I guess it's due to our poor diets (of course not all of us eat poorly) but some of us don't consume foods that are good sources of iron combined with that monthly cycle of blood loss. So- having briefly explained that... back to the original question. Have you had any weird cravings as mentioned above? And if you've had or have anemia, how did you try to over come it? *NOTE* *Iron deficiency anemia is not only the most common form of anemia, it's the easiest to correct if it's due to being female or taking in inadequate amounts of certain foods. If you'd like to read more on this condition, click here. Harmful cravings

As I sat here reading most these replies, I finally came to the post I was looking for..and that is P_S' post about women working for the sake of making a difference in this world and who don't entertain this silly idea of competing with their male counterparts. If all women are better of staying home - what happens when the need for an OB/GYN, a Dr or a nurse arises? Should these Muslim women be subjected to being intimately examined by a male professional when they could easily receive the same care from a Muslim woman gynecologist, Dr...etc? I'm sure you, yourself will also prefer your wife to go to a woman gyn. when the circumstanc entails. So why deny women to go out and pursue such professions, or whatever else they wish to be? To add..I do agree with you guys that a woman has a greater responsibility when it comes to caring for the children and that they should be her main priority.. but I also believe that it is possible for her to have a career and fulfull the responsibilities of being a good mother and a wife. It's all about prioritizing, organizing and of course, having a loving and an understanding husband at her side would make it much easier.

I thought I had fallen victim to one of those pranks they usually play on us here...you know how they use those misleading titles..."OOh, this is soo cool, you gotta see it" and such. This was funny tho... I tortured the poor thing for a while, making it dance silly and falling down (hard) a couple of times - hehe.

Ooh Exams! Ilaahay ha idiin sahlo all of you... Alxamdulillah, no exams for me in a while... er, make that school exams. Finally finished school (today!)...will start work next week (no freedom). Oh yeah, just had my Bday on Sunday...my age? won't tell as I don't want ## birthday punches (that many punches could kill a girl)..

Uff, I seem to be seeing more and more of these people now a days...at work, school & streets. But as it has been said before...it's their life, and their country and Allah will deal them. I saw a documentary on KPBS a month or so ago about this Women(arabs)that were Lesbians and CLaiming to be MusLims. There was part they showed her performing saLat-subxanaaLLaah and then Later taLk freeLy about her sexuaLity. That just kills me. Apparently, they know the deen well enough to know what they're doing is going against Allah, so why are they involved in it? The other day I saw this Muslim man, who had contracted the HIV virus... from his male partner. The partner died of AIDS, now he's awaiting his own death.

Mr Qac, what's going on here? Maxaa gabdhaha u xumeeyneysaa? I thought we came to an agreement...and that was your victim...er, I mean the girl should be in the know, before parents come into the equation. And when I say you should let her know first, I don't mean waa in "xooga in luuq lagu soo daaliyo", "oo beenn lagu soo aruuriyo" as you put it. There are other ways you can let her know and I don't think I need to get specific here. Legend, ...finally back to see us eh? I'm surprised no one else noticed the amount of flirting in this thread too...

Of course wiilka waan u niya dhisaayay. But it turns out he's brighter than I thought,... he picked on it real quick. Laakiin, Nafisa, see camal yaqee adiga...u tartiibi maskiinka, si xun aad ugu daadisee. Nova, you know I get ripped off alot, but when I find out...oh boy

Yeah, what is Milo? My little sisters like to eat p-nut butter sandwiches with banana...I thought it revolting at first, but they made me try it, and it wasn't so bad. I used to like mayo & jam sandwiches when I was younger..now I can't imagine how I ever thought that was ok. Have you guys tried Xalwo & Bajiyo (together!)...or Xalwo & Sambuus(together!) ...haven't tested it yet (and I don't think I'll do) but apparently it's delicious.
