  1. After Kenya shelling Barre hiiraale positions in kismayo he has left the city. This meddling by Kenya will backfire surely. They arrested col caabas and prevented reinforcement from gedo to reach Kismayo. Latest news are that Barre and his group will regroup then attack Ras kamboni and KDF again.
  2. Saturday, June 29, 2013 MOGADISHU (Reuters) - Dozens of people were feared killed in two days of fierce fighting for control of a strategic Somali port city, according to witness and militia accounts on Saturday, despite efforts to prevent the clashes escalating into broader clan warfare. Scores have died in sporadic fighting in Kismayu since Ahmed Madobe, leader of the Ras Kamboni militia, was chosen by a regional assembly to lead Somalia's southern Jubaland region, where the port is located. The conflict between Madobe's supporters and a rival claimant to the leadership, Barre Hirale, widely seen as backed by the federal government in Mogadishu, has raised the prospect of a return of the kind of clan fighting that tore Somalia apart more than two decades ago. A shopkeeper, Bile Mohamed, speaking to Reuters by telephone from central Kismayu, said he had counted nine dead bodies on a road, although he said shooting had stopped. Hussein Ali, from another area of Kismayu, said he saw 12 corpses. "I am afraid scores died in the alleys and inside houses," said Ali, speaking from the area that he said had been a stronghold of Hirale. He also said fighting had ended. Hirale, who also spoke to Reuters by telephone, said he believed at least 50 fighters and civilians had been killed, while five people were injured in his home by shells. Poor communications and the dangers of going outside made it impossible to ascertain the true death toll. ENTRENCHING POSITIONS Worried that fighting could undermine fragile security gains secured by African peacekeepers, the United Nations called for talks. "At the same time as this new fighting has broken out, contacts are under way to put together an inclusive process to defuse tensions," the top U.N. diplomat in Somalia, Nicholas Kay, said in a statement. The fighting would entrench positions and "make it all the harder to achieve a settlement," Kay said. Witnesses said Kenyan troops, part of the African Union peacekeeping force, had been deployed to the port. Hirale said Kenya, seen by many as close to Madobe, had intervened to push his forces back. Nairobi acknowledges no such allegiance. It was not immediately possible to obtain comment from the Kenyan forces on the ground in Jubaland. The African Union, which leads the peacekeeping force AMISOM, said the fighting "only serves to complicate and disrupt the process of stabilising Somalia". In a statement issued during the fighting on Saturday, Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud called on AU forces in Kismayu to "be neutral in the fighting between the groups" and to place themselves between the two sides to end the shooting. What happens in Kismayu is a test of the skill of Mogadishu's new government, in place for less than a year, in building a federation in a nation torn by war, deep clan rivalries and separatism. Regional and Western powers worry a slide back into conflict would hand an opportunity to al Shabaab Islamist militants to regroup and regain more territory. African troops led a campaign that drove the militants out of major centres, although al Shabaab still controls swathes of countryside. (Writing by Edmund Blair
  3. These reports are not true. Even with borrowed muscles from Kenya raskamboni are unable to defeat President Barre and his forces.
  4. It's seems like you got a chip on your shoulder and thus it explains your wish to polarize the situation. Come back when you are less angry.

This what have infected this conflict, some folks like paint this as HAG vs Dblock inorder to polarize the country and put people in different political pockets by defualt. However people are starting to see trough this. Let's be honest, there was no HAG who fought today and president Barre is alone in this besides his clanmen he has no support by HAG nor goverment and nor foreign gov. If we want to defuse the situation and the violence let's call a spade for spade and stop polarize this further. Hassan sheik don't wish to see Barre rule Jubbaland if he wanted he would have recognized him already. Aun to the civilian deaths.
  7. I'm getting news about col Cabas got arrested by Kenyans simple because he hails a from another subclan. The Somali gov needs to speak up against this illegal arrest and whatever "neutrality" Kenyans claimed is gone.
  8. Let's end here since I don't see the value of debating you any longer on this thread, you are just full of nonsenses.

What you qouted was a warning of what might happen if no political solution is reached. It's quite simple really and most of the observers of this conflict also warns about that scenario.

Alpha Blondy;964806 wrote: thanks for answering my questions Dabrow. it's a shame really. i hope civilians aren't being targeted deliberately in these 'shocking' clan conflicts. and like you say, this is not in the interest of anyone. inshallah kheyr. No problem alpha blondy. Peace is a must and also a political solution. Inshallah.

Unlike you I have a large family living in kista, the city and its people have suffered to long and the last thing on my wish list is more suffering, however this don't mean that the people will accept Ras kamboni who came riding on KDF tanks.
  12. I don't have numbers but if would have guess then its the ras kamboni faction who have killed most civilians. They with assistance of Kenya wants to impose control of the city. However other factions are not blameless but their actions are in selfdefence where civilians have been caught in crossfire. It's a clan conflicts in the city, there is no way to go around this fact. I don't know what the different factions has done to minimize civilian loses but if these civilians keep getting caught inbetween then we will reach a point of no return in the region with clan warfare. This is not in the interest of anyone.
  13. Human Rights Watch (HRW) warned Wednesday (June 26th) that rival militias in Kismayo must take precautions to avoid further civilian casualties. At least 31 civilians were killed and 38 injured in clashes between militias supporting rival presidential claimants in Kismayo June 7th and 8th, according to the United Nations. "The militias fighting over Kismayo showed little apparent regard for the safety of civilians around them, including at a market and a medical clinic," HRW Africa Deputy Director Leslie Lefkow said in a statement. "All warring parties should take precautions to spare the civilian population. The laws of war apply to all armed groups." HRW urged the new United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) to strengthen its human rights monitoring section to document violations in Kismayo and throughout the country. http://sabahionline.com/en_GB/articles/hoa/articles/newsbriefs/2013/06/26/newsbrief-07

Soon there will be a security sweep, that will net whatever weapons in the city . No matter what the stooges of Kenya cook ie madoobe and company, there already counter measures in place. This is what I been saying since the beginning of this clan conflict. Nobody will respect madoobes self appointed title.
  15. The United Nations has vowed to stand by Somalia, following Wednesday's deadly attack on a U.N. compound in the Somali capital. The bomb and gun attack by al-Shabab militants killed at least 21 people, including seven attackers and several people working for the United Nations Development Program. Speaking in Beijing Thursday, U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said the U.N. will never be deterred by what he called despicable terrorist attacks. He said the U.N. will help the Somali government and people establish political stability and promote development and human rights. Separately, the U.N. Security Council said attacks will not lessen its resolve "to support Somalia's transition to peace and stability." On Wednesday, al-Shabab taunted the U.N. on its English-language Twitter feed, asking whether the new U.N. envoy to Somalia, Nicholas Kay, is still planning to settle down in Mogadishu. It also said the U.N. is blocking the establishment of Islamic law and "must therefore be dislodged." A new Somali government, installed last year, is trying to bring order to a country that has endured more than 20 years of conflict and crisis. Somali forces and the African Union force AMISOM drove al-Shabab out of Mogadishu nearly two years ago. But the group has continued to carry out periodic, guerilla-style attacks since then.
  16. Speaking in Mogadishu today after the attack by Al Shabaab terrorists on the United Nations Common Compound, H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, President of the Federal republic of Somalia, said: "Al Shabaab are a disgrace to Somalia. Their cowardly attack on innocent, unarmed civilian UN staff and their Somali guards today shows us all that they care nothing for Somalia or the Somali people. "It has been confirmed that eight people died in the attack, four of whom were Somali citizens. I offer my condolences, on behalf of the Somali people, to the families of all those killed and injured in the attack on the United Nations Common Compound. "I have spoken to both Ban Ki Moon, the UN Secretary General, and Nick Kay, the new UN SRSG to Somalia, to express my horror at the attack and extend my personal sympathies to all the UN family on this sad day. The UN Common Compound is home to humanitarian staff who come to help us and must never be subjected to such violence. "I congratulate the security forces of the SNA and AMISOM who responded so quickly and recovered the situation with discipline and professionalism. The UN staff inside the compound acted with great courage under very grave circumstances. I am relieved that so many got out safely. "Over the past year, Somalia has turned a corner. We are now on a determined path of recovery and reconciliation. Violence and terror will not derail this. "Al Shabaab do not represent the will of the Somali people. The UN, and all our partners, know that we are on the right path and we stand firm together, resolute in our determination to bring peace, security and prosperity to this nation. "I must reassure people that we have overall control of the security situation and our security forces work tirelessly to protect us all. We will sadly be subject to this sort of mindless terrorism for some time, however, and I call upon all citizens to increase vigilance, report suspicious activity and help us to deter and catch these cowardly criminals."

Im sure Madoobe will come to his senses and of course both sides need to compromise. Hope for a speedy recover for Yaasiin Radaar, its still unknown who did that crime. Hopefully the criminal will be caught.

The troops gained control of Mubarak,Ugunji,Nuun and Furuqley towns which fall under Qoryoley and Audinley districts in the lower Shabelle region. 21. His Excellency Prime Minister Abdi Farah Shirdon today welcomed the UN Security Council’s commitment to the government-led peace and reconciliation process in Somalia. Following a briefing to the Security Council from the Assistant Secretary-General Tayé-Brooke Zerihoun on the situation in the Juba regions, the UN issued a statement expressing concern at the security situation in the Juba regions; underlining support for the federal state-building process being conducted according to the constitution; backing the government’s reconciliation drive in the Juba regions in tandem with the new UNSOM mission and IGAD; reiterating its willingness “to take action against those who undermine the peace and reconciliation process in Somalia”. “I welcome the UN’s statement, which demonstrates strong support for the reconciliation process which the government is championing,” the Prime Minister said. “In particular, I would like to thank the UN for making clear its position against those undermining the peace and reconciliation efforts. Our position is equally clear. The future of the Juba regions, together with any other regions, must be settled in peaceful talks, not with guns.” http://www.raxanreeb.com/2013/06/somalia-prime-minister-welcomes-un-support-for-government-efforts-to-stabilise-juba-regions/

I know the government you are talking about were congratulating Ximan & Xeeb today for the new president there and the SFG had no involvement whatsoever, but that is not my point, my point is, why are we changing our stance like odey jirjiroole, I wasn't expecting u to withdraw your support for Abuunaa President Hiiraale of Jubbaland State. I'm not changing my stance awoowe. Between Barre, Basto and madoobe, I'm supporting Barre, however blind support will not lead to solutions, there has to be a compromises. Somalis fails to understand this concept.

A fact that is beginning to affect the chances of Mogadishu conference materializing at all. Mogadishu reconciliation conference will happen and Barre, basto and madoobe will be there aswell. Btw president iftin basto was attacked by ras kamboni militia, how did he start the violence.?
  24. xiinfaniin;961914 wrote: ^^We talked IGAD statement and its implication to death. Resorting to it now shows you are unsure the political ramification of today's security council statement. It is simple Dabrow, president Hassan has two choices: 1) move forward with governing the country and accept the will of Jubba people, or 2) prepare for persistent and effective diplomatic ambushes, security complications, and political scheming that will ultimately deem him irrelevant and reduce him to a governor of Mogadishu. No amount of foreign trips, photo ops or presidential veneer will help him overcome the hardening resolve of Jubbaland state. This is nonsense xiin. We both know this. No amount of threats will stop this goverment to regain control of this country from warlords and exercise real and fair governance.
  25. nuune;961912 wrote: Dabrow, sxb, there is no need for Hassan to name new governor while we have the elected President Hiiraale of Jubbaland State, just reminding you awoowe.
