  3. So a close friend of mine is doing her dissertation on Cultural and Psychological differences of qaxooti youth. Luckly she had already established a remarkable relationship with most of the newly arrived families way before perusing her doctorate when she worked as a case worker for a non-profit organization. She also managed to open an after school program solely for qaxooti girls to get them more comfortable in their community. Anyways waaxan laa yabay is how she figured out that most qaxooti kids are living a double life, and no I don‘t mean double life as in a student by day and a stripper by night… but a double life as in they are torn between two different worlds. They can’t seem to find a balance between dinta, daqanka, and the western world… so they behave insincerely most of the time on both sides! To an average adult these might seem like petty self-esteem issues, but walahi I have seen a few kids break down including my sibling. I think she is tapping into something that is seldom spoken on or shared by ciyaalka. I also think that if people understand this problem, we might have a better understand of our youth, and we can be that much closer to preserving our already diminishing culture!

  7. "Nothing worse than not understanding what Ayeeyo macaan is saying to you when she yells "INKAAR QABTADAAN MEXEY ISLA DHAGOOLEYSAA INTAAS 'WHAT IYO WHO' UUN BEY GUREYSAA"... Enjoy!" Hahaha that Literally took me 15mins to decipher, getting extremely close to the monitor and shutting one eye didn’t help either, so sad I know… but with perseverance I finally got it and I laughed like a sanbaac :-/ Thanks!

  11. LOOOOL I didn’t necessarily mean those singers verbatim, but I meant in general. Btw I’m addicted to lafoole, that man can carry a tune in a bucket haha and there is NOTHING wrong with these new up and coming singers, they are easier to understand by folks like me who live in a Somali-free tuulo… but lately I have been listen to the qaraami version of every song they twisted… and jacaylbaro qosal baa iga kentay! Dabshid well said, i would kill for the music festival
  12. Carter II I like that, Lil wayne is my guilty pleasure, and gucci mane
  13. Why aren’t there any biographies on really well known, and sought after Somali singers like Lafoole, Duniya Axmed, Fuad Cumar, Fartun Birimo and so forth? I would really love to read about them, and know more aside from their great work. Especially me being new to the Somali music scene or what not. Or I’m I just being oblivious?
  14. Since i'm on the topic of somali music, i must say even though Mohammed Saleban Tubeec Killed the Qaraami Version of this song, I have to say the newly sampled one by Ali najib is just as potent http://www.youtube.c om/watch?v=KyORfCbuW -w
