  1. Somalis are easy targets since our elite from the community is not passionate enough to counter these type of stories through the media, and i don't blame them, even when it comes to small things you will have difficulty rallying Somalis behind you, unless it has something to do with some issue in the middle east, qabiilism or a cartoonist, oh then they are passionate alright fighting for theee rights and all, yawn. The council clearly has a heavy role in placing these individuals at such houses, and most likely someone inside alerted this paper of that Dameer's lifestyle. Sick of it.
  2. I see no flags of the countries the celebrations are held in, this only justifies individuals interested in portraying the respective Somali communities as enemies within the state, or some other lame nonsense. Articles like ''the London and Minnesota Somali communities welcomes their president'' sends a wrong underhanded message i.e David Cameron or Obama are not their heads of state. Therefore some symbol of the diasporic country should be added, not just out of respect for the natives, but to also cement to the younger generation that this is their country just as much as Somalia is, and therefore they should extend/showcase the same affection/attachment during these celebrations for the countries they call home today.

  6. Abdi inspiring new interest in the Blues Wed 19 May 2010, 10:12AM Posted by Tim Oscroft One of City’s rising stars is helping to spread the word about the Club’s Academy into previously uncharted waters. He may only have played one full game for the senior side since emerging from City's acclaimed youth system, but that has been enough to make Abdisalam Ibrahim a superstar in Somalia, where he was born before emigrating to Norway. Inspired by the 19-year-old midfielder’s appearances for the senior team last season, over 300 youngsters from the Somali community in the UK and Scandinavia played on the indoor pitch at Platt Lane last weekend in a mini-tournament that has strengthened the links between the club and the local community. Darren Bowman, head of the Junior Academy, explains: “There has been an incredible response to Abdi’s rise into the first team squad from Somalis, not just in the immediate area near to the Academy but from all over the country and beyond. “Through Abdi’s father we made contact with Somalis locally and further afield, and found there to be huge enthusiasm for football amongst the youngsters. A number play for the Whitworth Park club, which is almost on our doorstep, so it was nice to see them amongst the hundreds who had such a good time at the Academy. “That the event was covered by a Somali TV crew shows the level of interest there is right now, and as a club we’re delighted to help with that. Abdi is a great role model to have, and he has undoubtedly helped to raise awareness with Somalis about what the City Academy does. “It was a highly successful day that everybody enjoyed, and we are looking to host similar events with many diverse community groups this year.” -- SOURCE

  15. No intention of being negative. I need a visual representation of an old Somali prison to inspire potential illustrations, as it will be the home of two scientists, a commander, and a activist in one of my stories set few months before the collapse of the central government. To survive life in prison and the NSS, this group supports eachother mentally despite their different political views and personal histories. The commander will eventually be freed by way of a Tank operated by loyal soldiers of his. These characters after several years in prison witness a complete different Mogadishu then the cosmopolitan city they remember before being locked up.
  16. Does anyone have a picture of the notorious prisons operated by the NSS in Mogadishu during the Barre administration, where opposition leaders, commanders and scientists critical of his rule were locked up?

  18. Naima Bashir, who graduated in spring 2006 with a bachelor’s degree in family social science, spent the summer of 2006 with the McNair program, studying the impact of parental involvement in schools within the Somali community. She continued her research last spring through the University-wide Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP), which offers a stipend or expense allowance for students to assist with an existing faculty research project or to carry out their own project under faculty supervision. A native of Somalia, Bashir says the research experiences educated her about graduate school expectations and application procedures and helped her conquer a fear of public speaking. “Just being exposed to higher education in that way helped me,” she says, adding that she hopes to encourage other immigrants to pursue college and graduate school. Today she is a first-year graduate student at the Hubert H. Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs. http://www.cehd.umn.edu/pubs/connect/2007fall/opportunities.html
  19. ^Their wives and girlfriends is how the hell it happened. Nagging women are a strong motivator. I know thats how i started when a group of radical halimo's on the old S-life forum dedicated 30 topics each day on the skinnyness of the Faraxs that their mothers generation used to love, but i guess we are part of the superficial 'perfect physique world' now we are away from the motherland.
  20. I got my own sound i dont sound like the rest, and even my attire and my choice of dress, and not long ago i don't spoke English
  21. Somali people and the Oromos, Afars etc split 5000 years ago, we were never ''from them'', we are our own distinct ethnic group. They inhabited small pockets of modern Somalia, sure, but lots of confusion was caused by scholars believing the Somali word 'Gaalo' and the Amharic word 'Galla' as being one in the same and a reference to the Oromo people, when in fact names like 'Galkayo' are a throwback to our Islamic Somali ancestral armies pushing out our Waqite Somali ancestors, which the former referred to as ''Gaalada''. After that Somali empires and Kingdoms dominated the region expanding to a territory more than half the size of the Roman Empire, which is not bad for a people who barely numbered one million.
  22. uhh..produce them how? Their blessed young fathers would first need their pretty young mothers to produce those pretty young things, right? Our genes come with a specific key ment for a specific box containing that unique Somali phenotype. Use the key for a different box and the result(s) will be vastly different.
  23. The days of the lone Somali dude with above average biceps training amongst 20 Polish bodybuilders and 10 Nigerian wrestlers is over. Yesterday i saw atleast 12 Somali dudes in the gym, and they are freaking huge, how the hell did that happen? I think they trained for an entire year in the early hours to avoid the crowd and then when they got freaking ripped they decided its time to tell Krakovic and Osumbango that the 35kg Dumbell is theirs.
  24. Arch, If you had no alternative team with a competent coach that could lead you to victory, wouldn't you do the same? I think it shows real character that several of these professional players are willing to play in the Somali national team. ps random pic of a Somali kid with a ball.
