  1. The Reaper --> LOL The Big Bang Theory --> LOLOL Homeland ---> Keeps you glued to the screen. A Game Of Thrones --> So good I bought the DVD! I'm waiting for 'Once Upon A Time' to hit us, because I can't be bothered to watch it online.
  2. A megacity of 30 million people could fit five hundred times in a country the size of Somalia, whose entire population is less than half than that of the Japanese capital. It's impressive to see how a divisive people like the Japanese that used to be pirates, riddled with civil-wars and were the biggest clannists in Asia evolved above their clan-system and destroyed it. They build a magnificent country afterwards in a small geographic part of their world, while we have been blessed with a country three times the size of Japan, with countless rich resources and no earth-quakes, but can't seem to reach above the village mentality and are perpetual slaves to illiterate clan chieftains. A sad state of affairs.
  3. This still makes me laugh lol.

  5. I'm kinda tired of these type of articles, completely irrelevant to us considering there is not a single major Somali actor or actress out there, so a big BOOHOO, and I blame the Somali people for that. They went from making films and documentaries that had the largest budgets in African Cinema, and annually hosted for decades two of the four largest film festivals in Africa to having a non-existent film culture. If the war hadn't happened we would have maintained our status as the film capital of the region easily, and could have expanded that into a cultural franchise akin to the Korean Wave. You see; the Koreans really don't care about the American or British Film industries because they have their own industry, and its Hollywood that's copycatting their products through various remakes and not the other way around, maybe that's what we should strive for?
  6. Researchers at Cardiff University's Biosciences dept. working with Frankincense. Pictured is Dr. Ahmed Ali (research director for the Compton Group) using a purification column to purify the Frankincense. He is pictured with Prof. Vic Duance (centre director of Arthritis Research UK Biomechanics and Bioengineering Centre.) and Dr. Emma Blain (research fellow). An age old cure The answer to treating painful arthritis could lie in an age old herbal remedy - frankincense, according to University research. Scientists from the School of Biosciences have been examining the potential benefits of frankincense to help relieve and alleviate the symptoms of the condition. "The search for new ways of relieving the symptoms of inflammatory arthritis and osteoarthritis is a long and difficult one," according to Dr Emma Blain, who leads the research with her co-investigators Professor Vic Duance from the School of Biosciences and Dr Ahmed Ali of the Compton Group. "The South West of England and Wales has a long standing connection with the Somali community who have used extracts of frankincense as a traditional herbal remedy for arthritic conditions. What our research has focused on is whether and how these extracts can help relieve the inflammation that causes the pain," she added. The Cardiff scientists believe they have been able to demonstrate that treatment with an extract of Boswellia frereana – a rare frankincense species – inhibits the production of key inflammatory molecules which helps prevent the breakdown of the cartilage tissue which causes the condition. Dr Ali adds: "The search for new drugs to alleviate the symptoms of conditions like inflammatory arthritis and osteoarthritis is a priority area for scientists. What our research has managed to achieve is to use innovative chemical extraction techniques to determine the active ingredient in frankincense. "Having done this we are now able to further characterise the chemical entity and compare its success against other anti-inflammatory drugs used for treating the condition." The research comes as a result of a seedcorn project, funded by the Severnside Alliance for Translational Research (SARTRE), through the MRC Developmental Pathway Funding Scheme devolved portfolio. SARTRE is a joint project between Cardiff University and the University of Bristol to combine and accelerate translational research. http://www.cardiff.ac.uk/news/articles/an-age-old-cure-6841.html

  8. Carafaat, time is a natural construct engineered through the centuries by man, don't box your dreams into a limited gregorian timeline and schedule. If you mentally and physically feel 19, then that's what you are! You see, you just regained ten years of your life, and so you have all the time you need to achieve your resolutions. I however would advice you to embrace your age for there are millions of people who never make it to the age of 10, or the age of 20, and they had plenty of dreams too. Therefore coming close to reaching the age of 30 and beyond is a great achievement and landmark. Happy birthday to you and Narniah.

Wadani;805769 wrote: Very informative. But hey guys, do u think its a pure coincidence that 10 or 11 out of the 12 people featured on the top left hand corner happen to be from the same clan? I in no way say this stir up any trouble, but i found that to be a curious and indeed potentially troubling fact. Don't be silly, they were chosen for their significance to ''all Somalis'' not suffering from qabiilism and the fact that pictures of other Somali figures are majoritely copyrighted. Clan is the last thing that came to their minds when creating a collage years ago when the Somali wikipedia articles were trolled by racists and pan-Ethiopianists. I know its hard to believe but there are Somali men and women out there that managed to evolve above the clan-system, and transcend that archaic nonsense.
  11. Typical Somalis, competing against eachother like individuals fighting their own shadows. Is it an inferiority complex, is it a village-mentality or are you guys too afraid to compete with non-Somali cities? I recall that before the war no city in East Africa was given a prestigious nickname like ''The Pearl of the Indian Ocean'' that Mogadishu was once known as, it had the only major Film Festival in East Africa and the largest Museum. I recall Berbera was the only city in Africa that boasted an airport serving as an emergency landing strip for NASA, etc, etc. Why not focus on outperforming non-Somalis by transforming our cities into word-class hubs instead of this crabs in a bucket mentality?
  12. Mogadishu looks awesome, and with the ongoing Turkish regeneration drive, this city will shine once again by 2013/4! Those beach images are truly something else!
  13. I held today the most beautiful Somali baby I have ever seen in my life, only 6 months old with big brown eyes that suck you in and an infantile smile that wakes the dormant father within you. I'm still awestruck, that baby girl represents everything that is good about humanity, my life has changed.

  15. The Lions of Al-Rassan by Guy Gavriel Kay: The three main characters in The Lions of Al-Rassan represent the three religious factions: Asharites, Jaddites, and Kindath. These three groups represent Islam, Christians, and Jews. The three characters are all very charismatic and are considered to be the perfect specimen of their given factions. Ammar ibn Khairan is a well-known warrior and poet who represents the Asharites/Muslims, Rodrigo Belmonte (El Cid) is the champion for the Christians/Jaddites, and Jehane is the beautiful and intelligent Kindath/Jewish doctor that the two men fall in love with. I did enjoy each of the characters and it was refreshing to see the Asharites/Muslims shown in a favorable light even if it was a more romanticized version. Ammar was a character that you could respond to. Belmonte was also a great character, except he also had a huge flaw, in that he was married to one, if not the most beautiful woman in the realm and he found himself in a love triangle with Ammar and Jehane. This was a lot to swallow as his introduction showed him as honorable and loving no one else aside from his wife. For the story to work you had to buy into his love for another woman. The other woman, Jehane, was also a great character. She was very strong and did a great job of moving the story forward. Even the supporting cast had great parts to play as the story unfolded. Kay does an excellent job with characters, although there is a small need to stretch the imagination and buy into Belmonte's love for Jehane but as I said it is a small stretch even if it tarnishes his honorable image. http://speculativebookreview.blogspot.com/2011/03/review-lions-of-al-rassan-by-guy.html

  17. Carafaat, a shortage of all kinds of vitamins sxb, take a multi-vitamin each day. You should keep your hair moist with natural oil, and use non-sulphate shampoos to wash it out. Eat plenty of vegies and protein rich dishes, and excercise frequently! Alpha, I rejected the machoistic male tradition of neglecting of one's own hair a long time ago. To maintain healthy thick hair into your 30s and 40s we need to be more like our sisters and get busy with the oils, it's doing wonders for mine since I sure as hell won't look like no damn Vin Diesel if I were to become bald in the next 10 years, more like a bald thriller era jackson, xuux. Damn the thought alone gives me goose-prickles. Imagine a lion losing all of its manes, would you tell him its okay and he should embrace it? LMAO I just pictured a bald male lion strolling around the serengeti trying to heat up lionesses, they would laugh in his face. My hair is what always set me apart in class from my West African brethren, while my exotic curls danced in the wind during outdoor PE like the palm-trees of the motherland, theirs was as static as the Empire State building, while my white classmates' hair was flat and dry as a pancake mine was thick and lush. My hair is what distinguishes from princely status to pauper status, I'm majestic damn it lol. I'm blunt here because I don't think Archdemos should in this day and age, with all the treatments and technology available, accept going bald. Arch, walaal "Your worth it" lol
  18. Male Pattern Baldness is a disease, don't embrace it! I mean would you embrace cancer, or other life-changing diseases? MPB can be just as psychologically damaging as the big C. There is a chance however that what you are currently going through has nothing to do with MPB, but instead is a sign of an increase in your body producing DHT that is blocking your roots, this could be due to stress, an increase of testosterone, etc. There are currently plenty of ways for you to stop hair-loss and regain what you have lost. The easy way would be to keep your hair moist through various natural oils because hairs are like flowers, or you could use products like "Regaine" which Matthew Mccougnahay uses, or you could go for a full-blown hair-transplant. I could never accept going bald, my hair is thick and curly like that guy from Entourage, it defines me, a symbol of who I am. I swear the first bald spot I see I'm going to run to my nearest clinic and get the most professional doctors to fix my hair, and afterwards would construct stone statues with their faces on them in my garden.
  19. Amisom is still guilty of the 2008/9 shelling of residential neighbourhoods that killed thousands, they are no different from the Ethiopians before them. Just because the international community through policies like the arms embargo are forcing the Somali government to be dependent on foreign mercenaries won't change the unanimous sentiment amongst Somalis that they are a foreign imposed force answering to foreigners, and eating up funds that could have gone to re-establishing a well-equipped Somali force to deal with a Somali problem, remember that Amisom was parachuted there after the illegal invasion by Ethiopia that dislodged a Somali administration that had pacified more land and cities with less troops and resources than Amisom has today, so spare me the herioc sacrifice BS. The Turks on the other hand have been investing in education, healthcare, infrastructure and do not have a single drop of Somali blood on their hands. It's like comparing Apples and Oranges.
  20. How about some media/developmental focus on the old towns, fortresses and castles in Puntland that are currently decaying in the Somali sun instead of displaying a culture that is very much alive and under no threat of imminent extinction? Just a suggestion.
  21. You seem extremely angry and frustrated Marx whenever you reply to a topic of mine, almost resentful/jealous of me. It's interesting to note the difference in replies on a mixed forum compared to SOL, a 'crabs in a bucket' mentality I guess.
  22. Kanye, when I come back from the Gym expect your Concious Music Thread flooded with the most gimmicky songs of all time. Now you've done it
  23. What are you guys trying to achieve with this comical attempt at character assassination of an internet name? I'm a nerd, with twenty missing teeth, balding and rejected by all females in the world! Is that enough character assasination for you? Alright Axmed, now move along with your stash of Porn and let the high-quality members of SOL proceed to make a suggestion for my knot in the series.
  24. Alpha, do you really want me to make more contributions on the Concious Music Thread? I'm pretty sure I will be finishing this fantasy Hexology, and another series set in Seventies Mogadishu in the same time-span it takes you to finish your decade in the making novel; ''The Myth of Multiculturalism - Cultural Diversity and The Rise of Political Correctness''. lololol.
