  1. I once said a mega-city like Tokyo could fit 500 times in a country the size of Somalia, this has given me a broader persepective of the potential that is Somalia, and what is actually needed, and what can be allowed to go its seperate ways. Recently I've become sick and tired of all these clan-states popping up left and right tearing away at the remaining fabric of Somalinimo with this federalism bs, it's either that or the various brain-dead Somalinet refugees that infiltrated this forum and who are currently in a comical fashion threatening that they are five miles from eachothers pathetic little clan headquarters must have tipped something within me. This is the African Century, these walking clan-zombies will never get us to the top of our potential, they don't possess minds of their own, but blindly follow pathetic clan-chieftains like groupies follow The Rolling Stones. Somalia doesn't need them, it only needs one city full of visionary men and women, that wish to succeed in life, and whose only clan is the Somali Republic. A place that attracts the best and the brightest of the Somali World, a place that will build and attract Somali conglomerates, a place that will absorb the 500 thousand Somali orphans in the country and shape them into Pan-Somalists, a place that attracts the hundreds of thousands of refugees that have come accostumed to the fact that their clan is worth sh!t when it comes to their safety and standards of living. A place where the Somali heroes and heroines of the fifties, sixties and seventies can come and retire peacefully in their last days on earth. A place that is self-sufficient and advanced, a real metropolis. I have an inner feeling that tells me peace will be achieved in the next two years, but war will erupt five years later, because the brain-dead chieftains rather see the country destroyed instead of their own clans, and this is unacceptable. After all the sacrifices made by the Pan-Somalists of the past, for their memory to be savaged for another twenty years is utterly shameful, hence the dream of these men and women should instead be honoured in the form of a unified Pan-Somali metropolis known as Pax-Somalica. Let the current Somalia disintergrate into a thousand states, let them all secede, but on one condition and that is; they will return the billions and billions of dollars worth of infrastructure back to the Somali Republic that will be confined to this single mega-metropolis i.e Pax Somalica. With this I mean the thousands of miles of roads and highways, the multiple deepsea ports, the airport infrastructure, etc that was build under the Somali Republic, a construction feat the clan-states have yet to emulate. The seaport infrastructure transported to the new metropolis could be combined into one to become the largest seaport in Africa, the metropolis per square mile would have the most roads and paved streets of any city in Africa, and the airport would have the largest runways. This would give Pax-Somalica a significant edge on the international markets and attract a large amount of FDI comparable to 70s Singapore and South Korea. Just to put it in persepective, metropolises like Hong Kong or Singapore are a thousand times smaller than the region that is East Africa, but their combined GDP is larger than all of East Africa put together! In the past Somali metropolises like Medieval Mogadishu were what the above Asian cities are today. Hubs of prosperity, and commerce, with a grand international reputation, which is exactly what the Somali people desperately need today. A fortress of solitude, that is always open to any Somali on the planet who destroys the slave-shackles of their clans, so they may enter the city-gates of Pax-Somalica as free individuals, and not remain servants of illiterate men that get their heads poured over with camel-milk. No more trying to debate the concept of Somalinimo to anyone, if you don't believe in it, macsalaama walaal, have a good life amongst your clan. No more grovelling to any political entity, if they prefer to be ignorant of our god-given potential, they should be allowed to stay ignorant, only embrace those interested in Pax-Somalica without pre-conditions of any kind. There are millions of great Somali individuals who deep down know they should be leading better lives, and the Pax-Somalica metropolis would be their safehaven.

    I wonder!

Quick feet, that's what they used to call me, do they still? I wonder! Fifty days I have been denied to enter the Kingdom of Nutrition, how many more to come? I wonder! Can a mind live without its body, can a fish live without water? I wonder! What happened to father and baby Aisha, did they make it to Mogadishu? I wonder! Where is mommy, have the masked men released her yet? I wonder! Lady famine hugs me and my brother, the touch is cold, is she our mother now? I wonder! Flashlight, a picture is taken, what will the world think of me? I wonder! Do they know after doing chores for my father in the farm, I used to play football until the sun set? I wonder! Do they know my brother, lying in front of me, was the youngest muezzin in town, and has the voice of an angel? I wonder! School will begin soon, I miss my class-mates,...where did the masked men's trucks take them to? I wonder! I liked teacher Hassan, he was nice,....what did the masked men do to him in the open field? I wonder! I am tired, will I live to see another day? I wonder! Will I wake up tommorow and discover it was all just a bad dream? I.........I hope so!
  5. I agree with everything you said Blessed, and my observation of the Asian community was purely anecdotal, but my whole point really is that we don't have a uniform modern popular culture that most communities have, but slowly one is beginning to form, and Somalis are feeling comfortable being Somali and dressing accordingly. If you read some of the pre-2002 SOL topics, its like you landed in Hiphop-planet.com, while in 2006, I perused various Islamic forums, and most of the time the Somali members there tried to be more Saudi or Pakistani than the Pakistani and Saudi members themselves. I find such self-degradation embarrassing, because Allah swt created various nations and tribes so that we may celebrate our diversity, not put one above the other. I might look creepy praising the hijabified sisters through pictures, but I don't care, the sisters with hijabs should know they are beautiful, that they are cool, modern and fashionable, even if their intention behind wearing it is solely to honour our creator. The ajanabis surely aint stopping themselves from praising scarfless sisters in dozens of topics filled with stolen images.
  6. Listening to Somali Music is like tasting strawberries covered in cream through your ears. The classic pentatonic platform launches you into an outerspace of galactic melodies and cosmic voices that can only be described as angelic and extraterrestial. It has the power to turn a non-enthusiast of world-music into an addict, for Somali songs are like viagra-pills sustaining a life-long eargasm; a morphine that neutralizes your daily woes, and delivers a trance of everlasting joy, for as long as the song is playing. It should be illegal.
  7. I love the Somali people, their history, heritage, cuisine, architecture, literature, and hospitality.

  11. The way the little sister looks at the little brother reminds of my childhood days when a Dutch girl for two months straight followed me around on a bike with that same stare, trying to find out where I lived. I didn't want her to know, but at the same time it was difficult getting rid of her because she was fast as hell on the bike too. One day I decided to hit her on the shoulders and yelled 'ga weg!! Nu!!!' lol and never saw her again, which is strange because it was a small town.
  12. The above would crumble in the face of any of the regional armies including Djibouti, because it lacks heavy hardware like tanks and jets. Only a unified Somali Army can sustain kingpin status, and project serious power. Puntland: 20 000 troops Somaliland: 20 000 troops Khatumo: 10000 troops Galmudug: 10000 troops South: 30 000 troops = 90 000 Somali troops, a lean and mean mechanised fighting force. However they are blocking the return of a strong Somali army for obvious reasons. I think if you give Somalis the military hardware of Libya or even Botswana they'll overrun the region as they did in the past. Somalis should play nice for a decade, get as much military manufacturing knowledge, and start churning out their own tanks and jets. This makes war actually a positive because it causes the economy to grow due to all the jobs that is generated by the build up.
  13. You need to create an outdoor lifestyle brother. Cut those 125 inch long nails you have been pounding against the keyboard for so long, then visit a farm and secure a spot between the line of sheep and the goats for a nice shave from the farmer. Then take a shower, put on some fresh clothing, then buy a guitar and join one of those native American musical bands you see in every European railway station or mall. That should cover 30 days.

Since then I have been mistaken for Arnold Swahsbchnegger a couple of times.

Also, the potrayal oof the status of Muslim women and Muslim societies has little to do with political stability, I'm often asked the weirdest questions about live in the UAE, but I wasn't arguing that. Wadani said that our women are strong and I agreed, saying that it was down to the strength of our grandmothers not women lib as some would argue these days. I've had my views dismissed as being influenced by western feminism in this very board on numerous occasions, for example. Let's agree to disagree. I do think that if major Muslim countries like Saudi Arabia weren't so draconian towards their female population, there would be very little these journalists could sensationalize about. In our case, the 'helpless Somali woman' only started post 1991, when the rights of the average citizen significantly eroded and a diaspora was created, before that the statue of Xawo Tako - the only female honoured with a statue in Africa at the time - was a vivid reminder to all foreign vistors of the strength and involvement of women in Somalia's society and history. Today the likes of Al-Shabaab aren't doing us any favours either, but even then you still have the likes of Dr Hawa Abdi. Same with the Taliban, just look at Afghanistan in the 50s/60s: http://www.foreignpolicy.com/articles/2010/05/27/once_upon_a_time_in_afghanistan#14
  16. *Blessed;821817 wrote: He says he needs the best guards in town to make sure men do not burst in and rape the women, and to stop suicide bombers from striking. Sensationalism at it's best. Blah. Sorry dear sister, but its not! Remember they're referring to the Mogadishu Gym, not the Hargeisa Gym. It would be gullible for us to believe now that Mogadishu is relatively stable that the criminal elements that in the past did unspeakable things even inside holy sanctuaries like the masjid, would pass up an unguarded gym full of women, even in stable areas of Somalia you still have a few demonic creatures that prey on displaced women in unguarded areas. The fact that the gym is protected by a group of guards is a great initiative and a visible deterrence. As for women rights, and how our culture is being portrayed, its completely in our hands. Somali women voted in national elections before women in Switzerland did. There was absolutely nothing western journalists could say against the Somali Republic, the involvement of women in the work force was high, under the 1975 law they had the same rights as men in the nuclear family, they made up a large percentage of the student body, and the military. Even with cliche subjects like FGM the journalists would only find a positive story because the Old Republic was on top of things with one of the biggest eradication campaigns. Heck, Somalia according to academics was poised to be the first country in Africa with a female head of state. That's the type of global hype we generated. Western journalists will do, what they do; portray the non-west as exotic, strange and decadent. That's because they got their house in order, maybe its time we did same?
  17. Archdemos;821836 wrote: Sounds like a story of a homosexual Abdi who attempts to save his little sister from the evils of FGM. So damn cliched. Maybe I've jumped the gun but channel 4 do love their LGBT agenda. LOL never saw it that way. I'm not going to promote that! Let them cast Woldemicheal or Adebisi for that role.

  20. Quality is good, however the editing is horrible and confusing, is this a real 'short film' or a 'trailer'? Secondly the male actor looked into the camera several times, that's basically breaking the fourth wall. The female actor is superb and believable, however the camera angles were akward and took away from the dialogue. The trick is for the audience to believe they are a fly on the wall, and not holding the camera themselves.
