so stop acting ignorant and process this fact.

You need to understand, my friend, and if you are not willing to understand, you need to accept that the somali O-gadenian is big enough to demand what he wants and is strong enough to go and get what he wants himself.

ohh please i do not underestimate the strength of my people in SomaliGalbeed and i know 100% sure if it wasn't for your western Sugar daddy's arming you since the 90's my Somali brothers from O-gaden would have seperated themselves from your kind with ease

My somali Brother in O-gadenia just like Somalia uses the Somali Shilling

    SoSh(somali shilling)

the SoSh's stability is reflected by the fact that in parts of neighboring Ethiopia the SoSh is more extensivly used than Ethiopia's own currency (:2003 :144) In fact prior to the last large monetary injection in Somalia in march 1999 and in 2000 the SoSh showed greater stability than the currencies of Ethiopia and Kenya from 1996 february to 1999 the SoSh depreciated against the US$ only 12.14% Between 1996-1999 the Kenyan shilling lost 32.55% against the US$ and the Ethiopian birr depreciated against the dollar 26.58%

    simply because..

Six Ethiopian soldiers who arrived here opposing the racist policy of the TPLF regime disclosed that at a time when resistance is gaining momentum within the Army, the regime is resorting to increased atrocities by imprisoning members of different ethnic groups.

They noted that many Ethiopian soldiers are defecting to different opposition organizations and fleeing to neighboring countries opposing the brutal and harsh measures the TPLF regime is taking against members of the Army.

The number of diplomats defecting from Ethiopian embassies throughout the world has been significantly increasing. According to a list compiled by reliable sources defection among non-TPLF affiliated diplomats is increasing day by day. It is estimated that over 100 diplomats applied for political asylum in Europe and the United States in the last few months.

Ambassador Hanfare Alimirah was a Charge D’Affaires; Extraordinary & Plenipotentiary in Kuwait. Another diplomat, Mesfin Mideksa, first Secretary in Brussels has reportedly been in Maryland, USA meeting with lawyers to facilitate his asylums.

Dr. Biruk Hailu, Plenipotentiary and Ato Gizachew Bizuayehu, Counselor in Paris have been reportedly left the regime for political asylums in the USA. According to our sources from India, another diplomat, Eyerusalem Bekele, secretary in India has also defected Meles Zenawi's brutal regime.

Sixty-two diplomats and staff members from various Ethiopian Embassies and Consular Offices left their job over the last three months. The total number of diplomats who left the regime after the May 2005 election is more than twice than the number in this list, which is believed to constitute nearly 75% of the diplomatic staff.

Two commission members, who were assigned by Meles Zenawi’s “Inquiry Commission” to investigate the massacres against demonstrators in June and November 2005, have reportedly left for Germany with all documents which expose the regime itself of using excessive force against civilians.

EMF (Washington)- Wife of Kassahun Ayele, TPLF Ambassador to the United States of America has decided not to return back home to protest the gross human right abuses by Meles regime, sources said. His wife w/o Haregewein Abebe and his two doughters will remain in the United States but the fate of Kassahun Ayele is not yet known.

EMF (Amsterdam)- The TPLF Ambassador to London, Ato Fisseha Adugna, has defected to the USA, a reliable source told EMF.

This confirms the suspicions that something was about to happen since Ato Fisseha had recently sent away his wife, son & daughter to the USA.

Also the Press Officer at the Ethiopian Embassy in London, Ato Wagaye Birhanu, also defected to America two weeks ago. The former Press Officer at the Ethiopian Embassy in London, Ato Efrem Mehrete-Ab has also defected and sought political asylum in the USA. Read More ...

Ato Fisseha is an important member of the establishment having served 8 years as a councilor in USA Ethiopian embassy prior to five years as ambassador in London.

This is good news for those struggling for the oppressed people of Ethiopia, as it confirms the gradual breakdown of the Meles brutal regime.

Several reports are coming to EMF that confirms the defect of top government officials.

    TPLF Diplomats in Holland

Two professional diplomats have also defected earlier from the Netherlands that made the activity of the office very difficult. Source close to the consulate office in The Hague told EMF that the consular is stuffing its office with persons who do not have work permit in the Netherlands, the criteria being only their ethnic identity. Other diplomats in The Hague, including loyal TPLF servant Ato Mohamed Berhan (Zimam, Alex and Nohomi) are sending their families to London. This indicates that the remaining members of the consular are also preparing to defect the Meles regime.

    Top Diplomats

Diplomat Workyie Birye, a chief Ethiopian councilor at European Union has defected to USA to protest Meles crackdown on dissidents.

    Ethiopian partnership delegation seeks asylum

Four Ethiopian politicians who were on an official visit to Dublin have applied for asylum rather than return home, it emerged today.

The men were on a six-day visit to launch a partnership between their towns, Werabe and Butajira, and South Dublin County Council.

The council said its officials had gone to meet the men on March 27 when they were due to fly home to Ethiopia.

“Unfortunately they didn’t turn up for that meeting and we subsequently discovered they had applied for asylum in Dublin,” said spokesman Abe Jacob.

The partnership programme was designed to build up the skills and experience of government officials in Ethiopia in delivering services.

According to the Irish Examiner, the four men are from the ruling party in Ethiopia and had been staying at the Clarion Hotel in Dublin.

The Ethiopian Embassy has expressed its embarrassment about the development and has contacted the council to seek its continued support for the partnership.

“The universal view is that we should continue with the project, that the project is bigger than any set of individuals. We’re determined to press ahead with the project,” said Mr Jacob.

    Ethiopian officer defects to Germany

Sept 24, 2006 (BERLIN) — Defections in the Ethiopian armed forces continue unabated. The latest to defect is Maj. Tesfaye Yemane, an officer in the Ethiopian army, the opposition Ethiopian Review website reported.

Maj. Tesfaye told Germany radio (Deutsche Welle) the Amharic service Wednesday 20 September that he is seeking political asylum in Germany, where he was taking a six-month course.

Tesfaye, who served in the army for 15 years, said that he decided to defect because the atrocities the Meles regime is currently perpetrating on the people of Ethiopia has bothered his conscience.

Several other officers are taking various steps in opposition to the injustice by the regime against the people, Tesfaye said in his interview with Germany radio.

He added, the people of Ethiopia are currently living in a hell-like condition.

In the past two months alone, two generals, several colonels, and other high-ranking officers have defected, and most of them joined member organizations of the Alliance for Freedom & Democracy.

Brig. Gen. Kemal Geltu defected to Eritrea with with 150 Ethiopian soldiers on 10 August. Since, he was followed by several defections.

Ethiopian officers who joined the OLF

    Sep 18, 2006, 17:56

Asmara, 18 September 2006 - Two senior Ethiopian Army officers who recently joined the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF) abandoning the TPLF regime said that serving the repressive regime is a historical crime.

In an interview with Eritrean Television, Brig. General Hailu Gonfa, who was a senior official in the Ethiopian Defense Ministry and Col. Gemechu Ayana, commander of the 8th Mechanized Force said that the Ethiopian people have gone through untold suffering over the past 15 years and that they have been repeatedly putting forth demands to alter such a state of affairs but to no avail. The two senior army officers went on to say that as their demand fell on deaf ears, they were compelled to raise up arms against the regime and thus join the popular struggle.

    Brigadier General Hailu Gonfa

    12_Ethiopians_defect_clip_image001.jpg

They stressed that the Army being part of the people should serve a popularly elected government and not individuals. The two officers further pointed out that as the majority of members the Ethiopian Army have come to understand this way of thinking, they are being subjected to heinous repression on the part of TPLF cadres.

Stating that the regime is making futile attempts to pit the Ethiopian people against one another on the basis of nationality, ethnicity and regionalism so as to prevent them from fostering unity, Brig. General Hailu Gonfa disclosed that this same divisive policy is being practiced by cadres within the Army who have no sense of patriotism at all.

    Colonel Gemechu Ayana

    12_Ethiopians_defect_clip_image002.jpg

Recalling the defeat of the TPLF in the 2005 elections, Col. Gemechu Ayana emphasized on his part that serving this illegal clique is a historical crime, and as such it is naive to think that such a brutal regime would change its ways.

In a message they conveyed to the Ethiopian people, the two senior Army officers called on the population to continue their resistance in an intensified manner. They particularly reminded the country’s Armed Forces to direct their weapons against the bloodthirsty regime

Puntland police arrest sheikh who called for jihad

BOSSASO, Somalia Nov 27 (Garowe Online) - Police authorities in the self-governing Puntland regions of northern Somalia detained a local Islamic preacher Sunday evening after he reportedly incited listeners to action in his latest religious sermon.

Sheikh Dahir O’Ahmed was picked up from Al-Huda Mosque in Bossaso by Puntland police after his sermon, witnesses reported.

In his evening speech, the sheikh called upon followers to wage “jihad” against Ethiopian troops on Somali soil.

Puntland officials declined to comment on the arrest.

A recent UN report estimated Ethiopian troops inside Somalia to be as high as 8,000 soldiers, even though Addis Ababa denies such high figures.

Ethiopia is allied to the Baidoa-based interim Somali government, which was created in 2004 after peace talks in Kenya.

Puntland, the home region of Somali President Abdullahi Yusuf, is seen as one of the key backers of the interim government.

today i feel proud to be Somali

Somalis, particularly those who still follow the traditional nomadic life, have a profound interest in, and knowledge of the weather, the stars and planets, and their penetrating effects upon the lives of this people. This is reflected in the language itself, which contains a large number of sayings, riddles and songs which link astronomical phenomena to events in nomadic life with which they are associated. I was myself a camel herder when I was a boy, and I recall many of these sayings and songs. They have always interested me, and during my life I have collected very many more.

There are for example phrases, in the language (especially, those in replying to a greeting) that closely associate the weather and the well being of my people: such as the Dabayl Caafimmad, the breeze of health and tranquility. Nabaad iyo naq-roobaad, peace and the greenness that follows rain. Bash-bash iyo barwaako, this term has the underlying phonetic representation of waterlogged undergrowth which has soaked up recent heavy rains and means a period of plenty and prosperity, for all'.

Some terms are deeply allusive: Abaar iyo oodo-lullul, meaning in the vicinity of a drought, also lurks the rattling or shacking of one's thorn-fence. The image here is of drought -stricken nomads who have lost all their livestock and try to force their way into the corrals of those more fortunate ones who still have cattle, or other livestock left.

There are moreover, countless songs in Somali traditionally sung to girls, to camels or to cattle which link astronomical phenomena, as observed omens, to years of prosperity or drought, to the deaths of important persons, to wars or storms. This song I remember clearly from my youth:

Xaydho-dayihii, Kuu xiddiginjirey, Xareed bardiyo, Xays inoo sheeg.

    (My beautiful camels)

    The reader of the Xaydho,¹

Who is also the expert on stars,

Announces a long-lasting supply of rainwater,

An unexpected season of heavy rain

Note: 1. Xaydho, this term refers to the fat that covers the stomach of the goats. This fat was used in the past by the Somalis for telling the future. It was removed from the goat and held to the light. Inductions were then made from looking at the inside of the fat – about the weather, wars, rain, etc.

ok that makes sense cause i couldn't find anything about the person behind the statue

it would be nice if we had a nice written story to go behind the statue don't you think?

when i master af somali i will keep diggin for more info

Halyeey Xaawo Taako is one one of the best known figures from that dhacdo [event]. I don't know where she was born, but I think inay ku dhalatay Jubbada Hoose.

Halyeey Xaawo Taako's sole quest was she literally have given up her life to Soomaalinimo and her bravery and geesinimo. Iyadoo nafta ka baxeysay ayee dhagax wali tuureysay against the colonial Talyaaniga, who wanted loo badiyo the mandate and their stooge supporters. She also sold what meager personal possesions she had to support the nationalist parties, particularly SYL. She was a true, epitomic nationalist.

    -i heard about her bravery

    -i heard about her patriotisme

-i heard about her leadership to other somali women and to somali men

-i heard about her noble sacrifice

    but never

    - when she was born? / when she died (some say she died in 48')

-never seen evidence that's she really held a baby and a Ak47 at the same time when protesting (or some other weapon from the 40's/50's)

-never seen A photo of her ( cause there are pics of somali people in the 50's) (least thing somali people today could do is take a picture of beautiful somali sista protesting and turn it into a black and white picture and claim that's her :D )

oh yeah does anyone have a clear picture of her statue

    soomaaliya.gif

in this ''gif'' you can see a nice shot of her statue( not the 2 miles away from the picture shot i always saw of her lol)

does anyone know how i can snatch the picture from the ''gif'' :D ??

There was also another taalo, not known by many, dedicated to Macalin Jaamac. It was a beautiful taalo, asagoo buug aqrinaayo waliba.

    booqasho2.jpg

Daljirka Dahsoon, like Dhagaxtuur, was an event. Its monument, above, still stands in Xamar. I think it was a collective memorial dedicated to Soomaalis who died for their liberation of their lands. I am not sure, though. Some say it is our equivalent version of
    Unknown Soldier
, dedicated to those who fought the liberation wars of Soomaalida. [/QB]

thanks i hadn't seen the statue only heard about the name

thanks for the info sxb appreciate it

  7. no sxb i ment as in it was a arabic written quraan only this one was from Somalia and by a ''somali''

i tried google but can't find it

    it looked nice :(

  8. oromo brother there are chinese words that have a somali origin so your right it could well be the ''reverse'' when it comes to cushtic/arabic words because of the trade network in the past

    MMA LOL @Daa'uud Waraaqle

i'm not saying it couldn't have been an original somali word but the fact that many languages have the same word with the same type of meaning makes me skeptical about it

and unlike the chinese the arabs(read ''arabs'' not ''muslims'') have a tendency to claim being the father of everything

there are many somali words that have the same meaning as ancient egyptian words but in reality that doesn't mean anything since..

    -Cushtic(Somali,Oromo,Afar,Beja)

    -Ancient Egyptic(fircoons)

    -Semetic(Ethiopian, Middle Eastern)

    -Chadic

    -Berber

    -Omotic

Djibouti has the most superior port in the Horn of Africa

keep denying this it don't matter

when our ports are on the same level as our brothers and sisters in Djibouti then we can talk about competition

Somali_Friend i know it's messed up paying those High fees to use djibouti's port like Seyoum Mesfin said but the fact of the matter is you messed up with Assab.

    tough luck

    that's life my friend
