  1. Siren when i was in Yemen i didn't let my female siblings out of my sight, not for a second, and i'm not a control freak just a guy looking out for the safety of his sisters. Arab countries and even Japan are notorious for sexual harrassment against 'foreign women', and this is why i said you guys dont belong there because you and your girls could go to a hundred western restaurants and you still wont have the same bad experience as C&H had at that Shisha joint(say what you want to say about 'Western culture' but this is one thing i admire about the west). Why would you put yourself in potential danger by entering cultural spheres that are inherent chauvanistic and masculine? Fact is if your brothers or Somali male friends accompanied you or C&H in those 'shady places' you would never have gotten those type of reactions. I'm not trying to lock you up anywhere, my father never restricted my mother from going anywhere she pleases, the fact that she invited her friends for Shaah, xalwo and a closet full of gossip or left to one of her friends houses to do the same, instead of going to a restaurant full of strangers is by no means a sign of 'male oppression' but simply 'Somali culture' Youngsters see everything 'Somali culture' as 'oppression' these days, i dont get it.
  2. I'm going to send you a long list. keep an eye on your inbox.
  3. Chocolate&Honey - Imagine a group of Yemeni girls entering a Somali Marfiish ordering several bundles of Khat and then imagine them chewing it right in front of the Somali male population, what would the Somali male reaction be? I've never been to a Marfiish or ever chewed that Satanic plant but if i saw that group of Yemeni girls entering one and i was one of those corrupt characters high on Khat, i would think they were a bunch of 'loose women' and probably would hit on them ALOT Thats how men are programmed You might think this is different to your story, but fact is you guys don't belong there. Somali women like Yemeni women have their own domain and that's eachother houses where the only men are your relatives( or your friends relatives). If i was single a Disco/club/Shishajoi nt/Marfiish would be the last places on earth i would look for a girl.

  7. They are talking about a timeperiod that predates all modern ethnic groups on this planet including their ancestors (and their ancestor's ancestors), this is way up there, so its not wise to use comparatively 'modern' terms like 'Arabs' or 'Somalis' when discussing pre-historic human migrations. Interesting nevertheless, thanks!
  8. Awesome movie, I believe that if a movie based on a marvel comic feels like your watching a episode of the 90s animated series then it's a success in my opinion, some examples would be Spiderman 1&2, Fantastic Four 1&2, Dark Knight, Hulk II and the X-men trilogy Wolverine in my opinion can join this line up because it reminded me of that 90s X-men saga where he leaves the X-men and joins some eskimo tribe in the Pacific and is followed by Sabretooth(remember when they fight in the North or South pole, somewhere icy?) and that texas Gambit did resemble the frenchy type in attitude, so good job especially the special effects. Only negative point would be the lack of explanation with regards to the son that's turned into Weapon X, i don't want to spoil it for those who havent seen it, so i'll leave it at that. Nin Yaaban if you want to see bad movie adaptions of comics just watch Daredevil, Elektra and the first Hulk movie, terrible.

  13. Somali youth play chess to promote peace Somali youths will have yet another thing to pass their tough times and perhaps develop their mental capacities and promote peace as schools in Mogadishu now started to hold regular chess contests among their students, thanks to an initiative by local schools chess association. The first of its kind, the contests which kicked off on Thursday bring together chess players from a number of schools in Mogadishu who will be competing one another for the next week. Held in Mogadishu, the opening ceremony was attended by senior Somali government officials including the Deputy Speaker of Somali parliament Omar Dalha, head of Somalia's Olympic Committee, Aden Haji Yeberow Wiish, and the leader of Somalia's Chess Federation, Ahmed Abdi Hassan Wata. Somalia Chess Federation which is a member of the International Chess Federation has organized the event for the local Mogadishu Schools Chess Association, the only schools chess organization in the war-torn country. Sports is very much appreciated in the chaotic country where most of the facilities have either been destroyed or changed into military bases by the warring sides in the Somali civil conflict that raged for the past two decades. "Chess is not only a sport and past time but is also a mental exercise that will definitely stimulate the young brain and we hope this will contribute to the healthy development of our young people, and promote peace in our country" Said wata, the top official of Somali Chess Federation, as he spoke during the opening ceremony of the Mogadishu Schools Chess Contest. Other dignitaries who spoke at function praised the Somali Chess Federation for its initiative to organizes the chess contest and for encouraging the youth to take up the sport which many of the officials, agreed help promote peace in the war torn country. Dozens of enthusiastic young students from different schools soon started tussling at each other as they pondered over the chess board and made their deliberate and thought of moves to checkmate their opponent. "I have been practicing chess for the past several months for this contest and I am very hopeful that I will win over my opponent in this game," Twelve year old Muse Ali, said as he made his move. Parents and teachers were watching over the games anxiously and urging the students as they played the game which one of the teachers attending said would help the young not only enjoy the sport and improve their mental capacity but it will help move them away from the fighting and wars currently going in their country. "This is what will help them divert their attention from the bad things that are going all around them and help them get along will each other," Yasin Omar, a teacher at the contest told Xinhua. "We hope all the schools in Somalia would take to chess and allow their students to play this very important game that will be of benefit not only to them but to society in general," Omar added. This is the first time but will not be the last time, promises Wata, such contest is organized for schools in Somalia where the national education system and sport have been destroyed by two decades of civil war in the Horn of African country. 21. An open question to Somalis: What happened to your heroes? For lack of a common African language, and in humility for using alien language as English is to us Africans, I will try to ask my Somali brothers and sisters a simple question in simple English words. And I will answer it without prejudice What happened to your heroes? Human development, as complex as it was for times of history behind us, the rolling crust of events and it’s consequences left many traces of actualities that we all reflect back and wonder how matters inspired and transpired as we seek answers. Some times to very simple questions. To begin with, I will not attempt to revisit what a worn out African excuse for being the roots of our common illnesses. The excuses that it is the white man’s fault. From colonial to cold wars to what is now evident in keeping much of Africa under the rule of cruel dictators and criminals such as our Meles Zenawi who will do and play every possible twist in the bad books of how best to scare and serve foreigners that keep pumping billions of dollars into Africa, nothing for the better but for the only sense of playing dice of on the lives of our people. Save for emergencies and short term catastrophes that need humanitarian help such as droughts, tsunamis, some epidemics and earth quakes as the only legitimate incidents that needs urgent help but with clear exit strategy. Otherwise Africa needs to get over with what happened decades ago and must stand on it’s feet. The first key to this is to kick out the Western aid, political and strategic influence. The most destructive element which many experts agree is the curse of Africa at large. As for Somalia, Melez played the best of the books of strategic exploitation of the sad settings of the Somali tribal structure and the power struggle fueled by many competing factors in the Somali theater. Ethiopians knew Somalis as the hardest nuts to break. As some of the most resilient human beings any one knows in Africa. Men and women of bravery and deep nationalism. We feared Ziad Bari, the man many Ethiopian generals believe as the last true Somali. Every single Ethiopian child of the last 30 years or so grew up hearing this Mighty man who can move mountains of people in one go and crush mighty Ethiopia in a matter of two weeks to the ground. Those brilliant strategic planners as Omer Arteh Kalib that put Ethiopian diplomats in New York at the UN down in shame and rendered them childish swindlers. Brave Somali generals as we Ethiopians learned their names by heart. General Dawood and General Ahmad Terza. Despite the historical animosity between Ethiopia and Somalia, I was one of the privileged Ethiopian students who sought and found refuge under Somalia’s beautiful flag of mercy and strength. Mengistu was able to snatch Ethiopian students from Sudan, Kenya, and Djibouti at will while those in Somalia were safe and sound. Meles was a beneficiary of Somali hero’s. And what he do? Taking advantage of the time when Somalia was just emerging from the dark and invaded it. The answer to this simple question is : Enemies of Somalia, it’s neighbors , Ethiopia and Kenya who were the only black rulers who benefited from the scrambles of Africa will never sleep a minute without liquidating Somalia beyond existence. The other factor is the UNDP which is now the defector Somalia ruler. It is the UNDP and international NGO’s who basically control the Somalis. And why would they want Somalia to have a government when they have it? It was the most shameful of all events I have ever seen, to see a UNDP officers and as recent as the last Somalia conference in Brussels that instead of Somali government officials took the stand to literally speak on behalf of Somalia and present Somalia’s “needs” to the donors. And where does the money go? To keep the wheel of Somalia’s downfall spin for ever. My conclusion: For what ever it takes, Somalis should get rid of this UNDP seduced purported parliamentarians. Get rid of UNDP rule. Get rid of Western aid . Get rid of the warlords. Get rid of the extremism-lords – they bring you no good. Build your courage in the spirit of your tradition, your peaceful faith. Build your Somalia that which stands on the feet and brains of your educated intellectuals. Create division of labor. Let the Sheikhs keep the peace, security and let them make every one accountable including themselves. Loosing a nation is worse than cutting a few hands and few lashes. If that keeps the peace. so be it. Let them not deal with politics. The rhetoric of invading Ethiopia and Kenya is food for Meles and others. Don’t go the slippery slopes. Somalia is now in the wrongs hands at the right time since the last few months. Put your intellectuals in the political and professional posts. Not the Sheikhs. And last but not least, initiate What ever it takes to curb Qat. Do it. Educate your young against Qat chewing. It feeds Meles Zenawi and the pockets of your enemies. Finally, lay tribute and respect to your fallen heroes of the past. It will be a healing process. May I also say that the roots of our problems in Africa, what ever is going on, is firmly explained here : http://www.dambisamo yo.com let us get rid of the aid slavery. It brought us nothing but misery. Somalia Hanulatu ! Girma Gizaw Girma.gizaw@gmail.co m Link His Siyaad Barre Romanticism aside, he makes a good point! Something i have been wondering for a long time. These creatures that have hi-jacked our people and country, are they Gog and Magog?
