Originally posted by Cara: I honestly would feel flattered if someone said that about me, so I don't see what the fuss is all about. It's ridiculous that in this day and age, people still think the only true validation for a woman is her looks  Adam, weren't you going gaga about that other Somali model a few months ago? Isn't she also "getting naked" to succeed? How is this Naked?, i've yet to come across an image of Yasmin that is as distasteful as the schocking ones i've seen being posted on Somali forums of Iman. but in principle yes they are the same and this is why i'm engaged to a Med-queen and not an average looking model. Frankly, I know very little about Iman and don't plan to learn anymore, but your attacks on her are a little confusing. Did she tarnish the incredibly flattering image of Somalia? Is the world suddenly getting a negative vibe from the Horn of Africa that trumps the usual images of starving children, rank stup!dity and general lawlessness? Your zealous patriotism is welcome, but occasionally it's healthy to get some perspective, son. Iman doesn't have to spin tall tales to convince the world that we are a pack of savages. 18 years of murder and mayhem speak for themselves. Calm down Cara, i really don't care about what the world thinks, screw them, my issue is with Iman's popularity amongst Dhalinyarada and the fact that she is actually considered a person worth emulating while female role models more worthy than her are overlooked(maybe i should start a thread about them and see if its as popular as this one?).

Sabriya - Ayaan & Iman are one in the same both serve western audiences in different ways, Ayaan went Salman Rushdi on us, while Iman like the article said allowed herself to be abused by being portrayed as a Savage girl from the Jungle, it bothers me that sisters actually look up to this weak minded character and think she is worth defending or worse emulating. maybe it's simply due to ignorance of their true female rolemodels such as scientists, entrepreneurs, engineers, Heroines who didn't have to go naked to succeed in life, that would make them feel this way. Her remarks didn't offend me because the American first lady means nothing to me.

two wrong paths don't make a right they are either both Kafiirs or they are both muslims

Ismahaan sorry i promised you a list earlier but i have been busy. There are about 50 historical sites in those two regions combined each with dozens of relics, castles, ruined cities, monuments etc when exactly will you be going?
-
I doubt you would rush to the defense of Ayaan Hirsi the way you do with Iman, nice way at red herring my question btw!
-
Ah yes the terrible Somali man, nobody likes him.
-
Lol@she complimented her, kinda like this right?: Dear, dear Bobby don't cry, yes you are ugly but nobody can dissect a TX-2456 the way you can, cheer up! btw why the hell is she talking about slavery as if we share the same history as African Americans? Sabriya do tell me why you would consider this tramp a 'rolemodel' that needs defending.

Downhill Indeed: I dont get how this self-hating character has become a rolemodel to our sisters when we have dozens of female scientists, entrepreneurs and more accomplished sisters than this character. true mystery.

Originally posted by Sherban Shabeel: In all honesty, I don't know who chewed khat first, but Yemenis have been doing it for centuries (since the 1400's at least). While my previous post was distorted by annoyance at the nature of this thread, the example of the Yemeni woman being looked at strange for chewing khat was just as ignorant. Well considering that Sultan Sabr ad Din of Zeila(Somalia) allready cultivated that plant across East Africa since the 13th/14th century Somalis have been chewing it 'for centuries' aswell. You misinterpreted my point, a marfiish is like one of those golf-clubs where all members are male, the sight of women let alone 'Yemeni women' would be looked at as strange, so it's not that there chewing Khat but that they decided to chew it in a male dominated sphere( and i picked Yemeni women because i know they chew khat). The rest of your post, fair enough! I sincerly apologise to all those offended by any of my posts, wether members or lurkers!

^Put down a date for me to ''accept'' or ''refute'' otherwise retract that condescending paternalistic statement about Yemenis & Somalis and their historical relations with 'Khat'

Your Somali-Italian right? just tell her that.

Cynical - No they dont in my opinion, and i would never ALLOW my future wife or daughters to enter a place like that, without at least several male relatives or friends. You might consider this ''extreme'' well BOO HOO i dont care, if i feel there is potential danger then i will put my foot down just like my fiance put her foot down when i told her i wanted to save for a motorcycle, something she feels is dangerous and i respect that, again BOO HOO if you consider that 'extreme' aswell Secondly i really wonder what Somali Homes look like these days considering this is the second time someone interpreted that part of my post as the equivalance of a correctional facility. The house i grew up in was my mothers domain, every single part of it was her ''baby'' and the martii that came to visit several times a week was a way for my mother to showcase her precious baby to friends she has known since childhood in Somalia. Maybe teens of today have simply lost sight of what is Somali & Islamic culture but i havent, hence my romanticism with traditional Somali houses. You've never been to Yemen hence why you would roll your eyes like that. btw do you even know the definition of hypocrisy? I never been to a Shisha joint and i'm not planning to, so how would i be hypocritical for not wanting someone i care for to go to a shady place like that? NGONGE fair enough.

I admit i quikly shifted through C&H post as i was busy earlier today so i didnt catch that part, i'm suprised that they would act in such a manner in the presence of a male friend. I'm loyal to the principle called 'tit for tat' and probably would have started making jokes about Egyptian women in a situation like that. I really hope what you say is true, Insha-allah may nothing bad happen to you and your mates in places like that. I know a Dutch female classmate whose drink was once spiked in a club, she was violated yet she doesnt remember a thing(she became pregnant), it just shows you the resources these shady characters have at their disposal these days, so becareful.

btw wasnt indoor smoking of 'any kind' outlawed? Did i miss something?
-
Thats good sister! Shady dark places full of smoke are not my thing. Why dont you order those deserts by phone?
