Slurs, assault send Somalis back to city: Winthrop teens face charges, hate probe A Somalian family that left Dorchester for what they thought would be a safer home in Winthrop is headed back to Dorchester after accusing Winthrop High football players of racial harassment and assault. ``We're leaving because my mother is tired of the attacks,'' said Khadija, 17, daughter of Fatuma Abu. Two white teens, members of the Winthrop High School football team, each has been charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and intimidation of a witness. They have not been charged with a hate crime, which carries additional penalties. Winthrop police, the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office and the Attorneys General's Office are investigating the case to evaluate whether hate-crime charges are applicable. The Anti-Defamation League is also investigating. Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel Conley said yesterday, ``If there is any evidence that the victims were targeted because of their race, we will prosecute to the full extent of the law.'' The Somalian family fled their war-torn homeland seven years ago for a better life in Boston. They lived in Roxbury and Dorchester until last month, when Abu, 38, concerned about inner-city crime, decided to find a safer place to raise her family of seven. But within days of moving to Winthrop, the assaults and harassment started, family members said. Mohamed Mohamed, 16, said the perpetrators yelled racial slurs and told him to ``go back to where you came from.'' Andy Tarsy, the executive director of the ADL's Northeast region, said, ``Even if it's not a hate crime under the law, the fact that someone would use racist language or slurs, that's a problem. The measure of a healthy community is not whether incidents of bigotry happen, but how they respond to it.'' Virginia Wilder, the executive secretary for the Winthrop Selectman, and Steven Jenkins, the superintendent of Winthrop Schools, did not return calls from the Herald yesterday. The defendants are scheduled for a pretrial conference in Chelsea District Court on Oct. 20.

A lot has being said since the last time i posted a message.what a debate. There is points that i do agree with SB, there should be seperation between state and religion. There should be no SL in the west.try that in the Muslim world. the prophet (SAW) was fallible.there is no dought about that and the sheriah is not out dated law. There is no problem with sheriah law but there is no real enforcers.Til the day scholars become just and fair let state and religion be seperate. -

I still stand by my comments seperation od state and religion.this is the million dollar question. Tell me any muslim country that enforce the shariah and have being so far succesfull and people being happy with it? Apparently there is none. This does not mean that the sheriah is not the right law, but some fanatic, extremist and redicules hajicked the religion by chopping the heads and arms of anyone who view things different than them. A very good example in saudi a man killed his wife and the only person who was present was the dead wifes sister.she reported to the local law enforcement.the matter was transfered to family court and they said one woman was not good enough to be a witness. The poor girl lost her sister and the murder is free in the streets probably looking for another woman to marry.if that is the image other see about sheria law, why do you thing they should bring to the west when when muslims in there country can't get it right.if that khadi would use the modern technology (DNA,Finger prints)to proscute that man, probably canandian muslims wouldn't be worried of mrs manji and likes opposing the sheriah law.islamic law is great, but the enforcers are not.so till we find non extemist who can inplement the sheriah law right, please let it stay at the so called muslim countries and i will wish the a good luck. Mr gate keeper i might be better muslim than you may be you are but like Tupac said only God can judge me but not liiban and his likes. Peace out -

Are you the man at the gate who tells people who is in or out of the religion?can you let me in please? Subxaanallah. He tells you xadiis and now you speak to him like he is something he can never be(which is someone who determines who is a muslim and who is not)?Instead, you should be thanking him.Sounds like you're a real jerk, basically, you're perfect for the marines. Dude don't act like alittle kid insulting others,if you sweating because i gave you my opinion then you shouldn't be debating and find a place where everyone will agree with you. That man was judging SB that he is out of the diin, at the sametime i will tell you there is a hadith that will tell you can judge or tell anyone that he is out of the religion.yep he was acting like he was a gate's keeper. I fit in the Marines, bt you fit in the shallow mindes.take you sharieh where it fits. -

One thing I agree with SB is why don't muslims start the sheriah law in th muslim countries and see how it works? We came to peoples land and we want to change the law of the land.A piece of good advise for the canadian muslims, if the sheria law is rejected and you don't like canada anymore please just go back to whereever you came from.If i am not wrong we all volunterelly came here to the west and left the so called muslim world, and we are asking for sheriah law? Hm!!!! just like i said earlier enforce it in the muslim world first. If it works well believe me the west will adopt it. -

Sorry Ducuqabe and i will say thanks for mentioning the both Jews and Catholics can choose their religious arbitration if they like.i have not read that last few lines of the article.I believe the should be seperation of state and religion, but if they let both Jews and Catholics can choose their religious arbitration if they like then muslim have the right. I was thinking muslims were the first ones to ask for this. Mr O i don't know what part of USA you live in,but no one ask you to ASSIMILATE orforce you to accept homesexuality as being normal, drinking as normal,co-habiting as normal,no parental control as normal, force them to give their children consent to have sex at a young age without marriage. They have their right to do what they want as long it is not harm or danger anyones life. -

Liibaan what made you think that we are wrong?I still stand my point they should be seperation of state and religion.Every country has so many different religion followers and you don't want enforce others on something they don't believe in.if muslims want want rule by sheria let the form a nation for the muslims and we will see what happens.I still stand the canandian muslims shouldn't be given special favour than other religions.let us start sheriah in somalia which claims 99.9% muslim and see how it works. -
Liibaan we can't do that unless they request for help, but the cyber xalimo's i can hear they scream for help.
