Parliamentary Speaker reaffirms stance on Somaliland’s sovereignty HARGEISA (SomalilandPress)—Somaliland’s speaker Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Airo) reaffirmed that Somaliland’s sovereignty is non-negotiable while speaking to the VOA’s Somali service yesterday. Mr. Abdullahi made clear Somaliland’s stance on sovereignty as he spoke with the local press on his way back from Djibouti where he was leading a delegation from Somaliland taking part in celebrations to mark the 34th anniverasy of Djibouti’s independence anniversary from France. Speaker Abdillahi was responding to a statement made by Somalia’s Transitional Federal Government President Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed in which he said southern Somalia was ready to apologise for the atrocities that were committed against the people of Somaliland by the previous Siad Barre government. Speaker Abdullahi is the second Somaliland government official that has thus far responded to President Sheikh Sharif by saying to him thanks but no thanks, making clear that Somaliland will stay sovereign from the rest of Somalia. The Somaliland President has yet to formally respond to President Sheikh Sharif’s statement concerning the apology concerning the atrocities committed throughout the 1980’s.

Parliament passes Seven Members of Human Rights commission Posted on 28/06/2011 in Latest Headlines Somaliland MPs’ yesterday voted in favor of passing overwhelmingly the seven members of Human Rights Commission that the president of Somaliland Mr.Siilaanyo submitted recently to the House of representative. Somaliland (JSLTimes.com) -The session in Somaliland parliament was presided and chaired by the deputy speaker of the parliament Mr. Abdiasis Mohamed Samale. The house consists of eighty two members and fifty two members attended the session. The educational background of the members of the commission were read in the house. The members of Human rights commission gained the same votes where forty nine members of the parliament voted in favor of passing them unanimously. No vote abstain was reported and the acting chairman did not vote. The members of Somaliland National Human Rights commission which the parliament passed are as follows:- 1. First of all we have to note that the leadership of the ssc clan jabhad are diaspora members col Cali sabaray is from canada and Selebaan Xaglatoosiye is from America ohio columbus you must've been asking yourself why is he telling us that we already know that. Other than the clan lineage they share with the garaad clan in the ssc regions they do not share the same political ideology and aspirations with the natives in the ssc regions which is indeed a large portion of territory but in particular the garaad clan as a whole rejected the ssc clan jabhad. They failled to deliver for the people of that region. I remember i was telling a khadar and taleexi a year ago that the people of that region are fine with the current administration in sool ,it was them who rejected the pirate thugs in laascanood in 2007. The widhwidh reconciliation conference was a success the attendees were many the Khusuusi leader the Cayn Administration for the ssc were there and they all accepted peace the elders were there the chief caaqil from Ceegaag was there other caaqils from Buhoodle were there and they all welcomed peace. In the past we had a reconcilation conference with garaad abshir salax but in that shir we did not had any talks with with ssc the armed faction on the ground and this time we did the khusuusi leader is now in laascanood.
