Sudan's army said on Sunday that it had killed a Darfur rebel leader, three days after anti-government forces moved in on the capital Khartoum. Khalil Ibrahim headed the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM), once the most armed group in the Darfur region. The Sudanese army announced that they had killed Ibrahim amidst fighting in west Wadbanda, North Kordofan in the centre of the country. His death could not be confirmed by independent sources. The state's governor said rebel vehicles were seen burning following the clash. On Saturday, Sudan's official SUNA news agency said that the military was searching the North-Kordofan-North Darfur border area, after JEM attacked civilians, targeted local leaders and looted property. In July, the Sudanese government signed the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur, along with the Liberation and Justice Movement, an alliance of rebel factions. Darfur's main armed groups, JEM and sections of the Sudanese Liberation Army, did not sign the agreement. Instead, they joined the SPLM-North rebel group to ratify documents to form the Sudanese Revolutionary Front. Their revolt is aimed at the National Congress Party in Khartoum. Elsewhere in the country on Sunday, riot police battled students at the University of Khartoum after they called for an exam boycott. Police fired tear gas while students threw stones, as emergency vehicles flooded to the area. It was not immediately clear what the students were demanding, however the sit-in coincided with the first day of exams.

This man is entitled to his own opinions since Somaliland is a democratic state but what's with the Historical revisionism claiming his clan signed the first agreement with the brits when we all know the first treaty ever signed with the Brits were the Folks in berbera in 1827. As for all the other nonsense that the Ethiopian regional government in jigjiga supposed to be a clan state representing certain Clans in the occupied territories of the O'gaden region. If that's the case when id ali farah and Abdulmajid Hussein were the regional presidents of Jigjiga in the 90s i supposed than the region was under the Ethnic Somalilandish hegemonic rule. Its also funny how he sees the kenyan Boots on the ground in the lower jubba as some sort of Clan achievement. Qof haday Qabyaladi madax marto wax walba reer bu ka dhex arkaya. -

African Union, China sign AMISOM support agreement NEWS - AFRICA NEWS China-Africa - China has agreed to provide equipment and material valued at about US$4.5 million for the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), according to a press release issued by the African Union (AU) on Friday. The release said the AU Commission and China on Friday signed an agreement in Addis Ababa on provision of “further support to the AU Mission in Somalia” under which China would provide equipment and material worth US$4.526 million to AMISCOM. The agreement was signed by Ramtane Lamamra, AU Commissioner for Peace and Security and Xie Xiaoyan, China’s Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the AU. Xie was quoted by the release as commending the Commission for the role it played in promoting peace and security in the region, adding that China was committed to continuing its support to AMISOM and other AU peace endeavours. “I intend to establish, as my predecessor did, regular contact with the AU, and I look forward to exchanging views with the leadership of the Commission on various issues of common interest and concern,” he said. Lamamra thanked China for its continued support to the AU and its peace and development programmes. He said: “We believe that we have clearly reached a very important level of understanding and solidarity. China has been very instrumental in supporting us in many instances, as we seek to find African solutions to African problems. 'Today’s donation goes a long way towards consolidating our partnership. We have no doubt that the year 2012 will mark further progress in this partnership.” The press release said the donation had come at a critical time in efforts to strengthen AMISOM to enable it to further support the ongoing peace and reconciliation process in Somalia.

If Somalia tries to interfere in the affairs of it's neighbours especially after 20 years of warlordism, anarchy and lawlessness. Every one in Somalia wants to create a clan state for his tribal homeland and they know where they can find new political support and a platform.Tribal Chiefs from Bosaaso are already running towards hargeysa can you imagine if Somaliland puts in some effort.

So abtigis wants more disunity based on clan division to achieve unity Between Somaliland and Somalia throught the newely approved 4.5 for another 4 years. If it was up to Abtigis he would fight against Somaliland using his Kikuyo Army as he is doing in the lower Juba. Its been 20 years people need to move on and wake up and smell the Coffee or should i say smell the canjera. The irony a secessionist from Ethiopia who at the same time supports Ethiopian troops in Somalia.

Puntland Rejects 4.5 The Conference Scheduled End Date Delayed
Xaaji Xunjuf replied to Dr_Osman's topic in Politics
Its true 4.5 and federal states don't go hand in hand but where are the somali federal states so far puntland galmudug ximan iyo xeeb are the only established regional states.so it will be hard to abolish the 4.5 when all the other regions are not even self governed or even in the hands of the tfg its to early yet to get rid of the 4.5 unless you want to involve alshabaab. -
Carafaat somalilanders don't have time for that
