Israel-Iran Nuclear Showdown: Is This The War of Gog and Magog?
Xaaji Xunjuf replied to Xaaji Xunjuf's topic in Politics
Mitch Glaser, president of Chosen People Ministries, which sponsored the conference along with the Talbot School of Theology and Biola University, says Ezekiel 36 and 37 predicted the rebirth of Israel and the return of Jews to their homeland, events that are precursors to the “war of Gog and Magog.” The nation of Israel was created in 1948 and about 6 million Jews now live there. “So now the stage is set,” Glaser says. “Israel is in the land and there is a lining up of powers against Israel. You’d have to be blind not to see the signs of the times.” One decisive end-times signs involves Jews accepting Jesus. The number of Jews professing faith in Yeshua has soared exponentially from 2,000 to 3,000 in the late 1960s to 250,000 to 300,000 today, Rosenberg says. Meanwhile, more than 1 million Muslims in Iraq alone have come to faith in Jesus since 1979, Rosenberg says. “More Muslims and Jews are coming to faith in Jesus now than ever in all of human history,” Rosenberg says. While these signs should give believers a “greater sense of urgency” regarding the Second Coming and motivate them to share the gospel, Glaser cautions against the type of sensationalistic date-setting that has made many people skeptical about end-times predictions. Family Radio broadcaster Harold Camping recently garnered worldwide headlines after predicting Judgment Day on May 21, 2011—his second failed prediction. In March, Camping issued an apology, describing his calculation as a “sinful statement.” “It’s critical for us to see the end-times through the lens of scripture, but not be counted among those in the past who have been embarrassingly wrong with setting dates,” Glaser says. “These embarrassing mistakes must not keep a new generation of followers of Yeshua from knowing more about the end-times because Yeshua, Jesus Himself, told us to study the end-times. We don’t want to be ignorant of what God is doing in the last days.” The global economic crisis, out-of-control debt, record-breaking extreme weather and the increasing potential of war in the Middle East are all part of a divine “shaking” intended to awaken people spiritually, Rosenberg says. “We know it’s going to be bad in the last days—all kinds of shaking,” Rosenberg says. “But we also know that God uses the shaking as a way to prepare people’s hearts to hear the gospel. Ezekiel 38 and 39 will be one of the most dramatic shakings in all of human history, and I’m not speaking metaphorically. There is going to be an earthquake at the epicenter in Israel that is going to affect the entire planet.” Despite his belief that the world is now living in the “last nanoseconds” of the last days and it appears “we are moving dramatically toward the fulfillment of Ezekiel 38 and 39,” Rosenberg cautions that “what is true today may not be true next week.” “God might kick the prophetic can up the road, in part so the church will have more time to obey Jesus’ command to share the gospel with Jews, Muslims and everyone else,” Rosenberg says. When asked by his disciples for signs of his Second Coming and of the “end of the age,” Jesus said, in Matthew 24, that the end would not come until the “good news of the kingdom” is proclaimed throughout the world. “Jesus said, ‘No one knows the day or hour,’ ” Rosenberg says. “I don’t know. Nobody knows. Harold Camping didn’t. So we just have to stick with what Jesus said. The point is not when. The point is are we ready?” -
Israel-Iran Nuclear Showdown: Is This The War of Gog and Magog? 1:00PM EDT 4/4/2012 TROY ANDERSON Israel, the Church and the Middle East Crisis conference (Troy Anderson) The nuclear showdown between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad could set in motion the fulfillment of prophecies in Ezekiel 38 and 39—the mysterious “war of Gog and Magog,” New York Times best-selling author Joel Rosenberg says. These biblical predictions, the former political advisor to Netanyahu says, refer to an end-times attack on Israel by a coalition of nations, including Russia and Iran. In light of the growing ties between Iran and Russia and U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta’s remarks that Israel may strike Iran’s nuclear facilities this spring or summer, Rosenberg says the prophetic scenario described by the prophet Ezekiel more than 2,600 years ago now “very much looks like it is coming to pass.” “But I think we have to be careful not to overreach,” Rosenberg told the thousands of people who attended the recent conference—“Israel, the Church and the Middle East Crisis”—at Biola University in Southern California recently. “If these things play out, it will become obvious in the near future. In the meantime, let’s not call them conclusive, but let’s say they are curious. We’ve never seen anything like this before.” At the conference, noted Bible scholars Darrell L. Bock, the research professor of New Testament Studies at Dallas Theological Seminary, and Walter Kaiser, president emeritus and the distinguished professor of Old Testament at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, described Panetta’s prediction that Iran could have operational nuclear weapons within a year as a “very sobering reality.” “I don’t know if this is the end or just the dress rehearsal for the end,” Bock said. “We have to be careful about suggesting more than we know.” The conference comes amid a growing possibility of war between Israel and Iran, challenges in the U.S.-Israel relationship, the “Arab Spring” spreading across North Africa and the Middle East and what Rosenberg describes as the rise of a “new czar of Russia,” Vladamir Putin. Putin, the first Russian leader in history to form close ties with Iran, was recently reelected as president of the Russian Federation, a nation that has been supplying armaments and nuclear expertise to Iran. Putin assumes the presidency of Russia on May 7. Given this confluence of events, military experts are assessing the potential fallout of an Israeli attack on Iranian nuclear-enrichment sites. A classified American war simulation released in March found an Israeli air blitz would lead to a wider regional war, potentially pulling the U.S. into the conflict. Israeli officials, however, don’t believe a pre-emptive strike on Iranian nuclear facilities will result in an all-out war. Instead, they believe it could embolden Iranian citizens to overthrow Ahmadinejad—a leader who is driven by a Shia end-times theology that says the way to hasten the coming of the Islamic Messiah, the 12th Imam, is to destroy Israel and the U.S., Rosenberg says. “The question for the Israeli leadership is, ‘Have we tried everything short of war to stop Iran?” says Rosenberg, author of the soon-to-be-released book, “Implosion: Can America Recover From its Economic & Spiritual Challenges in Time?” “The stakes are, if Iran gets its nuclear weapons, it could do in six minutes what it took Adolph Hitler six years to do and that’s to kill 6 million Jews.” While the Obama administration hopes economic sanctions by the U.S. and the European Union will pressure Iran to resolve the crisis diplomatically, Rosenberg says Netanyahu’s window of opportunity to strike is rapidly closing as Iran moves its nuclear facilities into hardened, underground bunkers. Netanyahu may want to attack Iran before Putin’s inauguration on May 7, Rosenberg says, because the Russian president could seek a mutual defense agreement with Iran. During his campaign for reelection, Putin made pledges that would cost hundreds of billions of dollars, promising pay raises to police, firefighters, teachers, solders and retirees. The only way for Putin to make good on those promises is if the price of oil, which generates more than half of Russia’s tax revenues, were to go up significantly, Rosenberg says. Because instability drives the price of oil, Rosenberg says there is an “economic dynamic to this calculation” and Putin could have a motive to “foment trouble in the Middle East.” “(Putin) could tell the Israelis, ‘If you launch an attack on Iran it will be regarded as an attack on the Russian Federation,’ ” Rosenberg says. “It would be hard imagining [Netanyahu] moving forward with a direct and credible threat of a Russian retaliation.” These developments seem to coincide with what the prophet Ezekiel predicted more than 2,600 years ago, Rosenberg says. In Ezekiel 38, the prophet wrote that “Gog” —interpreted as a Russian dictator—would lead a coalition of nations in an attack on Israel, prompting God’s supernatural intervention, Rosenberg says. “This will be a day of great judgment when God turns his supernatural fury against the enemies of Israel,” Rosenberg says. “It will also be a day of great spiritual awakening. More Muslims and Jews are going to come to faith in Jesus as the Messiah when this dramatic prophecy comes true.” Bible scholars differ on whether this battle occurs before or at the end of the seven-year Tribulation period, a time when the Antichrist oversees a global government. Some believe the “war of Gog and Magog” occurs before the Tribulation with the Battle of Armageddon occurring at the end. “A decade ago it would have been hard to tackle this question,“ Kaiser says. “But look at the scenario in Israel now—the Arab nations, plus Persia, which changed its name to Iran, lined up against Israel. The Battle of Armageddon involves all the nations of the world, but the [war of Gog and Magog] is limited. That’s an important point to make.” What is most remarkable, though, is that the battle described in Ezekiel 38 and 39 has never occurred in history. Furthermore, Russia and Iran have never had an alliance of the sort Ezekiel predicted 2,600 years ago, but “they do now,” Rosenberg says. “We’re not living in normal times,” Rosenberg says. “The things that are happening now have never happened in all of human history, but they are happening now.”

Somaliland: Army Commended for Diligence Wednesday, 04 April 2012 18:46 • Captured militias under detention at Burao Prison pending arraignment in court on treason charges Army commander General ShakaleBy: Yusuf M Hasan GAMBADA (Somalilandsun) - The national army has been complimented on its diligence to duty and urged to strengthen vigilance against enemies of the state. The Army commander Gen. Ismail Mohamed Shaqale who is on an inspection tour of army units in Buhodle and Sool region said recent operations by units in the area epitomize diligence of the utmost level. Gen. Shaqale who also conveyed compliments from the President H.E Ahmed Mahmoud Silanyo told the soldiers that Somalilanders were basking in pride as a result of recent successes against militias aligned to the Khatuumo secessionist. While addressing units based at the outskirts of Gambada town the army chief said that his tour was related to ascertaining needs of the soldiers as well as raise their morale by a show of solidarity. Gen. Shaqale told the soldiers to sustain vigilance thus protect the country and innocent civilians from attacks by the marauding militias whose only mission is to create disharmony as directed by their bosses who are known to be crooked and washed-out politicians on the employee of anti-Somaliland elements within the region. "You not only managed to repulse a two pronged attack by the militias, but capture senior officers and equipment due to your diligence" Gen Shaqale said The army boss who is accompanied by several senior officers has already inspected the Buhodle barracks where he revealed that Defense headquarters will replenish the units with necessary ordnance and related materials immediately upon his team's return to Hargeisa. Earlier this week the units managed to repulse militias who simultaneously attacked Buhodle and Las-anod army barracks. The units successes against the heavily Puntland armed and supported militias saw them capture a Khatuumo state minister and three colonels in addition to a number of technical vehicles. The army also managed to dislodge the militias from several areas they used to occupy. According to the minister of Defense Hon Adami during the skirmishes the army which inflicted heavy casualties on the militias suffered 4 dead and 12 injured. The injured officers are currently receiving medical attention at Hargeisa and Burao hospitals while the militias are reported to have taken their injured to Garowe, the Puntland capital. On the other hand those captured during the skirmishes are in detention at Burao prison where they will stay until a court martial finalizes arrangements for their prosecution. -
The Repulsive Ethiopian Help! by Sarmaan Ramses Saturday, March 31, 2012 The Ethiopians recaptured Baidoa -- the bastion of Al-Shabaab -- but the liberated population didn’t cheer at all for their neighborly help – and you may wonder why! By all accounts, the Ethiopian army showed their help in the most ferocious way by rounding up the elders of the city, including the President of the University of Southern Somalia (USS), whom were not only humiliated but were also brutally beaten up and are now in hospital for life threatening injuries. It seems as though the Ethiopians have not learned their lessons from their first foray into the Somali hinterland back in 2006, and are merely bent on running over the country and humiliating its people. This kind of reprehensible treatment of the locals and disregard of their human rights is how the Al-Shabab insurgents were born in the first place because at the time they seemed to be the lesser of two devils, until they wreaked havoc on everyone they came across. Nevertheless, the humiliations and rough treatments the Ethiopian army is inflicting on the local population of the so called liberated areas are quite disconcerting and inconsistent to what they supposed to do in order to win the hearts and minds of the local population. That’s if they’re genuinely there to help? The president of the USS, Honorable Mohamed Ali Klaay, for example, is a well-respected and unaligned educator, who has been involved with education since early Seventies. He’s a well-known figure and highly regarded for his selfless focus on education and other progressive venues in the region -- even despite the perilous situation there. Undeniably, the USS functioned and survived for many years under the numerous of the influential forces that changed hands in that region of Baidoa. The University’s survival is mainly due to Mr. Klaay’s sole focus on education for all and his neutrality in politics, as he was fully aware that any political muddling would undercut the progress of the University for which he’s the main administrator and advocate. Historical perspectives should be an aide here, Somalia and Ethiopia had a long history of conflict and animosity between the two countries. The Somalis view Ethiopia as a neighborly hegemon that rules over a large region of ethnic Somali population. Nonetheless, times are different now and Somalia finds itself in a precarious position that old hegemonies and hatreds are a bit subdued at this time. On the other hand, Ethiopia –specially the current regime in Addis—made some efforts to allay those past conflicts and tensions between the two countries. Therefore, when I decry these latest Ethiopian blunders in Baidoa, I am not resorting to the usual historical acrimony between the two nations. Rather, what’s important is that if Ethiopia is trying to help Somalia at this juncture then they must be very careful to tiptoe in not humiliating the local populations they are trying to help. Sadly, these past few days, the Somali Diaspora is really incensed when they learned about the humiliation and viciousness inflicted on one of their most revered hero in the region Mr. Mohamed Ali Klaay of the Southern Somalia University (USS).

Garowe (RBC) Somalia’s semi-autonomous state of Puntland declared on Monday that Puntland forces aided Khatumo state in Buhodle fighting which killed at least 26 people on Sunday, RBC Radio reports. The minister of fisheries and marine resources of Puntland Eng. Mohamed Farah Aden whispered the forces took part Sunday’s battle to defend the region from Somaliland’s invasion. “Our forces were on high alert since we knew the military movement in the region, so on Sunday when they attacked Buhodle our forces resisted back.” Mr Aden who hails from Sool region told reporters in Garowe town, the base of Puntland. “As far as we know high ranking military officer from Somaliland was killed in the battle and our side six soldiers were killed.” The minister admitted. According to local sources Somaliland and Khatumo state forces clashed on Sunday in Las’anod and Buhodle but the minister of fisheries and marine resources of Puntland urged that Puntland forces stepped in after gunfire targeted their bases. Las’anod and Buhodle towns had been hostile area since Somaliland military seized Las’anod town, the provincial capital of Sool region from Puntland in 2007. Meanwhile the newly established Khatumo state is fighting to dominate Sool and Sanag regions mostly under Somaliland control. “It was planned aggression attack to seize new locations but luckily we have already got prepared and foiled their mission.” Mr. Aden added. The comment of the Puntland minister comes as the warring sides of Somaliland and Khatumo officials claimed a victory over Sunday’s battle. RBC Radio

The Republic of Somaliland redeclared its independence from Somalia in 1991. It remains subject to a sovereignty dispute with neighbouring Somalia but is in active diplomatic discussions with surrounding states and the African Union regarding formal recognition of its independence. In April 2003, Rova Energy Corporation Limited (Rova) entered into the Berbera Production Sharing Agreement (Berbera PSA) with the Government of Somaliland. Rova was a special purpose company established to acquire and develop the Berbera PSA. In return for providing early funding, Mvelaphanda was awarded an option to acquire 75% of the issued share capital of Rova. The remaining 25% was held by a private individual. Ophir acquired this option from Mvelaphanda in October 2004 and in March 2005 exercised its option to acquire 75% of Rova. In February 2007, Ophir and the private individual agreed to exchange Ophir’s shareholding in Rova for a direct interest in the Berbera PSA. This was subsequently ratified by the Government in March 2007 (with the transaction completing in May 2007). Ophir then became a direct participant in the Berbera PSA holding an interest of 75% and is the designated operator. In 2008 Rova agreed to sell its 25% interest in the Berbera PSA to UAE based Ras Al Khaimah Gas Company (RAKgas). Ophir and RAKgas currently participate in the Berbera PSA through a joint venture governed by a Joint Operating Agreement (JOA). The Berbera PSA originally consisted of four sub-blocks that were designated as 35/36 (onshore) and M10/M10A (offshore). In 2006, the Group elected to maintain the 35 (onshore) and M10A (offshore) sub-blocks and relinquish 36 and M10. Only three wells have been drilled in the original Berbera Block, two of which were located offshore in block M10, where they encountered minor oil shows. The third well, the only onshore well in the block, was a 243m deep stratigraphic well. Three wells, drilled adjacent to the western edge of block 35 (Dagah Shabel 1-2-3) over the period from November 1958 to November 1959, all encountered good oil shows. The M10A/35 PSA, located in northern Somaliland, is predominantly onshore but also extends offshore into the Gulf of Aden. The block encompasses an area of 16,270km2 with a water depth of approximately 0 to 1,000m Interest The Group owns 75% of blocks M10A and 35 and is designated as the operator. Exploration The petroleum geology of Somaliland is contiguous with that of Yemen (a territory where there have been significant oil discoveries and production). The Group acquired 2D seismic data offshore and completed an aeromagnetic survey over the onshore areas in Q1 2008. The Group is currently in the 3rd exploration period which commenced on 1 December 2010.
